Tonight's dinner was fantastic. Ryan, our waiter, provided great service. Our glasses were never even low. I had the blackened salmon and my BF had the burger. That was one of the best burgers in Tallahassee! Aioli was yummy. We sat outside with live music. It was a perfect night with the heaters in place. We could see and listen to the waterfalls during dinner. I would highly recommend the Edison. It feels like you are in a different city. Such a nice night. read more

My boyfriend and I went to The Edison last night and I would have to say the service was not the best! Our waitress, Tiffany, was very biased and female unfriendly! The male at the table got all of the attention and the female none! This is not the type of attitude I expected from such a classy restaurant and neither did my boyfriend! Don't go for the food, the location, unique environment and view don't make up for the lack luster food. My friend and I went to Edison's for the first time for a late lunch. We heard that the menu was upscale cuisine, with the prices to match. The historic building and the décor is amazing. And the view of the park is also wonderful. The restaurant was deserted at this hour in the afternoon. But still, we were seated at a small table in front of the door to the outside patio, with wait staff in and out constantly, and the cold air blowing in on us each time. I would have enjoyed a nice booth table with a view of the park. But that was my bad, I did not ask to be re-seated. The service was very good, but again, the restaurant was empty. They do some things well; like serving the french fries a heated cast iron pot so they stay warm, and serving ice cream in a chilled martini glass. And cloth napkins are a nice touch. But don't go for the food! It is mediocre at best, very bland, no seasoning at all. I ordered fish and chips. The order came with 3 very small pieces of fish, and turned out most of it was breading, and not much fish. It was crisp, but very oily, and did I mention, no flavor. The fries were common shoe string, but did come hot and stayed warm for the entire meal. They offer only one vegetarian dish at lunch, unless you want a salad. If you have any dietary restrictions at all, don't go there, they were not at all interested in making any type of accommodation. Went with friends to have dessert while strolling through Cascades Park. Keep in mind I did not try the actual dinner or lunch menu, so it may be a much different experience, but I gotta say, we ordered three chocolate cakes and for $10 they were terrible. These were obvious store bought cakes that tasted dry and the frosting was sooo dry and thick, it was like trying to eat concrete paste. I think a little Debbie Snack cake would have been much preferred to this contractor cake. The nerve of this place to charge $10 for this nasty inedible cake. I mean if thats all you offer for $10 and it tastes that bad, you may as well just not offer dessert at all because this is not doing you any favors. That was poop cake and it looked like poop as well! Next time we will just go to Publix and buy an entire Pepperidge Farm cake and call it a night! At least it would be edible! Shame on you Edison, your light bulb must not have been working when you decided to add that to your menu! read more

The Edison is a fun restaurant. It is a great location and the building is is spot on for a Power company. The food was pretty good but my service was VERY slow. I had to leave my table and go to the bar to get a drink as we didn't get a waiter for over 15 minutes after being seated. The bar had a decent beer menu but was out of at least half the things listed on the menu so there really wasn't much to choose from on tap. Our food took a long time to come out but was good). I visited Tallahassee this weekend for a friends graduation and we decided to go to be Edison. I've never been before but everyone I went with said it was super nice and the food was great. First impressions were good, the place itself looked amazing! The inside was beautiful and the park around it makes it fit in perfectly but it's not on what's the outside that counts, it's about the inside. First off, we had a party of like twelve with a huge table. Unfortunately we only had one waiter who attended us, who was super nice but didn't check up on us a lot. When everyone's food came out mine came out ten minutes after everyone' else's. When I got the food, the home fries were pretty bland with not much favor and the lamb wasn't very good. I had a lamb Benedict so I just ate the toast and the egg and didn't even eat the lamb. Overall I didn't have an awful experience I expected it to be better for how much it was. read more

This was my first time here. Our waiter was great very attentive and knew the menu. The food was good but I wouldn't call it great. I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp in my opinion were slightly over cooked, the grits were good but not the grits I thought I would get. They are not your typical breakfast grits. I have to say that my experience last night was night and day different from my last few experiences and I was more than pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing, the seating was upgraded and provided a much more comfortable and effective eating experience. Our table ordered the lobster guacamole, salmon with asparagus and pureed sweet potato, the cheese board, brussel sprouts, pad thai, and the key lime pie. With the exception of the key lime pie, EVERYTHING was amazing. We let our server know the pie was severely underwhelming so I won't go into the details of why but if you are familiar with and like the taste of key lime pie this dessert will not be for you! read more

I've been to the Edison a handful of times. First off, its absolutely ridiculous that this is THE restaurant at cascades. Everyday tallahasseeans cannot afford this overpriced garbage. Second, when you call a menu item "bread service," you would think this implies multiple rounds of bread -- something complimentary at most restaurants, and here you are paying for it. Nope, the cheapskates that run this place give you one lousy round of stale bread. That'll keep the freeloaders away huh?! Third, if you serve something called like "good/famous" fried chicken, there better be SOME spices on it. This is an outrage. Even KFC spices their chicken. Here you pay good money to get absolutely bland fried meat. And half the servers are precocious and god bless them, need more experience. Maybe pop some money out of the city ATM again, or the one on the back of the restaurant, buy some spices for the chicken, give people, i don't know, maybe at least TWO rounds of bread for their "bread service" and let your servers get some rest or train them, or SOMETHING. Overpriced monopolistic BS! I live in Myers Park and would frequent this place if it was worth it's salt. Totally wasted opportunity. read more

Really wanted to like this place because the atmosphere is perfect but was very underwhelmed. After asking the hostess if outside seating was self seating, we sat at a table and waited 20 minutes before anyone greeted us. When the waitress finally came over all she asked was who sat us and then disappeared for another 15 minutes. During all of this we had no water or menus. When she finally came back she told us brunch came with a complimentary mimosa and she would bring those and water soon. We reminded her that we still don't have menus and she then told us that all they have is brunch buffet on Saturday but maybe one day they will have a full menu. After waiting 45 minutes to be told that our only option for food was a self serve buffet that had overpriced, mediocre food and crappy service we won't be back anytime soon. read more

We had Sunday brunch at the Edison today. All they had was a buffet. The buffet consisted of yogurt with grapes, berries and granola; Bradley's grits, fried potatoes, chunks of overlooked beef, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage and little pasties. Overall, mediocre. Because it was a buffet, the only service we should have needed was drinks. However, our table lacked salt and pepper and butter. Who eats grits without butter? And salt? It took a while to get them. It also took a while to get our drinks. When the waitress brought my coffee, she said she'd be right back with sugar/sweeteners. She disappeared for a while. She came back when I was about half through eating and I gestured at my coffee cup to remind her about the sugar and she asked if I wanted more coffee. I said that she still hadn't brought my sugar, whereupon she apologized and promptly brought some. After we finished eating she brought the check and disappeared again. We stuck our card in the little folder and waited. After a while I just held the folder with our the card in it up in the air. Finally, another waitress took it and said she would find our server. She went off to the kitchen. Then she came back out of the kitchen still carrying the folder and our card and went over to the hostess stand and talked to a couple of staff members for a while. Then she went back around our table and into the main part of the restaurant, still carrying the folder and our card. Eventually our waitress returned from whatever errand she was on and we were able to pay up and depart. So much for food and service. What about atmosphere? The music is so loud you can't carry on a conversation. The interior decor is an attempt at industrial chic and is a good example of what it's supposed to be. The layout, however is poor. Too many tables crammed into the space. Our table was right in the main traffic lane to the kitchen and we felt like we were going to be run over any minute. Would we go back again? Not for brunch. There are too many good brunch places in this town to waste time and money here. If they stay in business and the reviews improve, we might go for dinner, but I'm in no hurry to do that. read more

While the location is absolutely gorgeous, and the cocktails tasty, the service here was horrendous. My friends arrived and were told that all the tables were reserved. We decided to take a seat at the bar outside and enjoy a cocktail. The bartender had few ingredients and was unable to make many cocktails. One friend had to wait over 20 minutes for her drink and another a good 15. While this was annoying to us, it was apparently also annoying to the bar tender as she loudly complained the entire time. Meanwhile, 40% of the "reserved" tables went unoccupied for the hour we were at the restaurant. I will wait a good while to try again. read more

Stopped in late afternoon on New Year's day for drinks and appetizers. Beautiful building with great views. However, the appetizer food we ordered, (gumbo, calamari) was practically inedible. This location has a lot of potential, but if the food quality of these appetizers is any indication of how good their pricey entrees are, this restaurant will not survive. High end pricing requires more than a great location and a beautiful building, the food quality has to be great as well. read more

I'm being generous with one star because the food was not bad. From the moment we walked in, it went downhill. From the rude manager who barely could give us the time of day to inform us there would be no seating for the rest of the day, but oh you can sit at the bar (there were 4 of us) to the equally rude and inattentive server at the bar. Coffee for breakfast makes sense, right?? Had to ask rude bartender/server for the coffee 10+ minutes after he took our order, only to be told he would get it when he had a minute! Really??? The food I'll give you was good IF you ate it right away because the bar area had an Arctic wind blowing through. Never again will we visit this restaurant. We had a great Friday night at the Edison last night. Gary at the outside bar was the man! He was super attentive and his cocktails were delicious. Really good appetizers, but the tuna tartar was meh, mayonnaise in it? Can't believe I'm saying this but I would like to see some more affordable food options and domestic beers to bring in a more variety of folks (they help pay for the place after all). I've heard great things about The Edison so I decided to take my parents there to show off Tallahassee. It did not disappoint...the view was amazing and the service was exceptional. My parents were impressed with the Salmon dish, shrimp and scallops, and I had the delicious pork chop. Manager even came by to chat with us for a bit! I will be back!! read more

THE WORST SERVICE EVER! We made a reservation for Friday, October 30 at 8:15 for an inside table. Not only did we have to wait an additional hour for our table they sat us outside and it was quite chilly that evening and we were completely unprepared to sit outside. After waiting for another hour plus for our drinks and appetizers, and many complaints in between, they moved us to an inside table. At that point they told us we couldn't sit there for very long as they would find us yet another table. I finally had enough and told the manager that if they moved us, they would have to eat the entire bill as we would be leaving (a party of 8). Finally received our food and it was definitely not worth the wait. No help whatsoever from the management nor did they compensate us in any way. Won't ever go back. read more

So I heard good things about this place. Walking up to the front door I was still positive about the experience even with one of the decorative flame light being out, which should have been a sign. The server in training was promptly pouring water, introducing himself and small talking as he went around the table. A couple of people took liberty to order a couple of initial apps, thank god, too bad they took 20 minutes to arrive. In the meantime our server showed up a while later a little flustered no intro that I heard and took a few drink order from those that didn't get one at the bar before the table was ready. Only a group of 9 I might add, in a room with 3 other larger parties who appeared to have the same server. We didn't see much of the server much afterward and so much time went by still drink one and barely an appetizer to eat that the next time we did see one we order a slew of appetizers and the wedge salad and drinks. Certainly not a wedge that's for sure. It was an entire head of Bibb lettuce. Again everything took so long that when it did arrive we asked for our bill. Just before the apps, drinks arrived and one of our group ordered a Moscow mule. An attempt at it is what we got. A quarter full and possibly could have been just melted ice delivered to the table. To sum it up not good service (I'll chalk this up to lack of numbers on the service team) poor training and the suit wearing management team didn't look old enough to shave! No owner in site. Our group anticipated spending $75 per person but each spent a third of that. Revenue loss like that will equal doors closing. About the only thing positive about the evening was the food was hot and delicious when it arrived. I stress when! read more

Really enjoyed our dinner at The Edison tonight. My fiancé and I had a reservation at 6:45 and were sat promptly at that time. We were sat at a table that was a little too small for our liking and the hostess was very accommodating and moved us down to a larger area. The venue is immaculate and I imagine everyone knows that by now. It was my date's first time and by the end of the dinner I think she mentally redesigned our entire home to look like the restaurant. It's just a fantastic place and the ambience is unlike anything in Tallahassee. We started with the Southern Board and the Cheese Board. The Southern Board was a highlight of the night. It came with 5 crispy well-seasoned oysters in a deliciously tangy remoulade sauce. It also included brown sugar bacon on a creamy pimiento cheese swirl. This was absolutely perfect with the bread they included. The best surprise of the Board was the pickled vegetables. I saved what I had left to eat with my entree. WAY too good to waste. My date loved her cheese plate which had Brie and some different types of Bleu Cheese. I am in no way a cheese aficionado, but she is, and she ate almost all of it. This is a lot of cheese folks. It also came with a tomato jam that really went well with the bread and a little bit of the pimiento cheese! For our main courses we ordered the Pork Chop and the Flat Iron Steak. Our server, Andrew, who was excellent recommended an item for every palate. Nice touch! When he mentioned the pork chop, I was sold. I'll tell you right now.....the pork chop is the dish you HAVE to get. I've never had flavors quite like these and it was also cooked to perfection (medium). This a THICK chop and there was a little pink around the bone that was SO flavorful. Bravo. The chop is beautiful upon presentation and has a hint of sweetness to it. I believe I overheard the chef saying that it's marinated in apricots or something! So wild. Very unique. The Mexican charred corn was a perfect pairing with it and acted to balance out the sweetness. My date ordered the flat iron medium and it was cooked beautifully. It was just a well cooked piece of meat and the seasoning was on point. My favorite part of her plate was the Brussels sprouts. Try them. They're perfect. Some of the best we've ever had. We were WAY too stuffed to eat dessert, so we bowed out, but there were tons of options I will try next time. We all knew the updated building is gorgeous and the venue is outstanding, but I think the service and DEFINITELY the food has hit its stride at The Edison. We had a blast. read more

A Place to Escape: The Edison Finding an upscale restaurant in the middle of a college town isn't as easy as it sounds. Last week, I had to find a restaurant for a friend's birthday, but every one I came across was either too casual or too expensive. Then I stumbled upon The Edison. The pictures of the building, food, and outside park looked stunning and I made a reservation. Inspired by Thomas Edison, the creator of the first lightbulb, the restaurant is the epitome a unique, trendy place to celebrate any type of event. Located in Tallahassee, The Edison is the perfect area to go to relax and escape for a little while. How it all started Four years ago, the abandoned power plant was completely renovated into a popular, hip restaurant. One of the owners, Ryan, who I met during my experience at The Edison, explained how his family sensed an emptiness in Tallahassee's dining business and wanted to take part in correcting it. The history of the electric power plant dates to the 1920s, but the plant became a waste of space when it was closed. Since, the restaurant has been welcomed by the community with many regular customers. Dining Options The food created at The Edison is presented in a clean, appetizing way. The menu consists of local, fresh items with a light southern feel. With reasonable prices, each entrée has a unique name ranging from Seminole Soul Bowl to Skyway Chicken. During dinner, I ordered the ravioli, which came in a great, white-rimmed bowl filled with a vast portion size. The chicken and vegetable pasta was dressed in a delightful pink vodka sauce, making my taste buds dance. My friend ordered the herbed chicken whose sweet aroma filled the air around us. The dish came with mixed vegetables as a side, large enough for two to share. To say the least, the dishes made at The Edison are fresh, delicious and leave you wanting more. Cascades Park The restaurant is placed besides Cascades Park, which creates the most beautiful backdrop to the already impressive dining area. The immense windows lead to the view of winding trails and lush greenery. After dinner, my friend and I went on a walk through the park which included beautiful flowers, baby blue bench swings, and a variety of fountains. The park also includes more tables for dining and a small café which serves coffee and brunch items. The park is about ten minutes away from Florida State University, making it the perfect place to study. The stunning view of Cascades Park allows guests to relax and explore the many features of the trails. Simplicity is Key The Edison has taken an abandoned area and turned it into a fantastic place to dine in Tallahassee. Its traditional brick architecture defies the modern scene inside the restaurant. The bright, white lighting and incorporated wood and blue colors set a cool tone throughout the dining room. The affordable prices, attentive service, and enticing dishes, add to the enjoyable overall experience. The windows overlooking Cascades Park allow sights of fountains, greenery, and nature trails. The additional bar and café outside the business contribute to the idea that everyone can enjoy an aspect of the restaurant. The tribute to old power plant and to Thomas Edison is done in an inclusive way for all the community to appreciate. College students and adults will enjoy their experience at The Edison. The restaurant is of definite recommendation from me and I will be stopping by the next time I am in the area. read more

I first went to the Edison before its official grand opening, and everything had been phenomenal. The decor, the service, the food... so when I graduated this past weekend I wanted to celebrate there after the ceremony. However, it was such an extreme let down, I'm still upset about it. They were out of practically every wine we wanted and the one they recommended based on what we were asking for was alright. Thankfully they didn't charge us the over $40 the bottle was originally priced, instead only charging us the price of the bottle we originally wanted (so no hard feelings there), but then we ordered a spinach and artichoke dip which never came. We had been waiting over 40 minutes when my mom started feeling light headed from the wine and asked a waiter (because our waitress was no where to be found) for a piece of bread, anything to have in her stomach while we waited for our food. To our dismay, he said he couldn't bring us anything, but we could order a FRIED english muffin. We only wanted like a piece of toast... whatever, I told mom the artichoke dip couldn't POSSIBLY take any longer so we waited another 5-10 minutes (where the waitress still didn't pass by at all. Finally, I went to find her and asked what was going on and she said "oh, the appetizer never came out? I thought you would have that by now" WELL, maybe if you would pass by our table once every 30 minutes you would have noticed it was bare. So then the manager stops by and says that they dropped the ball and the appetizer was never made but that our food was ready so they could just bring that out and they would give us a free dessert. So we ate, and the filet (THE $45 FILET) was incredibly subpar. Cooked to the right degree but shockingly dry and tasteless. The other plates were alright, but nothing phenomenal. Overall, we had a pretty terrible experience, and where I had been raving about the restaurant after my first visit, I will now adamantly tell my friends to stay away and save their money. read more

When I visited this restaurant, i was in awe. The ambiance was nice and because i was 8 mos pregnant, I LOVED the fact that there was free valet parking. There was an upstairs spot, an outside spot and a bar. There were quite a few things that I didn't care for though. First, I was taken aback by were the prices. The prices were much higher than I was expecting them to be, not to mention the menu selection was very little. Also, the amount of food you get for what you pay is a very small amount. I ended up ordering a hamburger and had to send it back two times and they still got it wrong. I requested it to be taken off my bill and I decided to eat elsewhere. Maybe because it was graduation weekend, but it also took FOR-EVER to get my food. All of these factors put a bad taste in my mouth and made me feel as if I didn't want to make a return visit. My wife had lunch at the Edison and ordered a Chicken Caesar salad to go to bring to me at the airport. When my flight arrived she was still waiting at the restaurant (nearly 20 minutes) for a salad she pre-ordered. I sat outside the airport to have a nice lunch with her from the "upscale" restaurant. I didn't expect it to be warm, but I didn't expect what I received. The food was worse than stadium, mall, or airport food. The sparse amount of chicken was way over cooked and the there was next to no dressing. I cant remember what she paid but it was alot. There is no way they will stay in business if they don't change the chef or management. Come on , it's a chicken Caesar. read more
