I used to eat here when I worked in the area. So i must confess it's been 10 years since I've been here, but it was a great little find. This is the 'go to' place for catfish and all the fixings-- the hushpuppies were great. The owner was a veterinarian and one day decided to turn his place into a restaurant! I find it amazing that a veterinarian with no restaurant experience can successfully reinvent himself in a totally new field. Excellent hidden gem that only the locals know about. This was an AWESOME stop on our road trip. The Hubs ordered the all you can eat catfish ($14.95). And it was melt in your mouth good. You didn't even need the tartar sauce. The batter gives the perfect crisp and seasoning. I ordered the ribeye. It was delicious and tender you could cut it with my butter knife. It was so thick and juicy. Instead of bread you get by hush puppy sticks with butter to dip them in. Like our waitress said "It's kind of like heaven in your mouth!" All these years we have passed it on out way to Shreveport and I always made fun of it as a hole in the wall. Boy was I wrong! This is a must stop when in Paris, TX. Crazy busy on a Friday night, glad we made reservations. But even though they were slammed the service was excellent! I cannot wait until we are driving through to stop here again. read more

This place is adorable, everyone in town seemed to be celebrating something. The food for the most part was great. Really great cole slaw, and it came in a huge bowl that 2 people couldn't finish. The baked potato was lacking a bit, I expected cheese but that's ok. The catfish was wonderful! I guess that's the main deal here anyway, they do a great job. However the fried shrimp was inedible. Service was ok. I like my table cleared though when I'm at a nicer place. Overall ok though. read more

Over-rated. Food was decent but not outstanding. Service really poor and patronage totally unappreciated. Waitress took order without asking if we were ready to order. Brought bill without asking if we wanted anything else. Never offered desert or coffee....oh wait, they don't offer deserts..none on menu. I know why.. Staff is more eager to turn tables than to worry about whether customers are happy. Always a wait so apparently they have more customers than they need. I grew up dining here, and have mostly been satisfied. The best steak and hush puppies in town. The fish is a little too salty for me, but it is still good. Also, a great place to go on a romantic date, as the lighting is low, candles lit on the tables and it's quite (as in no obnoxious music blaring) just chatter of the other diners. A Paris institution. First timers should always go with the fried catfish. Reservations are helpful on weekends.

Given the word of mouth for this resturant I decided to give it a try. The fish was lightly coated in a cornmeal and there was plenty of meat on these filets. (No fiddlers here I guess.) Thumbs up on the cole slaw too. It has a creamy dressing but the dressing is not overpowering. The hush puppies are shaped like breaded, deep fried cheese sticks. They cool off pretty quick and become greasy tasting. I like the more traditional ball shaped puppies myself. These had more of a corn dog coating taste. (As an old time lover of the original Pronto Pup I thought the hush puppies here tasted very close to that.) The fries were ok, they apparently are made fresh there and not frozen. I'm just not a big lover of french fries (American style) so I requested a bake potato which has an extra charge. Unfortunately there was a mix up and I got the fries instead. There was a side dish of pepper spiced veggies that I sampled but didn't really care for. Service was good during the busy evening dining hour when I was there. I was seated in a dining room which had maybe six or eight tables. There are several smaller dining rooms which adds a certain charm to the place. My bill for the all you can eat catfish was $14.55 and that included coffee but no dessert. read more

I am always amazed when I find a great restaurant in small town USA. This place RAWKS! I ordered the filet and it was tender and cooked perfectly! The coleslaw is a must as its light on the cream with a sweet finish. This place is also known for its all you can eat catfish. It looked great as well. This is a must try when your in Paris, TX. The atmosphere looks the same as it did in the 1980s but, the food is what you came for. The Fish Fry never disappoints. The steaks, catfish and seafood are all very good. Be sure to make reservations on the weekend as it gets busy and you could have a very long wait. read more

I have grown up eating here my whole life & can honestly say that I've never had a better filet. You will not leave here hungry! I also really enjoy the fried catfish & the hushpuppies are delicious. My husband says the food is so-so, it is pretty basic, no dessert & no alcohol but if you're just wanting a good steak & potato or fish dinner this is the place to go. read more

The food here is wonderful and the service is always great. They have great fish but their steaks are the best. Make a reservation on weekends, and even then be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table. During the week it's not so crowded, and you can probably just walk in. You will have to go somewhere else for dessert, but if it's a special occasion they don't mind if you bring in a cake. read more

This place was super busy so like most other reviewers say making a reservation is highly recommended. Even with our reservation we had to wait about thirty minutes. The food was good, but not wait thirty minutes after your reservation good if you know what I mean. My actual rating is closer to 2.5 stars but I rounded up because everyone else seems to like it. I got he shrimp dinner and while it was cooked well the batter could certainly have use a little more flavoring. read more

This is my dad's favorite restaurant... Why? It doesn't offer a large variety, you always have to wait even if you have a reservation and the server's aren't exceptionally nice. I'll tell you, what they do serve is one that small menu is all great food. I would rate the lobster a 1 star. (Very dry) however the fish is perfect.. I will say we ordered all you can eat fish and ate two pieces ( one piece is a 1/2 fillet) it was almost 15 buck a plate and I think that is pricey! Service was slow however very friendly. I really don't understand the large crowd that comes... It was very loud! You couldn't hear the people at your own table talking with out yelling... I was exhausted after this experience.. read more

STOP. EAT HERE NOW!! I never eat catfish unless I am in Mississippi where I can get pond raised catfish, but went here because a business associate told me I would not be disappointed-and he was right. I had the AYCE catfish and it was fabulous . The hush puppies were bland and could have used a little bit of onion to give them flavor, but the catfish is worth the trip. They open at 5:00 and I was there at 5:15 and had to wait!! I left at 6:00 and there were 15 people waiting and another 10 were coming in. My family has been faithful patrons of The Fish Fry in Paris, Texas for years. Coming home to Paris from as far as Austin, we make sure to stop here. Never had a negative experience until this past Saturday May 11, 2019. It was more than 30 minutes after being seated before we were served any food and the food was cold. Found a manager, expressed our concerns. The manager stated he would take care of the issue. Fresh hot food was then brought out. Due to the lateness of the hour we did ask for carry outs to not delay staff leaving in a timely manner. The manager finally came out with very cheap carry out containers stating he would make an exception for carryouts, which generally were not allowed. He would not give the containers to us, instead he chose to deal out the containers as though they were cards as he made his exception speech. MRv MANAGER YOU DID NOT DO US A FAVOR. The best ribeye steak I've ever had - seriously! My husband is from Paris and we always try and make it to the Fish Fry when we visit. My husband gets the catfish and he raves about it - the hush puppies, pickled tomatoes - everything is great at the Fish Fry. Back in Paris again. So where do I go for dinner. The fillet was fork tender and cooked perfectly medium rare. I ordered a catfish fillet on the side with tomato relish. Don't know how they do it but WONDERFUL. The only shortcoming is that they don't serve any shredded cheese with their baked potato. Oh well the hushpuppies make up for it. We were happy to find this place. A large crowd gave us the encouragement we needed. My steak(filet) was very tasty. The salad was crisp and fresh. I enjoyed the hush puppies and , sliced onion and pickled green tomatoes. My husband liked his fish. The service was good. read more
