Aside from the fact that this place was actually open when everything else was closed on a late Monday, this worked out to be an amazing food and drink option while visiting from out of state. This is the kind of place where you walk in knowing no one and leave with ten new friends. The staff, the patrons, everyone here is inviting and friendly with the sole intent of having a great time. We sat at the bar taking in the NOLA creole vibes for a bit before figuring out what to drink and our bartender never rushed us and offered helpful tips along the way before we settled on the rum runner which is highly recommended! Cold, fresh, fruity, and lots of rum... when in Rome... We were in search of great seafood while in town and we were a bit surprised at how amazing the food was. I wouldn't call this quite a dive bar but it's certainly not the Ritz. You expect decent food and good prices but we were blown away at the quality of the seafood. We had the Flounder, scallops, fried shrimp, and the crab / crawfish cakes with the roumalade. Throw in some wings with the tiger sauce as a happy accident and we were set. For the locals I'm sure you can find great seafood easily but this is some of the best I've had in a long time. We are very satisfied and would make this a frequent spot if we lived in the area. These guys were so great that we ended up visiting twice during our vacation in Port St. Joe! On our first visit, we rolled into town late (around 10:30-11:00 p.m.) and were just looking for a place to grab a bite. The Flying Harpoon was one of the only restaurants still open, so we honestly weren't expecting much--but we were pleasantly surprised! Jamie was our server, and she was fantastic. She was friendly, attentive, and offered honest recommendations that were spot on. I ordered the half-and-half basket with fried shrimp and fried grouper and substituted gumbo for the fries. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. I also love a good Rum Runner while vacationing in Florida, and theirs was strong, flavorful, and perfect. My husband and daughter thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. Thank you, Jamie, and the entire team, for taking such great care of us. good food found in a dive location. stopped by for a late dinner . it was still busy with a couple of large family groups. the decor wants to be themed New Orleans but is more just streamers and coloring sheets on the wall. foid came out hit and tasted fresh but the servers appeared stressed . the couple next to us waited over twenty minutes before being acknowledged. if your in the area you will likely find something you will enjoy on this limited menu but i don't know that i would make an out of the way stop to return. read more

Okay so what is a vegetarian doing in this probably seafood place? Had to make a pit stop somewhere for lunch and just walked into this dive bar. It has a very mixed vibe, the New Orleans vibe being majority. There are random knick-knacks that remind you of New Orleans including masks and beads. All of my options were close to zero when I explained my dietary needs. The bartenders and the staff were very kind to let me know that they had an extra baked potato in the back that they would make it vegetarian for me and loaded if that's what I would like. I said a loud yes as I was hungry and because they were kind to offer. They came back with so many fixings for one hot potato that I truly had to commend their service and their heart. It's been a couple weeks since I'm writing these reviews, but the people in this picture who work there are truly genuinely nice and want to make sure that your drink experience in food experiences through the roof. I had one of their boozy drinks and trust me the booze was boozing. Great conversations, happy staff, happy bellies and buzzy minds... Definitely consider stopping by the flying harpoon. This was the #1 Yelp recommendation and it lived up to the hype! Go around the corner from the main little strip of restaurants and shops and you'll find the Flying Harpoon. Walk in and start admiring the wall art. Music, movies, psychedelia. Super fun vibes. Our server was super chill and friendly. Recommended the shrimp salad and it did not disappoint. She had been working there since the opening so that shows how great the atmosphere is. This is the only place that stays open till 12!!! THIS is what Old Florida used to be! The vibe in the Harpoon is like "Cheers", IYKYK. Mama Dem makes you feel like you came home for dinner, not visiting an over priced, soulless, tourist trap many other places in PSJ have devolved into. It's worth the visit just to feel at home while away from home. Of course the homey feel and outstanding service from people who truly care about you is a definitive draw, but in addition the food is excellent! Flounder basket is a favorite of our crew, huge pieces of perfectly cooked, lightly breaded sweetness, fried oysters are the same. Po boys are top shelf, but the real surprise is the jambalaya. Just get it all the way, you won't be sorry. If Mama Dem is working, ask her for one of her off the menu drinks, just go with whatever she makes you (or recommends from the menu as well), she's a pro and only adds to the value of this PSJ institution. read more

Best crab legs in Port St Joe! Crab legs have always been huge clusters, easy to crack and retrieve whole pieces of meat. However, unless you eat seafood, menu selections are quite limited. Bar drinks are strong. Restaurant space is small so sometimes a long wait is to be had. Depending on time of day, service can be slow however if you ask for the kid from Hendersonville Tn, you will be well taken care of. read more
