The Fly Trap is one of our favorite spots in Ferndale, and we make a point to visit as often as we can because we love supporting great local businesses. The service is always friendly and welcoming, and the food is consistently amazing. My personal favorite is the tempeh burger, the homemade tempeh is absolutely delicious and unlike anything you'll find at a typical diner. The salads are also fantastic, fresh, and full of flavor. Great food, decent coffee. I've been here many times. They don't have their yummy grits anymore. Today was the first time I felt a bit ignored - other tables getting more service, no coffee refill when it was noticed to be empty more than once, waiting a while for the bill return so I had to extend my parking meter. I think it was just an off day. Tip: If you use the pay app for the lot behind the restaurant or street parking you must pay for, it is cheaper to buy more time ahead than to extend it later. read more

Retro diner with a fun vibe! The service was EXCELLENT! Fly themed decor everywhere. More seating inside than it looks. We did public parking in back but was free until 11am! Lots of great choices and portions were great. My husband's Huevos Rancheros with chorizo was AMAZING. And my wild mushroom omelette with Gouda, onions and spinach was sooo good. Potatoes okay. I expected more flavor. The sourdough toast had perfect crumb AND their house homemade fruit jam with chai tea was sooo unique and soooo good. Thankful waitress highly recommended we try it. Service was fast and friendly and she even asked if we wanted some coffee to go! And the to go containers were so cute and sealed up well! One small note it was quite chilly. Favorite brunch/breakfast spot while I'm visiting friends in Ferndale!! Even though the place was busy last time we came, we were able to be sat quickly. The staff was very friendly and patient with us while we took our time to figure out what we wanted. Love the lighting and the fly decor everywhere haha. My boyfriend ordered the Irish coffee and I got an orange juice. To eat, we got the forager omelet and the El Burrito Bonito. Both were absolutely delicious and super filling. My omelet came with a side of sourdough which was great. I got the rotating jam/jelly that they make in house which I believe was orange. You can tell this is a local favorite, though it was not my favorite. The vibes inside kind of made me feel like I was in New Orleans. I got the green eggs and ham with the house potatoes and sourdough toast. The ham and potatoes were great, but the texture of the eggs threw off the rest of the meal. I did think it was cool how they always have different flavors for their jam, daily muffin, and entree specials. Kind of torn on The Fly Trap. When you walk in the waiting area isn't huge. You'll place your name on the list and wait to be called- think of it as self service as there's no host. Once seated our waitress wasn't idea. We had to ask for waters multiple times. We did the bottle mimosas and found the juice was in tiny little mason jars- not enough for four people let alone two. It took a while to place our order and there was minimal checking in. Food was okay, nothing special which was a bummer because our friends love this place but a bit of a let down today. We spend $120 on breakfast for four people and I can't help but feel like it wasn't totally worth it. One of my most favorite places!!!! I've been going here over 15 years and every time ITS DELICIOUS. Coffee, drink, food all delish. They have a fill bar, staff is always nice. You may have to wait 10-15 minutes sometimes but cool people are always there so it's now awful. The BLAT+C is my go to...and where is has different homemade jams each time you go?!? I brought my book along to have brunch and a mimosa at The Fly Trap while my husband had a procedure at a nearby hospital. While he's fine, I'm left hoping for another opportunity to visit The Fly Trap. Parking was easy, and the food was great. I was especially happy to get a to-go cup of the ginger lemonade that made up my mimosa, so I could enjoy it in the waiting room for the rest of the morning. Food is 7/10, pricey but not out of bounds. Service here is rough. Came here bc Hanbo was closed. Waiting 20 min for a drink after being sat, to get a guy who can't multitask, so there are huge gaps in service, 30-40 min for food, 20 min to get a check. We were there for well over an hour because the place was crowded but you had someone who can't handle peak time service-he was covering 8-10 2-6 parties. He should have been handling 4 tables max. Been wanting to try The Fly Trap for a long time but never get to Ferndale during the day. Until today. We got there around 12:30 and the place was hopping. Had the feeling most were regulars. I ordered the omelet with sour dough toast and my wife ordered the granola/yogurt with a bunch of other ingredients. My omelet was cooked perfectly and potatoes were delicious and piping hot as they should be. Toast often seems to arrive cold at restaurants but not here! Stopped in for breakfast. 5 minute wait but the joint was hopping. When we left there were a dozen people waiting to be seated. Gigi was our server and she was very pleasant. Always had a smile. My wife got the Huevos Rancheros and they were the best she'd had maybe ever (though she hasn't had it too many times). I got the burrito which was very good. I've been meaning to check out The Fly Trap for some time now and finally got to check it out for brunch! This diner perfectly matches the hipster vibe that Ferndale is known for and feels homey and welcoming. This is the perfect place for a fun weekend brunch! Our waitress was super friendly and recommended we try their new cinnamon roll which is slowly replacing the rotating muffin flavors. Starting with the cinnamon roll because it was TRULY the star of the show! Most cinnamon rolls that I've tried have been overly sweet or too dense. This roll was packed with cinnamon and other warm spices, fluffy and top with a cream cheese frosting that wasn't too sweet. The photo doesn't do it justice but you have to try the cinnamon roll! Can't wait to go back for another one. While I was here I also tried their burger which comes with fries. The burger itself was okay. Nothing too exciting but to be fair they're better known for their classic breakfast foods. The burger was pretty bland and honestly disappointing. Keeping my review at 4 stars because the crab cakes with eggs were a huge hit at our table! The crab cakes were perfectly crispy on the outside, a generous size, and very tasty. Lastly, they make their own hot sauces here and have a variety of unique flavors to try. I had fun trying out difference combinations of sauces with my food. We had to ask numerous times (and staff) for the check; never received condiments we asked for, and the waitress was generally not very kind.
