Traveled to this store from San Jose since I heard it was great. The inside is nice, compact, and organized so you can find what you need. Prices are a little high which is expected from a real store but I wanted to support a local business so I bought a few games. The employee who assisted me was extremely cool. I got home when I noticed one of the games have a huge chip on the disc. It also did not come in a real PS2 case. For the price I paid, I wish they would've mentioned at least the cosmetic damage.

Cute and organized store. Employees seem nice. Would come back to buy the plushies. They also have a variety for all games despite being a smaller store.

The coolest and cutest store ever!! They have so many variety of games, plushies, trinkets, even snacks! It was unexpected of how much I enjoyed this store. Even if you're not looking to purchase anything, walking around this store was a delight. It's like a time capsule for games. Workers here are also very nice. Highly recommend coming here!

Absolute gem of Alameda. Love this store, their stock, and all of the wonderful people I've met that work there. Have made multiple purchases and everything has been smooth, and even the one time there was a very minor issue they quickly rectified the situation with professional and friendly customer service. I try and make a weekly trip into the store and will continue to do so for a lifetime. Thank you for creating such a wonderful space and please support them!

I've been slowly getting into vintage gaming a bit more. I've occasionally been visiting Phoenix games and this little store whenever I have the change. Honestly, this little store is amazing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Their prices are extremely reasonable. I picked up my N64 for well below eBay prices. A lot of their non rare games are priced below what you would pay at a flea market (especially given everyone believes every vintage game is worth a fortune these days).

I used to collect sports cards growing up and had a Pokémon collection as a kid too, which I sadly sold at a garage sale before I knew any better. As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by the owner and his wife. Even with the holiday weekend keeping them busy they were super welcoming and took time to walk us through the store, explain how they price things, and answer our questions. First time shoppers also get a cool Pokémon pin which my son loved, and he picked one out for his sister too. Make sure to signup for their newsletter as they have a nice little $5 promotion too! Great selection if you're into Pokémon--from packs to slabs to singles. They also had a solid variety of video games and consoles from vintage to newer stuff. I had fun digging through the sports card boxes too, just wish there were a few more to look through. Best part was my son had such a fun experience. We opened packs together and put his cards into a binder we bought there. Definitely felt like a core memory for both of us. Would definitely recommend if you want to support a local shop. We'll definitely be back.

These figures are way more expensive than normal blind boxes but Nendoroids are always very high quality so it's fine! I saw a lot of figures that were really cool and I would consider getting them if I had a good display mechanism at my house haha. They even had MY BOY Heero Yuy from Gundam Wing which is quite rare to see merchandise of!

I highly recommend this shop to anyone who loves model building, collectible figures, or creating and painting their own character statues.

It's really disgusting how 80% of people in the hobby are larping manchildren that are no better than TCG resellers. 2.) I find that retro game shops across the US are generally really terribly ran with insane pricing, dirty interiors, bad selection, and rude staff. I'm happy to say that Gameshop Downstairs is the SOLE EXCEPTION. Their staff are very polite and genuinely want to help you find what you're looking for, even when swamped with customers on a busy day. Their selection is unlike anything I have seen in any game shop in the entire NorCal region, especially for late 2000s-2010s era games such as Wii, DS, and 3DS. I also appreciate that they have a wide selection of DVDs and BluRays - old anime, movies, and cartoons alike. They even regularly stock CRTs, and while a bit expensive, they do in fact sell at fair market price. On that note, their pricing is extremely fair, and even the more contentious pricing I saw was actually on the dot with fair market pricing when checking online. Even if some things are slightly marked up, I think they easily make up for it with the sheer amount of stuff they carry. I can't emphasize enough how good their collection is, I spent a whole hour here. The museum is really cool too. The mix of 80s-90s and 2000s-2010s gear made it a perfect trip for my Dad & I, since that represents the generations of technology we grew up with respectively.
