This is a great southern style buffet. I don't usually like buffets, but after talking to a local patron, I decided to try it. I really enjoyed the fried chicken, and real mashed potatoes. Great little place to eat in Dalton! Buffet full of all the best dishes, from mouth watering fried chicken to delicious sweet potato casserole! The servers were working hard to keep customers happy....very friendly too. The salads were all homemade. I tried the taffy apple salad, potato salad and cole slaw. All great recipes. We chose Chocolate Chess Pie and Key Lime Pie for dessert.... very full but managed to eat every delectable bite! Will go back again to this wonderful establishment. 5 Star!! read more

It's been a few years since my last visit. I must say things are not as I remembered. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Dalton. The southern food has always been great. Did not disappoint! Inside and outside seating on first come first serve. The line moves quickly unless you have a big group. Fried chicken light & crispy. They cut it up uniquely so if you love dark meat you might not find your piece. The creamed corn, green beans, fried okra and squash casserole were all excellent. I did not try the desserts however they were going fast & restocking the whole time so dessert must be good. Downtown Dalton is super cute so plan some time for a walk around the block. read more

This was the only thing open on Sunday morning in town so we decided to come here for breakfast. They don't really offer breakfast foods but the buffet offerings were good. They make the food homemade and without the abundance of butter and salt that you often experience at southern cuisine establishments. That being said, the food is very average as is the price for the buffet at about $14 after tax. If you eat a bunch of meat it's probably a good deal with all of the fried chicken and hams but as we don't eat as much it might just not have been the right type of place for us. Still, between black eyed peas, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, collards, bread rolls, pasta, the aforementioned hams and chicken, and green bean side, we left satisfied and full. Didn't get to try the salads but they didn't look great and dressing offerings are all pre-made packets. On a side, I think they could up their game by providing better beverage choices, besides having mostly just fountain sodas. They could use actual mugs, consider offering fresh juice, and good coffee with fresh milk instead of bitter coffee in styrofoam cups with creamer packets. They have two dining room options. One has a bunch of interesting signage and brick decor and is a bit louder. The other is a open glass room with lots of nice natural lighting and less noise. Where do I start...I have waited for a while to leave this review because I wanted to give a fair overall opinion and not a review based on one visit. However this last visit has caused me to go forward with my review. Pre-covid The filling station was just pretty good and their food was never really hot, just always luke warm(this hasn't changed over the last several years). Before covid there were condiments on the table. Now you get your luke warm food from the buffet line immediately after paying, then you have to find a table, then return to get your drink and then you have to ask one of the very few folks that help with cleaning tables for condiments (Stop acting like we did during covid as an excuse not to have condiments at each table.) After that your food doesn't have a chance to be warm especially when it only starts out luke warm. Then there's the chicken, it's like a box of chocolates, some pieces are tough and inedible and some are edible. Then there's yesterdays snafu. They explained after you paid that one of there fryers went down and that they only have one fryer and asked us to be patient. Seeing how their fried chicken is their main meat it looks like they would have slowed the line down or not let as many folks dine with them as they normally do. But they didn't. They let folks in at the same pace with no chicken on the buffet. So instead of holding the entire line up waiting on chicken we took our vegetables and started eating. It wasn't until we were almost finished with our vegetables that someone came out of the back with chicken which means I had to break in line to get our chicken which means even less chicken for those in line making everyone have to wait even longer. Then a few visits ago I asked one of the employees if they received the tips left at the register since you are asked to leave the tip while prepaying for your meal and they responded by saying that Stephanie (the owner) does not pass them along to the employees. They stated that Stephanie feels that she pays the employees well enough and that Stephanie keeps the tips. Seems to me that over the years that we have been visiting The filling station that the quality and service has gone downhill while the prices continues to rise. Been looking for a good place like this for years.. tons of country buffets out there that are ok most days but this one is outstanding.. the sides are so good I loved everything at the bar. The chicken fingers were fresh and right out of the fryer. The bar is limited but trust me you won't be disappointed. The desserts were so good.. strawberry pie and buttermilk pie amazing! We stumbled across this one by accident. It was crowded on Sunday afternoon, telling me it must be good. It is an old gas station with gas and oil sign decor. We were told upon entering that it was a buffet. That's usually a no go for me. The food was fresh and cooked like mom used to. No seasoning was required. Salad, vegetables, and a choice of meats. I love love love this place! Whenever I stay in Dalton, I make sure to eat here. It is $10 and well worth it. The food is totally good ole Southern and the entrees change by day of week. My fav is the meatloaf but it's all good. Drink choices will satisfy The atmosphere is really casual. You walk in, give the cashier your $10 and grab a plate. Go back as many times as you please. The desserts are just alright and not worth leaving room for so I don't. I've never had to wait very long to get in. The patio seating is nice with a view of small town downtown. This place is a hidden gem in Northwest Georgia. This is not what I was expecting from a buffet style lunch. Everything is prepared fresh daily. My hubby and I ate here for the first time ever on Sunday 11-11-18. The line was backed down the hallway so we thought that was a good sign. A nice, friendly couple standing near the front of the line informed us that the food was worth the wait and the wait isn't usually too long for a table. They were right on both accounts. The price is $12.50 and that includes your drink and 1 dessert. The food was delicious! We both cleaned our plates, but we were too full to go back for seconds. The sweet tea was pretty good, not great but good. I'm not sure what kind of pie I chose from the cooler, but I didn't care for it. Hubby got chocolate pie and it was good. I'm going to go ahead and fully disclose that I am from New England and the idea of having lunch at a place in Dalton, GA called "The Filling Station" didn't exactly give me butterflies. Let me say that this place proved me completely and totally wrong. Since it's only open for three hours a day the food is fresh, fresh, fresh! I'm not a big meat eater and haven't had chicken in a very long time. The second I saw the fried chicken come out I knew it was time to break the streak and I'm so glad I did. Hot damn that's some good Southern eatin'! My favorites also included the cream corn and the mac and cheese - quite possibly some of the best I've ever had. This is one of my very favorite places to eat anywhere. The fried chicken is as good as I've ever had anywhere and I have to get their fried corn and sweet potato soufflé every time I come. It's one of those places where the plates need sideboards so you can keep piling on the food. The desserts are delectable and I usually have a hard time selecting the one I want. They offer sugar free desserts, too, which is a definite plus. You might have to stand in line for a few minutes if you catch them at a busy time, but the Filling Station is well worth the wait. read more
