    Deadted Collectibles Come-Up!

My go-to local game store! I'm from San Jose but never mind taking a little trip over to Cartridge Cartel. The owner is super chill and has a great selection of games and consoles from Xbox to Playstation generations, Nintendo gaming systems, and more! Be sure to pay this spot a visit, as of 2023, they have relocated to 43134 Christy St. Fremont, CA 94538 (just in case Yelp hasn't been updated).

Came here just out of curiosity and ended up coming home with one of the all time greats. Owner is cool and will conversate with you about video games. Prices are extremely fair and honest compared to other locations

Fox & Falco Amiibos, out of box, $10 each

This place is so cool! Just came for the first time today. The owner was very cool - he greeted me right away, and was super nice to chat with. Their collection of retro games is honestly some of the best you'll find outside of a museum, and they've got a small but respectable collection of modern system games for sale as well. The prices aren't particularly low but I'd definitely call them fair, I got two Amiibos (Fox and Falco) for $10 each. The building itself is pretty tiny (I would be surprised if more than 4 folks could fit comfortably), so just be prepared for that. Overall, a very welcome addition to the area. I'll be back!

It's located in a small strip mall I've passed by in Milpitas and glad we stopped by. It was amazing to see such a large crowd of people coming in and out, it just made me feel like people still appreciate physical hardware. This feeling was acknowledged when I saw a row of CRT TVs for sale and how much better the games looked on their intended non-held hardware. They have a little bit of everything retro and have games ranging from loose to in box, it was cool seeing so many games I grew up with. The most nostalgic systems were the NES and SNES for me. Prices were not and and barely above market though my kids did notice the Pokemon stuff was marked very high. Staff was great and asked me for my requests and immediately looked it up. They also tried giving me free snes clear boxes but they were out of stock.

Everything is priced very fairly and competitive with mainstream retailers, online platforms, and even other retro game shops. They do it all here: retro and new video games, consoles, trading cards, plushies, accessories, and more. I feel truly lucky to have found this spot. It's officially my new go-to for anything gaming-related, whether I need something ASAP, want to get a game disc resurfaced, or just want to pop in and see what's new. Their backroom looks like it's bursting with even more treasures and I'm excited to see how they grow over time. I wish San Francisco had more places like this because the city is really lacking when it comes to true video game stores. We don't even have a Gamestop anymore in the heart of the city. The closest video game store is in Stonestown, which can be very inconvenient to get to. They also have some awesome free-to-play arcade setups and welcome people to just hang out inside, which gives the place a really laid-back, community vibe. If you're looking for a specific game or system and they don't have it, they'll even take your number and give you a call once they track it down. Such a thoughtful touch. I especially love their preowned deals like the buy two, get one free promo for games priced $11.99 or less. I can't wait to come back for my next haul.

Brought in my old GBA SP which had a busted screen, I've watched videos on how to fix it, but wanted to also swap out the shell. So after countless videos of people saying the trickest part is the hinges, I figured it was best left for the professionals. I also wanted to mod the GBA SP charging port to a USB-C but with Eli's insight, replacing the screen with an IPS and upgrade to USB-C it would probably be better to just buy an entirely new Modded GBA SP. So I just stuck with the shell swap and new IPS screen. We ordered the parts from Ebay as he showed me what was available on 3/28/2026 and called me 4/9/2026 to let me know it was ready for pick up so roughly a 3 week turn around since he had to wait for the parts to be delivered. Finally had it back in my hands and it was beautiful, 15 settings on the brightness and it opened and close with those satisfying clicks the OEM came in. Couldn't be happier, I will say the buttons do rotate when I'm gaming a little too hard, but nothing like rotating them back into their place fixes it. As for the shop itself, BEAUTIFULY CLEAN, it's spotless and they really make this place feel like gamer heaven. All the games in the store were in their respective locations and you had no issues finding what you wanted. (Unless it was in a container with no label)

It's really disgusting how 80% of people in the hobby are larping manchildren that are no better than TCG resellers. 2.) I find that retro game shops across the US are generally really terribly ran with insane pricing, dirty interiors, bad selection, and rude staff. I'm happy to say that Gameshop Downstairs is the SOLE EXCEPTION. Their staff are very polite and genuinely want to help you find what you're looking for, even when swamped with customers on a busy day. Their selection is unlike anything I have seen in any game shop in the entire NorCal region, especially for late 2000s-2010s era games such as Wii, DS, and 3DS. I also appreciate that they have a wide selection of DVDs and BluRays - old anime, movies, and cartoons alike. They even regularly stock CRTs, and while a bit expensive, they do in fact sell at fair market price. On that note, their pricing is extremely fair, and even the more contentious pricing I saw was actually on the dot with fair market pricing when checking online. Even if some things are slightly marked up, I think they easily make up for it with the sheer amount of stuff they carry. I can't emphasize enough how good their collection is, I spent a whole hour here. The museum is really cool too. The mix of 80s-90s and 2000s-2010s gear made it a perfect trip for my Dad & I, since that represents the generations of technology we grew up with respectively.
