I would give it a better review if the people were not so rude. Food is excellent. Never had a bad meal in all the years I've been ordering from here. Here's the problem. I routinely order between $40 and $50 worth of food. When I go to pick it up, there's 4 minuscule containers of sour cream and 4 of the salsa that are half full. When I ask for more, they act like asking for the nuclear launch codes or one of the organs. I try to explain that it is not enough condiments for the size of the order. The people that used to work the counter got a little better over time. The new clowns? Absolutely awful. They have to do better. I'm giving it one more chance and then I'm done. read more

Amazingly delicious food, price and service! I don't know why soo many ppl were disappointed here? The first time my gf and I ordered from here (Living in RVC), we had ordered again the next 3 days to try almost everything on the menu. Everything was exactly how we like it and service timely and on point. This place may not be as authentic as some of the other overpriced and "fancy" restaurants in RVC village, but it is just perfect for us and always satisfies our craving for Tex-Mex. At about 1/3 of the price of the competitors. Definitely try the enchilladas, tostada salads, tacos... everything really. The shrimp (Very fresh and yummy) and steak are our favs. Can't forget the chips and salsa also! Now, we will be ordering today because just writing this review has us salivating. Craving some Spanish food my daughter and I ordered in and boy we are glad we found this place! Enchalada, burrito and fajita. All HUGE portions and each different in taste and equally delicious. The food was fresh and full of flavor. We tried to pick what we liked best and its a three way tie. It was all that good. Every bit of the menu looked good. So many choices! If I could give zero stars I would. The picture is of a burrito and not a taco (notice, no melted cheese and not in burrito form (I.e. folded). Not pictured the quesadilla that didn't have melted cheese in it as well as when we asked why this was, the restaurant responded that this is the way we do quesadillas (aka not melted). The veggie taco also featured freezer burned veggies (obviously not warm) as well as the explanation that "this is the way veggie tacos are served here". Don't waste your time on chips and guac either as you can find better from Taco Bell. The lady who answered the phone at the restaurant would not refund our food because we took bites out of it. Pretty ridiculous overall experience. Take hints from the menu that this isn't authentic Mexican at all with the numerous spelling errors like quesacilla on their menu. Food is food. Cooking is cooking, so why did it shock me to see Asian chefs' mastering the Mexican cuisine? The only thing about the actual restaurant (besides the food) that is remotely Tex-Mex, is the mounted bull horn decoration on the wall. As much as I love them, fish tanks with some exotic looking fish decorated the counters. I felt they were really out of place. Like the other reviews, this place looks and feels like a Chinese take-out place, but for me, one bite into that taco screamed Mexican food. I was first introduced to The First Tortilla Grill after a night eating at my friends house. I couldn't get enough! The First Tortilla Grill may have a fast food place flavor, but this place doesn't deserve to be on the same level as a Taco Bell. It was fresh and filling. I ordered a bunch of things because my eyes are bigger than my belly (shocka!.) I got a lot food which actually lasted me three whole lunches, for under $20. I got a hard shell chili (beef) taco and chicken taco. It came piled high with lettuce, cheese and chopped tomato. My favorite was the chicken quesadilla. I hardly could finish the whole thing. It had meaty fajita like strips of grilled chicken, Monterrey jack melted between two tortillas and grilled to a gooey, cheesy perfection. OMG it is so good. I also got a "side" of nachos and cheese which I never expected to be so ginormous! I expected a little side of nachos with a dipping nacho sauce. Well, my goodness, it was a whole tin of nachos drenched in cheese, jalapeno peppers, chopped tomato, and black beans. Next time I am going with out the beans. They kinda looked gross and I was not a fan of the flavor, so I picked it off. If you love Mexican food and live in the area, you must try this place. If you don't want to come here to pick up, they deliver to Lynbrook, Oceanside and other surrounding areas. read more

OK so after doing some shopping at Home Goods, My boyfriend and I decided to get something fast for lunch. We remembered driving passed Maple and seeing a Mexican place (Tortilla Grill) and Adams Rib. We figured the Tortilla place looked fast and affordable so we decided to go in there. I walked in and to my surprise it was Chinese Take out! I mean they didn't serve Chinese food, but everything else about it was Chinese. I couldn't believe it. I have never been to a Chinese-Mexican place as my friends call it... Its something I never wanted to try. Seems pointless.. But in this case, my boyfriend and I felt guilty walking out... So we ordered. It was cheap. We ordered guacamole to start. It was GROSS. Tasted like watery slime. No taste. I took a pic of it so you can see. Weird. The chips were fried like won-tons. I ordered a Bean Burrito and it was actually NOT bad! My bf ordered a steak taco and a cheese quesadilla. Both were surprisingly amazing.... If you screw up quesadilla's, there's a problem... I used to like this place but it's gone downhill! Ordered some food last night and it was terrible. My favorite was always their Vegetable burrito that I always order with just a small amount of rice and beans and more vegetables which I pay another $1 (no problem). last night I repeated that order twice to the person on the phone and he said he understood. Well that came as a rice and bean burrito. Where were the vegetables???? My friend ordered the beef enchiladas and said they were so dry and threw most of it in the garbage. The pico de gallo is probably my favorite thing on the menu, I could eat 4 cups of it. I could honestly write this entire review on how much I love it. IT IS THAT GOOD. Guacamole is eh, rice with black beans is good, veggie quesadillas are super yummy but the vegetables tend to make it soggy (still good though). The only problem I have is they don't really salt their food, but once you add some it becomes 500 times better. You know what, this place has actually really grown on me. Listen, the food is still certainly not anything I'm going to rave about. But I live in the next town over, when I'm lazy and want some tex mex and don't feel like going out, they're at my door within 15 minutes. It's wonderfully cheap. I actually do love the nachos. Again, not the greatest thing I've ever had, but still really tasty and nice and sloppy. While I have ordered from The First Tortilla Grill many times, my last experience did not have a happy ending. My wife and I have had quite a hectic few weeks, so rather than cook or eat leftovers recently, we decided to pick up some quick food from First Tortilla. Let me tell you, nothing makes a white guy feel more cosmopolitan than Asians making his pseudo-Mexican food. As always, the food was good. The tortilla's are made fresh and have an almost crepes-like texture. The steak is always well seasoned and the Mexican rice, though slightly overcooked for most people is just how I like it. The problem came several hours later when both my wife and I were hit with a kamikaze attack of Montezuma's revenge. Can I be 100% sure it was due to First Tortilla? No, but I don't think I'll ever risk it again either. We've eaten here at least a dozen times and this was the only instance of a (possible) bad reaction, hence the 2 stars. Had we not had this experience, it would be three stars and if this were our only experience, easily a 1 star rating. read more

I really don't know what I was expecting at this place, I come from Southern California (5 minutes from the border) and while obvious it wasn't real mexican food (similar to taco bell), it wasn't that great either, It legit wasn't anything that I couldn't replicate in the kitchen with very simple ingredients, and I am sure all of you could as well. The decor was wacky, It had chinese decoration (because it is owned by Chinese), as well as mexican. Wat. My food was not too great, the rice was dry as hell, the meat was tough, and my sister's quesadilla was similar to what you'd make in a skillet with a bag of shredded cheese and 2 flour tortillas, that and being overpriced just did me in. I've been coming here at least once a week for 3 years. Friendly staff, nothing deep fried. My order is always correct and it's been 100% consistent through the years. Prices are really good and it never takes more than 10 minutes to get my order. They have a great selection of drinks too, including Jarritos soda with about 6 different flavors, which isn't easy to come by. The owners / employees are Asian and have a thick accent, but they're really friendly. What's funny is they kind of blend Asian foods (the way the chicken is prepared, for instance) with Mexican food. But it just works. Put this place in the middle of Manhattan and they'd be billed as an Asian/Mexican fusion restaurant with ridiculous prices. Inside, it looks like a Chinese restaurant (2 or 3 aquariums and Asian wallpaper) but the food is spot on. I've got my whole office going there all the time for lunch now. They DO accept credit / debit cards but there's a $10 minimum. They accept any cash amount orders. They also have family size portions you can order if you wish. The regular portions are great. I typically order a shrimp hard taco (the shrimp is surprisingly good!) and a chicken/steak burrito (which is huge!) for under 10 bucks. read more

The only annoying part is that they have a $10 min on cards and since it's so cheap it can be hard to make that min. The most disgusting, revolting garbage I've ever seen...not eaten, as we couldn't really eat it! We ordered about $40 worth, which ended up being a lot of food and ALL of it was horrifically bad. I asked for black bean soup and got a spoon full of black beans, a couple of onion slices and 2 cups of water. Why not just say they don't have bean soup? The guacamole was pale, tasteless and runny! SO SO BAD! The chicken was tough and gristly, not a bit of breast to be found. The salsa had no flavour. I'm still in shock at how absolutely awful this crap was. I cannot even call it food. When I called to complain (about the soup particularly), the guy laughed as though it was funny! Live and learn, but people, please learn from my mistake. Don't wast a penny of your money. I come here often with my coworkers. Food is good and not expensive. Burritos are great and fill you up. Tacos are good also. Tostada salads are very good.
