It was family-friendly, with a bunch of families with their babies early Friday evening. Later in the evening, it was much busier with many people crowded around the bar. The staff were friendly but the service was very slow, even though it wasn't yet busy when we were dining. So we had to rush to eat and weren't able to finish our meal. Fortunately, we were able to get takeout boxes. The food and drinks were fine but they weren't cheap. It cost us nearly $50 per person, with an "op fee" automatically added to our bill which we only noticed after we got the receipt. I wouldn't come here again to dine, but it seems to be a good hangout spot for drinks or if you're a large group and need space. read more

Order food on your phone, a server delivers your order or tries to when they can't figure out who's sitting where at the tables and then you pay n your phone, with no cash option. So add 2% to your order to start. Then factoring not having some items but you don't know till you show up at the restaurant that's frustrating. But th fact that you can't get help if you need it when it's crowded but they still want to charge minimum of 22% tip plus fee for doing the minimum. My last trip to The Hoboken Biergarten had been such a letdown. The new management had appeared to have lost touch with the quality experience previously provided. Because of that, I had not rushed back, but decided to give it another shot during Oktoberfest. We were there for the last weekend of the festivities, but there was not much going on besides the addition of Fall menu items. Speaking of seasonal treats, I ordered one of their new cocktails, the Smoky Rosemary. Though we were sitting outside, rather than in front of the bar, my two rounds tasted identical. Between that and the fact that the place was always packed, I assumed that this was a batch cocktail. Regardless of it not being freshly made, it was delicious! The blend of mezcal, tequila blanco, apple cider, lemon juice, and honey syrup was sweet, smokey, herbaceous, and warming on the chilly afternoon. My cocktail selection was quick and easy, but I did notice that the Biergarten had finally brought back their long-form menu, offering a large variety of beers, wines, and cocktails. They also had more variety and more creative culinary dishes. Their new chef had conceptualized several elevated "bar food" items. Unfortunately, we had had a big lunch, so we just opted to share one of their giant Bavarian Pretzels with cheese and mustard dips. I was thrilled that the doughy snack was back to its tasty, tender self. There had been a period of time where their twisted pretzel went from being the best to the driest, but now it was phenomenal yet again! In addition to the menu updates, there were decor alterations as well. In the indoor side section, which was often filled with parties, they had now removed some of the long picnic tables and replaced them with comfortable couches. This provided a few lounge-like sections for large groups, which was a genius idea! Each space had two or three couches, a coffee table, and a television, making the setup ideal for mingling. I was thrilled to see that the The Hoboken Biergarten had brought back much of its charm and appeal from its days as the Pilsner Haus. I will be back! read more

This place is no longer Pilsnerhaus, and the new identity as Hoboken Biergarten is a complete downgrade. The management may have changed, but so did everything that made it worth visiting -- and not in a good way. The beer selection is uninspired, the food has tanked in quality, and the sausages taste like cheap imitations of what they used to be. The condiments are awful -- the mustard and sauerkraut are borderline inedible -- and the menu is a joke. A canned-tasting Thai curry at a biergarten? Really? It's honestly sad to watch what used to be one of the better spots in town reduced to this mess. A once-great place turned into a hollow, disappointing shadow of itself. They charged me for a drink on NYE when they shouldnt have and the bartender lied about it & said he didn't. The manager was a dick and walked away from me when I was talking to her. Same great outdoor beer garden but much has changed from the Pilsner Haus days. The new owners chopped back the extensive Czech and German draft list in favor of New Jersey microbrews. The menu still has potato pancakes, sausage and cheese spaetzle, but also Acai bowls, burgers, mussels, salmon, salads and other things that you might not expect. So, much less German, much more generic American pub grub. We started with a pair of Radeberger pilsners, $11 each, properly fresh and in the matching glasses, delicious. Mysteriously many of the few remaining German drafts like Bitburger were "out" when we visited on a Sunday afternoon, and there was no chance of a Pilsner Urquell. I stuck to tradition and ordered potato pancakes, 3 for $12, served properly with apple sauce and sour cream. Also tried a Curry Wurst "handheld" which means sausage served on a ciabatta roll, the sauce was nicely spicy, $13 with a tiny side of outstanding sauerkraut, I wanted much much more kraut. A side of plain fries for $7 was delightful. Personal service outside under the umbrellas was cheerful and prompt. If you really don't want to talk to a server, you can aim your phone at the QR code and place orders directly to the bar & kitchen. That may be the smart choice, because our server demanded a credit card when we ordered, then collected cash *and* charged the credit card, which we didn't notice until the notification came thru on the drive home. Be careful people. Monday is still half price day, but only on one beer, one burger and one other thing (absolutely no discounts on sausage), so it's not the free-for-all that we enjoyed previously. The big chalkboard listed Pilsner Urquell as a "German" beer, ouch that's an unfortunate unforced error. The word I have to leave you with is "enshittification". Reducing the selection and cranking up the prices isn't a way to get me to come back. read more

He is super informed about the draft selection, menu and latest offerings. He always shares the best recommendations and is mindful of our needs such as remembering birthdays which he brings out a dessert with a candle and sings happy birthday without us having to request it. After reading other reviews I wanted to note this was my first visit here- I was never here under the old ownership so I can't judge any recent changes. That being said we spent a sunny, end-of-summer afternoon in the garden and had a great time. They use an online system to order and keep track of your tab, which was great. Food and drinks turn up very quickly after you order. Of course you can place orders with the staff if you prefer, and everyone there was super friendly and professional. I had several of the Oktoberfest beers which are a good deal when you factor in that you can order a liter or half-liter. We also had several starters including the pierogis, potato pancakes, and of course a pretzel, as well as a bratwurst on a nice brioche roll. Music and vibe of the garden were excellent. The interior is huge and has TVs showing all the games. NYC beers usually go for $9-$10 at most. What would compel a person to travel to the industrial/uglier side of town for an overpriced experience? The Oktoberfest food was authentic and flavorful, and they have a good German beer selection on tap. Our server was very friendly, welcoming, but should have replaced the half glass of wine that spilled. Inside had a hybrid German Biergarten meets American sports bar ambiance, which was good to catch both the Giants game and the Mets playoff game. If you're considering attending an event at this establishment, save yourself the disappointment. We recently went to their Halloween event 10/26/24 (dressed as the surgeon and patient couple), drawn by the promise of a costume contest with a prize. Sadly, it was a complete disaster due to outright lies and disorganization by the staff. First, we were directed upstairs for the costume event by the staff handing out entry bracelets. The DJ upstairs even announced a sign-up sheet for the contest (which we signed up for), so everyone assumed we were in the right place. But as the night went on, no contest seemed to happen. Confused, we finally asked the bartender about it, and she had no idea, needing to ask around herself. Eventually, someone told us the contest had 'actually happened downstairs.' Why would that happen if we were all directed upstairs for the event? To make matters worse, when we asked to speak with a manager, we were told no manager was available--only to have someone suddenly appear saying he was the manager. When we asked him about the contest, his story didn't match the others. First, he claimed it was held upstairs, then suggested we must have been 'too late'--but we'd arrived at 10:20 pm and were there the entire time. We then asked who won and no one on their staff could give us an answer. The shifting stories and excuses made it painfully clear: the contest either didn't happen, or they couldn't be bothered to follow through with their promises. Management was dismissive and rude, and ultimately we were escorted out for even asking. This place clearly doesn't care about delivering on what they advertise. Instead of owning up to a mistake, the staff misled us and couldn't get their story straight. Customer service like this is unacceptable, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a well-organized, enjoyable event. Don't waste your time here--they don't respect their guests or their promises. (This isn't the kind of review I usually write. I prefer to highlight places I enjoy to support good businesses, and you'll see that in my other reviews on Yelp. LIES, THIEVES, CHEATED My fiancee and I had bought pre-paid online tickets to a Hoboken Biergarten costume contest for 10/26/ 2024. The Biergarten promised $5000 in cash and prizes. We stood the whole time waiting from 10pm till close to 3am while dressed in full costume with everyone else. However, the bar did NOT have the costume contest nor did they give away $5000 in cash prizes. They kept our entire entry fee without announcing the cancelation of the contest. They pocketed the money!! When we asked management about the contest, (around 2:30am) they were dismissive and rude. So we asked for our money back considering there was no contest or prizes money that we all paid for. The management won't payout and was afraid other costume contenders would feel the same. SO they escorted us out so that we wouldn't give awareness to others. I feel like this bar LIED, STOLE and CHEATED everyone who participated in this costume contest. I would never give my business to any company who takes advantage of their customers with lies and false advertisements. BAD BUSINESSES read more

We had not been in a while and were curious to check out as we had heard it had been taken over by new owners. We were greeted by a new waiter that we had not met before. His name was Joel and he was knowledgeable, personable, and really was helpful in picking my gluten free meal. He also really cared what we thought about the food and I really was impressed by this. He treated his job and the place like he was an owner and this is a characteristic you rarely find in anyone anymore. The food was very good. My husband had the chicken tenders and really enjoyed. He also had the sausage platter and liked that as well. I had the brussel sprouts that could have been softer and the salmon burger and side salad which I thought was very good. My husband drank beer and I had a ginger ale. If I had to make any suggestions, I thought the ginger ale was overpriced. If charging so much, offer refills. Really big and nice place to go if you're with a bunch of friends and want some beers. The food isn't bad here either. We had the smoked Polish kielbasa which was really good. I haven't had kielbasa in a while, and this hit the spot. It actually reminded me of the kielbasa I had from a street vendor when I went to the mountains in Poland. We also had the pretzel which was a nice size. I remember tasting the short rib grilled cheese which was pretty tasty and had a nice amount of meat to cheese ratio. They do have a lot of generic beers that you'll find in most places, but they do also have a few nice German beers on tap. I really liked the way the whole place looked. A very rustic feel inside, especially when you get to the big open area beer hall. The outside beer garden looked cool as well, but we all were inside as that was pretty packed when we arrived. It actually sort of gave me a feel like the way (and yes, I know it was created) the German section in Epcot in Disney looks. All in all, we all had a good time here with lots of fun. read more

I made a special trip there last week with a friend, expecting the same experience I had had for years when I lived in the area and went there on a regular basis. I'm sorry, but the veggie burger I got was absolutely awful. I feigned being full to not ruin lunch for my friend but when he tasted my burger he thought the same thing. He enjoyed his bacon & jam burger. The apple strudel was very good. The pretzel was just ok and for $17, that's not ok. Honestly, that experience was definitely my last. Also, hardly anything was coming up on the menu and the waiter said that sometimes the full menu doesn't load. Maybe they could have a few non-virtual menus on hand for when that happens. But it looks like they've also done away with waiters- you get your menu from a QR code on the table, and you also open a tab and place your orders with it too. I came on here to see if there were any pictures that they posted of their Halloween costume contest event. And I'm shocked to hear what happened from the other reviewers from that night! I do want to say that I know exactly who that couple was who wrote a review. They were the nicest cutest couple ... we had so much fun dancing with them ... their costumes definitely were the talk of the place that night! If you guys are reading this ... u guys are definitely the winners that night! Hands down! To be honest ... my bf and I did wonder when they were going to announce the costume contest winners ... but we had left after waiting for a couple hrs and nothing was announced. I was meeting family here and decided to scroll through the Yelp reviews prior to my arrival. This made me immediately skeptical of the place as they are mostly negative. So, I wanted to share that I had a very pleasant experience at The Hoboken Biergarten. Like others have said, you order through QR codes and don't have an assigned "waiter". While this is typically bothersome for me, it did not inhibit my experience at all, and instead was quite nice since you can easily put in another beer for yourself whenever it is convenient for you - no waiting around to try and find the waitstaff. The waitstaff that you do interact with are accommodating and friendly. We played it safe and ordered your typical beer garden food and stayed away from some of the odd menu items. Would definitely recommend the giant pretzel, potato pancakes, and bratwurst. This place is fun for all ages and I will definitely be returning. read more
