We visited the Taverin 2/25/26 for dinner. Boneless wings were great for my son and I. My husband got the gyro. He took a bite and tasted something hard not recognizable. He took it out and placed it on the plate thinking it was a hard piece of lettuce. He took another bite and bit into something else. When taking it out of his mouth and looking at it, it was a defiormed/melted piece of plastic. He returned the sandwich and they made a new one but NOTHING was taken of our bill. I expected something like plastic in your food to be exempt from your bill. We did not even receive a discount. Very disappointed in the service tonight. First time visiting Cleveland and it was late with few options. Initially I was worried when the female staff appeared to be a customer and had no eagerness to sit us, and initially was a bit sarcastic. Also, there are areas in the back that smelled quite musky. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The food was tasty and hit the spot, and the portions were enormous for their sandwiches and pizza. Except the salmon was a bit fishy (likely frozen), and the chips didn't taste home made as stated and more like Lays chips, but they make their own dipping sauce that was good. They have plenty of beer options, and they great daily specials (I think it was a beer like Budweiser, burger, and fries for only $8!). Interesting Browns and Guardians themed decor. Came here on a recent weekday to settle a golf match (don't ask) and the winner paid for the meal...which was me! When we arrived the place was basically empty, but it quickly filled up with "regulars" and almost all the bar seats were packed! Had heard good things about their burgers (this was a Monday, but the "hot tip" day for burgers is actually their Tuesday special), so that is what were ordered along with tater tots. Their cheeseburger was pretty tasty, although a bit overcooked compared to the medium-rare I ordered. I asked for it with American cheese, sliced pickles and grilled onions (which were just warmed up red onions, not actually caramelized onions). Local dive bar that was hopping. It's a long bar extending way into their establishment. The bartender who apparently had the section I was in missed changing my potato to fries and I was about done with dinner by the time they arrived. I had their Sat steak special which for $12 what are you expecting. It was thick but a lot of fat and gristle. I'd be happy to spend more for better quality. I was not impressed with The Fairview Tavern on my first visit, but they caught my eye recently with their seasonal clambake special. For one weekend in October you could get a clambake meal for $30. This meal included a bowl of clam chowder with a pack of oyster crackers, 12 steamed mussels, 12 steamed clams, half a roasted chicken, a huge baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter, half an ear of corn, a roll, and either a slice of pumpkin pie or apple cobbler! Every year I try to go to one or two clambakes so I am always on the lookout for the best one, and Fairview Tavern had a deal I just could not pass up! There were some issues with trying to make a reservation (lots of back and forth because staff was confused about what time the event started each day), but everyone I spoke with was friendly. My reservation was for a Saturday afternoon when there was no special game on and the place would be a bit quieter. I showed up and it was how I remembered, a hole-in-the-wall neighborhood sports bar with its share of older regulars already perched in their spots at the bar. Service was on the leisurely side, but I was fine with that. I did not wait too long for food or drinks and encounters with staff were satisfactory. As for food it was pretty good. I was only able to eat the chowder (bacon in this? very good), mussels (really enjoyed the fresh lemon to squeeze on top), and clams (a little chewy but no sand) before my stomach started to hurt from trying to eat so much and a food coma was about to set in. Leftovers were fine to eat when reheated the next day (impressed with that apple cobbler by the way, but odd to see that my corn was smaller than my roll). I was supposed to get coleslaw with my meal per the advertised menu, but honestly there was so much food I did not miss it. I also went to a higher priced clambake at place downtown this year, and I think Fairview Tavern did a better job - better food, better service, better price. I would definitely recommend! The poor waitress was running g orders and covering the bar so it took over an hour for the food. The taste of the pizza made up for the wait. This establishment is a perfect example of unassuming good food because it's in a strip mall. The first time I ever came here was on a Tuesday night for their burger and beer special($6). I was completely surprised at how awesome my burger turned out. It was cooked to my liking and still had the perfect amount if juices oozing out. They also have a great deal on their pizzas on sundays and mondays ($5). I recently ordered the Fancy BLT and was pleasantly surpris ed on the thickness of the sandwich. I forgot to use the garlic mayo which comes on the side and it was still delicious! The portion sizes here are great for the prices! We have never been here before but heard great things. I had the special grouper sandwich, and my husband had a strip steak. We sat at the bar, the service was quick, and they were very attentive. I'm shocked at how quickly a rating can change. 5 of us stopped in recently to check out the band and get some food. I had been looking forward to this all week- I'm not kidding. There are always so many things on the menu and I was looking forward to trying something new. They were nice and busy, so we waited about 20 minutes for a table. When I finally feasted my eyes upon the menu.... I was so bummed. The menu has changed drastically and none of the things I wanted to try were on it. In fact, there was literally nothing on the menu I wanted to consider for dinner. How does that happen? I'm certainly not that picky. After grumbling a bit, I settled on a salad, lobster bisque soup (special) and pierogies. The salad, thankfully, hasn't changed. It's still pretty and their house dressing is delicious. The pierogi were smothered in too many red onions, but once I slid those off... there were pillowy, full and delicious pierogies underneath. The lobster bisque soup was disappointing. It had no lobster chunks at all and tasted like canned soup. I couldn't even finish it. Our service was okay, but I felt like we were ignored because they knew we were staying to hear the band. I started off with a beer, but the service was too slow to keep it going so I switched to soda. These guys are great. Nice bartenders, the place seems like it's ALWAYS open, they have decent martini specials, and there's a LOT of entertainment here all the time: bands, trivia, comedians, you get the drift. And there's a surprising variety of music, which I like. It's not just typical suburban bar bands, but they've had everything from the Frank & Dean guys (who do a Rat Pack type show) to Colin Dussault to like hard rock bands. I was there on St. Patrick's Day, and they had this Irish guy with guitar that was so good, so down-home real, that it was better than what was going on at some of the more bigger-name "Irish" bars. I'll be back next year, and will bring a bigger crowd of folks, too! Food? Very good to great -- the steak dinners are famous, and with good reason! Don't change a THING! The steaks are huge, the baked potatoes are huge, the salad's good, and everything's super tasty. In the future, when we're all dead and gone, they will still be talking about those Saturday night steak dinners! The wings are better than most. I think they were the first bar to have the Tuesday burger special. The fish frys all year round are good. I've been there on Sunday for breakfast and it's the best deal in town. I give 'em five stars, but there's some room for improvement. The big thing for me is the gluten free stuff, and I'm happy to hear that they're working on this -- I saw on Facebook that you can ask for the fish fry to be done gluten free. That's awesome! I just wish they had gluten free buns or bread, because their burgers and sandwiches are so great. Boy the cousins were not disappointed, happy with the steak, we left and got ice cream down the road after dinner. But returned after a few, came back and closed out the band. Also Sunday they serve $5 pizza's and 30 cent wings till 2a.m. The rest of the menu is unavailable after midnight. They change the menu several times a year and are always coming up with new good food. Sunday is karaoke night so if you like to sing or watch people make fools of themselves stop on in! Wow. Wasn't expecting anything too special when we decided to hop across the street from our usual Stamper's to give this place a try. Very glad we did. Sean ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the meat lover's calzone just sounded too good to pass up so I got that. Woah nellie was this a TON of food!!! We honestly could have split either plate and both been stuffed. 1. Calzone - great crust, yummy filler and again, just ENORMOUS. Very good. 2. Pulled pork - very very good as well. First of all, the plate comes out and has not one but TWO sandwiches as well as a huge amount of fresh made chips. I thought maybe this was a mistake so I ask the server 'is it always like this?' He said yes. So I guess you just get two people's worth of food at Tommy's for the price of one. The sandwich(es) themselves were awesome. Usually I steer clear of pretzel buns because I find them oversized and usually kind of hard. But these were perfect. Soft, tender, warm and yummy. Went with the pulled pork and coleslaw filler perfectly. I spied some of the pizzas they were bringing out and was drooling over them even as I was chowing my own calzone. I think I read that they have a pizza special night too one night a week so you can get a crazy cheap pizza. Trust me, we'll be back to try this. You should too.
