Really had a good time at Escape Effect last week. We booked "Fright Before Your Eyes" and it was great. The place was clean, the workers were enthusiastic and helpful, and the room itself was very interesting. We enjoyed it so much that we came back a few days later and booked "Sherlock Studies", which we also really liked. I really recommend this place! Super family oriented and very friendly! My family and I did "At Odds with the Gods"! It was awesome! We had a great time! We had 90 minutes to finish it. It started in a small room, and after watching the video, we really didn't know where to start, all we saw was locks and locks haha but thankfully the staffs were there to help us and give us a hint! It was only my husband, my 10 yrs old and I trying to solve everything haha my 7 and 2 yrs old were able to help a bit! The owners and staffs were awesome and very helpful when we felt lost! They made this escape all on their own, pretty genius!! Would love to do the other 2 themes next time we will be in Orlando again! read more

My husband and I visited Escape Effect while on vacation to Orlando and played the Encore room. We have played around 20 escape rooms now and this was by far the best lock-and-key style room we have ever played (& probably my 2nd favorite game we've ever played!). We are typically more attracted to rooms with more technology and effects but the puzzles, decor, and INCREDIBLE ATTENTION TO DETAIL made for an incredible experience. Best escape room in Central Florida. It is 90 minutes and the themes are elaborate and a bit challenging but really fun. A +++

First, My Background with Escape Games: My wife and I have experienced nearly thirty escape rooms, mostly near Orlando, Florida, and Virginia. Typically, we just do them just as a party of two. We favor story, theming, and scenery: we're looking for immersive adventures that are impossible to get at home. Fantasy, science fiction, and horror are the genres we tend to gravitate towards, and we prefer them all with a healthy dose of whimsy. --------------------------- The Escape Effect is a wonderful new contender in the Orlando escape room scene. It offers a great mix of puzzle design and big enough budget to believably bring you into another world. Two stand-out differentiators to be found here which I really liked: 1. The rooms don't last exactly one hour. I assume that the puzzles were designed first, and the time was scaled to be reasonable, based on testing. All these escape rooms having to be one hour, everywhere else, feels arbitrary and often limiting. The Escape Effect's rooms warranted a little extra time and I loved being in them for a little longer than standard. 2. The hint system: instead of getting some set number of hints per-game, once you use a hint, the next one recharges over time until you can use another. It made me less nervous about using hints. This is neither good nor bad, but also different: The Escape Effect's rooms involve more backtracking through previous areas than we've found at most locations. The puzzles are physically wider-reaching. It's a unique flavor; you should check it out! --------------------------- At Odds with the Gods: This is probably my favorite escape room anywhere into terms of decor, props, and room theming. I really liked the music too. Like Greek mythology and escape rooms? You'll probably like this too. 90 minutes went by fast: we didn't even ask for the extreme difficulty level, and it was still challenging for the two of us to get out in time, not bothering with a lot of clues. Sherlock Studies: We liked At Odds with the Gods better (its theme is just much better-suited to us than Sherlock Holmes), but this is still a very good room. There's a particularly fun puzzle I liked most, late in the game, which I solved using something like "dancing", but it didn't necessarily need to be solved that way. I bet it's a good time for the game master to watch people work through it! I've read about are some pretty bad Sherlock-themed rooms in the area-Sherlock Studies is not one of those! I think this room would probably work out best with someone devoted to researching the story in the clues, while others collect the clues. As it was, I had to switch from rewarding exploration during the first hour, to time-crunched research and crime solving, late in the game. I don't like having the most difficult thought-work bunched up at the end of escape rooms, because I get a little panicked as the clock gets low. However, the upside of that is that the story of the room is deep; all the characters involved are interesting and their plot lines are contained appropriately for the main puzzle. --------------------------- If you're in town, possibly for any of the local theme parks, you'd do well to book a room at The Escape Effect: its location is incredibly convenient and their rooms are much better than a lot of the local competition. I'm sad that we didn't get to see Encore; I hope we can make it back while it's around! read more

We did the Sherlock room. It was very challenging. This was the first escape room I ever did where you get over an hour. I have to say this was a great looking facility and the props were great. This was definitely up there for challenging rooms I have done. This probably was my 13th room. I would highly recommend this business and plan to do another room here the next time I visit the area. read more

At Odds with the Gods was our 50th room and easily made it into our top 5. The set design and production value were fantastic, the owners were welcoming and friendly, and the puzzle design was exceptional. The Escape Effect is a great addition to Orlando's escape room scene. The owners, Dan and Jamie, have clearly spent a lot of time in escape rooms themselves, and their experience shows in the design of Escape Effect's first room, At Odds with the Gods. The attention to detail is evident from the moment you walk into the room. For starters, the lights are off until the introductory video is over. No peeking! As for the video itself, the narrative was well-done, and even the rules video had better production value than most others I've seen. On to the puzzles (spoiler-free)... 'At Odds' begins in a nice open space with a variety of puzzles/clues. When the lights came up, the six of us were able to easily separate and find items worthy of investigation. Even as we progressed through the room and narrowed the number of puzzles we were actively solving, everybody remained engaged; it never felt over-crowded. One thing I really appreciated about this room is that everything felt very intuitive. Not easy, but intuitive. In most rooms I've played, there's at least one moment where something feels slightly confusing... maybe some visual element of the room is poorly identified, maybe the design implies that you should be able to open a lock when you're still missing part of the key. This room avoids those issues altogether. The puzzle pieces just fit together really well, creating a strong sense of continuity/progress, and providing a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Regarding the previous reviewer's comment about in-person hints, that's been addressed. Before we began, our host asked if we'd prefer our hints via text (TV), intercom, or an in-person visit. One other nice change - you can get as many hints as you'd like, but they're rate-limited. There's basically a bar that resets if you ask for a hint, and you just need to wait until it's full again before you can ask for your next hint. Pretty cool, right? We were also offered the opportunity to play in expert mode. As Dan explained it, expert mode increases the difficulty of the room through modifications to a handful of puzzles. The variable difficulty within a specific theme is a really nice twist. I'm more accustomed to venues where a theme just has a fixed level of difficulty. It's great that this venue is looking for ways to engage players of all skill levels in whatever theme best captures their imaginations. Despite having lots of escape room experience on our side, we declined the offer to play in expert mode - probably on account of the 90-minute room time and the low escape rate. Turns out we probably could have accepted the challenge, as we went on to escape in record time without any hints. :) At Odds with the Gods is a wonderful debut by The Escape Effect team, and I'm excited to see what they do next! This was a REALLY well put together Escape room. We did the Encore Room and it was so much fun and really stuck with the theme throughout. The details were fantastic and there was a good flow for the clues. When we asked for clues, we really liked that they asked if we wanted a nudge or if we had a particular question - It just helped guide us properly. My only criticism is that we wasted some time waiting on them to give us clues and had to tell them where we were in the game a few times. I think an extra staff and/or better camera placement would have helped that. Overall, friendly and amazing staff and a wonderful Escape experience - We certainly will be back soon! read more

My fiancé and I did the room at odds with the gods and were extremely frustrated and disappointed when we left. The theme was very loosely put together and the puzzles and locks were all over the place with no linear or cohesive plot, some of the worst highlights were a chalk tablet for writing stuff down to figure out clues that barely worked and puzzles that had nothing to do with the theme. The locks took forever to open even when the correct combination or word was put in due to every tiny section having to perfectly line up. Overall what was meant to be a fun and challenging experience turned into frustration and disappointment, I'm a lover of escape rooms but needless to say we won't be back. If anyone needs us we will be at America's escape game. read more

My group did the Sherlock Holmes room and it was super fun and really makes you think. As a self proclaimed "Escape Room Enthusiast" I want to start off by saying that The Escape Effect is top notch and has some of, if not the best rooms I've ever done. I've done well over 50+ rooms and these are among the highest tier. If you are in the area, I cannot recommend enough making a stop in and playing one of their games. I've played them all at this point and I've had a blast in each one. Not only do they have rooms that are over an hour but the atmosphere and tech in each room is incredible. Just to put a cherry on top of it all, the staff at Escape Effect are extremely nice, dedicated and helpful. Escape effect was different than most escape rooms. It was a fun and exciting escape room that offered rooms for as few as 2 people and that lasted up to 2 hours. My sister and I did the "odds of the gods" room which was a 90 minute room. It's hard to find rooms that will allow only two people but the longer time also helped to ensure we could make it out in time! Obviously can't give too many details about the room itself but it was very challenging and exciting. We were also super grateful as when my sister booked the room she accidentally selected the wrong date and didn't realize it until she got a reminder on her phone. We were not able to make it so she called them and the staff were very understanding and switched the date for us. After the room we were given a coupon for 20% if we decided to do another room which is very cool! They have lots of fun rooms so hopefully we will be able to get back soon! read more

It was a very refreshing experience! It was a NEW storyline, NEW twists to puzzle solving and a NEW timeframe (90 minutes of game time)! The number of challenges and puzzles presented warrants the longer than traditional 60 minutes. You COULD challenge yourself to beat the traditional 60 minute mark, but don't be surprised if you go past it. BONUS: Ask for hints. As of now, there's no restrictions for hints like most places, so ask away and keep moving on with the adventure. NOTE: Help arrives IN PERSON. Some people don't live help because it "breaks" the setting, thus they prefer electronic hints. read more

Played Odds with the Gods with my family of 4 and my sister's family of 4. My family had never done an escape room before, but my sister's family has done several. We all had a great time regardless of our level of experience. The game was challenging but fun and managed to keep everyone in our group of 8 busy. We enjoyed it so much that we went back again that same week to play the Sherlock game. Highly recommend!!! read more

This is not the best escape game in Orlando. We did the Encore game and our room guide was completely inattentive. Anytime we asked for a clue she had no idea where we were in the game and couldn't give us really any guidance. The locks are very cumbersome and not easy to use. I was only going to give this place one star but I added another one because the production value was actually pretty cool, but we wasted a lot of time even though we had the right code but didn't enter it correctly on the lock. In any other escape game the attendant would have at least guided us to try it again but they just let us be idle for a really long period of time. Really poor customer service and we won't be back to try the others. read more

Upon arrival for our reservation, We were told that we would now have to share our room with another party. My husband and I were in Orlando for a couple of days, and we decided to go to an escape room for fun. Normally, we go to the same escape room every time we visit Orlando. This time, we decided to go to a locally owned game room to help support their business (which I encourage everyone to do). When we walked in the doors, we were impressed immediately by the styling of the lobby. One of the owners greeted us (a benefit of supporting local). She was very friendly and welcoming. We played the Sherlock Studies room. What a fun adventure! The room was an original design (another benefit of supporting local), and it was expertly put together! This place looks like it runs with the "big dogs" in Orlando, but it has the great customer service of a small business. If we would've had time, we would have done another of the rooms there. The next time we go back to Orlando, The Escape Effect will be the escape room we visit! If you want to have a really good time with friends, family, or even co-workers, this place is a MUST! We were very impressed and so glad we decided to support a local business... they've got it together MUCH better than the franchise we've been to in the past! read more

Awesome. The best escape room in Orlando. Very good theming. The pre game and the in game was amazing. They have a 90 minute game, and it was awesome, full of fun with multiple puzzles and challenges in each minute. The Escape Effect in game allows for more than 3 hints, and they are very helpful. You haven't lived until you've done an escape room here! Ok...so maybe that's an exaggeration. But seriously... it is hands down the most exciting, interactive room I've done and this was my 11th room. We did "At Odds with the Gods". They have a unique clue-giving/receiving system which I was a fan of. The decorations in the room were supreme. The room had a ton of puzzles to do. They can adjust the difficulty level of the room based on your group size/skill. I mean...mind blown! No where else does that. If I had to be nit -picky and choose SOMETHING they could improve on, it would be that the clues were a little vague at times in the way that they would tell you how many pieces there were to the puzzle instead of perhaps where to find those missing pieces. But that's me TRYING to find something wrong with this place. They make me want to get a part time job there to be a part of the amazingness all the time! The owners Dan and Jamie were great! They are so nice and don't rush you out of the place to get ready for the next group. I can't wait to try their other Sherlock Holmes room and the newest one when it opens! They may be the newest escape room on the block, but they have SO much going for them and will be at the top on the list in no time! read more

Love this place! We have done every single room they have. We have taken friends and family here becuase we have such a great experience every time we go! Every time we go we notice small things that the owners are improving on. For example, the last time we went they had a really nice photo area set up. Very professional looking photos that they post right away on their website/ facbook! They are very accomodating and really want to know the feed back from all players. The owners really make you feel like they want you there and that they want you to have a customized fantastic experience! They will give you more or less clues depending on your experience level and your request. For example, my team and I are experienced escape room players and asked for very little clues and to be helped out only when they noticed we were stuck. The couple did just that. They were availabe and ready each time we requested a clue. The game master really makes the experience and they sure do make it the best possible experience! read more
