Date of visit: April 18, 2026 A group of us try to get together every few months since we don't work together any more and this time around I picked The Eleanor Room. I so rarely get to Greendale (honestly, can't say that I had ever been to anywhere in the village besides the mall) and I liked that we could make a reservation, making it a nice change of pace. The decor is lovely, very Art Deco, a nod to Eleanor Roosevelt, the namesake of the restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the interior was given that the exterior is essentially a strip mall. What's that old saying about books and their covers? Service was great, both attentive and timely, and everyone very much enjoyed their food. Monte Cristo is one of my favorites and this one was done very well. My coffee was also good and she kept it coming, which I also appreciated. Really the only sour note in the entire experience was being asked to vacate the table. While it was not handled terribly poorly, I would have recommended they offer us something to shift to the bar to not end the meal on a less than positive note, but that's just me. read more

Stopped by The Eleanor Room for a little night cap. The bar was empty and quickly greeted by the bartender. While they have a tremendous spirit collection, their wine list isn't as expansive. The one thing we all noticed was that the wine glasses are kept near the pass, and the warming lites. This made the glasses and subsequently the wine very warm. We had to wait 15 minutes to let things chill a bit before enjoying. On a positive note, after enjoying a pour of the SFTB, the owner came by with his new WSIB and offered us a taste as well. The staff was phenomenal and the ambiance was fantastic, dark and a bit moody. Our server was so friendly and helpful!! We went in a Tuesday so I got the margarita special which was good. To start we ordered brussel sprouts which lacked flavor. They were disappointing, there were bacon pieces and crispy onions but the actual brussel sprouts itself did not have much of any seasoning. I got the short rib bolognese for dinner and my friend did too. The consistency between the two dishes was off. Mine had much more meat and sauce than my friends. I have only stopped by for brunch and was excited to try more of the menu for dinner with my husband! We were delighted to learn about how they got their name and a little history about Greendale and Eleanor Roosevelt in the back of the menu. The space transforms a little for dinner, lower lighting for more ambiance dining. The menu has a good amount of options and the specials sounded delicious! I love that they start you out with an amuse bouche, it really elevates the experience. I went with the Peach & Herb Salad with chicken and my husband got the Short rib Bolognese. We both really enjoyed our dishes but sadly didn't save any room for dessert. Next time! Depending on when you go, downtown Greendale can get pretty busy, which makes parking challenging. Being in the neighborhood, I looked for an interesting bar, restaurant, or brewpub to explore. The Eleanor Room is a stunning restaurant with a lengthy, curved bar. My boyfriend and I are always fans of sitting at the bar. FYI: always a great people watching spot! This bar has a fascinating robot (?) drink mixer/shaker which the bartender used for my boyfriend's drink. Fascinating to me as I have never encountered one. I have now researched this tool annoyingly well. We didn't have anything to snack on or an entree, but they have quite an impressive menu. Hefty with a lunch/brunch-ish menu, dinner menu, and amusing (to me) groan inducing dad jokes. Find them at the bottom of their menu pages. Our bartender was very attentive while also giving us enough time to browse the above referenced exhaustive menu. They also had a holiday special cocktail list and a regular menu of unique cocktails. I was so excited to try this restaurant so we went for date night. The happy hour was good for sharing plates and cocktails for $10. The deviled eggs were just deviled eggs and the toppings were not really prominent in taste. Oysters were very small but seemed fresh. We also ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. The beef tartare which is what I was excited about the most, mostly tasted like mustard, there was maybe 1.5 TBSP of meat and these stale/ chewy breads with it. Completely not worth $24. The Brussel sprouts were ok but were seasoned quite a bit with black pepper which is just a seasoning I don't like. The crab cakes were not bad and the brioche trio was just not good at all. We have been back to The Eleanor Room quite a few times since the last review, and they have earned that extra star. We got Breelen for this visit, and she was fantastic! Very well-spoken and well-versed on the menu, she was an absolute delight. She had recommendations for us, and I was waffling between a couple of choices, and she helped me choose. Always a sucker for the garlic & dill pickle flatbread, those flavors and textures are a great precursor to a meal. It went well with the Nanner Old Fashioned I had to start things off, along with a Dreamy Cognac that my wife ordered. We found the premium price on the drinks to be acceptable because they were twice as good as you would find elsewhere. That's a typical line for me, I guess ;) The dinners we got were done to perfection - Eleanor's fried chicken - they give you plenty, since you have a half chicken to eat. Nice and crispy with the skin, which I love, and really moist on the inside. The chicken was not greasy; the chipotle honey was great for dunking in the chicken and the sweet potato planks - a really nice combo with the sweet and salty. Coleslaw was really good as well; I'm glad they went creamy and not vinegar for this, because I have yet to find a good vinegar coleslaw in my travels. The Butternut Squash Risotto with blackened salmon my wife got was a really great combination. The risotto was cooked just right, not overdone, and the accompanying flavors with root vegetables, vegetable stock, confit garlic, lemon zest & shaved asiago gave it a nice flavor profile as well. I grabbed a Grandma's Toffee Old Fashioned with dinner because I had to try it based on the write-up. Another delicious drink that I'd go back for - this was a great Parent's Night Out dinner event. This time we were seated at the opposite end of the restaurant, which was straight back as you entered the facility. We've been here several times and it never disappoints. The food is always top quality--fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with great ingredients. While it's not the cheapest place around, the quality absolutely justifies the price, so we never mind paying for such a great meal. The atmosphere is one of our favorite parts. It has a really cool speakeasy, 1920s-style vibe that makes the entire dining experience feel unique and special. Great food, great atmosphere, and consistently excellent service. A group of five of us came to the Eleanor Room for lunch. We were all happy with our food. One had a chicken sandwich, and she said it was the best chicken sandwich she ever had at a restaurant. Two had the steak frite and both enjoyed it. I am pretty much a vegetarian and had a hard time finding something with protein to eat. So I had garlic and dill pickle flatbread which WAS very good despite no protein. Thus, my suggestion would be to have a few vegetarian (tofu, meatless protein, etc) options. Stopped in for lunch at Eleanor Room and had a great experience. We sat at the bar -- super chill atmosphere and the service was awesome. Everyone was really friendly and on top of things without being over the top. We met another couple to have a special dinner celebrating their special event. Cameron was our server and approached us and asked for beverage order while we waited for the other couple to arrive. They showed up right behind us and also ordered drinks nd we ordered a charcuterie board of cheese, meats, veggies and nuts and some crackers. It was pretty skimpy considering the price charged . We dove into the appetizer and when completed, Cameron came back and explained menus items, and we all ordered meals. It was fairly well paced for cooking and finally delivered our food. The fried chicken was a bit dry, and was missing the vegetables, having only fried sett potato coins. The salmon was good, the steak filets were cooked to order and tasty and the pasta with brisket bolognese which was very good and huge for one serving and I took home half of it for a left over. Beautiful little gem in historic Greendale! We made a reservation for a Tuesday evening-although the restaurant was mostly empty, most of us were seated in close proximity to each other. We were greeted by our lovely server, our drink orders came out promptly. We were offered the daily amuse bouche-cucumber topped with a salmon salad-tasty & refreshing way to start our meal. We ordered a few things to share-the dill pickle flatbread was good, but in my opinion not "pickley" enough. The beet salad was fresh & light. The pierogies were good, but not the best I've ever had. Really nice upscale, but yet down to earth restaurant. The food is delicious- our table shared all plates and loved everything we ordered. Sliders, bacon wrapped dates, garlic and pickle flatbread- surprisingly delish.,fried cauliflower, brussel sprouts, hush puppies. The sauces served underneath or alongside each item complicated each dish so well. I know we tasted more- but can't remember it all. The drinks are wonderful. The owner has a penchant for tequila- so they are well versed in tequila. Hubby had a tequila old fashioned that was so smooth- he had two.... (And a smile on his face all night). The space is really lovely and quite large but on a Friday night this place sure gets busy, so perhaps have a reservation to be safe? First time here with another couple. One person was having a birthday. We had reservations and were seated right away. They had placed a Happy Birthday placard on the table with a card signed by the staff. Nice touch. The dining area was half filled, noisy, but manageable for a conversation. Our server got to us right away. Was super friendly, and gave us plenty of help with the drink and food menus. We got a few glasses of wine. I had the Bon Bon Martini. All the drinks were good, but the Martini was a bit of a gooey mess (not a huge deal). We ordered a couple appetizers, and the each of us ordered our own entree (not tapas style, this is an important distinction, read on). The two entrees, brussel sprouts, and frites came out in good time, were hot, and well seasoned. The portions were small, and we each got a small taste. The Entrees of Trout, Eleanor (tenderloin), Short Rib Risotto, and Sliders all came out together. They were all wam, with good portions, and well seasoned. However, both the tenderloin, and the sliders were poorly cooked. Tenderloin was undercooked, and the sliders were overcooked. My slides were supposed to be medium rare. If it had just been the two of us, I would have sent them back. Ended up getting dessert, the Eggnog Tiramisu. That was very good. The experience was mixed. The atmosphere is nice, the service was very good. The cooked meats were a big disappointment. Perhaps ordering tapas style, and having plates come individually, as they are finished, would have achieved better results. There are plenty of good restaurants to choose from. I miss the Milk Can but the Eleanor Room is quite the upgrade. It was a Saturday afternoon right after basketball and we decided to stop for lunch, first time for the both of us. We made it just before happy hour started so we were still able to get food from the morning menu. We sat the bar, it was not busy. Our bartender was extremely attentive, professional and friendly. She made sure I was happy with my margarita and that we always had something to drink. My partner got the biscuits and gravy and I got the honey ham and biscuits with potatoes. It was delicious. All the flavors went together perfectly and the portions were just enough. We will for sure be back. read more

I've been here a few times, and based on the history of the place and intention behind the name, I really REALLY want to give it a 5 (even a 6) rather than a 3. The ambiance, service and drinks from the bar were excellent, though when we finally came in for a meal, it seemed like the food quality may not be as up-to-par as the service in general, the bar service and drinks. My friends' entrées arrived perfectly made and warm (lucky them), but my risotto was flat and cold, topped with the warm salmon I order with it--the temperature difference was obvious and it was not enjoyable to eat. I would've rather wished my plate arrived whenever it was actually ready, even if was late, rather than having it arrive along with everyone else's plates and not quite right. Judging from the photos of the charcuterie board that other reviewers here ordered, there doesn't seem to be a standardized portion, and our's looked to be messily put together. For $24, it wasn't anything special, and it certain didn't feel like it was "chef curated". I would've preferred if the kitchen came back to let us know that they're out of this item, along with a recommendation of what they might have available that was fresher. [If you've been to the Pfister's Blu, their appetizer section, "Featured Cheese of the Week" for $16, is awesome, featuring just (1) one type of fresh cheese, (2) one local honey, and (3) crispy thin flatbread to go with it. Not overly complicated, easy to put together, fresh and simple]. We ordered a few desserts, with the turtle cheesecake being the favorite. For me, the crème brûlée would be the end-all and be-all. Here, I think that there should be a contrast between the previously chilled custard with a just-torched sugar crust. There wasn't. It was underwhelming, and the brittle layer was not even. If you're super picky (as I clearly am), even though I think the service here is less pretentious and way better, I'd consider coming back just for the drinks during a happy hour before hopping over to Joey Gerard's. In general, I think the establishment is in the "figuring things out" phase and while I'm just one customer, so who am I to say this, but the extensive menu could use a little tightening. With some apprehension, I'd still be back as I want to see where this place goes. read more

I really want to love the Eleanor Room, it's a great spot, great decor and vibe, and has all the makings of a great place and a memorable experience. That said, the execution has been consistently lacking over the 10+ times I've been there. From inattentive bar service, to poorly executed food (cold, not cooked to order, details missing, out of key ingredients, etc) I'd have a hard time justifying a return visit for the time being. The details matter in a dining experience, I truly hope they are able to address the little things that make all the difference. read more

Upon arrival, they didn't seem to have our reservation correct. Then, we were seated fairly quickly. However, We waited 15 mins at the table and finally we asked someone if we had a server. They checked and came back to say "I'm sorry, I'm your server, but I didn't know I was". We ordered an appetizer and it was delicious. However, we sat with dirty plates for 20 minutes after that until we finally asked for the plates to be removed. When our food was ordered, we ended up sending my meal (chicken and waffles) back bc the chicken was grey. Which means it's spoiled. The waffle Benedict had no flavor which my partner got. Between the awful service and the poor quality of food, we will not be back. The table next to us had the same thing situation- concerns with their food and returned all their food and then left. The manager never bothered to speak to us to apologize for serving us food that will likely make us sick. Very disappointed. read more

The Eleanor Room is elegant. The lighting stages a nice place to have a date. My husband and I came in on Sunday. I'm not sure if it's just because it was Sunday or if this is the norm. We got seated. Had a chance to look over the drink menu and when I ordered I was told they were out of basil. No biggie, I got lavender lemon drop instead. It was good but very sweet. My husband ordered a double jack and coke. And we put in our apps and entrees. After about 20 minutes our drinks were gone, no apps insight but our conversation was good so we weren't too bothered. We ordered another drink and then our apps came. So about 25 minutes after we ordered. We got the rosemary and honeycomb butter board. And the hush puppies. I wish there were more pickled tomatoes with the hush puppies. They were super fried. They were tough to put a fork in. They had nice flavor though. The butter board was miss leading. We were under the impression we were going to get actual chunk of honey comb but instead it just came in the shape of a honeycomb. We packaged up the apps and entrees came and shortly after that our second drink. Someone did come back to ask if we wanted another drink but it was in the works. We got The Eleanor, Oscar style. It was pretty disappointing. Our medium filet came out pretty rare and with little to no seasoning. We couldn't find the Bernaise sauce. And the twice baked potato was a half potatoe with no seasoning and cheese and sour cream on the side. Maybe we caught them on an off night. Bummer as it's close to our house and has an upscale vibe. We still had a good time and we could tell our server was nervous as she had to explain all the last minute menu changes. We get things happen. But we aren't in a rush to come back. read more

We've enjoyed going to the Eleanor Room for the past year. The food is great as well as their craft cocktails. Unfortunately, tonight the service was subpar. Our waitress , Kendall, was great. She wasn't the problem. Something happened in the kitchen and it took an hour for our food to be delivered after our order. An apology was extended and we were told the manager was aware of the issue and nothing was offered for the inconvenience. Very disappointing. First time here after we booked a reservation through Open table. We arrived 20 minutes before our reservation and took a seat at the bar and ordered some drinks. I tried their village Amber ale, which was very good and my wife ordered the Viejo old-fashioned, which is made with tequila. The bar specializes in tequila drinks. The old-fashioned was amazing. I would like to complement our bartender who noticed that we still were not seated after about 20 minutes. He went to the hostess and asked about the status of our table and had somebody immediately get a table for us. So very thoughtful and much appreciated! For our dinner selections, we ordered a few small plates to sample. The French onion soup was very delicious and had a little bit of a tangy taste, which I loved. Our server brought us a sample appetizer of amuse bouche which was also very good. For the small plates, we ordered the hush puppies, fried cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and the sliders. They were all very good. The hush puppies were a little dry, but I think that's the typical taste of hush puppies. The accompanying sauce with it was perfect. Our server was very friendly and brought out our small plates in a timely manner. Overall, we had a very nice experience. My wife and I came for our anniversary a this place did not disappoint. For starters, the service was flawless. Our servers name was Cameron, and he was very good at his job! When we got there we had a little happy anniversary sign and a nice greeting, and a couple glasses of prosecco. Then we ordered and the food was great! Our favorites were the pork belly and beef tartar. Then to cap of the night we had a slice of French silk pie which was out of this world. 10/10 read more

Went here for brunch on Father's Day. Wasn't too busy on the inside, but the patio seemed like they had quite a few people for their amazing live band. The band was great, but when they got to the singer, I didn't enjoy it. I sat at the bar with my husband and his father, who joined us a little bit after we already had ordered our food. Our server was amazing and she made amazing drinks. I ordered wings, while my husband ordered blueberry pancakes. He really enjoyed his meal, but I w was disappointed that I got nearly all drums instead of flats. My father-in-law came in later in order a coffee and the standard breakfast. He seemed to enjoy it and said he liked it better than the place that was there before then, Eleanor room. All in all I think we would return there and maybe order some different stuff off the menu or maybe order the same stuff off the menu, not really sure but we really like to experience and would definitely return. read more

We have been here a handful of times for breakfast because they have good ingredient food. We have always taken our one year old. It is quiet there at 9 am. We had a disappointing experience this time. The eggs were dried out, the fruit cup was like half of the bowl or less and like 5 of the berries were shriveled and not edible. (and it's like $5.99) I asked if we could have a bigger (4 top) table for high chair (need space for the one year old- a two top doesn't work for 3 people total no matter how little the baby) and the host was like "I don't think so, let me check the reservations." And went over to host stand and didn't even look at the tablet for reservations. To add to this, no one came in during the time we were there. We were the only customers on that side of the restaurant. Rubbed me the wrong way, it was rude. read more
