Dinner on our first night back in PA, work trip for the win

Always my go to when I'm staying in Harrisburg PA. I get the fish and chips with garlic parm sauce and the Reese's homemade pie to top off the night. Service is hit and miss but the river side seating, view, breeze and ambiance is totally worth it. All three restaurants are practically the same but I definitely recommend my go to meal

Dockside Willies is a staple of Harrisburg. We always love going here. The vibrant signage out front just calls you in! Who doesn't love the neon green outside! We love the food here! Whether you are getting a loaded baked potato, burger, stack, or river rocks they are always delicious and huge portions. We sat at the bar (place has tons of seating, but can become severely overcrowded). The bar tenders didn't crack a smile once and the male just seemed unamused to be there. The greeters were fantastic and all smiles. Maybe they were having a bad day. Either way Dockside Willies is a great place to accommodate a large group. P.S. the menu is enormous...

Love the comfortable River setting on the Susquehanna! My wife ordered the Orange Chicken Star with Saureed Vegetables with Mixed Vegetables, she said the Chicken & Vegetables were perfectly cooked. I went with the BLACKENED MAHI TACO Fresh mahl blackened to perfection atop a bed of our kickin' honey slaw then topped with our fresh mango salsa and lime sour cream. Served with a side of rice. I ordered a cup of Chili as an appetizer. Made with prime rib, black angus, and special beans and spices. Topped with Cheddar and Red onions. Personally I would have liked more spice kind of Bland nothing special. Overall the meals were hot and tasty except for the Chili's blandness but the spice in the taco made up for it. Probably should be a 4.5 Devon was our server, She was very friendly and hospitable and very efficient.

Our family travels to and from Selinsgrove, PA and Ashburn, VA. We stop at Dockside Willies every chance we can. They have a large menu and everything we have tried has been very good. The food is always consistently good, nothing outstanding, but always good.

Mango Bango mocktail - a mango frozen drink. Delicious!

First, this is my 10yo grandson's favorite restaurant. He loves the kids Fish & Chips (even though they are regular fries). We joke that he can get a (root) beer or an (ginger) ale. Today he wanted something stronger (he had a rough soccer game) so he chose the Mango Bango mocktail & loved it. The server was wonderful and made him a Shirley Temple to cheer him up. I had a salad stacker. It was delicious, very fresh. I did notice that they use frozen avocado slices, probably because they don't have many dishes with avocado. But best of all was enjoying the deck with the beautiful roof that provided shade from the afternoon sun and then the rain. The patio furniture was very comfortable. I would say this is the best deck seating in the area. Our server was attentive and sweet. It was a wonderful lunch date for my grandson and me.

Such a beautiful restaurant right off the river. Plenty of parking across the street. Stopped in last night but only had a little over an hour so we sat inside which didn't have a wait. Definitely need to come back and enjoy the outside which is right at the water. It was extremely busy and our server looked overwhelmed. I got the meatball soup and sausage sliders. Both were delicious. They have some merch to buy but didn't see any pint glasses. Almost took a star off but I really enjoyed myself so I will I'll let the no pint glass slide.

I've passed Watershed Pub a million times and never stopped, so when I met a friend for lunch, it…read morefinally felt like the right time to check it out. Naturally, I had already done my due diligence (read: stalked the menu for a full week) and had a game plan. At the top of my list? The deviled eggs and the Kale Caesar salad with salmon. The only problem...I absolutely did not need $40 worth of food for lunch. So I quietly spent the week putting "deviled egg energy" out into the Universe, hoping my lunch partner would suggest splitting them. Manifestation is real, people. I arrived around 12pm and found plenty of parking out back in Watershed's designated lot, which is clearly labeled--a good thing, because parking in that area looks like it could get competitive if you're not paying attention. We had made a 12:15pm reservation (Monday lunch felt safe, but why risk it?), and our table on the enclosed patio was ready when we arrived. It was the perfect setup--sunny and bright, but still warm enough to be comfortable on a chilly day. The vibe was great, and our server was even better--friendly, attentive, and consistently checking in without being overbearing. Then it was time to order. I let my lunch partner go first and waited... "Do you want to try the deviled eggs as an appetizer?" Are you kidding me?!. YES. Yes, I did! We ordered the deviled eggs ($11) to share, and I followed through with my Kale Caesar salad ($15) topped with seared salmon (+$13), officially completing my week-long menu-stalking mission. The deviled eggs came out FAST, and in my excitement, I completely forgot to take a picture--which tells you everything you need to know. Each egg was topped with a cube of candied bacon that absolutely stole the show. Sweet, savory, and just the right texture to complement the creamy filling. We made quick work of all four--excellent start to the meal! Not long after, our lunches arrived, and my salad? Gorgeous. Like, actually exciting to look at. I dug in immediately and it delivered. The mix of shaved brussels sprouts, kale, and romaine gave it great texture, the dressing was well-balanced, and the red onion didn't overpower the rest of the flavors. But my favorite part? The garlic parmesan crouton crumble. No chasing rogue croutons around the plate--just perfectly distributed crunch in every bite. Genius! The portion size was generous, too--I made it through about half before calling it and boxing the rest for dinner later. By the time we were wrapping up, the enclosed patio had filled up significantly, which tells me this is a popular lunch spot--and for good reason. The food is solid, the atmosphere is great, and the service was spot on. That said...$40 for deviled eggs, a salad and water is a bit steep for an everyday lunch. For me, this feels more like a "treat yourself," client meeting, or special occasion kind of place rather than a regular rotation spot. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I be casually popping in every week? Probably not. But those deviled eggs? Totally worth manifesting!

This little hole-in-the-wall sits on the backside of a rivertown, serving up old-school vibes and seriously good pizza. The dough and sauce are made in-house, and you can taste it -- crust was crisp yet airy, with a buttery richness and just enough chew to make each bite satisfying. Sauce had a bit of spice, cheese was bubbly, browned, and full of real-deal flavor (no sad, fake cheese here). Toppings? Plentiful and delicious. We came dangerously close to finishing the whole pie, stopping only two slices short. For drinks, my adventure buddy went classy with an Old Fashioned (good, but nothing to write home about -- and the bar's lack of Luxardo cherries made him sad), while I kept it real with a draft Miller Lite. The beer was cold and clean -- and honestly, from a hole-in-the-wall bar, that's something I appreciate. Bartender doubled as our waitress and handled it like a pro, even on a slow Monday night. The place is dark and cozy, decorated with lots of '50s-inspired artwork, and apparently has a rooftop bar -- sadly closed during our summer date night. The bill came to $42 for the pizza, two drinks, and a tip -- budget-friendly date night win. No on-site parking, but plenty of free curb spots out front or municipal lots a block away. Safe area for an after-dark stroll. If you're into unpretentious spots serving pizza that punches above its weight, Fratelli's is your jam.

Knowing Father's Day would probably be busy, I decided to do my homework ahead of time. Before we even left the house, I used First Watch's online "Check In" feature to get our name on the list while we were driving there. The website estimated a 10 to 20 minute wait and instructed us to let the hostess know when we arrived. Perfect! Or so I thought... About 15 minutes later, we walked through the doors...into absolute chaos. The lobby was PACKED with people waiting for tables despite the fact that roughly half the dining room appeared to be sitting empty. I squeezed my way through the crowd, made it to the hostess stand, gave her my name and mentioned that I'd already checked in online. "Great," she said. "It'll be 20 to 25 minutes." Wait...what? So the online check-in that said we'd be waiting 10 to 20 minutes...didn't actually accomplish anything? If I'd known we'd still be waiting another half hour after arriving, we honestly would have chosen somewhere else that accepted reservations or true call-ahead seating. The online check-in created expectations that simply weren't met. About 20 minutes later, we were finally seated. Unfortunately, things didn't improve. We sat for another 15 minutes before our waitress stopped by to take drink orders. We decided to order all of our food immediately because we weren't confident we'd see her again anytime soon. Good decision! The coffee arrived fairly quickly. The water...tap water, not fancy water, not bottled water, not water that required any preparation other than being put into a glass bottle and carried to the table, showed up about 10 minutes later. Here's what we ordered: Million Dollar Bacon ($6.29) - four slices of hardwood-smoked bacon glazed with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne and syrup. This was absolutely phenomenal! If nothing else, order this (or learn to make it at home so you can avoid an excessive wait at First Watch to eat it). Sweet, smoky, just enough heat...this absolutely lived up to the hype! Power Wrap ($11.49) - egg whites, turkey, spinach, mushrooms and mozzarella in a sun-dried tomato basil tortilla with fresh fruit. The wrap itself was really good. The fruit was a mixed bag. The grapes were great, but the pineapple was still hard and noticeably underripe. At this point in the meal, I wasn't surprised and definitely wasn't going to try to get it fixed. Lemon Ricotta Pancakes ($13.29) - these were also really good. The lemon curd completely stole the show and made the pancakes. The menu advertised seasonal berries, which turned out to be strawberries. They were perfectly fine, though I probably would have expected blueberries this time of year. The Works Omelet (FREE BECAUSE THE ORDER WAS NOT CORRECT) - this was my stepdad's Father's Day breakfast. He ordered it WITHOUT onions. It arrived with EXTRA onions. By that point, our waitress had disappeared again, so rather than wait another 20 minutes for a remake, I flagged down another employee near the kitchen. I explained that we'd waited long enough already and simply wanted the omelet removed from the bill instead of remade. To their credit, they handled that professionally and removed it without any argument. While I had someone's attention, I also requested plates for the Million Dollar Bacon appetizer that had been sitting on our table for about 15 minutes and asked if my mom's meal could please be brought out since everyone else's food had already arrived quite a while earlier. Our final bill came to just over $44 after tax and tip. Even after everything that happened, I still left our waitress a 25% tip. It was Father's Day, the restaurant was clearly overwhelmed, and I try to assume people are doing the best they can with what they've got. That said...it was obvious something wasn't working. Whether they were understaffed, overwhelmed by the Father's Day crowd, or simply having an off day, the entire experience felt disorganized from beginning to end. The online check-in wasn't accurate, service was painfully slow, food came out at different times, one meal was prepared incorrectly, and our server disappeared for long stretches throughout the meal. Ironically, the food itself was actually pretty good. If I were reviewing only the Million Dollar Bacon, it would easily earn five stars. Unfortunately, restaurants are more than just food. For me, the overall experience matters just as much. There are simply too many excellent local breakfast and brunch spots to justify returning after an experience like this. I'm glad my stepdad's omelet was removed from the bill, and I appreciate that the staff made that right, but I left more frustrated than impressed. First Watch may have just had a really bad Father's Day. But based on my first experience, I don't think I'll be back to find out.

The Review: Men in the Kitchen…read more My reviews are different. I do not announce myself or tell anyone. I am here to do a review!! It was a rainy Sunday, and I was working up a hunger while driving Uber for content. I went to three different spots before I finally found the place I should've gone to first. The food and atmosphere at this restaurant are so good that I want to find another establishment just like it, but so far--at least on this day--nothing in the area can beat it. I don't know why I treat this restaurant like a good wife that a man might constantly cheat on but always returns to. I'm not saying that I actually cheat; I'm just using that for context! So, I found myself once again at Two Men in the Kitchen. Since it was Easter Sunday, they offered a buffet or a special limited menu. There was fish and chicken wings available, and I chose the wings. Since I don't eat meat often, I asked for their "House Sauce," and it is by far amazing. I paired the wings with the 3-cheese baked mac & cheese and sweet potatoes. I went for the sides first because I wanted to save the best for last--I already knew that house sauce was going to be incredible, especially on the chicken and greens eggrolls they have. The mac & cheese was great; it had a crunchy outside yet remained soft in the middle, and the cheese pull was amazing. The sweet potatoes were definitely homemade; I could tell because every slice was a different cut, which I appreciate because it proves they didn't come out of a can. Now for the best part: the chicken wings. They were cooked perfectly--neither overdone nor underdone, with no pink on the inside. Everything was pure. I did happen to taste a little bit of Old Bay on the wings, so I asked the chef if that was part of the secret seasoning. He said no, so maybe someone slipped some in by accident, but it didn't stop me from indulging. I also ordered one of their house special drinks--a Hennessy and rum cocktail. It was a very pretty drink, but unfortunately, I am not a fan of Hennessy. Personally, I think it tastes like house keys or licking a brass knob when you're a kid. On my scale, the drink was a 2 out of 5; I just don't think rum and cognac should mix, but that's just my opinion. The atmosphere was amazing and the bathrooms were clean. I will definitely visit this place again and again, although sometimes it is hard to tell if they are open because of the heavily tinted windows. For those who know the area, this is the old firehouse in Harrisburg. I was told that on the weekends, they clear some tables to create a dance floor, which is a nice touch. There is plenty of bar seating and booths, making it a kid-friendly environment. The only thing I don't like--which applies to every restaurant on 2nd Street--is that it's very hard to find parking. The Scale * Location & Parking: (3/5) * Staff & Engagement: (4/5) * Food Consistency: (4.7/5)

You have to do it online, via text, and it won't allow you to purchase any time less than an hour. Kinda sucks for those carrying out. Totally not the restaurant's fault though. I got the jerk quesadilla without the jerk ranch sauce. They don't serve this or their regular quesadilla with salsa or pica de gallo so it does taste a little bland. The jerk flavor isn't coming thru for me. It's a little disappointing but it's also just a quesadilla so I don't expect much. I'm not deterred though. I'd be interested in trying more on the menu. It seemed like a cozy place to sit and eat. I'd also like to eat there on my next visit. I'll update my review when I do.
