Bites : Fannin County and Beyond... Follow all reviews https://www.ntxenews.com/index.shtml More than catfish: A taste of home at a Paris favorite Fish Fry Location: 3500 NE Loop 286, Paris, TX 75460 (903) 785-6144 Paris, Texas -- Everyone in Paris, Texas knows where to go when you're craving catfish done right. But what if I told you the real magic isn't just in the fryer? There's a lot more to this hometown favorite than what's on the surface--and it tastes like nostalgia. In Paris, Texas, when someone says, "Let's hit the fish fry," you know exactly where they mean. It's a local staple--crispy, golden all-you-can-eat catfish, hush puppies you could snack on all day, and tomato relish that deserves its own merch line. But the real unsung hero? That coleslaw. It's exactly what coleslaw should be--cold, crisp, just the right amount of sweetness, and perfectly simple. No extra frills, no overthinking it. Just that familiar bite that balances everything else on the plate. And while most folks come for the catfish, here's the secret: this place has more to offer. Let's talk about the steak. It's a ribeye--plain and simple. Not some dry-aged, chef-finessed showpiece plated with microgreens and a demi-glace, but a solid, well-seasoned cut that reminds you of when steak night actually meant something. When your parents picked up ribeyes from the grocery store, grilled them at home, and turned an ordinary night into something special. And when it comes out? It's served on those heavy-duty metal platters that instantly bring back memories of Western Sizzler. If you know, you know. It's not about fine dining--it's about comfort. Familiarity. That little flash of nostalgia that makes you smile before your first bite. So sure, come for the catfish. But stay for everything else. Because this place isn't just feeding you--it's taking you back More than catfish: A taste of home at a Paris favorite feeding you--it's taking you back

My first introduction to visiting Paris, TX for the first time was The Fish Fry. A reservation was made in advance and we arrived with a party of 15+. Our server Maddy handled things well for the most part, which was a plus. My only suggestions would be to take orders from the end of the table to the front so that orders are not mixed up at the end. Ordering was a bit all over the place but luckily everyone received the meals they ordered. Lastly, fully explain how your "All you can eat" option really goes it will prevent any confusion moving forward & save people some money. Upon seating, fresh & delicious hush puppies were placed on the table - don't fill up on these lol. Next, freshly cut white onions were brought (didn't quite understand this but hey), then green tomatoes (not a fan but heard they were good). The drink & food orders were brought out quickly which made us VERY happy! I ordered their combo platter of fried catfish, boiled shrimp with a loaded baked potato. The catfish was okay would have preferred thick fillets vs small & thin catfish nuggets. The boiled shrimp were okay can't really go wrong there EXCEPT they were brought out with a cup a water which was odd so I asked what it was for, I kid you not she said "to clean the shrimp I guess" say what?! Anyhow, the side salad was basically lettuce & radish slices. It came with tomatoes but I opted them out. They don't have Caesar dressing so I ended up choosing ranch. Now, let's talk about their "All you can eat catfish". I personally did not order this BUT it definitely set a tone for others who did. Their whole concept is BACKWARDS. Do not think they are gonna bring you plates back to back of big thick catfish fillets. They will bring a plate & have you grab some pieces then take it back vs leaving whatever is left for that person. And a KEY point to note, they expect every person to pay for it individually but the plates brought are supposed to be shared with everyone at the table "family style" they said. Yeah, that's not how that works lol. Babes Chicken has the family style concept done correctly, maybe take notes from them. Basically, just order their combo plate which is a few dollars cheaper. When I think of a "Fish Fry" I'm expecting big flavorful crunchy fillets. The menu should note "nuggets". Also to note, someone ordered grilled catfish & they brought her grilled chicken because they don't have grilled fish. This should have been communicated to her beforehand instead of just choosing what you want & even that alone was a small cut topped with a pineapple slice, I have never seen that lol. To fix the issue, they brought her a thin mushy piece of "baked catfish" - she took two bites & that was enough for her. It left little to be desired she said. You can tell The Fish Fry is a town favorite but even for a person from a small country town it fell short of my expectations. For the locals it could a staple but for others not so much. Being we were starving, it did its job but would I personally return? Negative.

Very nice atmosphere and options of private rooms! Great place to take a group and visit together! The food was great! The all you can eat Catfish is where it's at! Great breading and seasoning and the complimentary hush puppies brought to the table are top notch!

This is the best fried fish in north Texas. Their hush puppies and relish are also delicious.

The chicken was incredibly tender and not dry at all. I try think maybe it's been brined in buttermilk overnight. It didn't even need the gravy, which I ordered on the side (I highly recommend that). Then I could dip and use just a small amount of gravy. It's an interesting dish, almost like the chicken was cooked in the dressing like a casserole. I have no idea how they did it. Very tender and easy to eat. Comfort food. Great greens. Good sweet potatoes (a little on the sweet side for me, but most people will love them, and they are very tasty). My dinner partner had chicken fried steak with greens and mashed potatoes. CFS was excellent, tender and crispy. Good cream gravy. Good standard mashed potatoes. There was a bit too much salt in several things for my taste, including the chicken gravy and the greens. Both were very flavorful but personally I would cut the salt for both. That's just me. But if you are sensitive to salt you might avoid those particular items or eat sparingly. Peach cobbler for dessert. Also Google will tell you they close at 4pm on Sunday. Not true, they're open until 8:30 pm Sunday.
