Updating our review from yesterday. After hearing about our situation Brian, the GM of the TFL Boston, was able to schedule a technician for today, Tuesday. Mark, Tech with TFL, arrived this morning and did a great job replacing the striker and making sure the new striker fit in properly. Everything is back in working order! Thank you Brian and Mark! A bit concerned. We were referred to Flying Locksmith for our access control system for a 38 unit residential building. Flying Locksmith presented a proposal and though a bit expensive, Flying Locksmith represented that they had the technical expertise and ability to install and service the system being installed. Needless to say a short 6 weeks later the system stopped working preventing the main door to the property from locking. We called Flying Locksmith and even agreed to pay emergency service rates. Flying Locksmith then called back and said that because it is a FOB system they cannot just send a locksmith so we would have to wait 4 days. Argh! Flying Locksmith might be great at just simple keys and simple door locks but not sure about their ability to handle more modern door locking systems. read more

Bought a home that has sliding back doors and didn't come with keys for them. Super cool, I know. Anyway, found these folks on Google with rave reviews. My hubs did all the heavy work here to include contacting them, sending them photos of the locks/brands (honestly, locks really don't show much info on them... go stare at yours, you'll see), and planning for someone to come give us a quote. Day for the quote comes. They told hubs they'll give him 30 min notice so he can get home from work. Dude (the tech) was AT MY HOUSE before he contacted hubs (may not be Dude's fault, but it sure was somebody's fault). So hubs gets there and... little did we know, but "come give us a quote" actually turned into not having a clue how much we were going to need to pay as the guy's actively working on the door. Dude checks out the doors, says it'll be $135 for two doors ($85 of which is a "driving fee" for just going to your house... seems odd, whatever). Dude asks how we'd be paying and hubs says check because he's informed hubs a credit card has a 3-6% fee (isn't that typically on the vendor, not the individual? whatever). Dude didn't even know who to make the check out to, so that was weird. Anyway, he's several minutes into the work and asks for the original keys. Let's scroll allllllll the way to the top of my review and remind ourselves that this started because WE HAVE NO KEYS and this was communicated in hub's early emails to the company. Anyway, hubs is then informed that there's an extra fee of $5/lock if you don't have keys. This quote is clearly not a quote. SHEW. Y'ALL. This isn't even the weirdest part. I absolutely hate typing this. Dude told hubs he'd cut him $10 off the price if he'd promise to give him a 5-star review. (1) My husband isn't the biggest reviewer and (2) HOW INAPPROP?!?!?! Nope. Love hubs, he said no because that's not okay. Anyway, the total was $20 over the quote. Not huge, but everything about this was weird. The work was good. Our doors now have keys that lock the door. I called the The Flying Locksmiths to get a quote for re-keying 6 locks, 3 door handles and deadbolts. The quote was 35 per lock, (35x6) $210.00 plus $135.00 service fee for a total of $345.00 with 1 key. When I asked if there was any flexibility with this quote, the response was a firm no. I ended up purchasing brand new knob and deadbolt sets for 180.00 (included 6 keys) and installed them myself. read more

Would never recommend The Flying Locksmith. An issue I had with my condo wasn't fixed until 3-4 months later because the part was on back order & they never updated me. I had to keep calling to see the hold up. They ended up not even being able to fix the intercom. Instead installed a smart-lock and charged me $1600... They also ended up someone damaging the intercom system in the process & wouldn't come out to fix it. They are super expensive. read more

I wanted a trustworthy, friendly, timely locksmith that wouldn't cheat me and was interested in restoring or helping preserve the old lock - and I found one! The Flying Locksmiths were on time. Set up an appointment a couple of days in advance and called me a half hour before their scheduled arrival. They arrived exactly on time and the technician worked hard to save the fixture! They did save it as best as they could and gave me great advice on what I could do if I need to when (cause it's only a matter of time) this thing completely falls apart. I called to get an estimate for my aunt who was worried about her safety because she just issued an restraining order on someone. Her locks were old, easily could be broken into with a simple credit card of butter knife. I spoke to a representative at the braintree location and he was very professional and informative of what my aunt may need. I asked him for estimates because she is in a low income household and he even got creative how we could protect her the best and cheapest way. The technician was able to come out the same day within an hour of our call. He was really friendly and kind. He even gave my aunts tips on how to better her security. He did, however, have to come back the next day with a part that they had on back order, but he was so pleasant, my aunt is looking forward to see him again! I had this company come to my business to look at a lock on a security gate that was loose. To their credit, they showed up when they said they would and did the work that I expected them to do. My surprise was when I received their bill. Not only was I charged a $95.00 service call fee (probably common in this business), a $75.00 labor charge (for 20 minutes of work) but there was a $10.00 "supplies charge" apparently for the $5.95 part that was needed to complete the repair. This company charged me $10.00 for the privilege of buying a small part from them. So, a minor, quickly rectified problem with a security gate lock ended up costing me $186.00! I will definitely shop around a bit before I hire another locksmith as to me, these charges seem a little excessive for such simple work. read more

Don't ever call them in emergency. Completely unreliable. Locked myself out of the house with two small kids. They said it would be 30 min. An out 45 min I called to check. Was on hold. The guy was completely not sympathetic to my problem of being in TX in hot weather with 2 kids. He just said - you need to wait another 15 min and save your phone charge and don't talk to me. An hour and a half later I get a call from a lady (their manager, I suppose) who said that the technician can't come. He's in the hospital and they should've never taken that order. Absolutely unacceptable service. Especially from the guy who took my order, gave me false hopes, told me to wait longer when I called to check in and was completely indifferent to my issue. I had a great experience fixing a home lock with The Flying Locksmiths. I tried the local hardware stores, but have found time and time again that they are lacking when it comes to actual lock and key knowledge. When I came back home I had a few nice looking keys that wouldn't open my door. I was sick of wasting my time and money so I called the Flying Locksmiths. Called a full day ahead to ask for a basic key change on a lock to a residence for a client that was hospitalized. I requested the first appointment so I could be at the residence before heading into the office and was told they would try to accommodate my request. The following morning I called for an ETA and I was advised that I was now the second call and they were already at the first job before 9 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. I called again and was told that it would be several more hours before the could get to me. When he was forty five minutes late, I called the main number. I was told they would be here shortly. After an hour and fifteen minutes, I called again. I have used the Flying Locksmiths in Randolph in the past and they were great - but it has been a few years. The older staff - who may not be there anymore - were customer-focused and excellent. The young guys manning the store now are pathetic and useless. Their demeanor and attitude is anything but customer friendly (more like you are making their life tough than they are serving a customer). Went in for a key fob replacement - was crystal cleaar about it on the phone and in person and all they did was cut me a key (not a replacement key fob) and wanted to charge me $75 - after himming and hawing about how tough a job it might be. Very unprofessional, these clowns can't do anything more than cut a key. Zero customer service, zero customer listening skills, and horrible attitudes.
