Beautiful restaurant inviting with holiday decorations. The service was excellent. There was a private event on the rooftop so we were seated in the restaurant. Was a little annoyed being seated by the back door and service station. Waiters were right behind us. I was warned it would be pricey but I was prepared to treat myself. Kalbi Style Boneless Short Rib| 32 kimchi fried rice, korean bbq sauce, scallions I ordered the short rib entree and it was prepared very good. The only comment I would have is I tasted very little of Kimchi that was mentioned on the menu. Barbecue sauce was almost nonexistent. Would I go back? I don't think so. But it is definitely worth trying if you like small plates. Love LaGrange, it is one of my favorite little towns to visit. read more

So so so want to like this place but can't get past the waiting ... the third time we went, it was our wedding anniversary, as I listed on our reservation. We were seated on the rooftop. It was not overly crowded. Sat there for over 15 minutes without service. Tried to flag someone down... but there was no one paying attention. Ended up leaving without anyone even noticing. I normally give a restaurant 3 chances to get things right. One thing it has going for is the atmosphere with a beautiful roof deck in summer and spacious for fall/winter dining. The execution is disappointing, from the service to actual food. We ordered a $45 steak medium rare and it came out like a hockey puck. That wasn't the issue, the waiter's inability to fix the issue after consulting with the kitchen is not how to run a business or expect return customers. Best of luck. read more

We had a great lunch here with some family and everything from the food to the atmosphere was great. Food came out on time. We had a variety of apps, entrees and desserts. I had lunch there today and it was my second visit to the rooftop. The service was great and the rooftop provided a wonderful atmosphere. The first time I visited, I was enamored with the quality of the food and today was no different. We started with the Whipped Feta Toast which was a cool play on avocado toast. It was spicy and tasty! Next, we had ONE OF THE BEST APPITIZERS I'VE EVER HAD... If you've been there, you know I'm talking about the Sesame Salmon Wontons! The combo of pickled onions, sriracha aoili, and ginger slaw along with the quality of the salmon creates an unbelievable combination! We both had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with onions, pepper jack cheese, bacon and more.. It's the best chicken sandwich I've ever had! Stop here, you won't be disappointed! #TTFG! We hosted a baby shower here last month and they were incredible! It was our first tile dining here. Service was fantastic, Melyssa (events manager) was super helpful and efficient in sending pictures or listening to our requests. We held the party in their Harris room which is beautifully decorated with lots of natural sunlight and a wall of windows. Food was delicious with good portions. Dessert (chocolate cake was okay) but we had our own cake too. Highly recommend for eating at or for private parties! Street parking available outside or 2 garages next to the restaurant. read more

Atmosphere is really nice- the rich colors and leathers and velvets paired with fun tule are all just gorgeous. The rooftop seating area is good even in the dead of winter because of all the heaters and fire pit seating areas. The food is good. We've had a variety of dishes here and while a little pricey, nothing has been disappointing. The cocktails, however, never seem to hit the mark. After trying several, a couple of times over the course of time, they haven't improved. They just seem a little forced. Luckily, they have an excellent whiskey and tequila list, so grab your favorite spirit and have it unadulterated. Staff- this has been a mixed bag. Bar staff was great this last time. There were several hostesses who were perfectly pleasant, if not outgoing. The wait staff, however, is a mixed bag. They do seem a little overburdened and you might find yourself having to wave them down. Definitely a busy place on a Saturday night. Our waiter most recently was clearly over-busy, but also had some personal hygiene issues that were a little off-putting. Still, the place is overall pretty great, and I'd recommend it. read more

We are in LOVE with this place. We finally went to try it out after a short workday and were not disappointed. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is awesome. The rooftop has a great ambiance! And the restaurant is quite large and able to serve parties and events as well, it appeared. We got the first round of drinks: the Elm Old Fashioned and the Qhound. Both delicious! The Qhound was simple and beautiful with grapefuit soda and Tito's. Very light and refreshing. We then tried out the Whipped Feta Toast, which was not what I expected, but very flavorful and not as heavy as I anticipated. The second round of drinks included Buckledown Cactus Pants which is a nice crisp Kolsch, and a Watermelon Press which was also very fresh and light (watermelon infused ketel one and soda). The entree Asian salad (ordered with salmon) was delicious-- the absolute perfect size for a dinner salad. I would definitely recommend adding protein; any protein will certainly work with this salas. It was extremely satisfying. The seafood pasta was very broth-y, savory, salty, and delicious as well. Have been to The Elm twice. Both times we had reservations and when we arrived the place was empty with only 1 other table with people at it. The hostess on both of these visits looked around as if to see if we could be accommodated. One time asked if we would like to be seated in the bar, the other time she told us she would have to see if they could seat us yet. I repeat that the place was empty and we had reservations! I don't know if they are trained with that as a standard line to appear exclusive but, in addition to it being ridiculous, it was also incredibly rude. The food was good for dinner but we did not care for lunch as much. Service once seated was fine. After these 2 visits The Elm did not live up to the hype. Hope you have a better experience than us. read more

We had our wedding there this Saturday, and Melyssa and her team, including Justin, went above and beyond for us. Melyssa was an integral part of our wedding being successful, and was phenomenal the day of. She handled very tough situations that occurred, and as the bride I did not learn about the extent of her help and dedication until members of our wedding part told us. The venue is absolutely beautiful, and the team works to make it work best for you. They are flexible and accommodating. The food is to die for, and our photographer who is out of state has already planned another trip there for the salmon. The portions were large, and delicious. (For reference, we had beef, salmon and chicken.) We had the Madison room and the bar, and it was perfect for the 50 of us. Melyssa is a dream, and will work tirelessly to ensure your event runs smoothly and as you planned it. I can't thank her enough for her dedication to our wedding. read more

The drink menu also needs to be expanded as there were only a few signature cocktails to chose from. More accurately, 3.5 stars. Nothing out of the ordinary but good fare. Service was attentive. We couldn't decide if we wanted to sit inside or on the rooftop, so we were a pain ha ha. The chicken Cesar salad was good, dressing very good. The company I was with had a fish sandwich and a burger, no complaints on either and favorable reviews for both. This place is nice inside, and outside the rooftop can be enjoyed, there is a roof with fans, or if you prefer no roof, they have tables in the open as well. A couple of big TV's complete the rooftop. It's a good pick for a night out, to catch a game or for a nice lunch/brunch with your fam/crew. read more

Walking into The Elm, I wanted to give then four stars. Instead I am struggling to give them three. The Elm has been anticipated for about a year, since the remains of The Magic Wok disappeared. Watching it be constructed and the interior finished, I thought of "The Smith" in New York. We had a reservation for two on the rooftop. We were seated at a corner of the bar. It was kind of a weird place to be seated when there were plenty of tables available throughout our meal. We were also in the pathway to the kitchen, with high traffic of food and drink passing us. We were rapidly waited on for drinks, each of us having one of The Elm's signature cocktails, The drinks were served fairly quickly and we ordered two appetizers to split, which also arrived in appropriate time. Then things started to break down. We finished our drinks, and the water provided. Several wait staff mingled around the bar, none taking care to offer more drinks or to fill water. Our waiter (or bartender) had disappeared. Eventually the waiter/bartender reappeared, offered more drinks and to take a main course order - we split a chicken sandwich and a vegetarian chili. Then we waited. And waited. Then the same waiter/bartender took our order again, "just to check". That was weird. A table behind us ordered after us, received food, ate, and had their bill before we received our food. The chicken sandwich was good, when it arrived. We both said we would get it again. The bun was fresh, the chicken breast thin, cooked almost perfect and with a tasty aioli. We had fries with the sandwich, nicely seasoned. The vegetarian chili... tasty, vegetables were good and there was plenty of cumin. We both agreed that chili may be more appropriate for October than late June. We passed on dessert, but would try another time. The food and drinks we had were appropriate value for the price. The Elm, promising, but they have more than a few customer service kinks to work out. We will try them again. read more

Lovely place no doubt. Stopped in on a lovely Friday evening on a whim to have a cocktail at their upstairs outdoor bar but alas turned away due to it being full and a 45m wait. Very Young host and hostess greeted us. Cute, actually. We came back about an hour later and they balked, and went to check only to come back and advise no room. In the interim a young man came in and asked if there was room at the upstairs bar and was told no. He went on to say he was meeting friends and was supposed to meet them there to which he was promptly granted access. Suspicious--An old college trick right before our eyes. My wife and I chuckled, turned and left and had a lovely drink at Mario's Kitchen instead where it was nice to be treated as adults. We'll give the Elm another chance, though. read more

The Elm is a fantastic establishment I highly recommend everyone to try. They do an excellent job in maintaining all COVID guidelines, making the dining experience feel very safe. The staff is very nice and attentive. The food is all phenomenal. I was very impressed with each dish I have tried so far. The crab cakes were amazing, very meaty, and the salsa paired very nicely with the dish. Me and my boyfriend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and the elm cheddar burger, both of which are DELCIOUS. We could not stop talking about how good that darn burger was. The fries were also crisped to perfection. We have gone back multiple times and got the same order. Can't wait to branch out and try other things on the menu! read more

This is a new, huge, car friendly, elegant restaurant ideal for the local regulars and worthy of being a destination for those living further away. I would posit this is the largest restaurant in downtown La Grange. It has the appearance of a private club from the outside and the social club ambience on the inside. That said it is a very welcoming establishment that coddles patrons like long time customers. NEW: The Elm has that new place atmosphere. I don't mean paint and construction material odors. I am thinking fresh cut wood. HUGE: Two floors. Bar and dining on the first floor. Outdoor patio and dining room on second floor. An elevator is available. CAR FRIENDLY: Two free parking lots, one across the street and other along the west side of the building. ELEGANT: the Elm eschews the eclectic for consistency. Easy on the eyes. Designed with a singular vision. No surprises. More like visiting good friends who find elegance in traditional materials. The first rule of elegance being comfort for both the eyes and posterior is strictly followed. The building is large but the seating is intimate with no essence of banquet hall. I am here with my mother and brother. Our attitude on entry is one of hoping for the best because anything that presents itself so well should not suffer in the food department. Our server, Nick, was totally on point and a great sense of humor to boot. I had tempura shrimp and chopped salad for my meal. Both were presented in a manner showing pride in the creation. I easily devoured both along with an ice cold lemonade for my beverage. For my ending I had chocolate flourless cake with a peanut butter mousse. Think Reese's Peanut Butter cup on steroids. The chef made me a small batch of whip cream on the side that really made my day. I took a bourbon cake home to go. Oh my, ambrosia. Nick was attentive from beginning to end and I will definitely ask for him on subsequent visits. La Grange now has three vibes. We came on a Sunday for an early evening dinner and sat on the rooftop. It was not overly busy, but we did make an online reservation. Our service was good overall.
