Visiting NOLA for a few days and found this place on Google Maps. I'm glad I stopped by on a Tuesday evening at around 5pm. I got seated at the bar right away and got the happy hour menu 4:30pm-6pm as well as the main menu. I had to go with the double cut Cheshire pork chop and got a glass of happy hour Malbec wine. My bartender Jason was helpful with recommendations and letting me know specials of the day, he was very friendly and fun to talk to! Food came and I was amazed at the size of my pork chop, it was massive about the size of my hand and thick cut. First cut into it was flavourful from the caramelized crust and the juicy well cooked centre. The green bean creole glaze that came with it was paired perfectly to create a balanced dish! I was also lucky enough to get to try the deep fried oyster and it was delicious! Highly recommend this spot, take your chance with walk ins as they get busy later in the evening. read more

I am really torn on this review but I call em like I experienced them, so: In my opinion: +* server, +**** dishes, (minus) -** on timing/execution = my *** rating. * +our server was really good - Jimmy was pleasant, funny, good menu descriptions. **** +food was amazing - chef Ricky and team really prepared amazing dishes with plenty of flavor, the right amount of spice/sweet/savory for each dish. +filet med rare was a great cut and cooked perfect, + the pork chop with a slight sweet glaze tasted amazing + each side and app (oysters on pasta mmm) was unique and flavorful. So timing - not to go down a rabbit hole but arrived at 5:40 for 5:45 reservations, first to be seated in a then empty restaurant, ordered apps and dinner at 6, - apps arrived 7:30 and dinner about 8:15. There is something going on for that to happen as others around us were served more promptly. Be forewarned as other reviews noted the same. They removed some of the drinks as an apology but the timing became the talk of the table during and after. It had been a while since my last trip to New Orleans, so I spent Super Bowl weekend back in town enjoying some gambling and early Mardi Gras celebrations. My original plan was dinner at La Boca Steakhouse, one of my longtime go-to spots, but a same-day call about kitchen equipment issues forced them to cancel reservations for the evening. With plans suddenly open, we pivoted and decided to try Restaurant Rebirth -- a fitting name considering the change of plans and my familiarity with the space from its previous restaurant days. The menu is fairly focused, leaning toward farm-to-table Cajun-Creole dishes. Dinner started with cornbread served with honey, and honestly, it was incredible. I could have happily made a meal out of that alone (regret not asking for seconds). I began with a blueberry martini that was a little too sweet for my taste, then switched to an Abita Amber, which paired much better with the food. For appetizers we ordered the BBQ pork belly, shrimp and eggplant, and the oyster angel hair pasta -- all very good, with the pork belly being the standout. Entrées included a beautifully presented whole blackened redfish that tasted as good as it looked, a 20-oz boneless ribeye cooked to a perfect medium rare with crawfish tasso maque choux, and a double-cut pork chop. The steak had great flavor but was surprisingly a bit tough, the only real disappointment of the night. The pork chop, however, completely stole the show -- perfectly cooked, tender, and one of the best I've had. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and the space remains dark, warm, and inviting -- a vibe I've always liked in this location. Overall: a very enjoyable meal and a great backup plan when our original reservation fell through. The greens it rests on is delish and even their gumbo, which is served in a cute little cast iron cauldron is rich and flavorful in the best way possible. My husband said it was the best Pork Belly he ever had. We went for my husband's birthday and our anniversary. We unfortunately wasn't that hungry and it was later than we normally have dinner but since it was a special occasion we wanted to try an upscale restaurant that wasn't in the French Quarter. We opted for only appetizers. We had a very small cast iron little bowl of gumbo, it was full of flavor and very good! I would definitely have a full bowl to myself if we should ever go to NOLA again. We had the pork belly and my husband loved it he said it was the BEST. We had the greens that were good but a little too sweet for my taste. They gave my husband bread pudding for his birthday but he isn't a fan of bread pudding so he didn't like it but I did. The service was slower than I thought it should be for deserts, but our waiter was very attentive so we didn't mind it much. Unfortunately I am bad with names, but one of the owners also was very attentive. I definitely recommend the restaurant if you want good food, an upscale experience away from the French Quarter. The Ambiance was romantic it's a small restaurant. It was very nice that when we walked in they said our names like they were waiting for us. I have a new favorite restaurant. This place is phenomenal. We went last night to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was not disappointing. We started with the fried oysters appetizer and the pork belly appetizer and both were amazing. The pork belly appetizer could have been a little spicier, but it was delicious. We then shared a serving of the gumbo. We split a 22 oz. ribeye for the entree. It was one of the most delicious steaks i have eaten in my life. Possibly the BEST restaurant that I've eaten at in New Orleans! We made reservations for the bar (nothing else was available) for our first night in town and ended up going back on our last night, as well as recommending it to others. The place is small, so if you plan to go, make a reservation. We had a wonderful meal both at the bar and at the table, and the service was great at both. They are not a steakhouse, but they do a mean steak and it comes sizzling on a hot iron plate. The pork belly is a must get as well as the gumbo which comes piping hot. The fried oysters were also spectacular and I usually don't like cooked oysters. There was some menu items I liked better than others, but everything was so tasty. Easily my favorite meal in New Orleans. After several days of very heavily fried foods and way too many douche bars in the French Quarter, Rebirth was such a welcome experience. The pork belly was a standout. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. It would be a must order again. I was still thinking about it the next day. The country gumbo was my third third time ordering it in different restaurants in NOLA and was by far the best of the three. The bigger issue, however, was that it was served on a hot skillet, which continued to cook the steak beyond the resting point. The restaurant itself is very small bit has a charming feel. The service was very good. Cornbread - 5/5: I'm not a huge cornbread fan (normally tends to be dry), bit thus was delicious. One of the best cornbread ever. Fried Oyster - 4/5: great flavor, just a bit salty. Gumbo - 5/5: Wow! The best gumbo I've ever had. Ribeye - 5/5: even though they're not a "steakhouse," this was fantastic. Perfectly cooked in an iron skillet and comes slathered in melted butter. One of the most tender ribeyes I've ever had. We ordered the extra mushroom/onion topping. While I thought the topping eaten separately was delicious, the onions were too sweet to eat together with the steak. Crawfish & Tasso Maque Choux - 4/5: think of this as a creamed corn, cajun style. While the dish was good, I wouldn't order this again if one orders the gumbo as a starter as shares a bit of the same flavor profile. One word of advice. The menu is pretty limited so would recommend going to the website and looking at the menu beforehand to make sure there is something that would appease everyone in your party. I had the absolute pleasure of going back to Rebirth and I honestly didn't think it could live up to my memory of how amazing it was. But it did. The pork belly appetizer is hands down one of the best dishes I've ever had. I tried the angel hair pasta with oysters which was also great. And the white chocolate bread pudding was, again, outstanding and that's coming from someone who doesn't usually even like bread pudding. Came here while i was visiting the city and it was a good experience The food here was solid. I had the filet mignon and it was about as good as you'd expect- nothing exceptional but it definitely hit the spot. Everything was just wow. Visiting for a convention over Halloween week. I ate at the bar. Nice great low key ambience. Beautifully appointed. I have Lived in SF, LA and chicago.. I have also traveled extensively. I will say that both the food and service is one of the best that I've had. I had a small cup of the gumbo and it was amazing! Perfect serving for one person and comes in a nice little serving container. The pork chop was a 20 out of 10! My server/bar tender was Jen and was the embodiment of southern hospitality. Where to start: 1) Ambiance 5 stars 2) Service 5 stars 3) Food and drinks 5 stars To start I ordered my favorite drink a Sazerac and it was perfect..it had a great Herbersaint, bitters and whiskey. I highly recommend if you're a whiskey drinker. We decided to share different dishes so we started with the oysters and angel.. let just say it was super tasty. The oysters were breaded and tasted so good. They were perfectly paired with the angel hair, mushrooms and bottarga gremolata. You HAVE to try it! Our second appetizer was my favorite!! It was the Mississippi style barbecue pork belly. Let me tell you about this savory dish. The pork belly was so tender and literally melted in your mouth. The collard greens were equally tasty along with the fried okra. You can't go wrong with this dish! Our third and final dish was the shrimp and eggplant. I didn't know what to think of it at first because eggplant is not really a vegetable I enjoy.. but you know what? Chef Ricky did it right. The pairing of eggplant and jumbo shrimp just worked! The creole tomato base along with the Cajun pine nuts balanced the whole dish very well. Almost forgot to mention the fried okra with the remoulded.. do not skip this side it is truly DELISH. If that wasn't enough we also had to have dessert. The coffee crème brûlée with mini beignets and the bread pudding were a perfect way to end our dinner. Our server Riley was amazing!! He made great suggestions and everything was really good. My wife and I have been wanting to try Rebirth for a while, but wanted to save it for a special occasion. My brother in law and his wife came in from Texas to celebrate out anniversary/wife's birthday. We had 7:30 reservations and were sat immediately followed by a 10 min greet from the server and 15 mins for our first round of drinks. The restaurant is small with 15 tables and no big tops. The server asked us to order everything at one time so the chef could space out our food. I have maintained a salary position in the service industry for almost 3 decades in the New Orleans area and I know this is a desperation move in the kitchen because servers are responsible for the timing of customers food. We should have left then but it was a special occasion. They served the table flat diet Coke. When we asked the server for another one he told us that the gun was broken and the flat diet Coke was the last one out of a 2 liter bottle. Seriously! An hour later, we received the one appetizer we ordered. As we are waiting the dishwasher comes out to use the mens room, which we were lucky enough to sit right outside of. He is wearing a sleeveless undershirt and an apron. He was sweating profusely to the point of his shirt being soaking wet. At this point it had been an hour and 45 mins and still no salad. My sister in law has to use the restroom and was air drying her hands on the way back to the table because there were no towels in the ladies room. I went to the front to cancel just my meal. As I am waiting to talk to the GM, who was obviously avoiding us at this point because the experience was unacceptable, I see the same sleeveless dishwasher handling food and plates in the kitchen and still sweating. In the same sleeveless shirt and apron. After being there for two hours and 15 min we received the one salad we ordered. The GM finally came over apologized and offered the entire table one free bread pudding. I was absolutely furious. 15 mins later only my wife received her food. My wife sat patiently for her brother and her sister-in-laws food to get dropped but after another 10 mins the GM shows up with my food that I canceled but not the other 2 dishes. Again, unacceptable! Five more minutes went by and her brother's food got dropped. At this point my wife's food is cold. We asked the waiter to be honest with us and let us know how much longer on the last plate. Let's just say that my wife ate her cold food and my brother in law ate his. 10 mins later the GM brought the last dish out after the other two were finished. He apologized again and let me know that he was certainly going to take my meal off, you know the one I never got. I guess he read the reaction from all 4 of us as we listened to him explain his discounting something we never received. So he then quickly offered half off of three people's food who did eat. Never-mind the fact that they didn't eat together and it was cold. The one last insult before we left is they didn't take the flat 2 liter diet Coke off the bill that we sent back. We were so fed up we just paid it and left. Not only will I not recommend Rebirth, this is the first restaurant that I will actively tell my friends, colleagues and social media to avoid like the plague. read more
