So had a business dinner here last night with 8 guests. We certainly will not return. Here is our experience from start to finish - We arrive and are seated at 6:15 for dinner. Waiter greets us about five to ten minutes after we sit down. We all order wine or a drink. 20 minutes, still no drinks. Seriously! After 20 minutes the waiter shows up with half the drinks, keep in mind that two were sodas, how hard can this be. Two of my guests are told that the restaurant is out of the wine they have selected. Disappointed, they pick another. Waiter disappears for another ten minutes, only to come back to say they are also out of the second choice wine. Clearly someone is not doing their job in the bar area. They pick a third and lo and behold they actually have that choice. We order appetizers, the southern board, calamari and tuna tartare - the tuna was almost inedible and had a foul taste, calamari was acceptable and the southern board was ok but nothing to write home about. The waiter comes back takes our dinner orders. We all ordered various different things. I had the flat iron steak which was so salty it was almost inedible. One of our guests ordered the grouper, her meal did not come out with the rest of ours. We wait, wait some more and finally the waiter comes back to explain "there was an accident in the kitchen with your fish". Its almost laughable at this point. The manager then comes to the table ten minutes later with the grouper dish which looks like a child put it together and does not offer to comp the meal. We state that he should do something so he offers a glass of wine. Wow they have a lot to learn about customer service at the Edison! All throughout our meal, the waiter never came back to check on us, for more drinks, how the food was, etc. Finally we flag him down and again ten minutes with the drinks. After he brings the drinks, he un-cerimoniously brings the check. I said aren't you going to ask everyone if they would like desert? Not sure if he was actually a busboy filling in but he definitely did not know s*** about waiting tables. To the management and owners of Edison - I wanted to like your restaurant, but every experience has been a disaster so will not return. To anyone reading this review, do yourself a big favor and go to Avenue or Sage. Same price points, Excellent Food and Excellent Service on a consistent basis and that is what makes a restaurant GREAT! read more

Went to get a round or two of drinks since the website said they were open until 11. We were sat without being informed about their changing of times, and waited for 15 minutes before the hostess came back out and told us that they switched the times, but she didn't know because she was out of town. Aside from being ill informed, the service (what little we experienced) was awful. read more

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT. We had a reservation made for a party of 7 on graduation day (Aug 2) nearly two weeks in advance. Upon arriving, the staff claimed no reservations were made for that day and party. I showed them a call log of the date and time and phone number used to make the reservation, yet the manager (!) accused us of having no reservation and being a walk in. Absolutely inexcusable and scandalous that this would happen. We were nonetheless seated, but in a corner and at the most uncomfortable tables imaginable (the leafs were lowered, and the tables had wide bases which made the chair absurdly far from the table). This was a disastrous experience that ruined a special graduation day, and was mishandled in the most unprofessional way possible. This establishment is clearly incapable of holding reservations, and is stocked with rude management. Avoid this place at all costs. We will never return. read more

The other reviews are very surprising because we had a great experience here. We did end up sitting at the bar because the wait time for a table was a little long. But it was still great. We had Gary and he was fun and had great suggestions. There was five of us we got both of the boards which were great. Two of the guys got the tomahawk steak. They loved it and finished it! The Brussel sprouts were amazing. I had the pad Thai noodles with chicken. Loved the flavor. The other two got a bunch of apps like the tuna tartar, lobster guacamole and the split pea soup and they loved all of it. We loved the atmosphere and the building was very cool inside. And out! There isn't a lot on the menu but the things we had we loved. The drinks were great also! read more

Was there Saturday night with a group of 10. Had reservations for a couple of months. We were seated in the Bar area. Was ok, but very hard to talk to anyone that wasn't seated close to you because its loud in that area. I generally don't mind a loud restaurant, but would have rather sat in an area so we could all talk together. Service and Bar service was really slow. Out of quite a few beers that some of the guys tried to order. Waiter told my husband the soup of the day was French Onion with beef? What? My husband ordered because he loves French Onion soup, BUT it was not French onion. Looked like some kind of Beef Barley. Not sure what it was, but 2 people said it was good. My point is, the waiter had no idea. Service was really not that good. I will say, everyone liked what they ordered. All 10 of us, so no complaints on the food. Pork chop, Lobster roll, Yankee board, BLT, Salmon, Caesar Salad (croutons were yummy), Shrimp and Grits (said best she has had). We Valeted our car. Valet Service is Free. My husband went to get our car and they couldn't find the key. Finally found the car, parked with the window down and key inside the car. My husband wasn't too pleased with that for sure. I will go back. I'd love to try Sunday Brunch. Service needs some work is only real negative I have that will determine if I keep going back. read more

This is my second review... the first time I reviewed this restaurant 2 years ago, I was torn between the gorgeous location and friendly service, and the poor food. They have neither improved nor changed the menu in the past two years. They cannot cook steak, I don't know why they even bother to ask you how you want it done. The mixed drinks are bad - I did not take more than 3 sips out of my $10 cocktail tonight. The waiter did not comment on it, and he was otherwise so nice I didn't complain. Plain salads are ok. The supplement of salmon or chicken you can order to them is absolutely tiny. Most of the menu is bad, some are tolerable but not worth paying to eat them out. The salmon entree is safe, but it tastes like each of the items in the dish combined rather than items that were actually cooked together for flavor. We wanted to sit outside, when we went out, they were power washing the sidewalk at the sister restaurant downstairs and using a super loud generator (really? Friday night just before sunset?). When you go to the restroom upstairs, it's like a surplus furniture area that really doesn't give the restaurant a classy feel. This location should be a recipe for success, but they seem to miss the trick at every turn. The worst is it's not that reasonably priced for what you get. Go to Liberty or Ted's if you want this type of food, but cooked well and at a reasonable price and in a better ambiance (yes, Ted's Montana Grill beats Edison on ambiance). I didn't want to try this place again, and I wish that I had gone elsewhere. read more

Wonderful food, great service, lovely setting. This has got to be the coolest place in Tallahassee. I had the filet mignon and the best Brussels sprouts ever, plus the key lime creme brûlée. Excellent. The setting is the new Cascades Park overlooking a waterfall. The place includes fire pits outside, an outdoor bar, and a caffe. I'll be back soon. I highly recommend it. read more

Consensus is that food is uninspired -contrary to their website claims, and they should invest in professional serving staff if they ever hope to get returning foodies with much sophistication. I have been hearing about this place and I have been trying to get to the Edison for months. It was kind of a let down. We only went for drinks and for the experience before ordering food because we have heard mixed reviews. It wasn't the worst experience but it up there. We weren't greeted at the door and luckily we were able to find seats at the bar. We weren't helped right away because there wasn't anyone to help us. None of the bartenders were there but there were menus on the bar. After the bartender came back he over heard us talking about drinks and suggested" death in the edison" when I say that it was the worst drink I have ever had I am not being over dramatic, It was horrible, wasn't mixed well just thrown together. It took me and my group about 30 minutes to drink it. Finally when we were done we waited for the bartender to come back. Nothing. They were people who worked at the bar talking to each other about what was happening at the park and ignoring the patrons. We had our money out and ready to pay and after about 25 minutes or so the bartender that served us finally came back. The place wasn't busy so I didn't understand the slow service. For all the hype of the place I was let down and told my family to cancel our reservations that we had for dinner for the upcoming week. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. It has a great atmosphere and cool outdoor deck area with a view of Cascades Park. The first time I came here for a catered event, I was not very impressed by the food. I decided to give it another shot yesterday and it was an even worse experience. The food was better than the first time but still a bit lack luster, especially for the price. Aside from that, the bottomless mimosas were $15, which is a normal price, but they weren't bottomless. Like at all. They cap you off at five, which is not indicated on the menu and was not mentioned by the server. Five may seem more than enough, but a full pour was a glass filled halfway, plus if the waiter comes around to give you get a top-off it is considered one of your five "refills." When we weren't "allowed" to get more mimosas, my friend asked to speak to the manager who was extremely rude, had terrible customer service skills and said they cap people off at five "because an average person can't drink more than five without throwing up on the stairs." Not one person at our table was even close to that level. Left with barely a buzz, a hefty bill and an overall poor customer service experience. We won't be back. read more

Brought my family here for a late lunch before graduation and even though I didn't expect much from Edison since every time I came here something was wrong. I was hoping that this time will be better. They set us down at the half cleaned table. My uncle'a silverware had tomato sauce stains all over it. The waiter had to go check what kinda beers they have on tap at least twice because he kept forgetting the list. And it is fine if it was some brewery with 100 beers on top but why couldn't he remember a name of a few beers?! After he finally managed to take drinks order... we had to wait forever for drinks and then appetizers and main course entrees came at the same time which is a little odd for a restaurant which is supposed to provide a fancy dining experience. Will definitely not going to bring my family here again... I wish they could get their act together as the location definitely deserves 5 stars and the place has a lot of potential read more

CONS: The Edison is trying way to hard to be something it is not: a nice restaurant. The food is sub par to say the least. They have a nice, quaint, environment that they could and should be taking advantage of. Instead, they are taking advantage of their customers. Their prices would be fair if the food was good and they knew what they were doing. Instead, I ordered a $35 steak that was cold when I got it, accompanied by warm sides. This was a huge indication of their incompetency given that it is restaurant 101 to plate the entrée after the sides for the very reason of keeping it warm. Moreover, their wine and drink list was expensively prices for Tallahassee and they were out of the entire genre of Pinot Noir, which befuddled me taking all the circumstances into account. However, MY BIGGEST PROBLEM with the Edison was the wait. Although the restaurant was 75% empty, they had me wait a few minutes for a table (not a big deal but they should have their tables ready if the place is empty I thought). After I ordered, I sat for 35 minutes waiting for my meal. I did not order an appetizer, however, literally every single other restaurant, that charges $20 minimum per plate, I have EVER been to provides bread or at least makes a good faith effort. I did not enjoy my time at The Edison, I did not enjoy spending $75 on a mediocre meal, and I will not be dining there again. NOTE: The purpose of serving bread to customers is NOT to satisfy their hunger. The purpose of serving bread to customers is to reduce wait time. The duration itself stays the same however if you give someone who is waiting something to do (i.e pick at bread) they don't feel as though they are waiting as long. I learned this as a teenager and was EXTREMELY surprised to realize someone who decided to open a restaurant didn't know this simple lesson. PROS: The environment, the cocktails, and the name. The environment and ambiance is really nice. The hand crafted cocktails are good but on the expensive side (would be a selling point if they were paired with decent food). The name however could not be more appropriate for this establishment. I absolutely LOVED the fact that this restaurant is named after American icon Thomas Edison, who is credited with inventing the light bulb. I thought this was a perfect name given that the light bulb had existed for 50 years before Edison's patent date. The fact that Edison stole a good idea, pretended to make it his own, and then went down in history as a genius was a perfect parallel for The Edison as a restaurant. The restaurant is a good idea however at the end of they day they are just pretenders. It may fool some simpletons, however just as Thomas Edison lost his patent anyone with a degree of class will see right through The Edison's pathetic approach. The Edison has all the potential in the world. If they can get a decent chef to run the kitchen and their owners realize simple quantitative business management strategies it will be hugely successful. An alternative route to success would simply be to lower prices by 20-45% depending on the item so you actually get what you paid for. In my opinion my 6oz $35 fillet would have been fairly priced at $20. The Southern Public House (another new Tallahassee restaurant) has a 6oz $20 fillet that was twice as good. read more

I've been here about 10 times since it opened and it hasn't disappointed yet!! The food is absolutely amazing. I've tried just about everything on the menu (except the pork chop because I do not eat pork). My favorite dish is the Blackened Salmon with Sweet potato purée and Brussels. The salmon is cooked perfectly and the texture of the sweet potatoes is perfect. The 28-Day Dry Aged New York Strip Steak is one of the best steaks I've ever had. The servers are great and attentive. The ambiance is something of a 5 star restaurant with a casual flow. It's a great place to grab dinner with friends, or just a night out of drinks, or even have a party catered here in the banquet hall. It's not a cheap place by any means; a little more on the expensive side. But I'm willing to pay for great food and an experience. I'm a regular and it'll stay that way as long as keep up the good work!! read more

I have eagerly awaited the opening of The Edison since renovations to this historical building began. I had the privilege of finally dining there on the night they debuted the full menu. First I toured the building and was so impressed by the beautiful renovations which preserved the feel of the original building. Then we decided to sit outside overlooking the waterfall in Cascade park and the ambiance was spot on. We tried the tuna appetizer and meatball with goat cheese appetizer and both were delicious. My dinner of salmon on smashed sweet potatoes was wonderful especially when followed by the strawberry shortcake dessert! Yum! The Chef came to our table multiple times to ensure we were satisfied with the new menu options. I truly enjoyed my visit and will frequent The Edison whenever I am in town. read more

My girlfriend & I came here on her birthday for drinks & appetizers. The food here was excellent & the service was even better. The chef even came out & personally introduced himself, we then proceeded to have a conversation with him during which he explained the intricacies of all of the food items we had & told us that they used locally sourced ingredients. Their wine selection was excellent, both appetizers were amazing & the desert that they gave us for a free birthday desert, the Strawberry Shortcake, was phenomenal. All in all, 10/10 experience with a great atmosphere, great food, & great people. read more

I have eaten at The Edison three times now. The first was during the soft opening, so even though the service was terrible, I tried again during the Isbell show a few weeks ago. Again, the same terrible service. No one at our table for at least ten minutes. Our drink order took at least twenty minutes and when I asked about our order I was told, "we are just really busy." I was talked into going for lunch today and it is the last time I will ever eat there and I will encourage anyone else I know to avoid this place like the plague. Again, no one at our table. No one took our drink orders. Three of us ordered burgers and when they finally came out 45 minutes later they were literally raw inside. Add another half hour for new ones that were not medium as requested but burned to a crisp. In the end I paid a ridiculous $70 for a horrible, poorly served lunch. No one even seemed to care. Hands down the worst service and most mediocre food in Tallahassee. Very disappointed. Too many more negatives to list. read more

The location is the only thing that this place has going for it. The building is unique, has an interesting history and the overlooking cascades park is beautiful. Go for the atmosphere, leave because of the food! Been 3 times and will not be back, to eat anyway. Made a reservation for Easter through Open Table, arrived on time and was told we'd be seated shortly. Even though we sat down almost DIRECTLY in front of the hostess stand, instead of realizing that we were right in front of them, the staff who we had JUST spoken with just minutes before sent a TEXT through Open Table to notify us that our table was ready. A text that I did not see until several minutes later... had they told us we would be notified via text, I would've been monitoring my phone instead of trying to make old-fashioned EYE CONTACT with the host and hostess we had just spoken with who I ASSUMED would know we were in the restaurant... Finally got seated and noticed several open tables that remained open through most of our extended stay as guests waited out front to be seated. Server was attentive but our 4 orders took FOREVER to arrive and were awful, at best. I requested the tails be removed from the shrimp in my dish and was told that the chef declined to accommodate my request. My THREE shrimp were served ($15 for shrimp and grits brunch menu) with tails on so as I slopped through the sauce to remove them I noticed that not only did the chef fail to accommodate my request to remove the tails but also did not bother to COOK them at all. Given the amount of time it took to receive 3 undercooked shrimp, I did not want to wait for some additional length of time to have them cooked. My daughter also found a hair in her burned, yet undercooked French toast. Oh, not to mention we were told when she ordered that they were out of syrup... however they managed to scare some up from somewhere by the time her food arrived. The could've taken an extended vacation to tap a maple tree in the time it took... The $15 bottomless mimosas seemed like a good idea but there was probably less than a single glass of champagne between the several we got for the table. The lamb (patty) Benedict was flavorless. Such a shame to have such pretentious and pathetic food in such a great venue. Really just a waste and a shame. read more

So I get that they are trying to make this a very pleasant dining experience but there is room for improvement. The complimentary valet is nice but maybe a bit over the top. The decor is beautiful inside. The service is not exemplary. The water cups are very small and I think they should have a staff member who is always available to fill up water. We also ordered some apps but no one explained anything on the app boards which I think should have done if they claim their restaurant to be such an elite dining experience. Waiter was not always available and we waited a long time for a drink list. Food was amazing though. My dish was hot and very good. read more

I have never felt compelled to leave a yelp review for any business ever, until now. I had a disastrous evening at the Edison on Friday night. It started with attitude from the hostesses. Although they may hope that snobbery conveys some sort of sophistication, it is quite the opposite. We were there for 2 hours and were *never* seated because they "ran out of menus". The apps and drinks we tried to order at the bar were all out (not one item but more than 3! most of the wine list was not being served). Our apps, while we were waiting for our table at the bar, did not come after more than an hour. What made the night a true failure was when the fire alarm went off - bright strobe lights and loud ringing - for about 45mins and no one ever explained to us what was happening, if we should evacuate, etc. We finally asked and were told that the kitchen was closed. So it became unclear that we were waiting for nothing. The bartender was very polite and friendly and comped my drink because we left before I finished it. The entire experience seemed like a joke - certainly "no restaurant in town offers a more unique dining experience" as their website claims. I'm actually embarrassed that people visiting Tallahassee might think that this is what we have to offer. read more

I have never written a review before however I have never experienced such horrible customer service. I myself am a business owner and know that some days are very challenging. I assume Mike is maybe a manager at best although he says he is the owner. He definitely does not have what it takes to own let alone manage a business. My family is in Tallahassee at least a dozen time a year and enjoy going out. We love the atmosphere of the Edison as well as the food. We made reservations as always. Requested a outside table. Waited an hour before we asked how much longer. Obviously they forgot "Mike was who we checked in with" and offered us a table inside. We declined and asked about a table that was empty. He said it was to hard to seat 4 people there even though it was a table for 4 and had a set up for 4. We then asked for the table beside it that was paying their bill. He said no he was going to use it for a larger party and use that table with the other one he said was to crowed for us. He then proceeded to sit a party of four at two tables that clearly could sit eight. We continued to be nice although he was extremely rude and angry. Poor Mike needs an attitude adjustment before he ruins the business at The Edison. read more

We were given reservations for 2pm on opening day brunch. When we got there they told us the brunch buffet was being taken down but we could order from the menu. After twenty minutes of waiting to place our order (and receive waters) we were told the cook said he actually wasn't going to start cooking from the menu yet. The waiter told us it would be the brunch buffet after all. However, when we went inside the buffet was in fact half way taken down and the only things left were potatoes, grits, and bacon. We were very confused as to why we would be given reservations at a time when no food was being served but decided it excuse it as first day kinks. We told our waiter we would come back another day and left. I can say that the waiter was extremely apologetic but was unable to explain how they were going to stay open all day with no current food options. As we left someone came running out after us and offered us a free app if we wanted to stay but as the waiter had just told us the cook said he wasn't cooking we declined the offer. I do still look forward to hopefully being able to update this review. The staff was very friendly despite all of the confusion and the location was great. read more

I came to visit my son in Tallahassee last weekend, and enjoyed a feast at Edison Saturday evening with a few of his friends. The company was wonderful, the ambiance a perfect blend of casual and dress-in-your best formal...and the meal, spectacular from start to finish. From the amazing appetizers (Southern Board--fried oysters and fried English muffin bread, fresh pimento cheese spread and brown sugar bacon) to the Catch of the Day (grilled swordfish) with beyond delicious charred brussel sprouts, and to the just-right strawberries, trifle and shortcake, we reveled in each bite. My fellow diners also raved about the pork chops and lamb. The service, likewise, was impeccable. Our server was both warm and exceedingly professional. Thank you to everyone at Edison for an unforgettable evening. I will definitely come and feast with you again, next time I'm in Tallahassee. Until then, I'll remember every delectable bite, in a most gracious setting. Thank you again for a matchless evening. read more

1) Food, 2) Decor and 3) Service define the qualities of a restaurant. We were there the evening of 02/19/16. The setting was quite nice, sometimes a little to cute in its thematic décor, the food pretty darn good. However, the wait staff were largely unknowledgeable and not astute in taking orders for mixed drinks or wines, knowledge about the food products, or how the kitchen prepared the food.Throughout the restaurant the staff appeared quite young and better suited to serve a collegiate clientele near campus. The job is more than simply being attentive to the table. They were obviously inexperienced in supporting what is to be a premier restaurant. When either more mature staff are hired, or give the staff a year to mature and learn their roles so they are soaked in the knowledge that is necessary to support the restaurant, then we will return. Two out of three not bad for a new restaurant. The Edison has the potential to truly excel. read more

Returned for my third visit with a friend from St. Pete on Friday night, again we had a reservation but had to wait 15 minutes for our table. I am thinking that the 15 minute wait is fixed into their reservation time. Hostesses are always very apologetic for the wait, and all in all 15 minutes is not that a big of a wait. For this visit our server was Mallory, she was totally charming, pleasant, and lovely! She quickly greeted us and took out drink and appetizer order and explained the specials and such. Quickly she returned to the table with our beverage orders and told us the appetizer would be just a few more minutes. She had not been gone more than two minutes when another waiter brought our Mezze Board to the table. The Mezze Board was just as good this visit as it was the first time we ordered the board. Our entrees quickly came to the table after we finished the Mezze Board, and Mallory was back to check on us and our beverages. I ordered the burger, one friend got the shrimp and grits and the other got the pork chop. I thought the burger was perfectly cooked, and it was enjoyable plus the shoe string potato sides were awesome. Shrimp and grits were also delicious and enjoyable. My friend liked the slight touch of heat that was added with seasoning, seasoned perfectly! The pork chop was also wonderfully seasoned and tasty, as was the corn on the cobb. The chop is huge so be prepared and hungry if you order this entrée. All three of us really enjoyed our dinner and were very happy with our selections. For dessert we all tried the Key Lime Brulee, it was perfection! My only complaint which I hesitate to even mention is that the serving is rather large and I had to leave some behind. Everything I mentioned in my last review has been corrected and that is all I can ask for as a diner. I will be back for visit four very soon!!!! read more
