We have lived in FG 25 years and our first year picked up a Aussie/German Shepherd mix puppy. The staff was helpful then as they are today. That pup lasted 17 years, our latest addition is a large mix and went to ask advice for puppy foods. Same as always kind patient help. Walked through all the options between kibble and fresh and frozen. After choosing the frozen route was given information on the options as well as the purchase club which allows discounts or a "free" package after set number of purchase. Honestly it's not for all dogs as our sr dog on FreshPet turned her nose up but they were spot on for the puppy. Had to buy a "maze dish" ( which they carry) to slow down the eating. Absolutely love this place and have never had a true complaint in any service we received be it dog food, crickets, fish. all of it. Thanks for the last 25 years and looking forward to more. This place was worth stopping into. Seems like they cater to reptiles, small breed dogs (cute, but you could not pay me enough to buy a dog at a pet store - sorry) and then your typical leashes, harnesses, Bio-Bag fish filters. Today we went for the first time. Its right on 19th Ave in Forest Grove, OR, near the end where it "T"'s at the hardwood place. There is some little, funky named market across the street. Parking is in their own lot in front of the store. KOI! They have a whole bunch of nice, healthy looking koi (I am picking, but they looked really good). They were going ballistic thinking I would feed them, but I informed them I already fed fish today and would not be feeding them, too. They also had tri-colored goldfish, too. Like for ponds, the kind with a non-fancy tail. Their REPTILE selection is really quite good. Rattlesnake! They even have a rattlesnake in this place! I guess it has been de-fanged, or whatever it is that'll mess ya'll up. (Iowa girl here has to think back on what she was told by her husband who has caught these nasties with his bare hands. I know, I know, he has been known to do idiotic things from time to time). Other Reptiles they had? (keep in mind I am NOT an expert on reptiles) The above, as well as.... SNAKES: a king snake? another snake that looked like a king snake, but the colors changed as it went up to the head? another little, STUNNING beauty -- this snake almost looked like a sea crate (head was as round as the rest of the body, and super tiny) an insanely gorgeous blue scorpion (omg he looks like he could kick my ass - he was being kept in the dark but looked at him with my little flashlight), bearded dragons, a *cute* little tortoise, ......and no doubt more. They also had little Oscars (fish) that were super cute. One salt water tank? Some fresh water fish, but did not look at them much. They may have rabbits at various times (judging by the cage with the sign on it). The people were friendly, the place was clean and well lit. The animals seemed very healthy and happy which is a must. I never ever write reviews but this I had to. I went in on Dec 27th at 10:00am. I wanted a a fish (yo yo loach) from the big tank. The person seemed nice. I asked if I could get a fish he asked which one I told him one of the yo yo loaches he said and I quote "no I'm not getting anything out of the big tank b/c it will take forever". I was shocked. I thought he may be kidding but he wasn't. I understand they are hard to catch but that's your job. No one else in the store. I went here a lot many years ago and heard new management improved the store but boy did the customer service drop from a cliff. Never in my life have I heard an employee say to a customer I'm not doing that because I don't want to. I usually will try a place 3 times before I stop going but I will NEVER be back. Wish I could stay local but this was just not ok in my opinion. read more

I have been coming here for years. They're cheaper than petco and very friendly. Their animals are always healthy and they have a fair selection. I tend to come here for crickets, since they don't meticulously count every single one of them like petco, so I get more than enough. They'll also special order stuff for you, which is insanely useful. Not positive why this place has such mixed reviews. I've never had a problem coming here, at their worst their employees may look tired or bored, but they're still friendly. Will continue to return to this store for years more. read more

Young man working scared my son to death. We went in to buy crickets for his gecko. He told my 7 yr old son to make sure none get out in the house because they like to go in ears and live. So now my son is scared to death of these crickets. Will never go back there. read more

Extremely rude staff and not helpful at all. The "boy" who "helped" me was surly, uninformed, and the rudest person I have ever met. He told me he was the owner which is unbelieveable. I told him I would not be back and he said "whatever you fat cow". Will not be back and will tell my pet loving friends to buy elsewhere. read more

The employees here are always ridiculously friendly and helpful. They're always letting me know if they have a new product that's higher quality that I might be interested in, when the stuff I usually buy will go on sale, and how to save me money otherwise. Very knowledgeable and very nice. Great selection of dog stuff in particular and really good prices, considering that they're not a big chain and they have a lot of natural products. Love supporting them and the local economy rather than petco. read more

Okay so I go in to get some fish for my tank the gets my fish and everything, then 2 weeks later there all dead

I went in earlier today. We were the only one's at first and we asked for fish. The guy with the long hair started to help us. Than he went out to help another customer and we waited patiently with our two small kids for almost an hour. He finally comes to help us again and than leaves to help someone pick out dog food. We left after that and we only wanted 2 fish how long does it take!!!! Worst place do not go here! read more

I pulled up with about a minute until the store closed, and he didn't even mention that he was shutting down. We were happily helped by the owner, while even taking the time to hold a dwarf hamster in his hands so my kids could pet it. On top of walking us around to get what we needed, he gave my girls some Halloween candy. We all had a nice visit and were able to get what we needed. We will definitely be back! read more

This place is great! The staff member that I always see in there is very helpful and knows what he's talking about. Always offers to help take items to the car and so forth. It's a local store, that carries alot of the grain free and healthy dog food, as well as cat food, and many other items. We can't say enough good things about the Farm and Garden Store. We've been shopping there since 2000 because we like to buy local. It used to be dark and boxy, but we always found what we needed for good prices. In the past few years it's gotten a new owner and things are now FANTASTIC! Clean, light, bright and double or triple the selection they used to have! We've shopped for our cats, dog, lizard and toad and they always have the best prices. I have a lot of back problems and can't tote large dog food bags around--the employees are always right there to help my get my purchases to the car. They've given us a lot of good advice about ingredients and many product samples. I'm really confused about the negative posts on here! Maybe they haven't been in there lately? I've NEVER been treated rudely by anyone and we are glad to have them in our community!! read more

Today, I went into the store to purchase a large bag of dog food for my St Bernard. Even as I entered the store, both young men greated me kindly and as I rounded the corner, the young man who I believe is a new employee, (always buy my dog's food here and haven't seen him before) saw that I was nearing the large dog food bags and he was right by my side, offered any assistance and swooped up the bag(45lbs) that I chose, kindly rung me up then asked intelligent questions about my dog, and explained that they carry a brand that is higher in quality than the one that my breeder reccommended and I always buy. He gave me the reasons why to consider this other type of food then gave me 4 free single-serving samples, of different tastes for my dog to try before making a big purchase and committment. He carried the bag to my car and made me feel that it truely was his honor to provide this service. All of my encounters at this store is fantastic, the guys are cute, strong , professional and very knowledgable. I have shopped this store for 10 years and the customer service is something that is rare to find these days. It truely is a quality store that makes you feel that your business is important, you and your pet matter and I have never left without feeling grateful to have a hometown business that outdoes ANY of the other pet supply centers. I read the review from the lady about crickets for her gecko, It is unfortunate that her son was scared but it was a comment that was helpful and goes to show you how informed they are and provide education for better and safer pet care.
