A must try if you are traveling down I-20 in East Texas! The ROLLS are massive, and you have to try them with honey. This is a very unique restaurant since the inside looks like a farmhouse with a porch on one side and a barn on the other. The entrees and sweet tea never disappoint! Highly recommended! read more

My sister and I had the misfortune of stopping in here for lunch. We both ordered a filet. After 10 minutes or so (there were 5 customers in the restaurant, including us) we were informed that they no longer served the filet mignon. We decided on ribeyes, one med. rare, one med. well. 30 minutes later, our steaks came out. The server suggested we cut into them, because they were frozen. Both steaks were raw inside, and had to be sent back for additional cooking. The baked potato HAD to have been cooked the day before and re-heated. That is the first time in my adult life I could not finish a baked potato or steak. We both left $50 of meat on the table. It deserved a trash can burial. Grilled asparagus? Is that what you call those black, hard to cut with a steak knife, things? NOOOOO!!! I am known as a "trash panda" and I could not eat that meal. read more

Decided to try this place based on the positive reviews. It's very quaint on the inside, decorated with country tchotchkes and old farm implements. The pies are on display in a refrigerated case when you walk in and made us look forward to dessert. Our server was very fast to greet us when we were seated, letting us know she'd be right with us. What we ate: Sweet tea - nice and sweet. Rolls - huge, warm, and tender. Excellent. Mac & Cheese - NOT homemade. Was very creamy, but with a processed cheese sauce. Edible but not great. Not worth the calories. English Pea Salad - made with canned peas vs. frozen, so the salad was kind of gray vs. vibrant green. No flavor. Mushy texture. Very bad. Fried Squash - also did not taste homemade. Likely frozen and from a bag. Not great. Chicken Fried Steak - not bad, but not the best we've ever had. Mashed Potatoes - okay, but not very creamy. Burgers - kids said they were okay. Chocolate Pie - just okay, nothing to write home about. Coconut Pie - Just okay. Buttermilk Pie - Seriously disappointed in this one. I love buttermilk pie, but this version was very eggy tasting. The filling had a curdled texture vs. silky, creamy custard. The slight buttermilk tang was also missing. By far the best food I have had in a while. The farmhouse sampler platter had zucchini, mushrooms, green beans, puckles, mozzarella, and smoked mac and cheese all fried and all scrumptious. The grilled chicken salad had plenty of fresh veggies and marinated grilled chicken. The grilled red fish was spicy but not too hot. There was a mile high meringue cloud on the chocolate pie. The buttermilk pecan pie was just like grandma's. Adorable atmosphere with old fashioned sewing machine tables and a toy train that runs around the room . If you are traveling on I20 and go past Van, I highly recommend you take the exit and stop at the Farmhouse. Located right off the exit, this treasure serves home-cooked food like your grandmother used to make. A generous variety of menu and special options are sure to please the most picky eaters. Near the end of a 670 mile, non-stop run from Ruidoso. NM, I stopped for gas at Loves and saw this place. Hungry was I, so thought I'd check it out. Catfish, hush puppies, two sides and rolls, filled this hungry traveler up and gave me a sudden burst of energy that got me the last 30 miles to the house. Ate here for the first time Friday, May 31, 2019. It was around 1:30 and we ordered from the light entrees. My husband ordered chicken fried steak, with mashed potatoes. I had the grilled pork chop with green beans. The rolls that came before the meal were beautiful to look at but were "heavy", not light and fluffy as expected. The chicken fried steak was by far the toughest piece of meat my husband has ever encountered. I was given a steak knife to cut my pork chop, but he needed it much more than I did. He had a hard time chewing this meat. My pork chop was fine, but the green beans had no seasoning. Disappointed. This was a first time visit, and sad to say, we will not be back. There are so many restaurants to choose from. We try new places all of the time. But we do not go back, if they are not good. read more
