Even during tough times - they apparently feel its incumbent upon them to be rude to *potential* customers. This was about 4 months back, we live in the neighborhood and were out and about, realized it was dinner time and said hey, we'd been meaning to try the popular chicken for a date night before COVID took over, let's see if they're open for takeout? Lights are on, door is open, walk up to the less than sunny dispositioned lady out front who is on her phone and ask, "Hey, are you guys open for takeout?" She looks up at us and says "... NO???" with a scowl as if SHE was the one asking a question, albeit very rudely. Kay cool. Could have said no not during COVID, no not today, no not right now but later, or you know just need a standard "No" like a normal human who realizes the person they're interacting with is a human as well. Obviously never visiting even when it goes back to non-COVID times. Don't need to pay $30 for chicken and be treated terribly as well. I love supporting my neighborhood places like Speedy's, Chilo's, Locanda Vini e Olli, Izzy Rose, you name it. But The Fly??? See you never! read more

Even though the drink menu is twice as long as the food menu - if you serve one thing, you better get it right, and they did. The whole chicken, ceasar salad chicken sandwich, fries and brussels sprouts were amazing. orange wine was good. and i really enjoyed the ginger lime zero proof drink. read more

Pretty good! We got half a chicken, fries and green beans. It was a good amount of food. The chicken was a little over salted but other than that it's good! To be honest, I'd go back but particularly because I was out of the park from the food. It was mostly because the " ambiance" was nice. Staff was just OK. They were all kind of standing around chatting and I we had to flag them down multiple times to order, pay and get drinks. There was more than six of them! And not one wanted to take our order. We've been wanting to try this place forever now, and now that we finally did, I'm so happy. This place was great. Delicious, juicy chicken and one of the best caesar salads I've had in recent memory. On top of that, a great, crisp dirty Martini that uses Gin! Can't get much better than that. Already looking forward to coming back here, and now need to try Hart's and Cervo's as well! Make sure to get both the green and white sauce here, they are equally delicious. I would've given this 5/5 . However, the wait was over 40 minutes and it took us a while to get the waitress attention when we needed a to go container and to get one drink. More or less The food here is good. The chicken is organic free range chicken. The food menu is small this is a wine bar with chicken as the main course and there are about 6 sides to choose from. When that half organic chicken came to our table and I took my first bite I notice why people love this place. The chicken was juicy and flavorful not dry at all. The side of squash was a perfect complement to the chicken. The potatoes were decent it was smothered in chicken jus. The chicken sandwich is a pulled chicken sandwich that comes with mini hot peppers and radishes. The chicken in this was good but a little bit too salty for me. The ambiance is nice and dimly lit. It may be hard to read the menus and the music was throwback 70s music. I want to come back just for the chicken and squash and also to try their extensive wine menu. read more

This place is a solid 4 stars! It's a super specific restaurant with a limited menu that does not appeal to all diets (vegan, or pescatarian) however- what it does have is really juicy rotisserie chicken and a solid sandwich made from said chicken! The prices aren't too bad either which make it great for a date night! Shout out to my waiter whose names slips me but he informed us that the chicken is marinated for 3 days before cooking. Then the potatoes are cooked under the chicken catching all the drippings- yum! The caesar salad was okay nothing really special there so may want to skip that. The chicken sandwich is soo juicy! And it has the infamous white sauce on it (think yogurt based tangy but mild white sauce). I take away a star b/c the sides are really tiny, and for a 32$ whole chicken it could've came with bread complementary! My hungry BF ate the sandwich and split the whole chicken with me as well as two sides and we had nothing to take home! I can't imagine the whole chicken feeding more than 3 adults. However I will return to try the green beans as I heard those are delicious! read more

Do reviewers do a modicum of research before going to a restaurant? Yes, The Fly is a chicken restaurant. You probably shouldn't go here if you don't like chicken or you don't want chicken. It's a very limited menu. If you want something else, there are plenty of other restaurants in the area. We got the chicken, vegetable side, and potatoes. Thought the food was good, if a bit oily. Service was great. It was my birthday and they brought out a wishbone with a candle stuck in it :) Again, it's a chicken restaurant. It IS a teensy bit pricey but otherwise, definitely recommend. read more

Can't speak to the nightlife, but three of us came for chicken sandwiches... The portions were meager at best. It's definitely meant to be coupled with the $8 fries, which were okay, but nothing to write home about. This all might work out if the sandwich was bomb... but... it's also just okay. The 5 stars are for the waitress Ronnie who was AWESOME!!! So incredibly friendly and funnyyyyyy!!! Thank you for being so welcoming! The restaurant itself gets a 3.5 for ambiance and a 4 for food. The food was great, a pricey for just chicken but it was delicious nonetheless. The cocktails where delicious - we had the dark & stormy and the amaretto sours. I haven't had an amaretto sour in about 15yrs and decided to give it a try yesterday, so glad that I did. It was AWESOME! The ambiance: the music was DOPE! Think 90s-2000s Brooklyn block party. BUT walking into this place is like wait what? I did a double take walking in...it's like "Am I still in Brooklyn?" This is by far the whitest bar/restaurant I've ever stepped foot into in Brooklyn...dare I say the 5 boros (and I'm a native New Yorker) so that's saying A LOT! It's so interesting that we're in the middle of Bedstuy/Crown Heights and other than the waitress, us and maybe one other brown person, the rest of the restaurant was white. As a woman of color, I don't walk into places automatically thinking about this HOWEVER it was so obvious that it was hard not to notice. Despite that observation, I didn't feel unwelcomed or uncomfortable but that's also because I know I belong in all these spaces...so don't let this stop you from coming in. You BELONG here and you should come and enjoy the delicious food and cocktails. I'll reiterate again that our waitress Ronnie was incredible! A message to management: continue hiring a diverse wait/host staff that represents the neighborhood/city you're in. read more

Great service and delicious food - the chicken perfectly moist and super flavorful. Sides were great, the salad is definitely overpriced for what you get so would recommend sticking to the green beans and fries (definitely best bang for buck). We ordered a whole chicken for 4 but ended up ordering an extra order of half chicken because we were hungry for more! Unfortunately, the ambience left something to be desired. Try to sit outside or in one of the booths near the front of the restaurant if you can; we sat in the back area which was not only a little cavernous but insanely loud once more people showed up at the surrounding tables. The restaurant could probably benefit from putting some kind of soundproofing foam under the tables because our group could barely hear each other. Probably would have stuck around for another drink or two if it were less rowdy. read more

Racist place.... I came in with my girlfriend ... literally waited for a table for over 10 mins -only for them to swiftly give our table away to a white same sex couple as soon as they walked in. They got seated before we did. I definitely felt that they got the table before we did because they were white and we were black. I was really excited to try this place but was so very disappointed after stopping in yesterday. That chicken is too expensive to be so terrible. If the menu is going to have one main, shouldn't it be the best thing ever?! I could see plenty of seasoning on the chicken, but didn't taste anything special. Some parts were really moist, while others were undercooked. Definitely could have spent 1/4 of that cost at any local grocery and gotten way better quality. First off, the food was great. But the service, not so much. The bartender was not only unhelpful but also rude and judgmental. He made an unsolicited comment to my friend and me that the two drinks we had just finished were his "least favorites on the menu." We asked him for a recommendation for another beverage, and he told us that they were all "classic cocktails, I don't really know what else to say to you" and disgustedly asked how old I was when I said I'd never had a white negroni. This is an inclusive, community-oriented neighborhood. Just because The Fly is open to everyone doesn't mean it's for everyone, and I was made to feel like I didn't belong. read more

I went here looking for Alice, and found The Fly. What a disappointment. Their only entree is rotisserie chicken, and It's terrible!!!. So are the sides. The seasoning is weird. The greens were stringy and overcooked. Somehow they found a way to f**k up potatoes. To add insult to injury, the prices are expensive. $18 for a half a chicken? $30 for a whole chicken that I can get at nearby Met Food and Waverly Market for $5, and better seasoned? On the plus side, the service is good and fast. The wait staff personable. I loved the orange wine. You go to this place for the atmosphere, not for the food. The Fly is a fine, lively bar and the rotisserie chicken schtick is quite smart, but the food just isn't there yet. The chicken was juicy but fell flat with muted flavors (where's the acid or the sharp tinge of garlic) and none of the lacquered skin hours of rendering should produce. I think the fly is fine, but honestly paying over 30 dollars for a whole chicken is insane! It is very good but I kept thinking how I could get a whole chicken from Whole Foods 365 for 8 dollars. I found the esoteric wine list confusing and it was way too loud to ask for help from waitstaff so stuck with beer. A lot of reviews said it was bland but we found it flavorful. A lot of the flavor is in the sauces be sure to dunk each bite and don't cheap out and skip the white sauce. read more

The food is consistently delicious and fresh, the drinks are great, and the service is amazing. Caitlin is an awesome bartender and makes a great martini. John, the manager, is wonderful as well. This was a great new bar that we explored for a date night. Thought we'd have to wait a while for a table but got spots at the bar right when we walked in (admittedly on the earlier side at 630p on a Saturday and it filled up pretty quickly after we sat). Really enjoyed the wine selection of all natural wines and the garlicky greens as well as their chicken were super delicious. Wish we lived closer so we could grab a drink more often! read more

The chicken sandwich is truly excellent but way too small. It was $13 and I definitely would pay a bit more for a sandwich that's like 20% bigger. (Sometimes -- a lot of times -- you don't want fries on the side.) Substantial and unusual (in a good way) wine list. read more
