Sometimes all it takes is a craving and a good map app. My son and I were headed from Northwest Houston toward the Galleria when I got a random craving for empanadas. A quick search along our route brought us to The Empanada Company, and we arrived about 45 minutes before closing. The place isn't very large, and the bakery display cases held what was left of the day's offerings. The young lady behind the counter had been sweeping when we walked in and wasn't especially chatty when I asked about the different empanadas, but she answered my questions and let us browse. I was disappointed to find that the Chicken Tinga empanada I had my eye on was already sold out. My son ordered a couple of chicken pastries, and I gave him the side-eye because those aren't really empanadas in my book. I went with a Picadillo empanada, which came in more of a bell shape than the traditional empanada shape I'm used to seeing. Since I was still craving chicken and the empanada version was gone, I also grabbed one of the chicken pastries. The pastries were incredibly flaky--so flaky that half of one seemed determined to end up in my lap. Fortunately, the chicken filling was so good that I forgot about the mess until I finished eating. The Picadillo empanada was also quite tasty and easily the highlight of my visit. One thing that stood out was the pricing. Compared to other places I've visited for empanadas, the menu was surprisingly affordable. That's becoming increasingly rare these days. My only real complaint is the limited drink selection. A good empanada deserves a good beverage (Dr. Pepper) to go with it. Overall, this was a pleasant stop. The food was good, the prices were reasonable, and I'd definitely come back--especially for two or three more of those Picadillo empanadas. Empanada me up. Found this place on TGTG and it's delicious. It's in the front end of a small medical building so easy to pass. Small shop but very clean and the staff are super nice. They are warm and yummy. I have had mushroom, chorizo, vegetable, queso, mole, shredded beef. The mushroom is my fave. Packed with deliciousness. And the vegetable one was nice too. They are all really good. The fillings are seasoned perfectly. The empanada shell is soft in the middle and crunchy in the edges. They also have sauce so make sure to ask for that because it adds a nice punch to them. They also do breakfast ones and some other varieties. I love the Empanada Company! We went here after a nice little walk at Memorial Park. We got several different empanadas such as the guava and cheese, pumpkin, chorizo and potatoes, beef filling, potato and egg and a sausage kolache. Everything was amazing besides the potato and egg. I work in the medical field and cross paths with many patients and their families daily. They love to show their appreciation to the staff by feeding us. That's how I discovered The Empanada Company. They would deliver us boxes with a variety of these tasty treats and I told myself I am going to check them out in person. The time came when I was in the area and I made it a point to come here. I came late morning and parking was not an issue. They share a building with another business or two. The shop is tiny and has a couple of high tables and seating by the window. There's also some seating outside. Customer service was good. They open up bright and early and have breakfast empanadas as well as a breakfast sandwich and kolache option. All their empanadas are in cases so you know what is available. They have one case with their savory options and one case with the sweet/dessert options. I'm always going to pick savory over sweet and having tried the empanadas before, I knew exactly what I wanted. I went with the Spicy Pork and Chorizo & Potato. One thing about this place compared to other places I've had empanadas is, they don't skimp on the filling and they pretty big too. These are easy to eat on the go, but I chose to eat it there. They heated it up just right so the dough was nice and crisp and the filling inside was at the right temp. Even with delivery and being somewhat cool, they were still tasty. Both options I had were very flavorful and packed a little heat. The sauces they serve kick it up another notch in a good way. To wash it down, they have a drink cooler with lots of options as well as a coffee machine. I haven't been to alot of empanada spots in Houston, but to me, this is one of the better places to get them. It's a great snack option as well as a solid choice to bring to gatherings. I got zero pictures because we came post school play date for my child and we needed lunch and saw it on the way home because I made the wrong turn. The empanadas were really delicious and crusty and filling. The only issue is that we got brisket, but that wasn't brisket inside. It was some sort of meat, but we're not sure which part it was. That sounds terrible but it's not meant to be the cheese empanada was really good And so was the picadillo one. Prices were really affordable too. There hasn't been a time where I go to Empanada and I don't come out with a FULL smile and full belly! Firstly, the staff is very friendly, polite and accommodating to the customer needs. I asked once if I could see how they bake them snd they let me peak through a side window and the bakers said hi and everything! So humble and just happy to be there, you could tell. Although I understand the space itself is not big enough to bring a crowd because is mostly a "to go" place, the times I have actually eaten there it was pleasing; they dont have waitress staff and still brought my extra empanada and salsa to my table. Overall GREAT customer service. Now.... THE FOOD! Omg, the pastry fluffy and flaky empanada with spicy chicken is what I will get FOR SURE on top of the other ones I order, is just incredible. The breakfast ones they offer are also delicious and the filling portions are very generous in all their options. Oh hey, there's an empanadas shop near me. Woohoo!! Excited that this little restaurant opened up about five minutes away from me so I immediately went and paid them a visit as soon as I heard about this place. Walking into the restaurant, there were only a couple other customers in there. They were both ordering to go, which seems to be the norm here. During my whole dining experience, there were several customers who came and went, but none of them actually dined in. Anyway, I placed an order for three empanadas: Picadillo, Deshebrada, and the Nutella empanada. I was informed that they had run out of the Picadillo so I changed my order to get the Papa Con Chorizo. The order didn't take long at all to prepare; only a couple of minutes. But this is one thing that I think they could change. When I received my empanadas, all of them were lukewarm almost to the point of cool. I think if they would just put the empanadas in the over for a few minutes to warm them up and make the crust a bit more crispy instead of soft, I would have enjoyed my empanadas more. Maybe this is because I came in after lunch hour so they didn't have any fresh one? Even the more reason to heat them up, no? Don't get me wrong, the empanadas were good but I'd like to eat hot or super warm empanadas instead of just lukewarm empanadas. I personally don't mind waiting a few extra minutes to get hot empanadas. As for the prices, I thought they were really reasonable. Each empanada costs about $2 or a little over $2 and they're pretty good sized. Get two or three and a dessert empanada, and you have a meal. I also have to note that they serve Kolaches as well but I didn't see any while I was there. Maybe they only serve them in the morning or they'd run out? Not sure, but I'm planning on trying them out. Anyway, definitely will be coming back and hopefully in the future, my empanadas would be served hot. read more

Came here with a 20% cash back Groupon coupon. I got two breakfast empanadas and a coffee, and the price with the cash back came to around $4.58 with tax. The young Hispanic woman working was friendly and helpful. The empanadas were good overall, but since I came after the "10 am" breakfast cut off time, I don't think they were as fresh as they would have been had I come earlier (they didn't lose any points for that). The menu price for the breakfast empanadas I ordered was $1.79 and the coffee cost $1.75 (plus tax for everything). The coffee is served out of a Nescafé Algeria machine, and isn't freshly brewed in-store (Or so I assume). As per the three circular stickers on the machine, free refills are not allowed. All in all, no big complaints, but when I sat down, both tables were dirty (no other customers were in the store). I'd just suggest that the crew makes sure they monitor the tables, so that they are cleaned. Again, that was more of minutiae, but something to keep in mind. read more
