Great food. Changing menu. Great staff. Not sure how this place is so good and the other two places the owners have stinks.

While visiting my friends, they recommended First Post as one of their favorite places to eat out. I'm a bit jealous that I'm so far but find comfort in the fact that it won't be the last time as I'll likely push for us to eat here on future visits to York!! Our server, Laurie, was one of the kindest, most attentive servers I've had in a while. I cannot commend her enough, anyone she spoke with could see she's a genuine people person, the management hopefully know how wonderful it is to have her! We ordered clams for an appetizer, and cups of French onion soup, which were delicious. For my entrée I chose to go for the chopped greek salad and let me tell you it's the best salad I've ordered, simple as that! To me, what really stuck out was the warm halloumi cheese, and the crispy filo because it captured the drizzle of honey. I enjoyed my salad to the fullest and also tried a bit of the cream cheese croutons from my friend's chicken caesar salad which I've never seen done before, a game changer in my book! Looking forward to visiting again soon, and I recommend grabbing a chocolate mint on your way out. Hadn't seen them before and they were phenomenal. read more

Happy hour goes to 5:30 pm - but you have to sit at the bar, FYI. Decent craft beer selection on draft. Honey lavender cider sounds odd, but is crisp and delicious with good flavor. It does not taste like chewing flowers, just yummy cider beer. Loved the winter warmer brown ale by Lancaster brewing. Lots of yummy caramel flavor in that one. Blackened scallop pasta came with a Caesar salad and it was okay. Bread was soft , pillowy and warm - worth a cheat day. Scallops were excellent - cooked to perfection, flavorful, and served atop a very creamy sauce with a homemade pasta. Fish and chips were a generous portion, nice and crispy fish with crispy and perfectly seasoned fries. Service was expedient enough to be good but not rushed. First things first - food and drinks were delicious. I wish I could remember the names of the two cocktails we got, but they were amazing! When we finished those, we switched and got two different glasses of wine which were also tasty. For our appetizer we got the seared tuna, and have no complaints - perfectly cooked tuna with delicious sauces! For our entrees, we got Fish and Chips and the Crab & Corn Fettuccini. The fish and chips meal was slightly above average but nothing to write home about. However, the Crab and Corn Fettuccini was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! The corn was so fresh and sweet, and the amount of jumbo lump crab in the pasta was honestly insane. To top it off, it had the perfect amount of sauce - just enough to coat the pasta but not too heavy or overbearing. I could eat that meal over and over! The atmosphere/decor was great and added to the experience. Parking lot is huge which I appreciate. The reason I knocked off a star is for the service. Our waiter was attentive but a little rude/condescending at times which just made the night a bit less special. We tried to ask about food recommendations between 2 choices, we were flatly told he didn't like either. Tried to ask for a house wine and/or wine recommendations to go with our meal, we were told he doesn't drink wine and couldn't help with suggesting what to get. When we asked for a house white, he scoffed and asked which one as if we were supposed to know what house wines they have. As we were wrapping up our meal, we noticed he gave the table next to us bread after they ordered and had never even offered it to us. Overall, when I am spending $100+ on date night I expect the service to be great, better than the typical restaurant, and it just was not. With that said, I would return because the food/drinks were delicious - I would just hope we got a different server. read more

This is the first time we have been to the First Post and did not receive excellent service. We had to ask our waitress about the specials, she was quite slow in her service. Handed my wife her can of high noon, with no glass or straw. Totally unacceptable. We were quite disappointed with her service, but the customer right behind us had a wonderful server. The food, however, was top notch. We just hope the next time we visit, we will get a waiter or waitress like we have had in the past. read more

Valentines at the First Post. The food is priced at the higher end. They were very busy but the service was still spot on. The food was delicious and everything was cooked properly. I highly recommend reservations on the weekends and holidays like Valentines Day and Mothers Day. I had the surf and turf and the steak melted in your mouth. My husband had the filet mignon and it was excellent. We were in the area and decided to try this restaurant. We were seated right away in the dining room. I waitress was average nothing over impressive. We ordered the crab dip, burger and fish/chips. Another great recommendation led us to this spot for a big work dinner. We were pretty hungry and took advantage of the oyster specials on this Tuesday. We also ordered some drinks to start- they had a great beer list. Though the service was pretty slow, the food made up for it. I wanted to order a salmon salad, but they didn't have it available so I changed my order to the ahi tuna salad. This was delicious and fresh. The first time the wife and I visit, I ordered beer, and my wife got the first post punch. It came surprisingly quick, cold beer, and a great mixed drink, very sweet, not my style, but she loved it. Then, we had the shrimp tempura starter. It was amazing. I ordered the pasta and crab (night special) Spring salad with vinaigrette was fresh and tangy. The pasta was like a foratini pasta, perfectly cooked, not overcooked, like most places do it. The crab and vegetables mixed nincely, it wasn't over sauced. Wife ordered the meatloaf. Glazed BBQ and wrapped in bacon with a side of mashed potatoes, wonderfully cooked and presented, wife was very happy with it. Shared a creme Brulee for desert, So good it hit the spot twice. The service was fenominal and prompt,im very picky about restaurants. I feel like if you're going to walk into a restaurant and hand them your money, they should care about what they do. We first checked out First Post for lunch awhile back. Our first time there was amazing! Sam is an awesome server (muscular guy) and I had the Post Burger and my wife had the Chicken Salad. The complimentary rolls were delicious, as were our entries. The ambience was also very refined. Perfect for a casual meal. This place would be perfect for a date night or special occasion, but you'd better have reservations. We did not, but it was lunch and we arrived after 2:00 pm, so no worries in that regard. For the main lunch hour, it's probably advised to call ahead, just in case. For our second visit a month later, luck of the draw gave us a rather odd experience. The server (not Sam) was also a bit odd in his behavior and he annoyed my wife with not listening to her requests and sometimes ignored her altogether it seemed. She had asked for lemons for her water and he made a production of presenting them to us after missing them the first time. We had to ask for water refills because it felt like he was somewhat ignoring the obvious even when we placed empty glasses on the edge of the table as he walked bay. It appeared like he was more interested in pursuing higher tips from other tables than in our basic order of a burger and salad. My wife located a manager when she went to wash up afterwards because she was really annoyed, to put it mildly. The manager personally brought us a complimentary dessert to go and only then did the server come over to apologize to us. As stated previously, it was a very odd experience, unlike anything we've ever experienced in the past or anywhere else for that matter. I had expected better from a place like FP. We had originally considered making FP part of our regular rotation of eateries, but this weird experience made us wait 4 to 5 months before returning. We got Sam again and again had an awesome lunch. BTW, the other guy is still there as of October so hopefully he has improved in his professionalism and behavior or he'll never make it in the restaurant industry. I'm not sure if this is the right career fit for him but wish him the best of luck. Overall, First Post is a nice place for a decent meal. It is also a popular location for family get togethers and showers, and many well-heeled customers eat there. It was 4+ years since I've eaten here. Last time it was very dark and not the least bit crowded and not a very memorable experience. This time we decided to try it again and I'm sure glad we did. The calamari was very lightly breaded and the marinara was great with fresh tomatoes flavor. The Brussels sprouts were very good and a hint of charred goodness. The Apple and cheese topping on it was a good mix with brussels. Both the house salad and Caesar salad was also good. The Caesar salad was perfectly balanced and not drowning in the Caesar dressing. The ranch dressing with house salad was good ranch unlike at certain restaurants where the ranch doesn't taste like ranch. I had the lobster puttanesca and it had huge chunks of lobster and the olives were perfect combo with the pasta to provide the saltiness. After giving my name and cell number, I received a text and calendar event for the reservation. It included the address which made it easy to click to load directions to Waze. We tried this restaurant on a weekend for lunch while visiting some relatives in the York area. Now we know why it gets four stars plus. The cuisine was excellent. We had two of the appetizers first - Scotch Eggs and pierogis. Very good. The cream of crab soup was superb. Very thick and creamy well prepared. We all had different types of burgers and they were all excellent. Best I've had in a while. Service was A+ .. fantastic. Our waiter Mack was super. Very professional and he had it all covered. Never missed a beat. The interior decor is traditional and a bit dated with all the dark stained wood finishes, but it didn't bother us at all. Plenty of parking nearby. May be a good idea to call in for a reservation during their busy time like a Friday or Saturday night . The service is nothing short of exceptional. Every person from the greeter to the server is absolutely amazing every time I've been there.
