Yikes. We stopped by this Irish pub on July 4th, 2025 around 11pm for some drinks and a fun time. Although our drinks were good, we cannot look away from the cold "service" we received from beginning to end. It was an uncomfortable experience and I'm not going to keep quiet about it. Unfortunately, I didn't get any names, but I wish I did. Upon walking in, we seated ourselves at the very end of the bar. The bartender (a woman) who took our orders and made our drinks showed disdain for us. Why? Well, we're still trying to figure that out. We were polite and friendly during every interaction. Not once were we disrespectful, rude, or rowdy. Riddle me this... She barely made eye contact with us. No smiles, no warmth. Very standoffish. Very brief with her words. She acted like we were a bother... like she was doing us a favor. She and the other two bartenders (also women) did not check in on us or interact with us at all. In fact, they were barely at our end of the bar. We had to get their attention every time. It should not be that way... it should be the other way around. They all treated us in the same standoffish manner. We don't ask for servers to be up our a$$es every second... but what we do ask for is to be treated with basic respect and to at least feel welcomed. Bare minimum, isn't it? We thought that maybe they were having a bad day... but NAH. During the hour and a half we spent there, I observed the women interact with other customers at the bar. They were smiling, laughing, conversing, and being attentive to them. In fact, the bartender who made our drinks came from behind the bar to talk to customers seated next to us. I also observed her smoking and interacting with more customers outside. We couldn't even get a simple "you're welcome" out of her... LOL. When she handed us our drinks, of course we warmly said "thank you". No response or acknowledgement. A second later, she hands another customer their drink, they thank her, and she warmly says "you're welcome" to them. This might sound like a petty detail, but when you're being treated in a cold manner, these little things matter. When we received our bill, we still tipped 20%. In reality, they didn't deserve one. But I suppose being the bigger person can't hurt sometimes... :-) Girl... we didn't have to be here. There isn't a shortage of Irish pubs in the Hoboken area. First and last time. read more

Excellent service from the owner and waiters. Loved all of the drink selections. Nice patio of outdoor dining that has a bonus feature of being able to be closed off if it rains so that you can still enjoy the space. Also, there were a few tvs outside to enjoy the sports games. Ferryman is a comfortable place for families! Irish pub, so a good place for a great happy hour without the "young crowd." Menu has sandwiches, wings, and burgers. This menu is not too health or vegan conscious; but hey! It's an Irish pub! With that being said, I ordered the boneless wings. The Ferryman on 1st has really become one of my favorite local spots. All of the bartenders are extremely friendly; they have a vast selection of beers, canned beverages, wines, and cocktails; and the atmosphere is typically relaxed and upbeat, without a hugely overwhelming crowd. In terms of beverages, I have enjoyed things like their well-balanced Aperol Spritz, an extremely potent Casamigos and Soda, a small bottle of crisp Lamarca Prosecco, as well as cans of High Noon and Dogfish Slightly Mighty IPA; in other words, they have something for whatever type of mood I am in. Lastly, their food is great! The Southwest Turkey Burger is topped with Mexican-inspired condiments like pico de gallo and guacamole, as well as standard burger accoutrements like lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. The burger was served on a sweet brioche roll, which is much better than a basic, boring bun. I also substituted Sweet Potato French Fries for the regular variety, and they were good, but could have been a bit crispier. My group picked this spot because we had just come in from NYC and wanted to grab food and drinks that were close to the Hoboken Terminal. There was a nice blend of people in the bar so whether you're white, black, queer, or going for a ladies night, you'll feel comfortable at this place. A big plus!! You have to walk to the bar to place your food and drink orders that will be delivered to your table. The drinks were good and the food was decent. Came here on a Saturday afternoon with friends. The place is packed, given that it was only 4pm and we're in the middle of a pandemic. We were fortunate that they had one table open. The service I would categorize it as super informal. There was only two bartenders/servers serving about 25 of us, one of us had to go to the bar and ask how the service worked. We were able to get service about 15 minutes later afterwards. We order two samplers, which we were able to get in a timely manner. The other food we ordered didn't come until an hour later. Don't know what the hold up was, but that was unreasonable for it to take that long. We were given a free bucket of beer as compensation, which was a nice gesture for the hold up. The food meets expectations for typical bar food. We were there for a good three hours total. Overall, the servers were pretty friendly, when there isn't a backorder of drink orders lined up. We ordered drinks throughout the duration of the stay and we noticed our drink quantity got smaller as new staff members came to start their shift while our original servers ended theirs. Hoboken is pretty saturated with dive bars that play off the Irish theme (Shannon, McSwiggins, Willie McBride's, Moran's, etc), and Ferryman would fall in this category. This actually replaced Marty O'Brien's, which I did like. I came in as a means of finding temporary shelter (and a cocktail) during a bad downpour. The place was virtually empty, which I found surprising considering it was technically happy hour. I ordered a Tito's and soda, which was alright. That's one thing that this place can do right is basic bar drinks. The bartender was friendly enough. As for the food, there's definitely room for improvement. My boyfriend and I ordered shredded chicken nachos and sliders. The nachos were cold with cheese having already congealed to the chips, rather than warm and gooey, and the chicken was especially dry and bland; definitely needed some seasoning and spice (needless to say, I used up all my salsa to get some much needed flavor). The slightly were slightly better, although there was an odd flavor I couldn't pinpoint (my boyfriend thought it was okay). Fries were flavorful, but on the soggy side. Service was alright as a whole. Overall, while this is an okay spot to grab a drink or two, I definitely think this place could benefit from stronger menu options and food quality, either by limiting the number of dishes to focus on making a few really high quality items, changing the menu entirely in order to differentiate themselves from other bars, or being a bar that focuses on cheap, easy drinks (a la Mike's on River St.). read more

Sam is the best bartender I've ever had and clearly understands the menu considering the recommendation for the garlic pretzel sticks. If your looking for below average overpriced food and drinks this is your place. I've been to this bar multiple times and kick myself for not remembering how bad it is. I truly don't understand how this place is stays open. First, The food is truly not bad. I've had multiple things off their menu and not found one thing I can honestly say was good. On top of that the service sucks and you'll wait at a minimum 40 minutes to get food. Second, the drink prices are outrageous. They're charge 8-10 dollars for a draft of Yuengling or Stella. That is what I'd expect to pay at Del Frisco's not a dive bar in Hoboken. You don't even want to know what they charge for a mixed drink. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. It needs new ownership and management for me to ever walk into it again. read more

The biggest problem here is the service; it's terrible. The restaurant did not seem very busy; there were people at the bar and maybe 6 other tables besides my group on a Sunday during brunch hours. The waitress simply was not attentive enough. Took a bit to even take our drink orders, and it took a while to receive our drinks. There weren't even drink menus. Once we received our drinks we were ready to order food but the waitress already took off. When she finally came back around we ordered food and then some time went by, did another round of drinks, time went by, and then we were told our orders only just got submitted because of "system error". Obviously we had to wait a while again. When the food came it was just food, nothing great. One notable thing was the Eggs Benedict was cooked all the way through??? I don't order enough Egg Bennys, but I'm pretty sure you want that yolk oozing out of the egg; this was a hot hard boiled egg or something. Very sad to even be around. There was never any, "can I get you guys anything else?" we got our orders and we'd have to call the waitress back immediately because she was already walking away. Ferryman is such a fun bar! My friends and I went here for Santacon and NYE. Their NYE special was great. ~$90 per person for a four hour open bar and hot buffet. The food was your standard bar food - hard to mess up chicken fingers and Mac and cheese. The only issue we had on NYE was that there was a line forming around the corner to get in because they were letting people in in the most inefficient way possible known to man. It was one person checking off of a printed list and giving a wristband. I think there could've been a more efficient way by scanning the ticket or having more than one person assisting at the entrance. I would recommend going here as my friends and I had a blast but I hope that ferryman can be a little bit better with their entrance protocol going forward. read more

Having lived in Hoboken for 9 years, I have a good lay of the land particularly downtown. I can say nothing but wonderful things about Ferryman. The staff are delightful and the atmosphere is always in line with the vibe you would expect from downtown Hoboken and it's charms. That is consistently true for happy hour, Friday/Sat night or a recent brunch I had while on a date. I can not say enough great things about the staff and how they helped make what started off as an awkward first date into a wonderful experience. I would not come for the heavy bar pours but the portions of the bar food are indeed generous and rather tasty. Restrooms in lower area are not overcrowded and more notably, always clean. Fun spot and a must visit if in downtown Hoboken. My personal favorite is brunch and the only place in town that offers Irish breakfast paired with a healthy helping of OJ (Mimosas). I look forward to the outdoor seating and the people watching it offers. read more

My husband and I are in LA atm reminiscing ab the food in NJ/NYC. Having lived in the area, I've eaten at many great spots in Hoboken, which I've never reviewed. However, I should have written this review on Ferryman last year. If I could give the place zero stars I would. My husband and I went on a late weekend afternoon, nice weather, the youngish boozy brunch crowd wrapping up. A table of clueless girls, crying over their one night stands, while being hit on by some tee shirts looking for one night stands was mildly entertaining, but annoying. We ordered wings & Shepards pie, decent. BUT What we had to go through to place that order, insane. It took the waitress over 20 min to approach our table. She appeared fully drugged up. I asked her what beers were good on the menu and their comparable prices. She not only could not answer a single question, but rudely flat out refused to. She called over a bartender/bouncer who told us we would not be served if we didn't hand over our credit card. He was rude and mildly aggressive in body action. I felt uncomfortable, we thought to leave, but we're hungry and had been walking all day. He told us this was policy. However, I only saw him ask another man, who sat at a table and appeared homeless. My husband and I are 40 yrs old and well dressed. I couldn't help but think we were treated this way due to my husband being Arab, but we shrugged it off. The scene was an overly stupid real life stereotype and I try not to be offended by dumb these days. Service continued terrible throughout dinner. We ate quietly. Check was ab $100 and the bartender/bouncer 'accidently' charged our card 2xs. That's when I called him out directly and he aggressively appeared offended. Sometimes ppl can't see their own face. I demanded the manager who appeared at our table. He acted professional and normal, but seemed accusatory towards us. He rightly credited the overcharge back to our account. But I don't remember an apology for the reprehensible behavior from his staff. I don't know what the place is like now. I saw they had some racist problems reported in the news last year and action was taken. Regardless, I felt the need to write this review. There are many many other wonderful places in the city to grab wings and a drink. I would advise the normal minded from heading to this spot. read more

After it took so long and the rest of the party had gotten their food, the waitress apologized and said she was going to take it off our bill (which was so considerate) but then she ended up putting it on anyways because "I still ate it". We walked in and didn't get menus after asking not one but two people. We then ordered the bottomless mimosas which we came for, clarifying with our waiter that this was still a thing. A little bit later we got a new waiter who then said it wasn't a thing anymore and that we'd have to pay per pitcher. After expressing our confusion they didn't try to rectify the issue and just said oh well. There were several things wrong with our food as well, it took forever and wasn't very good. We were staying in a hotel down the street and needed a quick bite for dinner. After looking around for a little bit, we stumbled upon this restaurant, and wow! We hit the jackpot. I ordered the rodeo burger and it was delicious. The "fishbowl" drink that the bartender made was fantastic, and my kids enjoyed all of the Halloween decorations! It's definitely more of a bar scene but the bartender and waitress did not make us feel bad about bringing our kids in LOL. Just threw a surprise birthday party here for my fiancée and 30+ of our closest family and friends and couldn't be happier! Cormac and his team made everything perfect for us. From the array of food (served buffet style and kept hot for hours), to the music, to the friendly servers and bartenders, I can't say enough kind words about our experience. The nice decor and location are the only good things about this bar. It's disappointing that Ferryman replaced such a great bar as Marty O'Brien's. We went in today for brunch, it was our first time having food at the ferryman (we had been once before for drinks). The service was excellent, everyone was great, very friendly. I was there last night at Ferryman on 1st. I was the undercover cop doing my observation bar to bar. These girls were visibly drunk and abusive towards the bouncers. The bouncers acted appropriately. We looked at the cameras and they prove to show the obvious. At thus point we asked these young ladies to leave the establishment. Once the bouncers did their jobs, as expected these young ladies became abusive using inappropriate language laced with unnecessary "ethnic" comments towards the bouncers!
