Amazing atmosphere tucked away in quiet Ellison Bay. A wide menu that doesn't try to do too much and delivers on every item we've tried. My family got the Chicken & Waffles, Stuffed Trout and Ceasar Salad, and everything was prepared to perfection. The large, stone fireplace really added to the atmosphere and made for a pleasant dining experience. We've been coming to Door County for two decades, so we definitely have our favorites picked out, but this is definitely going to be a repeat! The true bright spot here, however, is the service. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and personable. The owner came out and had a conversation with us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Everyone from the girl greeting us as we walked in the door who sat us to the bartender telling us to have a good night was incredible. Everyone in my party liked what they had, but I ordered the shaved prime rib sandwich and was disappointed. It was composed of only the crusty hard parts of prime rib, like maybe the parts that no one else wanted...? Maybe that's how it's supposed to be, but when I think of prime rib, I imagine rare, juicy tender prime rib, but I didn't enjoy my sandwich and brought half home. The salad was great and so were the gator bites, but my main course was not at all how I imagined it would be, so unfortunately, I couldn't give more than 3 stars. Atmosphere and drinks were great. Went here because it's one of the few places on yelp that has a high rating. The place is nice on the inside, very friendly staff and inviting atmosphere. We ordered the lobster and andouille hush puppies and they were pretty amazing. The best part of our meal. We then ordered the jambalaya and andouille mac. Both were pretty good, but at the same time didn't blow us away. I would recommend, but I don't think I'd be stopping back if I was in the area. read more

We stopped in on a whim with a toddler and a 4 month old on a Monday evening. Food was great, highly recommend the chicken and waffles, calamari, and the ribs!! So wonderful! We didn't make a reservation, but we chose to eat dinner at the bar, and that helped make the dinner great. It got really busy, but our bartenders were really attentive and we stayed well-hydrated. My boyfriend and I shared the Parmesan Truffle Fries, and that was just a fantastic way to start the meal. (After a great mojito and Ol' Fashioned.) My boyfriend gave rave reviews of the chicken and waffles, while my half Caesar salad and roasted chicken noodle (soup of the day) were simply wonderful. My husband and I took a chance and went to the Fireside for our 8th anniversary. When we looked at the menu, my husband asked me if I wanted to leave. "We'll just have a drink and go" he said. I said, no let's give them a chance. The menu was a combination of southern and New Orleans cuisine with a little Caribbean on the side. We started with little neck clams and they were delicious. My husband had the cherry bbq baby back ribs and I had the Jamaican pork chop dinner. We were just blown away by how good the food was. My husband & I were planning a long weekend in Door County and I wanted our first night to be special so I did a bit of research and found The Fireside Restaurant and made reservations (not realizing until we drove up to it that it used to be Pasta Vino, which we had been to on our honeymoon 4 years ago). We had such a nice experience there. Their staff is really lovely and the owner........she seems fantastic. She did that classy move where she stopped briefly at each table to check in and get feedback (as they've only been there a year and want to keep improving). They are proud of what they're doing and I support that. Mary was our server of awesomeness, as I called her. She was top notch. I ordered the French Onion Braised Meatloaf and my husband got the Toasted Mushroom Lasagna. Mary was very supportive saying those were 2 of her favorite menu items. The lasagna was beautiful, full of bright colors and balanced flavors, very fresh and satisfying (love those crispy corners). The meatloaf was a sight to see, a beautiful tower of meaty, potatoy, onion tangley goodness. The richness of the meat (which included brisket, my favorite) was paired perfectly with very light and fluffy garlic mashed potatoes over a chorizo stuffing. I loved this meal! And topping it off with onion tangles just made me so happy. Looking back, that only thing I would want to change about my dinner was the au jus in the bottom of the platter. It was far too sweet for my taste and there was just too much of it so the resulting effect was that the chorizo stuffing was quite soggy and very sweet. But that was easy to avoid and the bulk of the dish was truly delicious. Then came dessert, which I wasn't even really interested in, but my husband ordered their key lime dessert and thank goodness for small favors because wow! It was the best key lime dessert of my life! The top had been torched (bruleed if you will) so it was warm AND cold all at the same time. The graham cracker crust was just right and the key lime sauce on the plate was pure genius. The only sad part was that it was so very tiny that sharing caused it to end too quickly for our liking. The salmon was burnt in areas, the smashed potatoes were dry and the asparagus was undercooked. Overall dinner was just okay. The cherry crumble dessert was difficult to eat due to the tiny serving container and one of the staff felt the need to shout at me from another table. 5 Stars, not because it's expensive (it's not), or exclusive (I'd call it inclusive), although Blake is so good he could easily accomplish both, but 5 Stars because this place is phenomenal! We keep a very short list of "must eats", for our 2 weeks in DC every year (so we can visit new places, of course), but this place easily became a "must". They have hush puppies, my favorite puppy, they're super good and the gator app is superb! Both are "must haves" every visit. Lauren is a tremendous working owner, easy to talk too, vet friendly and always making sure each guest is happy. The andouille that they source is serious andouille! In both their jambalaya and the adult Mac n cheese (also available in vegetarian as per my daughters new found choice). Now, about those grits... some of the best grits north of the Mason-Dixon, and being originally southern, ive had my fair share. It should be available with every dish! Finally, the Key Lime Brûlée... words almost escape me... Mrs. Moynihan (of former the Firehouse, Boca Raton) would definitely either approve or be totally jealous, it's just fantastic. This place is so very definitely recommended when you're up here. Reasonably priced, great for families, and fabulous food. Beautiful bar and restaurant. Some of the best food and service I had while in Door County. Portions are huge and the food amazing - a modern take on the traditional supper club. The pork belly confit was by far my favorite, but everything was great. During our visits we tried, the pork belly, chicken and waffles, pork chops, and the ribs. The lobster and andouille hush puppies came as a side with the ribs and I liked them so much we ordered a side on the next visit. We particularly enjoyed sitting at the bar - an amazing view of the bay and great conversation with the owner/bar tender and some of the locals. I was excited to eat at Fireside again, have having a great food experience this past winter with their Squash Ravioli. Tonight I had the Sesame Ginger Kale Salad, and was surprised to find that the kale wasn't "massaged", as you usually do to kale to make it easier to digest- a common practice with all kale salads. Not only did I have to break out the plastic gloves at the dinner table to do it myself, but the amount of oil/dressing on the salad left a puddle at the bottom of my Togo container. Nice location and food was pretty good. My only complaint was the person who greeted us (hostess? Owner?) was very rude. She thought our reservation was for the following evening and seemed irritated that we were there when we were. We only had to wait 15 minutes for a table- which was fine, but when she came to get us in the bar area, she quickly walked by us with a handful of dirty glassware and told us our table was ready and then hastily seated us, again like we were an inconvenience. Ordering barbecue ribs in Wisconsin is risky. So much disappointment. Not so at The Fireside Restaurant located in (of all places) Ellison Bay. Their cherry barbecue ribs are an amazing entree with a unique Door County twist. The meat is perfectly cooked in a cherry barbecue sauce, topped with a fresh fruity salsa. I started eating the full rack and couldn't stop until nothing but a pile of bones remained! So flavorful with not even one bite overdone. My wife had the vegetarian meatloaf which (to a carnivore like me) sounds scary. But this entree too was a pleasantly surprising and creative take on a comfort food classic. Oh, and don't be scared off by the "Cajun" element here. My wife's sensitive Norwegian tongue did not suffer in the least. The ambience has a casual north woods, supper clubby feel. When you drive up outside of this restaurant, you will see it affixed to a motel. Had we not tried their Jambalaya at the Door County Beerfest, we probably would have passed by. Even when you walk in, it feels a little divey. Don't let any of this fool you. The food is phenomenal and deserves a full five stars. They specialize in Cajun fare, and they put a number of New Orleans restaurants to shame. On our menu was the jambalaya (perfect), lobster and andouille hush puppies, and shrimp and grits. Everything was cooked to perfection. The shrimp were tender and flavorful, the grits were creamy smooth with the goat cheese in it. Our kids loved their food too and are it up. We had great service and one of the co-owners came over just to say thank you for coming in, which was a nice touch. In conclusion, we will not hesitate to go back. It may be out of the way if you are in Baileys Harbor or Fish Creek, but it is so worth the trip. read more

Excellent ALL YOU CAN EAT fish fry. The fish was perfect, they gave you three big pieces, so I didn't need to order more. The fries were a pleasant surprise at how tasty they were, but the cole slaw was dry. I'm more of creamy cole slaw guy. There were so many other menu intems my wife and I wanted to try that looked good at other tables, but ultimately couldn't pass up the fish. The bread was so so. The atmosphere was your typical Wisconsin supper club. If the fish and fries weren't so good, this would be a 3 star review because the bread and cole slaw was not that great, but I didn't come here for that. read more

My husband and I were visiting Door County for summer vacation/ anniversary trip. My husband talked me into going here because he really wanted the Chicken and Waffles. Chef Blake did not let us down. My husband did get the Chicken and Waffles and he loved it. (warning: it is a lot of food!) I ordered the Shrimp and Goat Cheese Grits, it was also awesome. I loved the fresh veggies that were integrated into the dish (wilted spinach, cherry tomatoes and corn). It seemed as if many dishes on the menu utilized local Door County ingredients. We made a reservation via Yelp and were seated immediately when we arrived. Our server was wonderful and explained the menu and specials very well. Our family of 5 stopped for dinner on a cold, rainy Saturday evening. The current location in Ellison Bay is attached to an old-style motel, and at first glance we weren't sure we were in the right place. But we walked into a warmly lit, paneled space with a fire blazing. Our server Damien was fantastic, and quickly served up a great version of the ubiquitous Wisconsin old fashioned. Our 3 teenage boys were starving and we all wound up ordering something from the signature menu. Two jambalayas, a chicken and waffle, shrimp and grits, and southwest andouille Mac. Hubs and teen2 ordered the jambalaya-not too hot but well seasoned, with plentiful sausage, shrimp and chicken. Teen1 ate his southwest Mac so quickly I could hardly get a taste. :). It was phenomenal-he scraped the plate clean. Teen3 really enjoyed a huge portion of chicken -2 large, perfectly fried breasts and a waffle that covered the plate. Teen1 gladly finished what Teen3 couldn't manage Teen1 asked if we could come back so he could order chicken and waffles, next. My shrimp and grits was excellent-plenty of plump shrimp, creamy grits with garlic, spinach and goat cheese. Heaven. Highly recommend the Fireside!
