I was just surfing the net trying to find some awesomeness to get into and I came across this place. I grabbed a group of 8, paid online, and off we went. The place is adorably decorated, the staff was totally cool, and the concept was hip and fresh. At the start of the game they gave us a narrative and we headed off to our room. Once inside we were given 45 to complete the task of finding the key to release ourselves. It was fun and crazy at the same time. Fortunately we made it out with just 1 minute to spare. My whole group was excited! Once released we grabbed some props, posed in front of a decorative wall and they snapped a few photos for us. What a cool way to share some laughs with friends!! This was absolutely, positively the most unique, fun, invigorating, and downright awesome activity I've ever done. I had absolutely no idea what to expect when we came to Escape Room and I'm so glad that I didn't because that made the experience so much better. Once you walk in the building, you feel like you're in someone's very well decorated home. The waiting area is comfy and cozy, just the perfect spot to eat snacks and wonder what will happen next. When it was time for our mission to start, I was so pumped. She gathered us around and let us know that we were secret agents and told us what our goal would be. At that moment I felt like I was one of the greats! Inspector Gagdet! Carmen San Diego! Olivia Pope! An agent from Criminal Minds, even! I am a huge crime/detective show fan so to feel like i was in one in real life was really invigorating. My favorite movie as a child was Clue for goodness sake! We were told that we had 45 minutes to complete our mission and find a key to get out of the room. When the timer began, we ran in with guns blazing (not literally)! What was most interesting to see was that when you're there with a group, you get to see everyone's personalities shine. You have some that are perfectly fine spectating with wine in hand (you can bring alcohol!), some who just want to dance, and then there are those who immediately take charge, and plenty of people in the middle. The 45 minutes seemed to fly by and unfortunately, our team was not able to complete the mission. Bummer! Let's look at the silver lining though, folks. There is always next time because there is a whole 'nother room and they periodically change the missions in each. Don't ever hesitate to gather up a group of your friends to get your detective on at Escape Room. Just make sure that you get that trench coat and magnifying glass ready, because this is the real deal! read more

One​ of the best escape rooms I've had the pleasure of visiting. Escape Room Live screams production value. Our room Curse of the Mummy was fully themed down to real sand on the tomb floor. All of the puzzles and gimmicks we're practical/physical (no dumb combination lock puzzles here). You're doing things like assembling a model on an alter or bouncing light with mirrors to activate the next step. Highly recommended! Now the caveats. While I thoroughly enjoyed this room and will definitely be back to try their other offerings, there were a few minor/technical snags that bear mentioning. Many of the secret compartments which are supposed to open after solving a puzzle barely moved. This could be due to dust/sand accumulation making the doors stick, but it was hard to know when we completed some of the actions because of this. It was only after tapping the set pieces that some of them popped open. Suggestion to ERL crew: consider adding solenoids or stronger hinge springs that guarantee these compartments and doors are obviously open to participants. Audio cues go a long way too. Maybe a stone grinding sound to accompany the large doors unlocking. Also our guide was a little too vocal on the radio. We appreciated her checking on us periodically and asking if we wanted hints (which we didn't need!) but the way she was asking, was partially giving away some details. It didn't affect us since we were a few steps ahead of the puzzles most of the time, but maybe some more coaching about being tight lipped with inadvertent clues. read more

I have been to about half a dozen escape rooms in different cities. The lobby and bar area were really nice. The online booking was easy too. We did the Titanic room this time. There were only 2 rooms, I expected it to be more elaborate. The game moderator was just OK. When we asked for clues he would tell us stuff we already figured out. It seemed like he was reading from a list without paying attention to what we were doing. The room was challenging. We had 8 people, but spent most of the time all crowded around one clue that held up everything, so there was not a great advantage to having that many people. 4-6 would have been plenty. I also didn't like that they gave you only 45 mins for the game. In every other escape room I have been to, the staff walk you through the clues and do a debrief and offer to take your photo. This did not occur. He just let us out and that was it. Kind of a bummer way to end the experience. We wound up asking the bartender to take our photo and she did. Seemed like a lot of missed opportunities. I expected much more Titanic themed decor and clues...but they were pretty generic and could have applied to almost any theme. I probably would not go back to this location. read more

Came with a group of 6 and did the "Runaway Train" room. More fun than we all expected! The rooms were very well done and had all the "grime" you would expect on the New York subway. It took us a few minutes to get started and we had to ask for a hint, but after that we were on a roll. 6 was a great size, everyone was engaged and solving the puzzles. We finished up with 12 min left which seemed reasonable. There is also a nice bar and some tables to play a variety of games. Nice to enjoy if you arrive early or have some time to kill after you finish. read more

What a fun spot!! Unfortunately our team did not solve the puzzle. If we had ten more minutes I'm confident we would have rolled on our of there just fine. Olivia was awesome! She was clear in explaining the rules of engagement and making sure we had fun. It is a neat concept and I would definitely recommend having a birthday party of some other private event here. She mentioned bachelorette parties but since weddings are already high stress I wouldn't necessarily risk working together and possibly having it not go so well before the wedding. We went as a team building event and I would love to go again to give their second room a go! You can even bring your own alcohol and snacks in, which is always a plus. Great way to save some money on a date night in DC! We were a group of 13 and I will say I think it was too many people. It was hard for everyone to be an active participant. At times things could get too chaotic and it was easier just to sit by the sidelines and watch. I've come here twice and really enjoyed it both times! I did the Titanic room first and then the Ghostbusters room. The rooms are incredibly well-designed, with lots of little details that really make the experience. The one thing I'll say is that the rooms are pretty difficult- I came with different groups, but both times we had to ask for hints, and just barely finished in time even with the hints. The "gamemaster" outside of the rooms was funny and helpful both times, but I'm not sure how we would have solved the rooms without his help! I'd still definitely recommend both rooms, though, and plan on coming back to do the other three. read more

Such a great time! This was our first time doing an escape room not really was like an adult sized game of clue. And no, we didn't make it out. We almost did though. The pricing made this a really affordable event and it was just the four of us in the room. They even put a special birthday message in a clue for my sister. That made it really special. Even though it was really hard we want to do it again. It really challenges you to think outside the box, put together a really big puzzle and work as a team. We laughed a lot. The whole atmosphere was fun. As a note, we parked in the lot behind the bagel place and didn't have to pay since it was a weekend evening. That was awesome. read more

I love doing escape rooms and this is one of the best in the DC area. The rooms are really well designed and are heavily invested in (in terms of decor, tech and props) so you really feel the experience they are trying to set up for you. I came with a group of 4 and did the pirate themed room. We beat it in about 28 minutes and while it wasn't very difficult, it was still a lot of fun. There were some really fun mechanics that were pretty unique to this room. I would say that based on how linear the puzzles were the room design was better for 3 people as it always felt like the 4th person was tagging along or observing because there weren't enough puzzles open at a given time. Jorge our game master was so kind and nice. The whole staff were really friendly too. This would be a great experience as a party idea or to just find something different to do for an hour. One thing that's a bit of an up sell is that you can buy an enamel pin of the room you beat to have bragging rights but it's cute and now of course I want to collect them all by doing all their rooms. read more

Totally a fun experience! We did the GhostBusters themed room which is rated an 8/10 on the difficulty scale. I walked in thinking, how hard could this be... oh it is difficult... but rewarding. We planned a group of 10 so we would be with people we knew and had a blast finding the clues and see how everyone worked together. It was a good team bonding experience. Post solving or not solving the room you can take fun pictures and they have a cute bar area where you can hang out and chat about your room. GOSH! This place is too much fun! My boyfriend and I have done this once alone and once with a group of 8 and we escaped both times. I think I found it to be a little more challenging with a lot of people bc it was just a madhouse and I had no idea what was happening half the time. However, both times were equally entertaining. What an amazing group experience! We had two groups from our organization participate in two separate (but concurrent) Escape the Room scenarios as a team building exercise. We are a team of outgoing marketing folks, so Escape the Room was just what we needed to do something fun and different. It sure as hell beats pub trivia! The puzzles were solvable - our room averaged a 34 minute escape time. We got out (with 9 people) in around 42 minutes. There are smaller rooms as well -- the other group was 6 people and they escaped right around the 45 minute mark. Prior to going in our rooms, our teams set some ground rules -- only three clues allowed per team without a time penalty. We're competitive, so simply escaping the room wasn't going to be enough for us. We needed a clear winner! Someone needed to go home with office bragging rights. Overall, this was a much better experience than any other "Escape" experience I've had before and boasted a very well curated set of rooms. I'd love to return again and try my luck at another room! read more

This was my very first time in the escape room and it was great! We did the pirate escape room and managed to beat it! It did get a bit tricky because some of the props to alert you of the next clue wasn't loud enough unless it had an actual bell or dramatically opened. Especially the door lol we solved the puzzle and the game master said the door had been open for 2 minutes but we didn't even hear it lol But it was so much fun! I didn't catch our Gamemaster's name but he was really great, informative and supportive of our team! (Young guy with a short curly fro) And the venue is super cute. (Minus the stuffed squirrel ) We will absolutely be back for another escape room! And it was not packed in there and there were sanitizing stations everywhere. I forgot to mention the pirate puzzle is a bit scary bc you're anticipating what's going to happen next on his "haunted" ship. Definitely recommend for Halloween fun or just a cool spook! read more

I absolutely love Escape Room! This particular location (Georgetown) was great. The facility was very nice, love the decor! There were places to relax until your time slot came up and lockers (free!!) to leave your belongings in. The restroom was nice and clean as well. The actual room was set up nice for the game. Once you're done, you can take pics with the props they have laid out. The lighting is great to take extra selfies in! You also have various types of restaurants and shops to visit once you've left the facility! Can't wait to do another room here! read more

This place is awesome! We chose a Ghostbusters room. This room is 8/10 difficulty and I would definitely agree with that number. It was great and a bit different from other rooms (as we were told), because you don't need to escape from this room, but instead you need to solve puzzles and capture ghosts. It was a lot of fun. We had a group of 7 and it was just prefect. Everyone got to participate and we all had fun solving puzzles together. We got stuck a few times and had to use 2 clues even though at first we realllyyy didn't want to =) Our Game-Master Will was very helpful and funny. He made sure to communicate with us throughout the whole time and his input was just perfect to get us through but still keep it fun. I will definitely go there again. read more

What a sad experience we had at this escape room! I had such high hopes, as it was definitely the fanciest escape room experience I have seen. The lobby area is massive, there's a bar, and there are board games that you can play with your group while you wait. The space is decorated quite beautifully. However when it comes to the actual escape room experience, whoever set up our room after the last people forgot to lock up some things, so we had some clues way too early and we wasted our time with clues that were supposed to open these things. I don't want to give it away and get into much detail, but that completely ruined the experience. Also, the rooms are not sealed off so you can hear other people as you try to escape. It's quite distracting. The clues are not at all intuitive. Also, there were a few things in our room that were broken as well so we literally had to call the attendant and he had to manually do some things. It's clear that he had no clue how to do his job. It was probably the most disappointing experience I've ever had at an escape room, which is sad because I had such high hopes for this place. read more

One of my closest friends celebrated her bday here. We had about 8 people in our group, which is pretty big for an escape room activity. I was super stoked to try it out since I've never done it. I got in earlier than my friends did so I ordered a glass of wine and enjoyed myself while waiting. It seemed to be the spot since there was a lot of foot traffic so I got even more excited. You do have to sign a waiver when you walk in if you haven't completed one online. When it was time to finally begin the adventure, you had different room choices in the basement (which made it more appealing). My friend's partner paid for the room so I don't know if she was able to choose the room or not. There is also a competitive side as well, if you escape from the room under a certain time. You cannot bring your alcoholic beverage by the way, but you can leave it out of the room until you're finished trying to escape. (You have about 45 minutes.) I think that I would have definitely given this place a higher rating if the employee with us was a bit more enthusiastic. Her monotone voice kind of ruined it for me and she didn't seem to match the group's positive vibes. I was turned off with just how bland and bored our person was. I don't think I would come back to try this again, especially since it's out of the way for me. read more

I planned a birthday outing, for a group of friends and myself, at The Escape Room Live in Georgetown and it turned out to be soooo much fun! Arrive early enough to find parking. I parked in the public parking garage and it took about 10 minutes to walk from the garage to the escape room location. If you arrive late, you start to lose time off of your escape room game, which is only 45 minutes long. Originally, I wanted to book the Curse of the Mummy room or The Titanic room, because most of the reviews were based mainly on those two rooms...but all the time slots for those rooms were filled up. So, we decided to go ahead and book the Friday the 13th room and I'm so glad we did. They put a lot if thought into the creation of these rooms. I was really impressed when I walked into the Friday the 13th escape room. The first room is setup to look like you are in the woods and camping right outside of a log cabin. The concept of the game is to find your way inside the log cabin (a second room decorated to look like the inside of a log cabin) and once inside, you have to find a certain amount of locks that need to be put on the door to keep Jason out. If you get all the locks on the door in time, then you win. The best part about this escape room is that, Jason, from the Friday the 13th movie, is an active character in the game. Once everyone makes it inside the log cabin (the 2nd room) and closes the door.... Jason will periodically come and bang on the door and try to get inside the log cabin. So, expect screams from those who get scared easily, lol. I found it hilarious and laughed the whole time. Since this was the first time any of us had ever done an escape room, we needed quite a few hints throughout the game. The puzzles were quite challenging. The game master was really cool about giving us as many hints as we needed. We didn't end up conquering the escape room but had fun trying. She had alotta personality and was very good at hyping us up lol. The setup for the room was very realistic. We did the Fri the 13th room and it was like you were actually at Camp Crystal lake. Not what I expected but in a really good way. We did a Ninja Turtle theme. A few friends watched the Ninja Turtle movie the night before. We thought that the clues were going to require us to answer questions about Ninja Turtles. Rather, it was a definite brain teaser. I actually liked it better in that regard. Our group did not make it all the way through. But, we decided to go back again now that we know more of what to expect. From the time you walk in everyone is extremely fun, there was no wait time, overall a very smooth process. Although we were told there were no difficulty levels assigned-I felt that the mummy was extremely easy-my group of 5 solved the room with 15 minutes to spare. This was our first trip to Washington DC (from Arizona) and we booked two rooms at this facility(Georgetown), The Mummy and Runaway Subway during our visit on 5/31/17. These games were our 58th and 59th games overall. I thought about breaking down the review by room but quite frankly each room was well done. So all my input applies to both rooms. When my family discusses escapes rooms after we play them we think of them with three aspects in mind, setting, gameplay, and mechanics. Both rooms settings were exceptionally well done. Incredibly immersive to each game. Lots and lots of money was put into these sets and they are simply works of art! The stories went well with the settings, therefore, making them all highly immersive environments. The props were really well done and there was minimal clutter. The number of people they advertise/recommend in the rooms is 2 - 8, I would not want to do them with 8 people but 4 to 6 would be perfect. All the games had a good story to gameplay connection and while we had some searching to do it wasn't too much. A lot of the puzzles were unique and definitely memorable. The puzzles made sense in the room which was a delight. As far as pet peeves, they advertise there might be red herrings. There is absolutely zero reason to have red herrings in a short 45-minute room. As players, we create our own red herrings without you providing them. As far as our other pet peeves go which are having to guess puzzle answers, need for prior knowledge, and/or poor lighting....these were not issues in the rooms and I give them lots of credit for that! Overall, we enjoyed the games a great deal. As far as the mechanics go in the rooms/business, they had a good game flow, great hint systems (very unique and interesting), very attentive game masters, no breakdowns (Yay!), and a great website! This facility is simply gorgeous and it also contains a nice beer and wine bar which we enjoyed while waiting between games. So on the negative side, the games are only 45 minutes and we escaped in a little over 30 minutes, so the experience seemed really short to us. We would have loved to stay in these beautifully immersive environments much longer with more puzzles appropriate for the environment. Most escape rooms are 60 minutes, not 45 minutes. They do this to have more turnover in their rooms, probably to pay for the high price they paid for the gorgeous facility. Also, my little party of 3, seemed less important than bigger parties. What I mean by this is the customer service aspect in the lobby. We love to chat with owners and the people running the facilities and they seem to have been uninterested, even in lull times. Also, when it came time to take our group picture, we were waiting behind a bigger group who was getting all sorts of attention from the staff. When it was our turn, the staff left. We had to go ask the guy who took the last pictures for assistance but he said it was the ladies at the desks job. So we sat there some more waiting for them to get off the phone. The same gentleman noticed we still hadn't been assisted and said I guess they are busy, I'll do it after all. Now was that a big deal, no, but it was mildly irritating with regards to customer service. Overall though we thought it was a good experience. read more

We had a group of 10 people for the Titanic room, which was a lot of fun but we were not added to the leaderboard since we got out of the room without solving all the clues that were in the room. I had also asked to have a small note hidden in the room for my friend whose birthday it was but they completely forgot to do that.
