We had brunch here on our last day before departing for home; it was pouring rain and so we needed to find somewhere close that had tables available on a Saturday morning. . Fortunately, Curio Bistro was right around the corner from our hotel. We ate inside rather than upstairs on the balcony which sounds lovely, but not in the chilly rain. I had the french toast with caramel sauce, eggs and bacon along with coffee. The french toast and caramel sauce was delicious and a great dessert for breakfast dish. So the best part of this place is the building, we got to sit on the balcony which has an amazing view. Everything else was pretty much sub par. The service was super slow, she got our order wrong and gave us individual glasses of wine instead of the bottle we ordered. Came here for Sunday brunch. I ordered the 3 sampler: gumbo, jambalaya and crawfish etouffee for $21. It was a bit salty but really really tasty. The etoufee was my favorite. Dined there last night with a colleague and a business partner and it was just OK. It was 6:30pm and we could not reservations anywhere nearby with exception of Curio's. I know, warning bells, right? We stood at the hostess stand with no customers in sight with exception of two people at the bar. We were ignored by the three workers until we finally approached them, apologized for interrupting their conversation and mentioned our reservation. The French Quarter is essentially a bunch of really old buildings and that is where Curio's is located. Curio's is dated inside as well as outside and could use some updating overall and better cleaning in the high traffic areas. Service was not good. If you wanted something, you had to flag down the waitress. We ordered alligator bites as a starter and after ten minutes or so, we asked for drink refills and the waitress commented on the alligator bites being delayed - no kidding. In another ten minutes, they arrived and to my surprise were pretty good and looked fresh. Maybe that is why they took so long, waiting for the alligator to hatch from the egg. We ordered our entrees and they came out within ten minutes, which is fine. We ordered red fish, gumbo and a southern pork chop. Everything was just OK. Would I return, no thank you. read more

I ordered the crab claws and a virgin hurricane. The crab claws were just okay. They were a bit small and toward the end they didn't seem as fresh as I was hoping for. The drink was fine, but the fruit garnish looked dried out, like it had been sitting for a while. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but it didn't really stand out. Po'boy was good, but if you mess up shrimp lettuce, tomato and bread you should be shut down. Husband's burger was well done when he asked for medium rare. Guys, this was a bubba burger quality patty, don't offer a temperature and over cook it for $21. The $16 old fashioned had a freaking maraschino cherry. Do not charge me more than $10 for an OF and give me a crap cherry and no choice of bourbon. I would be willing to bet I would a have had to pay an up charge for non well bourbon. This place delivered the goods after we were so infuriated with another restaurant that closed for the evening. We found Curio and was welcomed by a charming receptionist, brought us upstairs where it was cool and refreshing (oh airconditioner during the summer heat!). My boyfriend had a Cajun BBQ Burger and he found it really juicy and delicious. I had one of the best Jambalayas ever. Cute bistro on the corner- there is an upstairs and downstairs. They had the best jambalaya I've had during my trip and really good cocktails! Happy hour is on weekdays from 3:30-5:30pm, so pretty early. A lot of the food we wanted was out (fried green tomatoes and fried alligator). The crab claws appetizers were alright, and we enjoyed the grit tots (7 pieces with a hot sauce on the side). I like they offer a three or four dish sample for the taste of New Orleans sampler. We got seated upstairs and were the only ones inside which made conversation very easy. Our waiter Elsa was amazing! She was very attentive but also gave us enough space to enjoy and interact. She had phenomenal suggestions as well! My wife and I had a blackened red fish but it came on the menu with honey sautéed spinach. We asked about it and she said it was a bit sweet but we could trade out that for sautéed veggies instead which was PERFECT! The food was outstanding! Amazing service! I came here on Sunday and we ordered bottomless mimosas along with our food. My partner forgot his wallet at the hotel, but our server, Wendy, was incredibly kind and understanding. She let us know she would keep our food warm under the heated lamp until he came back, which I really appreciated. Throughout our visit, she continually checked on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and kept our drinks topped off. The service was truly exceptional. I visited curio on a Sunday for brunch with my girls. I was about 10 min behind for my reservation but they seated my friend. I like that they don't have the "whole party" rule that many restaurants enforce. We were seated on the balcony overlooking Royal St. and the weather was perfect. Our server was kind and friendly and really made sure we had everything we wanted from beginning to end. We ordered a bunch of different things, starting with the fried green tomatoes. I had the crab cake Benedict with a side of bacon and cheddar jalapeño grits and my friend had the fried shrimp omelette and my other friend had the French toast. We all came to a consensus that the food was decent but not amazing. The servings were huge but the preparation and flavors were not 100% satisfying. We came here for late lunch on a week day and it was easy to get a table and seated quickly. Our waitress was very friendly and prompt. We ordered a few cocktails, an app, and a few mains to share. My friend had the royal old fashioned and I ordered the jackelope, both of which were delicious. Our appetizer was a spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips, which we all enjoyed. For our mains, I had the shrimp and grits (amazing, possibly the best I've had in NOLA), one friend had the trio (came with 3 small plates of typical creole food), and another had an alligator po-boy. We all really enjoyed our meals. They also have a kids menu (it's verbal, so you have to ask) and were willing to grill the item ordered instead of frying it, so we were pleased with that. The ambiance on the first floor was really cute and reminded us of retro French Quarter elegance. We were seated on the second floor which, unfortunately, didn't have the same vibe. They do have a patio on the second floor that overlooks the streets, which I'm sure is great, but we were seated in a dining room. The space itself is fine, it just needs some organizing/cleaning to maintain that elegant feel (for example, I could see bussing trays in the corner and dirty dishes stacked up). Fried Green Tomato Chips & blackened Gulf Shrimp was next with a nice remoulade.. great flavor. For my main course, I ordered a Crispy Chicken Blt. WOW! Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Tenders, Applewood Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayhaw Pepper Jelly, Cilantro-Lime Mayo, Sourdough Toast..... I rarely can't finish my meal, but the chicken was a very generous portion, great bacon..... I only ate half. The jelly and mayo added to the flavor. Kind of a honey flavor. My wife chose this establishment, not a far walk from Royal Sonesta hotel. Upon my Yelp check-in got coupon for free appetizer w order of entree which was honored by the staff. We chose blue crab claws pictured below. My entree was shrimp Po Boy, and it was heartily stacked w shrimp on fresh bread. The potato salad was mayonnaise based generic tasting. One thing I noticed in my short time in New Orleans, all the restaurants take a long time for food to come out after ordering.
