My wife and I are spending a week in Door County and this was our first night out. The Fireside was a great choice. After starting with the amazing Andoulie Hush Puppies, we knew we were in the right place to eat. This appetizer had an incredible chipotle aoli sauce. There was a lot of heft to them and they were really tasty. We shared two entries, splitting a special of swordfish with quinoa and their signature Jambalaya. Both were outstanding. The portion of the swordfish seemed a bit small, but it was cooked to perfection. Also, the quinoa had a kind of pico degallo-like mixture that really worked. Although the server didn't recommend it, we felt compelled to order the jambalaya because the general Cajun theme seemed to indicate this would be a natural option. Although the lack of a recommendation made me a bit nervous, it was also fantastic. The seasoning had great kick and the shrimp, sausage and other meats blended into a savory winner of a dish. However, I do want to be clear about this, our server was great. Attentive without being obtrusive and very friendly. The management were asking how things were and also seemed attentive, friendly, and appreciative of our business. Since we visited during COVID, they were only seating outside. We had a nice table with an umbrella and very good service, I was disappointed in the cheese curd appetizer - small and nothing special. The wedge salad was also disappointing. However, the butternut squash ravioli, the chicken feta florentine and pork belly entrees were all really good. We ordered the shrimp and grits, jambalaya and beignets. The shrimp and goat grits was just okay.. the grits was my favorite however i think the shrimp needs major improvements. More flavor and more of the veggies there was like 2 corn kernels and very little spinach etc.. i would have liked a saucy shrimp over grits i think that would be a great take on this dish. Now the jambalaya was way too smoky.. too heavy on the paprika i would suggest going easy that but again just an ok dish not worth the hype. Honestly the highlight of the dinner was the orange soaked beignets they were 2 huge pillowy dough filled beignets that we enjoyed thoroughly. Wish there was an option for just the regular ones though. I don't think I'd come back if the same meals were on the menu. read more

The food was good though I'd like to see more light dinner options. There are two salads that can have protein added, but that's it for lighter fare. Wine list is good. The staff members all were very nice. It is a vibrant atmosphere, so be prepared for some noise but it was not overwhelming. This place only takes reservations for a party of 5 or more. Expect to have a long wait during peak hours for dinner. The pub area is open on a gust come first serve basis and serves the exact same menu. It is more louder in the pub area. If you want a more refined atmosphere wait for your table. The chicken pot pie had a nice buttery crust. Tons of chicken pieces and season just right with a nice mix of carrots and peas. Just wish that there was crust all around instead of a layer on top. The butcher block steak had a nice presentation. Steak was tender and flavorful. Overall had a nice dinner. The hostess and servers were super friendly. read more

If in Door County this restaurant should not be missed. First of all it's uber cool between the pub, the bar, the SPOT shop next door, the bagel shop on the other side and of course FIRESIDE restaurant. Like, who even needs another excuse to go? You don't! Just. Do. It! Everything on the menu is a Yes Please May I have one! But who can eat one of everything? No one. So go multiple times and bask in the deliciousness of Fireside. I personally am a Wedge Salad girl. Is it a downfall? Possibly. I should get an entree but if there is a wedge I have to order it. If there is a Salmon option I have to add it. However, I did partake in the entrees ordered at my table and Yowza! My mouth said YUM! Lobster Mac with visible lobster chunks. As it should be. Moist. Creamy. And savory. I would have liked to see a larger portion considering it is Mac and Cheese which is a super cheap fish to make outside of the lobster. It's not enough food for a grown man, in my opinion, but works for the ladies. So order an appetizer if you order this dish. Shrimp and Grits! Nice and heavy and perfectly seasoned. Again. I hate to be a naysayer given all the exceptional reviews ... and maybe because it's the off-season, the regular chefs are off ... who knows? But this place was a disappointment. First, we waited for a table in the lounge area. A glass of wine and an old-fashioned took about 20 minutes. In fact, by the time the drinks were ready, so was the table. We were told later the bartender didn't usually work Saturdays. Hmm .. Our table was nice and our server was friendly. I liked that she graciously thanked us for coming out (I assume she was alluding to Covid). It felt heartfelt. But the service plummeted from there. We ordered the lobster and andouille hush puppies, which were too big and nearly burnt. I couldn't taste any lobster, just a mouthful of cornbread that had a nice hint of spice. Four of these giant blobs of deep fried decadence was WAY too much for an appetizer, so instead of ordering what we originally planned, we opted to go lighter. My bf ordered the Caesar salad with shrimp and I opted for the wedge with shrimp. While we waited, we finished our drinks and water and sat for about 20 minutes with empty glasses (and empty appetizer plates). They may have been short-staffed because a woman wearing what looked like a bright pink housedress (remember those!?) started waiting tables and asking (loudly) other staffers if they needed help. It all just seemed terribly unprofessional for what was supposed to be one of Door County's "finer" spots on a Saturday night. When the food arrived, I was disappointed. I'd expected a sizable chunk of iceberg lettuce, which, to my mind, is the traditional "wedge" salad. In fact, I was served a small chunk of lettuce, two cherry tomatoes, bacon bits and a splash of bleu cheese dressing with four undercooked and cold shrimp. My bf's salad, however, was decent with a generous portion of well-cooked, well-seasoned salmon. I rarely complain at restaurants, especially these days, but the server asked and I answered that my salad was disappointing. She offered to bring me something else, which wasn't necessary, but she ended up covering our drinks (about $16). I tipped 20% because that's what I do, but I can't recommend it and I won't be back. read more

For a weekend trip to door county, we came to Fireside twice and loved pretty much everything we ordered. Some highlights- camel tenderloin, first time eating camel meat and it was phenomenal! The bbq ribs are seasoned with cherry glaze- I normally don't like BBQ sauce but this one bring that dish to another level. My husband tried the pork belly and loved that as well. Three bordering on four - I'd like to try again with in person dining. We ordered take out from Fireside for dinner our first night in Egg Harbor. It was ready promptly and the order filled correctly and completely. Everyone agreed that their meals were very good. The breading on my southern fried chicken sandwich was very tasty, but not fully cooked through in spots that left it hard to tell what was breading and what was maybe a fattier piece of chicken as it was dark meat. The tomato bisque could have used a bit of salt. Otherwise, we enjoyed the burgers and the jambalaya and would get both again. The portions are huge - which does somewhat support the price of each entree. It closes in on $20 for a sandwich and fries. read more

We've visited Fireside back when they were in Ellison Bay, and we enjoyed our meal then, but this second visit was really very very good. We ordered out for curbside pick-up. We ordered at 5 p.m., and our dinner was delivered to our car at 5:30--exactly when they said it would be ready. Everything was well packaged and was definitely warm when we got it home; although, "home" for this week is Sister Bay, both dishes needed a quick "nuke" to be pipping hot--but that's not the restaurant's fault at all (we got stuck behind a van that never went above 20 miles). My husband order Chicken Feta Florentine which came with two sizable boneless chicken breasts and pearled couscous flecked with tomatoes and onions. He kindly offered me his second bite, which was a good thing, as he then commenced to polish off his plate. The chicken was very moist and flavorful, as was the couscous. If he had any complaint, it was that it disappeared far too quickly. I ordered the Monterey Shrimp and Goat Cheese Grits. I grew up in Kentucky and spent time in Mississippi and North Carolina. I know from grits. These are way fancier than the shrimp and grits I had in those places--and far more interesting and tasty. That is to say, there were a lot of shrimp in the dish (I didn't count--I was an English major). They were big, plump, and incredibly tender--which is an amazing feat when you think we're more than a few miles away from any ocean. They sat on a bed of creamy grits, with red and yellow cherry tomatoes and caramelized onions. My god they were slap-your-mama good. I could have easily had leftovers, but I ate all of those shrimp and my husband polished off the grits. Because of COVID, we were not comfortable having dinner at the restaurant, though, it seemed that the service was outside. Additionally, all the servers, the host, etc. were masked and the tables were spread apart--so if one is looking to have dinner there and does not have health concerns, the restaurant is doing its part. Had we had dinner there, we definitely would have had dessert and more than likely wine as well. The flourless chocolate cake still seems like the one that got away, so I guess we'll need to go back--again and again. read more

Fireside is amazing. This weekend on our visit we came twice and had the Maytag Bleu Steak Tower, a special which was Camel and then special NY strip and salmon. All were incredible. The Maytag is a must. The hush puppies appetizer is fabulous. For dessert there is a captain crunch deep fried cheese cake which I don't even know what to say. It's absolutely delicious. We decided to visit the Fireside Restaurant "Door County's Cajun Supper Club," after reading the glowing reviews here on Yelp. And Yelpers, you got it right! The restaurant is adjacent to a hotel. It's big, roomy and beautiful with high ceilings and - of course - a raging fireplace. We were greeted enthusiastically and were made to feel right at home. Our server, Melissa, was cheerful, helpful, and friendly. The food was really, really good. Lori ordered the Bourbon Sriracha Salmon, which she loved. I ordered the Way Beyond "Meatloaf," a vegetarian option. Both orders came with asparagus and was served atop roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Totally Cajun comfort food, totally filling, and totally excellent! Thanks for the recommendations, Yelp! We'll be returning to the Fireside before too long, I think! read more

This was by and far the best meal we had in all of door county and we could not be more excited to rave about it and return! We left Sturgeon Bay because we couldn't find a halfway decent place to eat, so stumbling upon this place and having it absolutely blow us away was one of the highlights of our trip. Everyone at the restaurant was extremely friendly and while it might not seem like a kid friendly place, they do have a kids menu offering and we're accommodating to our toddler. Our entrées included the shrimp and goat cheese grits as well as the butternut squash ravioli. Both of them absolutely melted in our mouth and we instantly became wide-eyed in awe of the fantastic flavor. Both dishes were selected because they did not contain dairy, which is great for my allergy, and we were so impressed. My husband and I had dinner there last night, I had the salmon and it was very good, my husband had the so called prime rib; which was very tough, a third of it was tough meat another third was gristle and fat that a steak knife could not cut, maybe a third was tender enough to enjoy. Waitress came by and asked how we liked our meal. I said fine my husband mentioned the problem with the prime rib-not sure if it was prime rib because of the toughness,he felt it was a steak not prime rib, she suggested he should try the other end- which he had already tried and it also was tough and gristle, so In order to get to the center 2/3 had to be cut away. This restaurant has great food and we felt very safe dining in their outdoor seating area. All the food we tried was excellent-the Chicken Biscuit Sliders, the Goat Cheess Apricots, the Jambalaya, and the side of Goat Cheese Grits. The chicken on my Summer Berry Salad was the only exception as it was pretty bland-but the salad itself was great-perfectly dressed and a good amount of fruit. I tried a Door County Cherry Mule too which was tasty as well. The cheesecake was delicious! Service was very friendly and good. Staff were wearing masks and they were clearly putting in effort to make everything clean and safe-wiping down menus, having signs for when tables had been sanitized, hand sanitizer out in multiple spots. Very nice restaurant in Egg Harbor, across from the brewery. We stopped in for early dinner for two on July 4th, and were immediately seated with no reservation. The dining room was pretty much empty, at that time. It started to fill up later on, as we were finishing. We shared a full wedge salad, which was delicious, and I had a cup of the beer cheese soup of the day. It was very good, but very heavy. I ordered the southwest mac, which was also very heavy, so I wasn't able to finish it. My wife had a vegetarian option the stuffed pepper, which was delicious and she enjoyed very much. read more

What an interesting place - there's a very casual bar side with a pool table and loud TVs and also a much more refined side with a stone fireplace that provides a much more elegant ambiance. We had dinner right next to the fireplace on a Sunday evening around 6pm and I'd say we had the best seats in the house. The meal was delicious and I'd go so far as to say it was in the top 10 meals I have ever had in Wisconsin. Our server, Tammy, greeted us pretty promptly given how busy they were and let us know about the specials. I asked her if the butternut squash ravioli we were thinking of ordering had any dairy in it and because she did not know for sure, she went to go check for me. I always appreciate when a server doesn't just pretend like they know for the sake of their pride. I'd also asked if there was any dairy in the Tuscan chicken and rice soup (the soup of the day) and she assured me that after she'd checked, there was not. Once she brought the complimentary rosemary focaccia bread...I think that's what it was, at least (which was delicious in it's own - the perfect texture and buoyancy)...to our table she did let me know that the kitchen does spread butter on it. I hadn't even asked about that (because butter is not a big deal to me), yet she was anticipating my needs because I'd previously asked about dairy. It's simple things like that that can really enhance a dining experience for me. To eat, we shared the soup and salad combo ($8) and the ravioli I listed above ($19). The salad we got was the fireside salad and my only complaint about that was it was too heavy on the corn and onions for me. The soup was the one I noted above; it was amazing and I'm not even a big soup lover generally. One complaint about that was I wish it had come out about 5-10 degrees hotter; if I'm eating soup I'd like it to be served piping hot. Both very good nonetheless. My favorite part of the meal, however, was definitely the ravioli. I've had this exact dish a handful of other places and this one held its own. The flavors are just to die for and I wish I could bottle up the smell alone and turn it into a fall candle. The whole meal was the perfect way to welcome fall and colder temps. I could have done with a bit less oil in the bottom of the dish but it wasn't enough of a drawback to take away stars. The ambiance overall (in the fireplace side of the restaurant) was pretty nice but could use a little help. I liked the fireplace, the layout, and the giant leaning mirror but felt the rest could be spruced up a bit. There's a big armoire in the main dining area whose doors stay open for diners to see all of their supplies - to go boxes, napkins, straws, etc. It looks pretty tacky and takes away from the 'fine dining atmosphere' I think they are trying to create. As does the 'kids corner' full of toys/distractions/etc. I think it could be hidden much better. In short, I would give 4.5 stars if I could but this place far surpassed my expectations for a little restaurant in small town WI (I'm not from here) and I would definitely come back and recommend it to others. read more

This is a relatively new restaurant in Egg Harbor (moved from Ellison Bay). Super-friendly owner and very creative menu. While we didn't try Camel Medallion, it's going to be found on more and more U.S. restaurants in the coming years. I had an excellent Chicken Feta Florentine and my wife ordered Jambalaya (the chef worked in New Orleans for a while). The growing reputation of this place needs to be watched. read more

I had a genuinely five-star worthy dinner at The Fireside Restaurant, and while it wasn't what I imagine the typical evening out here looks like I have to gloat about it a bit. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? For a bit of background, my Dad and his twin brother turned sixty-five recently, and they got together the owner of The Fireside to put on a five course "tasting menu" for the birthday dinner. That being the case, we let the chef run wild with what he wanted to cook up and serve, and he put us in the semi-private room for our evening. It was a wonderful experience, and walkthroughs of the dishes by the chef and his wife was the real highlight. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? At the end of the evening our five course tasting menu had enough food to feed each of us twice, and even with booze we got out of there for just shy of $100 per person. That's insanely affordable for what we got. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? It's rare that I find such a wide range of dishes so well executed, but the chef threw out pork belly and noodle dishes, a beef wellington, and cafe du monde inspired beignets as though they were easy to dish up. Wonderful. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? If a normal visit to The Fireside Restaurant is anything like our specialty dinner was, I'd come here each and every day.
