First time visit to this quaint little spot in Simi Valley. The decor is kitschy in this small cozy diner. Whenever I go to a breakfast spot, I always try the biscuits and gravy and they came highly recommended by our server. They were very friendly and sat us right away and the first thing they brought to us was their complimentary house coffee cake. I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The biscuits were as big as my face and tasted amazing. The gravy was a white gravy the kind you would normally find on a southern fried chicken steak. It was a very generous portion, however I prefer a more traditional gravy with sausage. Individually, though the gravy was tasty and the biscuits were tasty since they were both made from scratch. The bacon was thick cut and crispy just how I like it. Next visit I am going for pancakes. The customer service was amazing. Seriously top notch hospitality. If you find yourself in Simi check them out. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. No dinner service. Range: $$

I stopped by this restaurant in the morning to grab breakfast. Since I came right when they open, I was able to get the parking spot in the small plaza this restaurant is in. When I walked inside, I was their first customer of the day. The waiter said I can sit anywhere I like so I say next to the window. I went with the breakfast burrito and got a cup of fruits as my side. I asked what salsa does it come with and the waiter said the green salsa. My food came out quick and it was delicious. The green salsa was not spicy at all. The cup of fruits was a mixed of watermelon, grapes and cantaloupe which was good. The customer service was great and I didn't have any issues.

Every town has its hidden gems when it comes to small restaurants. Simi Valley has just one of these places, and it's called the egg house. We have been going there for some time now and have always been impressed with the food. Everything comes out hot, and looking really good. If you are traveling to LA, from LA, or just passing through, make this a must-stop for breakfast or lunch. The service is outstanding, the staff friendly, and the environment is cozy and welcoming. My wife and I highly recommend it.

The Egg House, on East Los AngelesAve in Simi Valley is a small breakfast/lunch location that has a diverse menu (open 6:30 am to 2 pm daily). Here you can find numerous items that are unique, in the popular categories of omelets, scrambles, pancakes, waffles, french toast, egg selections, mexican offerings, salads, soups and sandwiches, etc. When you sit at your table, you get a complementary piece of coffee cake. This is a wonderful touch at this eatery. The last time I was here, a year ago, my choice was the Huevos Rancheros. This time, the visit was specifically targeted to try their Swedish Pancakes. I asked for the powdered sugar on the side, they obliged and even brought the butter and pancake syrup on the side. I like that. In the middle of the 4 medium sized pancakes, arranged in succession, was their Lingonberries jam. For me, the beauty of the Swedish pancake, is its thinness, texture and unique taste of the cooked batter, especially when it is optimally browned. This dish checked all the boxes. I savored it with a few dabs of the butter and the jam (intermittently),so I could thoroughly enjoy the flavor of the pancake. Service here is always attentive and well executed. Easily one of my favorite places for breakfast, in Simi Valley.

Food was delicious. I had the chilaquiles with chorizo and my husband had the blueberry pancakes. Portions are huge. They serve you a small piece of coffee cake while you wait for your food. My only complaint was being boxed into a corner and having to ask the table next to us to stand up and move their chairs in order to get out of our booth. Our server couldn't even serve our food properly, he had to reach over my husband's head to set the food down.

Got in right before the lunch rushed. Love how the decorated the place. It feels homey. Immediately served with a complimentary something like a cake..good because I was hungry. We had to wait for a somewhat felt like a loooong time, the food came out very late. Other table that came after me already finished their food. . I almost asked the staff if they forgotten about my table then I realized, good food take time, pancakes and salad are easier and faster. So be patient when they are busy. You won't regret it. At last, everything came. It's a bit on a warm side not hot but its delicious and we are happy. As soon as we are done, I asked for a box for my left over. I packed it. I put the fork down and another staff came to clean the table. He said, take your time, take your time then he dropped the knife on my right hand. I was startled and laughing and he apologized. Then he picked up other plate and again he said the same thing, ( I thought he probably was joking or sarcastically saying get out of here ) and then he dropped another knife on my right hand AGAIN. This time, I got a tiny poke? Cut? by the butter knife. This time, I wasn't smiling anymore because of the situation and I felt a little pain on my hand. Well, since i like this place and the person that served my table is very nice, I will try it again next time. My advice is... when you are busy, sometimes its better not to throw a joke or a comment or a knife at your customer.

Makenna Coffee is seriously such a hidden gem!…read more I first discovered this place completely by accident a while back when one of my girlfriends and I were on our way to go camping. We were craving coffee, searched for the closest coffee shop, and happened to stumble across Makenna Coffee. I remember absolutely falling in love with their coffee and thinking, "I cannot wait until we come back this way so I can get this again!" Unfortunately, I never ended up making it back... until today! We happened to be in the area for an appointment at the Jeep dealership, and when I realized Makenna Coffee was nearby, there was NO WAY I was leaving without stopping. This was only my second time here, and somehow it was just as good as I remembered. Taylor helped me and she was such a sweetheart! I couldn't remember what I had ordered the first time, so she helped me pick out two different drinks to try -- the Sandy Blonde and the Maui Latte. I ordered them half sweet, and they were still a little sweeter than I normally prefer, but honestly, they were amazing nonetheless. I'm usually a black coffee/Americano kind of girl, but every once in a while I get a serious sweet tooth and want something fun and indulgent -- and Makenna Coffee is PERFECT for that. Their coffee is so good, and there's just something about this little spot that I've loved ever since I accidentally discovered it. I only wish I lived closer because I would definitely be here way more often. If you're ever in this area, do yourself a favor and stop at Makenna Coffee. He'll usually select one savory item and one sweet treat. Often, their Japanese-style egg salad tucked inside a pastry is so perfect for me. The actual dough is like a marriage between a bagel and a croissant. It's lighter than a bagel, but it's flavorful and tender like a croissant, but not flaky. The egg salad filling is just right for my tastebuds, and it provides protein in a fancy, delicious fashion. Today there was a hint of savory garlic on the pastry, and that added a nice flavor accent. Today's sweet pastry was an open-faced tart filled with a smooth, light chocolate base, topped with creamy custard, and then sliced pears on top. Mmm. I like the choice of pears offering a hint of the autumn season ahead. The last time we had out of town guests staying with us, we took my them to Le Herisson one morning. They fell in love with the food and the sweet, simple ambiance. The next morning, my sister-in-law got up early and went back over, bringing back a box of pastries for everyone to share. That definitely tells the story of how much everyone enjoyed the food offerings. It's a special treat to have a quality bakery like this in Simi.
