I love a good breakfast and The Egg Bistro did not disappoint. At first glance I thought this place was going to be packed but there was plenty of seating and even though they were a little busy a waitress came over pretty quickly and got our drink order. The service here was great. You can really tell the staff works together and that's nice to see. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with cheese eggs and substituted the hash browns for home fries. I also added a side of bacon. My boyfriend ordered the steak bowl. My food was great. I was a little overwhelmed with the amount of home fries they gave me. It's weird to complain about too much food but those were some serious potatoes. And for as many as they gave me they were just ok. However, my boyfriend had a bunch in his steak bowl and he couldn't stop raving about them so it was just my preference. I really enjoyed the rest of my food though the biscuits and gravy was top notch and my cheese eggs were cooked perfectly. At the end of our meal our waitress signed us up for their rewards program. The only breakfast place that you want to come back to, nit just bevause you don't want to cook anything. The Egg Bistro is by far the best breakfast place I've ever been to in Hampton Roads. The first time I came I got the Skillet, hot, sizzling iron pan. The potatoes, bacon, and sausage all compensated well for the relative lack of seasoning. I'm a teen guy, so it takes I lot to make me full. Though I was able to scarf down pancakes, sausage the main dish, and extra hash browns, I was actually full after it. Purely Satisfied. I've got many other spectacular entrees at this place the best being the Meatlovers Omelet. I stuff my order with about extras of everything, but nothing has exceeded $12. The service is the reason for the four stars. Decent but really doesn't stand out from the average 757 hospitality. Its almost always busy, but Ive nevrr had to wait more tham 15 minutrs for a table. They do have an awesome rewards program, where if you visit x many times you get benefits, but that's not what motivates me to keep coming back. read more

The name of this place did me in. Friends called it "The Broken Egg" and I felt like a character from Family Guy coming to visit Quahog's local bar "The Drunken Clam." So I was stoked but it is nothing like "The Drunken Clam," and am actually glad about it! Our first visit was for early dinner on Friday. Friday happy hour special was $4 martinis... with hefty selection of them. All unconventional and fun. To eat, I ordered the Crab Cake burger with Avocado and started with the "Gummy" martini. Crab cake was on the salty side but still edible and the martini tasted like straight gummy bears... can I get a "Hell yeah!?" Night rolled on, 4 martini's later... I WAS GOOD. I got to try the Grey.... something... it had amaretto in it... then 2 other different ones I quite frankly can't remember due to the fact I was already buzzin' and started ordering random things. They don't skimp on the booze here. Our next visit was Sunday brunch... all I have to say is, ALL HAIL TO THEIR BLOODY MARYS! They used Cilantro Absolute, which elevated it to a completely different level. Brought my tastebuds to flavor tears of praise. Food was solid. Ordered the breakfast BLT with an over medium egg and avocado with cubed hash browns... that with my Bloody Mary brought me to paradise. The Broken Egg Bistro came highly recommended by many of my friends. This last trip to Chesapeake, we finally made it in. What a busy place! I think every car in the parking lot must have belonged to someone dining in the restaurant. When we walked in I expected a longer wait, but we had a table within 5-10 minutes. They do a good job of handling the crowds here. Of course my visit was on a Friday morning - I imagine there is a line out the door on weekends. I didn't realize they served Mimosas and Bloody Mary's - in fact they have a full bar. At the recommendation of our server Regina, I tried the pomegranate Mimosa. She was right - this one was very tasty and I enjoyed the slight tanginess of the pomegranate very much. They offer a large Mimosa for just 50 cents more - it comes in a large wine glass and was well worth the extra expense! The food was prepared fresh and served hot. Service was quite efficient and friendly. The French Toast that someone at the table next to me ordered looked delicious. I was in the mood for something more savory so I ordered the BLT topped with a fried egg and cheddar on sourdough. The bacon was peppered, smoky and thick. There was a lot of bacon on this sandwich. They prepared the egg just as I requested so it oozed on the sandwich. Two thick slices of cheddar topped it off. I was only able to eat 1/2 of my sandwich. My husband chose the biscuits and gravy served with eggs and hash browns. Biscuits and gravy is another one of my favorites so I couldn't resist a taste. My only complaint here was the gravy needed a bit more sausage, but it was very flavorful and the biscuits were buttery and light. They are open for lunch and dinner plus offer specials during the week - 1 pound of shrimp, prime rib, $4 margaritas and martinis. If I lived in the area, I would definitely give them a try for dinner. We rarely frequent Chesapeake restaurants simply because the place strikes us as a culinary no-go zone. Nothing but chains, chains and more chains with an occasional independent joint thrown in that you really have to look for to find. But one of those finds is the Broken Egg Bistro. You can easily spot it by simply looking for the dozens of people standing outside waiting to get in. Not kidding. There were at least 30 people waiting to get in when we arrived and at least that number when we left over an hour later. The food is excellent. Everything is fresh from scratch and made to order. My wife had the southwestern omelet (huge and delicious) and I had the biscuits and gravy with eggs. I tend to be reluctant to order this in most places since there are so many bad versions out there but this one hit the spot. The biscuits were perfect and the gravy tasted like somebody actually cared about what they were doing when they made it. However, there are some down sides on the service front. There does not seem to be a sense of urgency when it comes to clearing tables after a party leaves. Once we were seated (after a 30 minute wait), I noticed that many tables stayed dirty for too long before somebody came by to bus it. I think if the management was a little more vigilant they would be able to get the throngs of waiting customers seated faster and increase their turnover. It also seems like it would increase their revenue but maybe they make enough money with the business they already have. Who knows? Our food also took over 30 minutes to arrive after we ordered. I didn't think this was too egregious since you could tell the kitchen was cranking. And when our order arrived as I mentioned before, it was scrumptious. Every time I've eaten at the Egg Bistro, aka The Broken Egg, the food has been amazing. It's my favorite spot for breakfast in this area. I especially love the chicken fried steak and the biscuits with sausage gravy. The omelets are awesome as well. In addition to the wonderful food the staff is very friendly and everyone makes you feel welcome. Unfortunately, I rarely get there since they pushed back their opening time to 7AM. A small group of us used to go there for breakfast after getting off work in the morning but with the new opening time it no longer works for us. The Broken Egg is a local independently owned business so I can recommend it without hesitation, it's so much nicer than eating at a big chain restaurant. The 3 "hostesses" were completely incompetent. 5, yes FIVE tables continuously sat empty while hungry patrons wandered the parking lot like a scene out of "The Walking Dead". Once sat, our server promptly took our drink order. By the time she returned, we had all decided, and closed our menus. She dropped off the drinks and skated off like Tony Hawk at the X-Games. Once we were able to order, it took 28 minutes for our food to arrive. I ordered the monte cristo with shredded hash browns. My hash browns were cold. They were also not brown. I have not been here in years, until last week BUT going forward I plan to never return to this location. I met a friend for lunch on Wednesday. I ordered the Buffalo Soldier (a chicken breast sandwich lightly breaded and I chose "hot" as the sauce) without tomato with fries and he ordered the Philly Cheese Steak with fries. I get my food and the first thing I see...a tomato...gross me out!!! Then I see 3 chicken fingers that were obviously dipped into a hot sauce and placed or a bun. Ummm the menu read "chicken breast." I was highly disappointed. His Philly looked like chopped steak on a white bread sub roll. He was ok with it, but it didn't even smell like a philly, no greese...just a blah sandwich. Because I was disappointed, I figured I will just order a salad to go maybe that will be suffice...nope!!! I order the Asian salad...such a bad choice. The chicken in the salad did not look like chicken, the dressing very thick and not tasty at all. This establishment does not disappoint! They have an amazing selection of food for any time of the day. I snagged the Bistro Omlette for breakfast. It had a nice clean feel to it (not a grease bomb) with the broccoli and chicken. The cubed hash browns felt as if they came right off the skillet and we're crisp. The wheat toast came out without butter which is a bonus for me. I honestly expected this place to be a greasy spoon/mom&pop joint. It's all nice and fancy with interesting decor and clean. Service (once you're seated) is fantastic with professional attentive waitresses. A special shout out to Miranda who was at our table and eager to help just as we needed it. If I have one complaint it would be that the place is just too loud. Dinner should be relaxing yet fun. The cavernous setting does little to tamp down the noise. Because of their popularity, coming before 9:00AM is a must on weekends. Half off Bloody Marys and mimosas before 9:00 are also a plus. Dropped in last Saturday for the first time with my wife for brunch, and was not disappointed... I had the Firecracker omelet and my wife ordered the Meat Lovers omelet. Both came out promptly and delicious and our waitress was very nice.. The decor was nice, and my wife really liked the art work on the walls as well as the clothes on display. A little loud but I credit that to good business so I wouldn't complain! I really enjoyed the beer menu and can say I would return again on the strength of that alone. You will wait 30 - 40 minutes because this place is awesome and tons of people go there. Wait staff are friendly and fast and I often see the owners working. It seems like a family environment. I no longer live in Hampton Roads but when I am in the neighborhood, i have breakfast at The Broken Egg. It is unfortunate that people use Yelp to disparage a business based on pettiness. It's always a pleasure coming here for breakfast or brunch. When they are not busy you seat yourself. But when they are busy you have to check in with the hostess. During busy hours the wait can be anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes but the wait is worth it. While waiting you can order from the bar. I have yet to try their famous Bloody Mary but I've heard good things. Usually I order a waffle. I ordered the combo which came with sausage or bacon, and either hash browns or eggs. It's only $7.99. Worth it. They are delicious. I usually order it with bananas on top but this time I got it with chocolate chips. I think it's about $1.79 for the add on? The service is always great. The waitresses are always friendly and smiling. I take off one star because there were two occasions where I found hair in my food. I understand it happens but it was such a turn off. The first time it happened there was hair in my food and my sister's. But the staff handled it. On the second occasion the manager came by to talk to me and apologize. He took off my meal and discounted my boyfriend's food in addition to giving me a $10 gift card. Despite those two incidents I keep coming back. Luckily I haven't had this problem again. Everything I've tried has been great and the friendly staff make this the best breakfast spot in the area hands down. As good as it gets. This was my first time to the Broken Egg Bistro in Chesapeake. Our waitress, Jess, was by far one of the sweetest, most professional and attentive servers I have ever had. Ours was a party of five women-five indecisive women. Jess kept her sweet composure and never missed a beat. As for the food, we all walked away wishing we could eat more. There was a small issues with one of the meals which was quickly taken care of. The manager/owner himself came over and talked with us apologizing for the incident. I was extremely impressed. Many restaurants say they care about the customer but do not show that they care. Additionally, there was a sweet old man next to our table who told us he came in there quite often. Our waitress knew him by name and treated him like a family member. The Broken Egg Bistro is an establishment that feels like a small town diner. The Broken Egg Bistro has plenty to offer on their breakfast and lunch menu, which is also when you'll find the biggest crowd and longest wait. The mimosas are fantastic both traditional and flavored, I particularly like the peach. The food is pretty good and priced accordingly, you'll find a lot of traditional breakfast dishes here that are similar to other family owned spots. The host staff is not always the friendliest or most enthused but I have never had a bad experience with a member of the wait staff there. The wait staff are always happy and conversational, and know just how to balance space and care. If you frequent an IHOP or Denny's, I'd recommend switching this to your go to spot. read more

Went for the first time in Jan/2015, and was kinda disappointed. I ordered blueberry waffles and when it was delivered, the blueberries were FROZEN. I flagged the waitress down and she quickly whisked it away. A few moments later, either the manager or owner came to my table and explained that they obviously didn't give the blueberries enough time to defrost and something about some new procedures being put in place and the kitchen staff dropping the ball. It's been a long time coming, but I was in the mood for breakfast for lunch, and read this is the place that could make that happen. You may like to avoid The Egg Bistro for Sunday Brunch; this place is jam-packed at that time. This is, of course, unless you don't mind at least a 35 minute wait; they said 20, but trust me, it was closer to 40 minute. Come early or go a bit late. French Toast was calling my name on this day and The Egg Bistro didn't disappoint. Imagine 4 squares of thick cinnamon swirl french toast, two slices of bacon, and hash browns of the home fries variety. All of this for $7.99 -- A Bargain!! I washed that down with a Peach Mimosa. That was a great brunch for less than $14.00. Right, I cannot wait to go back for Breakfast or whatever! We have made this place a part of our Saturday morning routine. The line is long to get in for a reason...the food is great, generous portions, and affordable. I fed two and a half people for the cost of one meal in Disney World. The staff is always nice and attentive, really appreciate that.
