I love the Empanada Company! We went here after a nice little walk at Memorial Park. We got several different empanadas such as the guava and cheese, pumpkin, chorizo and potatoes, beef filling, potato and egg and a sausage kolache. Everything was amazing besides the potato and egg. Don't get that one!! Definitely try both a breakfast, lunch and dessert empanada! Service was great, and kind. They did forget my beef filling one, but once I told them, they immediately apologized and gave me one.

    They are now open!

I'm so happy to have met the owners! Their empanadas are DELICIOUS! My mom & I have been circling this establishment for days waiting for opening day. The wait was well worth it! They have breakfast empanadas, assorted meats, mushroom, and fruit pastry empanadas. We picked molé, brisket, bacon-egg and cheese and pineapple with cheese. It's a quick and simple meal, their prices are very reasonable. Give them a try...they are in the PetCo / Gold's gym shopping center.

Chicken Pastry!! Filled with chicken and tomatoes!!! Buttery flaky crust...sooo soooo good!

I absolutely LOVE this place. Have been a regular customer for a couple years now! Hand made delicious empanadas and tortas! My absolute favorite is the Chicken Pastry! Dessert empanadas too! All made to order. Outstanding customer service, the staff is so kind and friendly! 10/10!

Delicious baked empanadas! My favorite ones are shredded beef, spinach & cheese and mushrooms. I am glad to have this place nearby.

Ask the Community - The Empanada Company

Is this the same place as the one off westheimer?

No, this is an entirely different style. These are not Argentinian style fried empanadas. These are baked and are more like a fusion of different latin countries. You should try it and taste the difference for yourself.

What kind of oil do you fry the empanada's in, and do you offer gluten free empanada's?

We do not fry our empanadas, they are baked. The dough they are made from contains vegetable shortening. We do not offer gluten free products at this time. Although I will mention that baked empanadas have about one-third the calories of fried…

Our waitress explained that the menu is a fusion of Dominican and Japanese cuisine. Since I have never visited either the Dominican Republic or Japan, I cannot speak to its authenticity. What I can say with confidence is that they have mastered flavor. The team at Mamajuana Café clearly pays attention to every detail--from timing and presentation to the thoughtful combination of ingredients and spices. Every dish felt carefully crafted and intentionally prepared. I only wish I lived closer so I could return more often and explore more of the menu. We ordered the burger and the filet mignon, and I highly recommend both. In fact, the burger was excellent. My only regret is ordering something familiar instead of taking the opportunity to try one of their more unique creations. If our first visit is any indication, Mamajuana Café is a place well worth returning to.

They have an all day brunch on Sundays only. Definitely take advantage of that. They have bottomless mimosas with your choice of a specific meal item for $50. It's a great deal if you're a mimosa person. I am. I will be returning.

From the moment I stepped into this cozy spot, I instantly felt like I was back home in Puerto Rico. Just like our island, it's small, but filled with a huge heart. We spent time chatting with them about our families, childhood memories, and how happy we are that they've kept our culture alive right here in the Montrose area of Houston. We enjoyed a true Puerto Rican feast: arroz con gandules, pernil, mofongo con camarones al ajillo, pollo frito, empanadas de yuca y masa, flan de coco, limber de guanábana, and of course, more food to take home because we couldn't have it all at once! My personal favorite were the limbers with traditional flavors I don't recall ever having a limber outside of PR. This is a counter-service eatery, where you can see all the freshly prepared dishes right in front of you. You truly can't ask for better service; if there's something you're craving that's not in the menu for that day and they have time, they'll gladly make it for you! That's the kind of love and care you only find in places that cook from the heart. Prices are very reasonable although parking can be a bit tricky but that's mostly all of Montrose. Let's keep our culture thriving. s Support our local Puerto Rican businesses. WEEPA!

They change the menu daily so check their Facebook page to know what they are serving. We had Mofongo with Pernil and Mofongo with bacalao (cod fish) which were delicious. Their empanadas (beef and corn beef) were light, flaky and very tasty. We had some platanos maduros (sweet plantain) and some tostones (fried green plantains). Topped the delicious meal with Malta & Flan. The parking is very sparse and the dining room only has 3 small tables and some seats along the wall. They sell till they run out so you want to go early.
