My husband and I came for an early supper at 4:23pm before heading to church. Tyler was our waiter and was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered an appetizer of Fried Pickles with Ranch dressing which were darn right pretty good. My husband ordered an appetizer of Chips and Salsa. He seemed to enjoy them as well. I tired one, the chips were not hot but they were fresh. The salsa was mild and cold which was fine. We both ordered a sweet tea and never did our glass go empty and it was very good. For dinner I ordered the Sliced pork platter with a side salad and fries. It was delicious. The fries were perfect with a nice crisp to them but not over cooked. I had blue cheese dressing and it was chunky and very tasty. The salad was nice and cold with crisp lettuce. Portion size was good as well. My husband had a BQ chic sandwich with a baked potato. He said it was very good although the skin on the potato was a little over done, but inside was great. For all the food we got the bill was just under $40. We normally don't order any appetizers, that was $14 worth of the bill, but we were splurging. The restaurant is a cute little place and appeared very clean. I did not use the restroom so unsure of that. I would defiantly come again and recommend. read more

The FIrehouse is one of my favorite restaurants in Johnson City. I always try to stop by whenever I am in town. The food is excellent. The service is exceptional! I've had very good service 90% of the times I have been there. The waitstaff is very attentive; even though I probably drink faster than any human on the planet, they somehow always manage keep my drinks filled. That's big to me, because I find that the norm at most restaurants is that the waitstaff brings you your dishes, but then disappears otherwise. While the entrees are good, what really lures me in is the sides. At most restaurants, you're stuck with french fries and that's it. Firehouse has a very full menu of sides including baked potatoes, Tennessee Toast, BBQ beans, cole slaw, hashbrown casserole, and of course, steak fries. I definitely recommend the Firehouse and would rank it amongst my top 5 favorite restaurants in Johnson City. read more

Firehouse BBQ has been around for many years. Only one restaurant, not a chain. The owner, Tom, is usually around the office which I believe is still located on premise. BBQ is very good and I have BBQ from many, many states. Red sauce is one of my favorites and the beans are in the top 3 I have ever had. The restaurant is actually in an old fire station so the atmosphere is real. Give it a try. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

I was passing through Johnson City, TN on a business trip and decided that I wanted to try a non-chain, local bbq restaurant. I found myself at The Firehouse, and boy was that a great decision. First of all the staff is top notch. From the moment I walked in the door until the moment I left I felt genuine hospitality and kindness. Then there is the food. Absolutely awesome bbq. I have tried many a brisket and theirs is right up there with the best of them! The brisket sandwich was to die for and the hash brown casserole was excellent. I also love that they have both vinegar based and tomato based bbq sauce. A South Carolina native who resides in North Carolina can certainly appreciate having both options! And they were both tasty! On top of awesome food and people, the place itself is a cool little piece of history, and the staff is more than willing to show you pictures and tell you the story of the original firehouse that the restaurant added on to. As a traveler and lover of history this was the icing on the cake. I love that so many aspects of the firehouse were preserved and are evident through the restaurant. This place is top notch. Filled with excellent people and an outstanding environment. If I ever pass through the area again there is no question where I am stopping to grab some bbq! read more

The bbq was really good as were the fries. My husband wasn't fond of the beans. Overall very satisfied with our meals.

The pimento cheese appetizer was just the right amount of spice. The beef brisket was amazing and the sauce had a nice sweet flavor. Our server Brittany was very prompt, friendly and made great recommendations. Lots of food so bring your appetite. read more

Just had lunch and writing this in hopes the manager will see what the kitchen was up to. The service was prompt and the food quality was good with the exception of the soup of the day which was brisket vegetable. The ingredients were barely recognizable, the beef was long and stringy (should have been chopped) and the flavor was bland. The bbq chicken salad & pulled chicken sandwich were very good. The issue was the kitchen. My husband asked if chicken could be substituted for the pulled pork in the pork stuffed potato and was told no. To make it more offensive, the kitchen told our server that he could order pulled chicken and a baked potato and he could put the chicken on the potato himself! Seriously?? So I asked if I could have chicken instead of pork on the nachos and was also told no. The only feasible reason for that is someone in the kitchen being a jackwagon. It's not like we asked for anything crazy. The manager needs to have a talk with whoever wasn't willing to do such small things to please the customer. Otherwise I would have given them four stars. I took my boyfriend to this restaurant for the first time on Dec 1st. It was his birthday, and hes a fireman and we had never been there before so I thought it would be a good time. Well, upon entering the place looked great! We were met by nice staff. We were then asked if we minded to sit upstairs. Well we had never been before so we didnt know any better. And i really should have just said no. Im 9 months pregnant, and the staff probably should have taken that into consideration...So we went upstairs. The experience was dissapointing. We were in a small room with too many tables, too many loud people, it echoed to the point where we felt like we were sitting at someone elses table and we could not even hear eachother talk. The tables were horrible and there was a lean in the floor that made the table lean. We were highly dissapointed with it. The food was ok. The steak was very fatty though. Portions were a good size and price was good for what you get. The staff was very friendly. The bathroom upstairs is HORRIBLE. You can barely fit in where the toilet is, and the door has NO LOCK and keeps opening when u r in it. There is only ONE toilet and it is a unisex bathroom. After we were done, we walked back downstairs....which made us more dissapointed because the downstairs is so nice, and has nice tables. We will probably try to go there one more time, but will eat DOWNSTAIRS. Hopefully this will change our opinion about the place. Just wish we coulda had a better time for his birthday! read more

I have never had anything but good experiences here! Great service and fantastic food! The bbq is smoked to perfection and their sauces make add to an already great meal. I went here for the first time on the fourth of July and was very pleased with the taste and the price. However, it took very long to get our food. We waited forever and it wasn't busy at all. We had the firehouse nachos, turkey reuben and pulled pork platter. The reuben was soggy probably from sitting and waiting on other food to get done, but we ate it and still give them five stars. So in general it was good, prices were great and we will give them one more try. read more

It is clean, the waitstaff's "chipper", decorative posters and chotchkes are relevant, and the figurines of Dalmatians are certainly plentiful... BUT: 3rd-rate BBQ (not-real) at a top-tier price, but right off ETSU campus with a captive clientele of kids who are taste-morons and their parents "visiting for the weekend". So, 'round here, it's worth the gas to drive up to The Ridgewood if one wants bbq, which I did, and which "they say" on their radio ads The Firehouse does with some reknown. Everything was utterly bland... the "southern-style" slaw needed salt, pepper, vinegar, and sugar... not to mention celery seeds... I guess the 4 specks of red cabbage mixed into the rest of the white was supposed to make it "seem to have flavor", but its saving grace for one with a Depression mentality (clean your plate) was that for $1.89 The Firehouse gives you about one-fourth as much as The Ridgewood (which has VERY good slaw, albeit celery-seedless).... the "pulled Carolina pork" was more like it had been pulled out of the mouth of someone who'd already been chewing on it for 3-4 minutes... thank gawd for the two squeezebottles of sauce... anything with a last breath of "life" was most welcome The $1.89 "steak fries" were nothing but plate-filler, dumped frozen from a bag... happily I'd requested my serving to be done extra-brown/crispy When "the lovely"... (REALLY) Felicia-the-waitress asked "how everything was" I asked "Who's in the kitchen cooking today... Michelle Obama ?" Tim had a hamburger-steak with grilled onions... This is my favorite place to eat. I've never had bad food or bad service. Only problem is deciding what I want to order. Love it. Best beans ever. I've had about everything on the menu and you can't go wrong with any of it. I love their salad. Not sure what's different, but this is tops. I like ranch and they have delicious ranch dressing. We tried to plan our family holiday dinner at the Firehouse this year. We called a day before to let them know we had 30 people in our party and would like to come around 4 pm. When we arrived they were still setting up our tables which is fine. However, we were seated in two separate dining rooms. We did not expect to all be seated at the same table but with us living in different states wanted to be seated at least in the same dining room. When we questioned the manager and the general manager we were told that was the best they could do and neither would even try to accommodate us or offer any solution. They said it wouldn't fit their "strategy". We left and went to another restaurant that was happy to seat us all in one dining area and helped turn what would've been a total disaster into a great family experience. Sorry, Firehouse, you certainly fell short in the customer service area and also missed a lot of "big" tips as well! read more
