LOCAL GEM! The Edison Grill has become a regular spot for my family and friends. Started a few years ago as a breakfast/lunch joint, I have seen them grow to a truly wonderful venue. Jerry and staff create a welcoming environment and the constant crafting of "outside the box" offerings keeps me coming back. Dinner was marginal at best...we have been here for lunch a few times, enjoyed it (the Edison Bloody Mary is awesome) and found ourselves in the vicinity for dinner (first ones to arrive) and were ultimately disappointed. Here is our experience (4 people), drink order took way to long (again, only people in the dining room), the "Buffalo" wings had no "Buffalo" sauce, both hamburgers (both the "Feta burger" and the "South of the burger") despite ordering medium rare were cooked to death as was the chicken on the Cobb salad. Would also recommend staying away from the fries (regular or sweet potato), exact opposite of the meat, way underdone! Disappointed with what was supposed to be a caprese sandwich. Flavor was ok, but that was the thinnest store bought mozzarella slice I've ever had in a sandwich where one of the main ingredients is mozzarella. It's not hard to make mozzarella! How does a high rated restaurant get away with serving such a sorry sandwich at 11 dollars and 14 dollars with sweet potato fries. Sweet potato fries were delish the sandwich was just absolutely sad. I mainly wanted to come here for the desserts I saw photos of...dessert craving. I ordered the grilled chicken breast sandwich and thought it tasted really good, wasn't dry, and there was plenty of it. My husband ordered a burger which was fine, sadly they forgot the egg, so no added gravy was a bummer. We also tried the crunchy meatballs, and while the flavor was good, we just couldn't get past the texture. It was more pureed meat, rather than grainy. That's a personal preference though, so others might love them. We had the chocolate mousse cake and it was really delicious. I think it's way overpriced, but it was very tasty. I'd like to try the coconut cake another time. The style and design of this place is really great. read more

Great place. Don't believe the naysayers, either they're full of bunk or just caught an off day. I've eaten lunch there several times and each time great. I've had their burgers and we'll worth it! Even better are their home made Belgian Waffle sundae- ooof - delicious and I could even smell the waffle being made so I know it was fresh. The service we received was very attentive, from the time we were seated till we left- but not rushed either. Always a crowd of repeat customers so they must be doing something right. Absolutely disgusted by this place. we came here for family breakfast and left very disappointed. My bf pulled out a long hair from his mouth while eating his omelette. My Florentine omelet was over poached and the hollandaise sauce was barely on it. After this experience we are more then likely not going to come back. Was very disappointed last night, going to dinner at the Edison. Couldn't tell you about the food as we didn't stay that long. Walked in and was seated by a young man who got us menus and water very quickly. There were 4 tables and 4 at the bar so not swamped with other people. One of the 4 tables left and the waitress instead of getting our drink order or food order decided that cleaning the table was far more important than we were. Had we been spoken to, she was busy, whatever it may have been, could have been acceptable but nope nothing. 15 minutes after we had been seated and totally ignored we left. Completely disappointing on just about every level you can imagine! I'll use the model that my Yelp buddy Dan uses. What went well versus what could be improved. What went well: The menu and the options. Wonderful variety and some really creative food. Also, the freshness of the food. You can totally tell that they use fresh ingredients. And the decor is great too. Nice and cute, open air feel, very comfy. This place has some serious potential. It is a little off the beaten path but would be well worth the trek if the food and service were just as great as the decor. What needs to be improved: While the menu offerings are fresh and vastly differ from your atypical sandwich/entree options at a chain restaurant, the execution is so poor I'm not sure where to begin. They grind their own meat which is great however, my boyfriend's Dad found a piece of fat SO LARGE in his burger that it took up 1/4 of the patty - I only wish I were exaggerating. When we let the waitress know, she took the piece to the cook and never returned. Or apologized. My boyfriend's Mom just didn't like her burger at all. When we told the waitress, she shrugged and walked away. My boyfriend got the cheeseburger quesadilla which was great in theory but dripping in grease. It seems I lucked out with a panini special for the day - ham, bacon, pineapple, jerk bbq sauce and swiss. It was delicious. It really was. But, the pineapple was cold while everything else was hot. Perhaps grilling the pineapple would have been a nicer way to eat the sandwich. When our bill came, the waitress said nothing about the burgers, didnt apologize, didnt take anything off the bill, nothing. I'm never out for a free meal but the lack of shitty service is what really got to me. It's a shame because we all really wanted to like this place. It would have been a nice go-to when meeting up with his family for quick lunch or dinner dates. This place won't be on the rotation again though. I've been here for brunch, breakfast, lunch and dinner and have always been 100% satisfied. The food, service and drinks have always been on point! I love trying the different drink specials and food specials. Everything is so unique and full of flavor. You will never be disappointed. We went to Edison tonight for the first time since their remodel and were floored!! What a perfect spot for delicious food and a drink. We loved it! At our table we had a mix of paninis, pasta, and chicken all cooked to perfection. And dessert?? How nice is it to get a dessert that's not frozen and microwaved?! I'm so excited to have found such a gem in our neck of the woods!! My hubby and I went another couple, all 4 ordered different dinners and all 4 were simply amazing! I had the burger. House ground and cooked to perfection. My husband had the shrimp scampi. Shrimp was grilled before tossed in with the pasta and sauce. Mean man wouldn't give me a bite :( Other couple ordered the pan seared chicken and meatloaf. Both of which they raved about. The service was awesome!! Very attentive without hovering. Best restaurant around. Have been only twice to this small, unique restaurant and each time I was completely impressed. The interior is nicely decorated and themed with Thomas Edison style inventions and framed pics showcasing his work. The service is always friendly and correct. The servers know the menu and are always quick to get you your drinks, aps, etc. without being pushy. The food has been spectacular. At each visit myself and my family have ordered different items and never have we had a complete. Food is very tasty and fresh. Everything is done well. Even the side salad, isn't your standard iceberg with 2 slices of tomato and 3 cucumbers. The specials menu is always something a little different. Its okay! There is nothing spectacular about the food or the staff. We had lunch today at 12:30 and they were pretty full and the food took forever and when it finally came the food was cold. Friendly waitstaff that are neither harried nor bored welcome you into a space filled with literal and figurative warmth. We arrived at The Edison Grill a bit late in the Sunday breakfast service. The facade is nothing to write home about. You'll likely find it remarkable for how unremarkable it is. The complete opposite is true of the interior. The Edison Grill cleverly places a thick drape between the main door and the hostess to keep out cold air. Take the plunge and walk through the curtains and you're treated with warm air and warm browns and reds. The decor is a tribute to Thomas Edison, replete with old fashioned electric lightbulbs and replicas of many of his early patents and inventions. Ordering is easygoing. The hostess provides you with a straightforward menu with few bells or whistles. The waitstaff appears neither harried nor bored. When your waitress takes your order, you'll feel comfortable asking questions or requesting modifications. The Edison Grill's breakfast strength is in it's eggs. Whether scrambled or in an omelet they are delicious, light and fluffy. Scrambled they come a little on the wet side if you have a preference. The french toast on the other hand was not at all interesting. Although the presentation was neat, it was overly simple for Sunday brunch without so much as a sprinkle of powdered sugar for embellishment. It tasted fine. From the beginning we were made to feel welcome and treated well. The coffee was generally refilled quickly and my partner gives it two thumbs up. It's worth the drive for the novel interior decorating and the friendly staff. The drive out from the Hartford area is relatively pleasant with winding roads and not much to see. I am not one to ever write Yelp reviews, although I depend on them a lot, but this place definitely warrants one. We arrived at Edison Grill on a Sunday at exactly noon. We were greeted by two hostesses who both decided that they "just wanted to let us know" that they had just stopped serving breakfast and that although we could order lunch, we would have to wait 20-25 minutes to do so, since they needed to "switch the kitchen from breakfast to lunch". Um...ok. Now, I work in food service and I have never heard of that needing to be done before, but alright, we weren't going to be difficult. We told them that was fine, even though we had only come there for a quick snack, and took seats at the bar. We were greeted by one bartender, while the other kept her back to us the whole time. We ordered two Tito's Bloody Marys and were then asked if we would like food. We said yes but reiterated what we had been told when we walked in. The bartender replied with "Oh, ok", not aware of this issue. At this point the other bartender turned around and repeated what the hostesses had told us. We said that would be fine, but we would still like to order drinks. Again, we were asked what we wanted, even though we had just told them, and we ordered again. This time we were told they did not have Tito's so we re-ordered with Ketel One. About 20 minutes later we got our drinks, after we watched bartender #1 struggle to make them, (it looked like she must have just started), with no assistance from bartender #2. I then asked if I could order a grilled cheese to be made when the kitchen was done "being switched over". Bartender #2 took my order and asked if I wanted chips or fries. I answered that I wanted chips and she then said she could give me the side of chips now, but the grilled cheese would take a few minutes. I replied that that was fine and was given cold, stale chips. I still ate them since I was starving and then was given the grilled cheese about 15 minutes later, minus a side of chips. When we asked for the bill we notices we had been charged for both the sandwich, $5.25, AND the side of chips that was supposed to come with the sandwich, $2.75. Now I don't mind paying for both, let me tell you, but it was the principal of the matter that I shouldn't have to since it was supposed to come as one meal. When we asked about this, bartender #2 told us we were charged for both since she gave us more chips than would have come with the sandwich. Ok, whatever. We were also charged for doubles for our drinks, which we did not ask for, making two Bloody Marys cost $26. I can tell ya one thing, I will not be returning to Edison Grill ever, no matter how hangry I am on a Sunday morning. read more

Everybody I know knows I'm a foodoholic so I get recommendations all the time for different places to check out by my friends, family, co workers, and customers. After hearing about The Edison Grill by numerous people, I decided it was time to check it out... and I'm happy I did. We started off with 3 amazing apps, one being the crunchy meatbulbs (meatballs but going with the Thomas Edison theme which the decor also followed and was really neat). They were stuffed with a chipotle cream and topped with an herb aoli and were absolutely delicious and had a kick! Another app was the garlic parm polenta fries which were also really good. Great crunch, good flavor, and great in the marinara sauce they came with. The last app was a cup of high voltage chili for $4. Check the pic.. that's a huge freakin cup for $4! Only thing I wish was that it was spicier. It was sweet which is cool with me but sweet and spicy together is a flavor I personally love. It still tasted awesome, good consistency, and served with perfectly cooked housemade chips for dipping which is a great idea. Now the meals... My girlfriend had the pretzel crusted chicken with a mustard-cranberry dipping sauce, with spinach and roasted garlic mashed potatoes as the sides. Served with 2 fresh dinner rolls and a side salad which was basic but good and a lot of food for one entree. All worked well with each other and all were enjoyed. I had the south of the burger which came with applewood bacon, avocado, pepperjack cheese, and chipotle mayo... I also added jalapenos, blue cheese crumbles, and mac n cheese (lol), and was served with above average fries and a pickle. Burger was cooked perfect, toppings were fresh and delicious, and bread was great. Overall I was impressed with the quality of food across the board. Service was EXTREMELY fast and friendly and we were checked on often even as it got busy. In our search for some great breakfast places to replace our favorites in NYC, some friends recommended this place. The decor is really quite impressive - full of antiques that relate to early electricity and Thomas Edison. They had an impressive looking menu with lots of choices. Eggs Benedict is my favorite, so I figured I'd try something a bit different and try their Irish Benedict. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. The hollandaise sauce tasted like it was from a jar, or at the very least was made with far too much corn starch. The eggs were also a bit overcooked and the corned beef hash tasted like it was from a can and later gave me severe indigestion. I'd just expected a bit more in quality of ingredients. The service was a tad slow - but they were quite busy and the waitress was very nice. We will probably try the restaurant for dinner, but probably won't be back for breakfast. read more

First time patron. Not impressed. They said 30 minutes. Arrived in 30 minutes. Waited another 35 minutes at the place. Live 3 minutes away. Food was barely warm when got it home. Had to reheat it. Had Quesadillas with chicken. Shell was soft and a bit soggy. Expected crispy shell. Bland flavor. Definitely needed to dip them. Cobb salad was ok but for $13 it was average size, only had 4 cherry tomatoes, and very little blue cheese. Wont go there again. Dont know what all the hoopla is over this place. What a great restaurant. We have been many times and tend to gravitate to the chicken quesadillas and their amazing salads (Cobb or garden with HUGE shrimp added!). This is the third bad experience I have at this restaurant so I am done! Did brunch on Sunday and it was again horrible. How can you make blueberry pancakes horrible? Over cook them till they are dry and tough that's how. Not only the food is horrible but our waitress. She gave us our food which looked delicious! Not 1 minute later she is asking how is everything? Seriously I have no clue as I haven't started eating yet! That is one of my biggest no-nos with a waitress...give me a few minutes to at least start eating so I can answer you! I tried , in vain, three times as she passed by to get her attention and failed! How can you fail when I am sticking my arm in the aisle and waiving it at her and she is only one foot from me! I will start with saying the food was great. The service, well, could have been better. I asked the waitress if we could order the incandescent lemonade that normally comes in a 21 ounce glass that you can buy but only in a smaller glass. After she "spaced out" (her words) I had to repeat my request and then she she checked with the bartender and said yes. However, when I received the check it showed that I was to pay for the 21 ounce refill. I only had a 12 ounce glass. The waitress stated that the only way to put it on the bill was to charge the 21 ounce refill amount. I would have ordered the 21 ounce if I had known. One piece of advice, don't order a drink that's not on the menu as it is listed. Otherwise I was happy with the place. read more
