I've had this spot on my list for a long time, ever since hearing about it in a Simon Majumdar podcast (we're talking years ago). This beautiful bar is located in the swanky Hotel Peter and Paul hotel, located in the Marigny neighborhood. It's also attached to an equally stunning restaurant that's perfect for blog or instagram photos. Our bartender offered great conversation and gave good recommendations and descriptions of the various cocktails. I had the Sonnet to my Wife, made with mezcal, St. Germaine, aperol, and lemon. Tart and mildly smoky. I also had the Adding machine, made with tequila, guava, velvet falernum, pomegranate, and lime. A little sweet, a little spicy with a complex flavor profile. I enjoyed both drinks. If not for my husband, I would have stayed for at least a few hours trying the whole menu. So many beautiful cocktails to choose from. They have beer and wine as well, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice. You can get those anywhere. They also have breakfast with eggs, sausage, omelettes, pancakes. Dinner with savory little numbers like smoked bone marrow and braised short ribs with smoked gouda polenta. Salads, grilled quid, pork chops, scallops, various veggies (crispy brussels sprouts, caramelized leeks, charrted broccolini, roasted mushrooms). We were really looking forward to this place. It was my husband's birthday and we drove in from Austin to stay at Peter and Paul and of course heard that the restaurant was excellent. Off the bat, I want to say that the hotel is so wonderful and we will be back! The restaurant, not so much. I hate leaving bad reviews and almost never do, but the food wasn't very good and I feel like there's so much incredible food in New Orleans that it's a terrible shame to spend one of our two nights dining here, particularly for a birthday. The peach and burrata salad didn't have much flavor. The dish could benefit from either a drizzle of balsamic, maybe honey, or at least some fresh basil. It wasn't balanced, just creamy with no acid or salt. The ceviche was surprisingly also not very flavorful. Once again a notable lack of acid. The shrimp was on the fishy side, and it was served with plantain chips that were not large enough to be used as scoops, though ostensibly they were the vehicle for the ceviche. We fumbled with trying to get the ceviche on the chips until eventually giving up and just using a fork. We ordered the littleneck clams and added on the rolls so we could mop up the sauce. When the dish arrived, it came with three rolls, and then two minutes later our server brought the rolls we ordered--totally neglecting to mention that it already came with rolls. We had a silly amount of rolls on a small table that we did not end up eating, and on top of all this, the rolls were very dry and not fresh. They were toasted, but you could tell they hadn't been very fresh to begin with. Our final dish was the snapper, but unfortunately our server forgot to put that order in. She was very nice, but I sensed maybe not that experienced. She put the order in when we were done with everything else, and we realized that it was going to be a while. At this point we honestly just wanted to get out of there. So, I told her to not worry about it after all and that we didn't need the snapper. I communicated this immediately after learning that the order hadn't been put in when we ordered it. We waited around a long time for her return, hoping to request the check when a man emerged from the kitchen and came up to our table. He asked us if we wanted the snapper or not in a very irritated and gruff tone, he was not happy. I told him we did not, and mentioned that our server neglected to put the order in, and he walked off. I did not appreciate him aggressively marching out to confront us in front of the whole dining room like that, it was weird and unprofessional. He ended up coming back and expressing that there was a miscommunication, but it was inappropriate for him to be confrontational in the first place and if he required clarification, it's the server's job to be the liaison. In spite of the gorgeous, romantic atmosphere, our experience here was just very weird and stilted. It made me sad that my husband had to have such a strange birthday. Elysian was on our list of places to try since we're within walking distance. It took a few tries to get in through RESY, but overall, I would revisit again and maybe try breakfast. Dinner was good, but probably would have been great had the service been better. (The manager and the server apologized, and if we had more time were willing to comp a meal if we could revisit. Unfortunately, we were leaving the next day, so they did the next best thing: they comped almost half of our bill. WELL DONE!) The restaurant is very inviting with parlors and an atrium. The tables are spaced well apart for noise and a possible romantic dinner/Breakfast. :-) Once seated, the server was working very hard but found us. (They may have been short since the jazz festival was in town) She took our drink orders, which arrived quickly. She explained the menu and let us think about our choice. The drinks were Flaura and Fauna, and Ballad Inventory. Both were unique and tasty. When our server returned, we ordered all of our items. We ordered Chicken under a brick and Braised Short Ribs for entrees. We ordered Roasted Mushrooms, Charred Broccoli, and Dinner Rolls. The Kitchen fell short in timing as rolls arrived at the end of our meal, and a few dishes were lukewarm at best. When refired, they were very good. ( See above) The meal itself and the surroundings were good. At the end of our meal, the manager and the server came over and apologized and told us they would be talking to the team. When the bill arrived, the manager had comped more than half of our total bill *( drinks, bread, mushrooms... $ 168 to $85). Came here for a family brunch, and found the food to be really good (I REALLY reccomend getting the egg + tomato dish), but the service a bit disorganized. Our order was forgotten multiple times and dishes late to come out. They did however, comp the late items, so I suspect that this is not typical for them. The property is quite beautiful - we sat outside in the courtyard, but would actually recommend sitting inside, as the place is decorated beautifully. read more

Visited The Elysian bar that is a part of the Peter and Paul hotel. I wanted to sit at the bar but unfortunately there were no seats and we were sat at a table. Came by during happy hour, which had a good list of drinks and bites. The restaurant area is cute, warm and with a nice decor. Staff were friendly. We ordered two of the Hibiscus 75 with gin. Drinks were tart and refreshing. Ordered the house made focaccia with honey butter. The bread was really hard and not very fresh, but the honey butter was pretty. Also ordered the Fried Brussels off the dinner menu. The Parmesan aioli on the Brussels was tasty and gave it a nice creamy flavor. The music inside the restaurant was like elevator music so maybe would spice that up with different music. I walked to the bathroom and saw the main bar, which definitely was a cool and fun vibe. This place has such an amazing vibe! We went for lunch but I am sure dinner will be totally popping! Parking is a bit of a challenge - as it's street parking. The best shrimp and grits in New Orleans! The crab Benedict and friend chicken was super yummy too. My cousin and I pulled up to The Elysian Bar, which is an extension of the Peter & Paul Hotel. I believe they host two monthly installments, and this night featured DJ Jess, one of my absolute faves in the city! I'd never been before, and when we arrived, there was even a brass band practicing next door, which felt so New Orleans. Walking in, we were greeted right away. The place is stunning, atriums, old parlor rooms, nooks, and cozy corners everywhere. Think old-school New Orleans mansion turned stylish bar. It feels like you stepped into a period film, but with better cocktails. And when the sunlight hits the bar, the wood literally glows, it's so gorgeous. Since I wanted to sit close to the music, we were placed outside in their courtyard under the cutest mustard yellow umbrellas. Now let's get into the food & drinks: * Housemade Focaccia Bread with Honey Butter - 20/10. The STAR. Warm, fluffy, buttery perfection. I would honestly come back just for this. * Mai Tai - 10/10. This drink humbled me fast lol. Probably the best Mai Tai I've ever had. Smooth and balanced, but it does not play. * Smoked Trout - 7/10. It came with mushrooms, mushroom cracker, and was supposed to include smoked oyster dressing. After the fact, I don't think mine had the dressing (I even went looking for pics online to check), so it felt like something was missing. It was still good, but could've used more salt or herbs to round it out. Also, Tuesdays are Oyster Club nights from 5-10pm! If you're an oyster lover, this is your time to shine. The Elysian Bar was honestly pretty mid overall. The vibe, though especially outside was definitely vibing. Cocktails were solid (really good, actually), but the food left a lot to be desired. Service was fine, nothing to complain about but nothing memorable either. The biggest downside honestly were the portions. They were tiny for the prices being charged, which made the food feel even less worth it. The mussels were cooked well, but the sauce didn't have enough seasoning. While staying at hotel Peter & Paul, I decided to pop into Elysian Bar for the second time. Last year, while staying in the same hotel, I invited a friend to come by to enjoy their happy hour. While we enjoyed their octopus dish, everything else, was well...enhanced by the atmosphere. Because the atmosphere is so inspiring, this year, I gave them a second try. This time, for breakfast. I'm so glad I can confidently say, their breakfast menu, although limited, is a winner. My coffee was prepared properly, and our selections kept us going past lunch. Although our tummies were as satisfied as our eyes by the end of the meal, it was hard to ignore the speed of service. Without a doubt, this was the slowest service we received during our entire trip. Considering we ordered the labneh (basically a parfait), and a fruit bowl, not only was the slow service noticeable, but pretty unacceptable. This place was beautiful, really cool to look around. We came for dinner and the outside courtyard would have been really pretty, but it was a little chilly. We asked about having a heat lamp turned on (they had a whole row of them lined up in the courtyard), but the waitress said they usually don't when it was the temperature it was outside. They luckily were able to move us inside and were super accommodating about that so that was nice. However, the next two groups that went outside had heat lamps on when I walked by a little later so that just seemed weird. We ordered a soup, but it was out of season so the waitress explained about the option that was in season. A little later she came back and said they didn't have that either and offered us a different soup of the day . It was the pho style soup pictured below and was amazing, I'm still dreaming about it. However, I just found it odd that the staff wasn't more aware of the soup of the day before dinner service, especially at a pricier restaurant. We also ordered the bread , it was pretty hard so that was disappointing, but the butter was amazing. It was bummer because two different groups next to us ordered it and theirs looked way better. When a manager walked by we did mention it and she took it off our bill so that was really nice. We had the escargot, which ended up being cooked into the pot pie (pictured below), it was really different, but tasted great. Lastly, we ordered a fish, but it never came out so that got taken off our bill too. We would definitely go back and give it another shot, we did like most of the food. The atmosphere was cool. This restaurant is beautiful. I ate here for my birthday dinner and they sat us in the Atrium. It looked like somewhere Louis & Lestat from Interview with a Vampire would pretend to eat. Great for photo ops. The food was just okay which was disappointing because this was the restaurant I was most looking forward to eating at on the trip. The main flavors were butter and salt particularly on the braised short rib and the whole branzino. Not much depth of flavor. They gave us the flat part of the squid when we were hoping for legs. The service was very polite but we felt a bit abandoned by the end. I guess the server was overwhelmed by the dinner rush so I didn't get a birthday dessert or a chance to ask questions about the dessert menu. All in all, I'd probably come back for brunch. The Elysian Bar in the Marigny for brunch was 100/10. The food was delicious, the ambiance gave nostalgic New Orleans; beautiful shotgun inside & out. The staff were amazing, from our waitress to everyone we interacted with. I had shrimp & grits with Gulf Coast shrimp, juicy & plump, paired perfectly with the grits & a tasty sauce. We also had focaccia with honey butter. My daughter had the Elysian breakfast with bacon extremely out of this world. Let's talk about the fried potatoes with dill; I'm sure they fried it in duck fat or something because the flavors were divine. I had a Pink Panther cocktail (gin), my daughter had a matcha with oat milk, & I also had a gin-lime cocktail (can't remember the name, but it was soooo refreshing. This place is also a beautiful B&B, tied to Hotel Peter& Paul with 70+ rooms on the block of Burgundy St. There are multiple dining areas inside The Elysian Bar. This is my second time dining at the Elysian Bar! Food: Excellent. I had the braised short ribs & smoked gouda polenta. The dish was delicious. The ribs were tender - I only needed a fork. The smoked gouda polenta had great flavor and I loved the crunch at the top. I would definitely order it again. I really wanted to have the scallops, but they were sold out. Drinks: Fantastic - I had a Sazerac and "I Can Deceive them Both" - loved the sazarac. I wasn't fond of the cucumber in the other drink, but that's just me. Dessert: The only reason why I brought the review to 4 out of 5 stars. The dessert menu was weak. There were only 2 options. I order the strawberry trifle which was way too sweet! Staff: Accommodating. I was eating solo and they were friendly! (The barista in the morning was a bit gruff - but the hostess in the dining room was fabulous!) My partner and I went here for some casual drinks on a weeknight and it was not busy at all. The bartender was very friendly and open to us being visitors in NOLA. The cocktails were pretty good and the venue itself is gorgeous. If I remember correctly, the building used to be a church that's now converted into a hotel. The star of the evening was the branzino - a bit oily but if you don't mind that, it was delectable: garlicky, lemony, and the skin was crispy. Elysian Bar has been our favorite meal to date this trip to NOLA. The restaurant has an adorable ambiance and we sat in the parlor room, which was beautiful. Service was great by Ryan. Our favorite dishes in this order were -Poached Shrimp -Chicken Under a Brick -Little Gem Salad -Gnocchi -Fresh Fettuccine -Focaccia The focaccia was the least favorite - it was dry, and the fettuccine didn't have very much crab. The only downside was that the apps and mains arrived almost at the same time; a bit more spacing would've been nice. Where I usually expect a bar to be more about the drinks with just some shareable plates, I was very pleasantly surprised by Elysian Bar's substantial dinner menu alongside there expansive list of crafty cocktails. We tried the moules frites, seared scallops, braised short ribs, and broccolini. The only issue I had was that the broccolini was a little too charred. The atmosphere was inviting with lots of different nooks to diversify the experience, with a more colorful dining room, a romantic courtyard, and a dimly lit bar. Polly and Tim are some of the best bartenders out there! This place not only has the looks (well, of course it's beautiful) and the drinks, but the food is DELICIOUS! We ended up ordering the Elysian pancakes which were so hard you had to use a knife to cut them.. one person in our party went to the restroom and upon leaving overheard the kitchen staff talking about our party being difficult and "not their favorite" people to serve. I wiped the dish clean so be sure to get this. Travis saw me eyeing the bar and helped me to get a seat, which is where I ended the night with Andres, who had other great beverage selections. We returned as we wanted our sister in law to see the hotel and bar for when she returns with her husband. We had dinner and it was very good and the wine list had improved. We ordered the Mendocino Cab and it was a good choice. Too hot to sit out in the gorgeous courtyard so ate in the Atrium overlooking it. Small space there but the ambiance was good though the space can get a bit loud as tables are close together. Service was excellent and the pricing was reasonable. The beef tartare was good but the mains and dessert were excellent. Fish of the day and Tri Tip highly recommended; the latter might be the best Tri Tip we've ever had. We made reservations for a Saturday night in the Atrium before going to a show at the Marigny Theater. The restaurant, bar, and atrium are very beautiful and the lighting gives it a romantic vibe. Our food was delivered quickly and was delicious. We got a tuna crudo to start and the sauce below the tuna was fabulous! I got the chicken under a brick which had a great crunchy skin. The salad like part of the dish was okay but I could have done without it. My SO got the gulf fish and his whole dish was delicious. Our friend got small plates: the gnocchi, focaccia, and olives. The gnocchi was definitely a highlight and the olives came warmed which was nice. Our only issue was with the service from the bar. We were seated quickly and ordered 2 glasses of wine and a cocktail. It took them about 15-20 minutes for them to realize they didn't have the ingredients for the cocktail and another 15 minutes before the replacement cocktail was delivered. Then we made a mistake and ordered another round of cocktails thinking we had enough time to drink them before heading to the show. 20 minutes quickly passed and we had to find our waiter to have the 2 old fashioneds we ordered be poured into go cups. It's been a while since I've been somewhere that takes forever to make a simple old fashioned. Definitely go for the food and the drinks if you don't have plans afterwards. read more

We started with the focaccia that is supposed to come with whipped honey butter. It was with a small dish of olive oil instead. We had to wait until our server walked past again and ask about the butter. She went to go get it, and came back and said that more was being made. We didn't see her or get the butter from her. Our entree's arrived and we asked again about the butter. The server (maybe a manager?) apologized and said she would bring out a new bread (since this one got cold) and the butter. It came out within 3 minutes and was very good. My husband got the pork entree and said it was delicious. I got the chicken under a brick and am so glad I did! It was delicious.
