My wife and I ate breakfast at the Five Mile Cafe the other day and I think it might have been the best breakfast I've had from any restaurant on the east side of the city. They make the corned beef hash from scratch and it's the only home made corned beef hash I've ever had that was not only good but it was excellent. A lot of places think just the fact that they make it from scratch makes it better than canned but that's not true at all and why most places just use canned. They figured out the seasoning. The eggs benedict is also excellent. I haven't had better. One cool little thing I noticed is that they serve a small piece of watermelon on top of a mint leaf. The watermelon picks up the flavor of the mint and it's flat out amazing how delicious it is. The woman that does the cooking is an excellent cook. I would try everything at this place. I've driven by this little restaurant for years and finally decided to try it. I placed an order for pickup on Saturday for three breakfast sandwiches on kaiser rolls. They were all the same except for the meats. The sandwiches came with home fries that were delicious! The sandwiches were packaged open faced, and looked so good! The sandwiches were SO GOOD! We went there for breakfast, what an excellent place. We got our food, we had the Five Mile Plate and Eggs Benedict and kid's pancake. Everything is super-fresh and so tasty. The meat sauce wasn't greasy at all, which is what most "garbage plates" in Rochester end up being oily, this one was not, executed perfectly. Best breakfast spot in town! The pancakes might be the best I've ever tasted. The omelets and potatoes are delicious, too. They serve locally roasted coffee in a variety of flavors. I try to eat here at least once a week and would gladly come more often. read more

Food was delicious! Seasoned great, and big portions. They use locally sourced products, which is always appreciated. The family that runs this establishment were present,extremely welcoming and friendly. This place was recommended by a coworker and I am glad that she recommended it. I have been here twice, both times for breakfast. The food is cooked all fresh so things take a little longer, but it's worth it! The staff is super friendly and the portions are great! I got the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were a bit more dense then I am used to, but it was still delicious. I really wish i would have got pancakes or french toast, but I went with what I am used to. My fiance got a side of sausage and it was great and he raved about his eggs benny too! I really want to go back and get their turkey club for lunch because it looks unreal! read more

The food here is good and we have been here many times but since new ownership the service has dropped considerably. We went on a busy Sunday and while everyone was very nice it took awhile for us to place our order or to even know who our server was, there were 3 people. It took awhile to receive our food, eggs bacon, home fries and toast. The bacon was overdone, one order had buttered toast the other didn't yet it was specifically requested. I have no idea what the food was like because I could never eat there! They were always closed! We went there twice during their posted hours. The first time it was completely closed with nobody there. The second time, we went on their website to try to order ahead since we were going to be there 1 hr before closing. The website wasn't updated and didn't have their lunch menu on it. We went there anyway and they were vacuuming up and one of the employees told us that they were closing because they hadn't had any customers all day! No wonder! We were going to be two paying customers and you turn us away?! That left a bad taste in my mouth; I don't think I'll be back. read more

Great place to eat, they are now open for dinner three nights a week. (Wed-Fri, I want to say though that may not be right.) I stopped in for lunch and on a recommendation from the cook I tried her Pork Wrap. It was made with chopped pork steak an egg cooked medium, potatoes,peppers and onions, with a great tasting seasoning that is the chefs secret. Great food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and now being under new management I would highly recommend it for breakfast or lunch. The cafe had a bad day today. I do love their potatoes home fries. I ordered wheat toast with my over medium eggs (cooked over easy) and got rye, and my wife's hash had an overpowering mustard taste with the poached egg tasting like vinegar. They had a printer problem in the kitchen so we were comped for the long wait with our beverages. Previous visits were pretty good so this probably won't be our last visit. We didn't tell management at the time since the place was pretty packed and it's really tight and we didn't want everyone to hear. They will get another chance to redeem themselves, but no hash next time. read more

I have been here twice - 1st and last!!!! Went for breakfast and was very disappointed. My guest had Eggs Benedict and was not impressed with it. Traditionally the English muffin is toasted, not this one. Hollandaise sauce was very unforgettable. I had French Toast, which was tasty but there were only two pieces. Adorable little spot that really makes you feel at home. Right from the beginning, the staff made me feel welcome and were very attentive. I had the feta and artichoke quiche and was very satisfied. Had been here for a good dinner, so was looking forward to a nice lunch. The caesar salad with chicken was the worst salad I've ever had. The menu stated romaine lettuce, as a caesar salad should be; however it was only iceberg lettuce, with awful tomatoes. My companions both ordered paninis, and both were mostly cheese, and not very flavorful.
