When you walk into Monty's you can tell it's a living, breathing community spot. My Greek omelette was huge. I usually dose every omelette I have with hot sauce, but I couldn't do that to this omelette. Doing so, especially with the delicious tzatziki sauce would have been a crime, it was perfect as is, especially with the fresh sliced hash browns. My buddy got the eggs Benedict and he insisted I try it, and it had one of the best hollandaise sauces I've had, super thick, good slight lemon bite and some extra spice or spices I couldn't quite place that aren't usually there, but definitely add to it. Keeping the coffee coming is always essential for breakfast, and I honestly think I had too much coffee. We were well taken care of, for sure.. When Yelpers describe Monty's as small, you should believe them! I counted nine counter seats and five high-tops for two. We had been planning lunch here for a couple of months and, finally, because most of our lunch group was out of town or had conflicts, we were small enough to fit. As usual, we faithfully studied the photos and reviews to narrow our choices. They're open from 7 am to 3 pm. Not surprisingly, most of the photos are of breakfast choices but they do have a variety of lunch items as well. I was determined to try a Burger or other Sandwich in order to add more lunch photos. But then I saw the specials boards and they had an Irish Omelet! Never had one before so had to have one - NOW. My wife was impressed with the Veggie Skillet photos and stayed with that choice. While waiting for our friends, we ordered Coffee and split a homemade Bowl of Split Pea Soup (see what I did there?), fresh and delicious. The Veggie Skillet was three eggs, cooked to your liking, on lots of Veggies and Potatoes! It came with Toast and she chose Cinnamon Raisin Toast for an extra $0.75; it was voluminous enough that we took some home to finish later. The Irish Omelet had Corned Beef, Green Peppers, Onions, and Swiss Cheese in it and came with choices for sides. I chose Fried Potatoes and Wheat Toast. Mine was a great choice and appropriate for the season; nothing artificially green, and the Potatoes had the right amount of crisp for my taste. My wife thought, however, that the Swiss Cheese should have been Dubliner (Irish Cheddar) instead because, after all, it was called an Irish Omelet. My wife from Japan is more Irish than me! The owner/operators, Bardha and John, are great people, fun to talk with, and will keep the coffee coming. Hand Sanitizer was available on the counter as well, in tune with the current Coronavirus scare. Started with fresh squeezed OJ, Meat lovers skillet with rye toast and scrabbled eggs, a veggie skillet with turkey sausage added, feta instead of Swiss cheese and eggs scrambled and hash browns well done and on the side. Open every day. It's a small cozy spot. 5 2-top tables and 12 counter top seats. They use all fresh veggies here. The fresh squeezed OJ is thick and good too. Monty I heard passed away a couple of years ago. The meat lover skillet has ham, sausage and bacon. The veggie omelet has broccoli, onions, mushrooms, green peppers and tomatoes, along with turkey sausage add-on and feta in place of Swiss. It's okay, just your average local diner. Breakfast is the go to choice for Monty's, at least it's all I've ever ordered. With inflation finally hitting everyone, the latest menu prices now require dine in to get the better deals offered, it's no longer the super cheap go-to hangover breakfast spot or spot to visit when you're able to wake up before 11 on a weekend for breakfast. Now it's the go-to breakfast spot if you're too lazy to cook breakfast at home. The staff is friendly and there are food specials/deals that are available on chalkboard in restaurant but are not on menu. So if you're curious you can call to find out what they are before you visit in person. Breakfast items: Their French toast is great and would advise you to get!!! Sausage was good and bacon was decent. Ham was better than I remembered and had nice sweet & Smokey flavor. Their potatoes were okay larger cut instead of the fine cut straws that some places serve. Scrambled eggs didn't have any salt or flavor added, would advise to go with sunny side up or over easy eggs to get that yolk sauce. I would normally give 3 stars for food quality and selection but since they used to be really cheap and still have a really friendly atmosphere, going with the trend and giving them a 4 stars. read more

We came here with the intent on having breakfast food, but I strayed from the plan. I ordered the fried fish (cod) instead. The pieces were overcooked and greasy. I was able to replace it so I chose the fried shrimp this time. It was an improvement, but both are the basic frozen food items. Bardha, the owner is the coolest! She is fun to talk to and her son is the chef. Everything on the menu is good! I love the omelets, the skillets, the hamburgers and the salads. They prepare everything right in front of you. If you want grilled pita with your omelet, OK! They aim to please! Be prepared for the conversation with other patrons. The conversation with other patrons is great, I've only been once where their wasn't lively chatter. The bar is long with many seats, and their are also tables available. It is situated near a motel, completely camouflaged by the surroundings. It was a lazy, post call morning and I was craving a good american breakfast at a laid back diner. I've passed by this place for years and never gave it a second thought. One day my friend and I were talking about a new breakfast place to try and decided to give it a go. She ended up getting a Philly cheesesteak omelette and I got the corned beef hash. The food was insanely good, and I'd give this place 5 stars, but it took over an hour to get our food. I totally understand that it was just the sweet woman and a young gentleman working, but they were clearly overwhelmed. She was very apologetic about our food being delayed, which I appreciated. Go ahead and add me to the list of Monty's customers that have been coming here for a long time. First started coming here with my family in the mid-80's. It was also a favorite haunt while skipping class (High School) in the mid-90's. While I remain nostalgic for the bacon-wrapped hot dog of glory of yesterday (aka the Swanky Franky), I can say with confidence that the food at Monty's has never been better than it has since Alex took over the place. He puts a lot of TLC into the menu and into every single dish that he prepares. You can taste the love as well as the quality of the ingredients used. Monty's is now an old-school classic small diner with just the right amount of new-school flair. Good honest atmosphere and good honest food. As other reviewers have mentioned, the Corned Beef Hash is exceptional. So are the Omelettes. If you enjoy the corned beef hash, let me recommend the corned beef & swiss omelette. Or the gyro omelette. Or any of Alex's omelettes, really. They are exceptional. And if you come in between 7a-9a on M-F the omelettes are all only $4.95! That's a total steal for the early-birds. They'll run you a couple bucks or so more during regular hours and are still a good deal even at the normal price. I haven't tried anything off Alex's lunch menu yet but everything looks great and I will definitely get around to trying it one of these days. I'm fairly new to Monty's Grill. Just had my 2nd visit this week. This place is exactly what I want in a diner, pub, or restaurant. The service is friendly and fast, The food is really good, and the prices are decent. On my first visit, I let the waitress order for me. She brought me a BBQ burger with onion rings. When considering the price and taste, it isn't that far off from a Red Coat burger. Nice thick patty, toasted bun and standard toppings based on burger. I'm not a huge fan of onion rings but I found myself going back and continuously eating them. This place is definitely a regulars place as everyone seems to know everyone. Nothing wrong with this. The burger is good enough for me to order the exact same one on my last visit...Yeah, and I got the onion rings again. I did read that from 7-9 all omelettes are 4.99. I believe omelettes come with hash browns and toast. I can see myself becoming a regular. read more

I had intentions of hitting up the Original Pancake House for waffles but the line out the door sent us heading south to Ferndale until my girl mentioned her sister's favorite dive for breakfast. This spot has been bookmarked in my queue for years but I just haven't gotten here until now. It's next to a really skeevy motel but don't let that deter you at all. It's not much to look at and there isn't loads of seating but I'm really glad I found out what this place is about. We sat at the corner table and ordered omelets. I had the Corned Beef and Swiss with an English muffin and potatoes. Rose was our server and while she was engaged in some heavy conversation about her Yankees and our Tigers with the locals at the bar, she kept the coffee coming. My omelet was great. The corned beef here is legit. I'll be getting the hash next time around. I'm not sure what it was but something in my omelet had some spicy heat to it and it was just what I needed...hopefully that's the norm. The potatoes were great and they have Smucker's Strawberry so I was super happy. Definitely a breakfast spot we'll be back for. A very small but clean diner attached to a run down motel off busy Woodward Avenue. Very cramped and limited seating. The staff is friendly and fast. The breakfast food is really great quality tasty diner food. My wife says the hash browns are the best she has ever had. Good value for the money.
