When he says we're going to the Great American Saloon

Came for the food, stayed for the spontaneous transformation. One minute I'm just trying to enjoy a night out, the next minute the atmosphere has me channeling my inner Animorph and morphing directly into the taxidermy on the wall. 5 stars for excellent drinks, great service, and an environment so wild it literally changes you.

Our first time here and everything was absolutely excellent. I got the Grilled Wild Salmon and my husband got the quesadilla. Both were the best we ever had. Our waitress, Ashley S. was delightful. We can't wait to come back

The Penna Rustica shrimp and chicken in a parmesan creamy sauce over penna pasta was amazing. My wife says they have the best ribs. The boom boom shrimp appetizer was very very good, you could order it as a meal!

Loved the look and feel of this place. Staff were very nice. Food was really good but very pricey. Portions were small for the price you pay. $26 dollars for a small salmon on top of a small dollop of potatoes and corn puree, with about 5 pieces of asparagus on top.

Burger already begun and mashed by my hand.

This was my second visit to. Great American Saloon and the first was about a year ago with a large group. Stopped by with 2 friends for a fun night and it was! We began with a drink and friend #1 got a mocktail that looked lovely. Friend #2 had a cherry cosmo. She said it was good but too sweet. That happens. My Berringer's white zin was terrific because it was Berringer's white zin. I love it. Friend #1 got chicken Madeira- a generous portion of chicken breast and mushrooms and mozzarella covered in gravy / sauce with asparagus and served atop a mountain of mashed potatoes. She offered some and I took advantage of that. It was delish and I will order that next time! Friend #2 got cream of crab soup. She said it wasn't as thick as it should be but flavor was ok. She asked for a taste of the lobster bisque, thinking of taking it home for her son. She didn't think it was good and when I tasted it I could taste the lobster flavor, but over all, we decided it would be good to use to hold up wallpaper. It was like thick flour and water with some lobster flavor thrown in. On to my dinner- I had a great burger. I was disappointed that they didn't have the variety of burgers on the menu that were in the online menus, but it was a good burger! It came with cheese, breaded fried onions, cheese ( I switched to provolone from the normal cheddar), one lettuce leaf and BBQ sauce, which I got on the side. Good burger, nice portion and it came with yummy crisp fries. It hit the spot and was big enough that I had the other half for lunch the next day. Our server, Ashley, was attentive and helpful and let us finish our drinks and chat ( make that laugh and yell) with no rush. Later on a manager came by to ask how our meals were. She was very sweet and looks like she's maybe 13 years old! I asked her about one of their side dishes called baked pineapple and she described it to us. Friend #1 ordered it as a dessert for us to share. It wAs scrumptious! I'd definitely get that next time I go back. The place is loud, the decor has lots of animal heads and fun antique kinds of things to look at. Although I'm not into hanging parts of dead animals on the wall, it's kind of kitschy, and not seriously, hear look at this dead animal. Overall, it's a fun place to go with friends for a fun dinner. You don't have to be concerned about making too much noise with raucous friends because you'll blend right in! A nice place to have a good meal and a good time.

Went from the best lump crab cakes to the worst. Recently changed crab cakes. Now it's almost all filled and no crab.

Best steaks in York! You won't find a better steak or better service at any of the local chain steak houses.

The grounds are really beautiful and would definitely make a good place to host a wedding or other big event. They make their own cider and beer and their menu features a few gluten free options including GF buns and GF pizza crust with other GF options clearly marked. We ordered the brussel sprouts and buffalo wings to share and my grandma and I split a white pizza on cauliflower crust. The brussels were good but nothing life changing - I do think if they cut them in half they'd have turned out more crispy and less mushy. The buffalo wings were slathered in a delicious sauce and very good. The white pizza was just OK. We asked for chicken to be added but they forgot. The crust was thin but not very crispy. I caught a glimpse of their regular pizzas which looked delicious if you are able to tolerate gluten. I also had the Wyn-mosa, their take on a mimosa. It came with their citrus cider mixed in and it was a really nice combination. They even put a candle in our dessert for my grandma, after I secretly requested it. The food is nothing super memorable but it's a good option if you're in the area.

My wife had the fish and chips. Food was good and plentiful. Service was very good, ate with some old friends, there was no rush, they gave us plenty of space. The menu is varied, specials are not typical fare, but also do not become science projects like so many "creations" do. The food is left to speak for itself. Affordable. It sounds bold, and it is, but it works beautifully. The broth is rich and deeply savory, the cheese pull is perfect, and the crispy rings add a texture you never knew the classic was missing. The pork chop remains the star of the menu--huge, expertly seasoned, and cooked with precision. It's widely considered the best in the city, and honestly might be the best in the state. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor, it's the kind of entrée you end up recommending to friends for weeks. Their octopus is another standout, prepared with surprising delicacy. Tender, not chewy, with a perfect char that adds just the right amount of smokiness. It's balanced, refined, and one of the most memorable small plates you'll find locally. And don't leave without dessert--the crème brûlée is phenomenal. Silky smooth custard under a flawlessly torched sugar crust that cracks just right. Simple, classic, and executed perfectly. Between the inventive dishes and the warm atmosphere, The First Post remains a must-visit for anyone who loves great food done exceptionally well.

Great cut, cooked well with a very fair price point for the quality of the cut. Everything else was meh. The poutine was too soggy with flavors that were lacking. The Ceasar salad was the worst I've ever had. For a steakhouse, that's shocking. It tasted like an Italian salad with some ceasar dressing thrown in. I honestly should have requested that it be sent back since the lettuce looked wilted, but we were tired and didn't want to make a fuss. Drinks were excellent - made by our waitress. So this would be a snack and get some drinks kinda of place, I wouldn't recommend a full meal here.
