What I'm about to write seems very similar to other reviews - so buyer beware, you're better off going with another company if you value your time. I reached out to The Flying Locksmiths via their online chat function. On a positive note, the person I dealt with was very responsive and very courteous - answered all my questions and I got a quote very quickly. When it came time to schedule an appointment, i once again reached out via the chat function. I requested to be the first appointment on a Tuesday. The rep answering chat (whom i will not name out of respect) confirmed I would be the first spot, between 8-9am. Her exact words were "The only way that would change would be if an emergency came in, in which case it would get moved to the second spot. But we will shoot for first stop!" A day prior to the appointment, I once again reached out via chat to confirm and was told "Yes, you are still scheduled for the first stop of the day as of right now! It will be between 8-9am and we will also call you on the way!" I needed to square things away with work as I do not work close to my home. I received no phone call the morning of the appt, so i figured everything was on time. Around 9am, I called and was told "You shouldn't have been told you were the first spot, there's someone ahead of you, and the owners have the ability to move around times to how they see fit...right now someone is scheduled to come out to you between 930-1130." Annoyed by this, I thanked the woman and proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait. Around 11:15am I called again as no one had reached out to say they were on the way. This time another individual answered the phone and told me that I was next, but that the technician was still working on another job and was about 20 miles away...definitely was not going to be there before 11:30. Thoroughly frustrated by the complete lack of respect for my time and the fact that I confirmed they would be there between 8-9 UNLESS there was an emergency, I decided to cancel the appointment. I was then contacted via email by the same rep that initially helped me set up the appointment, who proceeded to tell me that she was "Sorry I felt this way" and "I explained to you then and once again after that we would call you on the way to avoid any confusion. Good luck with whoever you end up using, and have a great day." I even showed this rep screen grabs of our original conversation where she confirmed 8-9am and she still didn't get it. I think they think saying "We'll call you on the way" is their way to get out of any time commitment. Long story short, I just made an appointment with A A Better Locksmith out of Pawtucket, RI. They were easy to deal with and are committing to a weekend time (Something Flying Locksmith will not do, not unless you pay for an emergency/extra charge). I am going out of my way to write this lengthy review because of how screwed over by Flying Locksmiths I'm feeling. 4 hours of my life wasted on waiting for them. Terrible communication, terrible customer service...avoid them. I will make sure none of my friends or family ever use this company. What's a shame is that as a kid, I remembered seeing the van with the guy on a flying key on top driving around the south shore of Massachusetts. That funny van would make me smile, and when I needed a locksmith, they were the first people I thought of. If only I would've known just how profoundly disappointed I would've been. read more

The lock to our office had been freezing up in the cold weather and one of our employees snapped a key off in the lock. Flying Locksmiths came out quickly the next day, however for all the effort they put into what appears to be drilling out the lock cylinder and replacing it, we still struggled to lock the door the evening after they were here. As an added benefit the lock looks like it was hacked at with a hammer and pick and the cylinder wiggles in and out. And now, once again, a key is stuck in the lock. I would have expected the lock to work like new after paying for professional service. read more

I wish I had asked for a quote before having them come out, but it never crossed my mind that rekeying 4 cores would cost more than replacing 2 deadbolts and a knob! If you can change the hardware yourself than don't waste your time and money here. I could've purchased all new hardware mentioned above for $120 at the hardware store, but somehow rekeying the 4 cores cost me $175! read more

I had just bought my first home. I was frantically looking for a locksmith. I contacted a well-known company (The Flying Locksmith) but their professionalism was null and void. I had read negative reviews on Yelp that I took into consideration. I went against my better judgment. I scheduled an appointment at 3p and received a call at 9a to change the locks. The gentleman that called was extremely rude. They in fact never came and didn't even reschedule, upon calling I was told that I would be the second appointment the following day and they apologize for the confusion. That following day I received a call and once again the gentleman was telling me they would be at my home later. When I tried to ask for a time frame he kept repeating like a broken record or like he was reading a script that they are a service and he couldn't give me a time. I received a call at 2p and I said I'm canceling the order. I would never use them again or refer them to anyone. read more

HORRIFIC! I really wished I would have checked this site before calling , because it would have saved us another uselessly spent $100 to still have the same problem. Having recently come on board with a community non-profit in Dorchester, I noticed that the Flying Locksmith had previously been called due to our door not completely closing. I was also informed that they had come out several times before saying the situation was rectified but it kept recurring. Having not known exactly what transpired in my absence, I called and specifically asked if there would be a charge to have a tech come to simply ASSESS the situation and provide us with a written ESTIMATE of what would be needed to rectify it. After being reassured that there would not be a charge, I scheduled a visit. The tech showed up while I was in a meeting, did 'something' and had the unknowing receptionist sign the work order. When I came out I was told that the tech had 'fixed' the problem, but as soon as I checked the door...guess what? I then called to explain that I didn't even call for service, but an ESTIMATE and was told because a work order had already been signed, we were ultimately responsible. I was also told that I would be contacted by Barry the owner, who I never heard from, but I did receive an invoice in the mail today. Normally I would hesitate to call a company's operations scamming, but I don't know how else to categorize this experience. I have since contacted The City of Boston and was referred to a more reputable locksmith. read more

Excellent Service. Booked the appointment. Came right out. Mark was extremely knowledgeable. All my locks are keyed the same. Made me all the copies I needed. Extremely friendly. This is a great company. I would use them again. My realtor told me she recommends them to everyone and nobody has ever had an issue. read more

Found the service to be VERY POOR. Set up appointments with this place twice and both times they bailed out at the very last minute not giving enough time to set up an alternate with another place - was done after closing hours 4:00 pm. Don't know where they get off advertising 24 hr service. They did give a referral for another locksmith that was just as bad. STAY AWAY!! read more

I have used Flying Locksmith for several years and I will tell you they are top notch in every way. It starts when you call them super service in every way. I called Flying Locksmiths because I needed to have my door locks rekeyed. They set up an appointment within a week of my phone call. They arrived within the 4 hour window that they gave me and called me approximately 30 minutes before the locksmith showed up. They worked efficiently and in fact fixed one problem with my door handle. The bill was exactly what they quoted me. I absolutely plan to use them again. read more

It really just comes down to the following question: how do you want to be treated? My wife told me she wanted me to make more keys for the apartment but I wasn't sure where some of the others were so I decided to do a complete lock change. We live in a building with high security locks so I needed to find a qualified locksmith and explain the particulars of my lock. I started with the buildings recommended Vendor - City Lock. Thirty seconds into explaining my situation, the a-hole cuts me off and says, "do you have a specific questions for me?" Other than "do you have any idea how to run a business," I didn't, so I hung up the phone and did some research. That's when I found the Flying Locksmith. Not only was their staff incredibly friendly on the phone, the took the time to listen to my needs and assure me they could handle the job. They scheduled an appointment, they showed up on time, they were beyond professional, and their work was flawless. They also took the time to follow up and make sure I was satisfied. I've made the recommendation to the board of my building that we only use TFL going forward. I'd give these guys 6 stars if it was an option! Thank you TFL! read more

i called them cause my dog was locked in my bedroom. the call was answered quite quickly and i told the lady who answered the phone what was going on and she asked me for my zip code... i told her and she looked for an available tech in my area.... after a semi long pause she asked if she could put me on a brief hold which i accepted.... about a 3 min hold time and she came back and said that there were no techs available but she was going to transfer me to someone who was going to give me a referral to someone else... ok that was also fine. a few second hold and some guy with an accent came on the line who was nice and courteous told me that he didnt have any techs avaiable in my area and he was going to give me a number to pop a lock and they would take care of me. i asked him to hold on for a sec while i found a pen. i found one and said to go ahead with the number... he gave it to me and upon me reading it back for comfirmation he told me that he was going to call instead to make sure they took good care of me.... ok i said.... a lil odd but okay. he put me on another brief hold then connected me to someone named paige who took down my address and number and said they would have someone at my house within 30-45 min.... i now know why he wanted to connect me directly... it was so i wouldnt be able to go and reasearch the comapny..... the pop a lock tek arrived very fast. too fast for one company to be super booked and another to seem like they had nothing to do. anyway he was here no longer than five min.... he stuck a friggen pioece of plastic in my door and it popped open... i went in to check on my dog and get a check book while he went for the invoice.... he comes back $95 dollars please..... now im not the type to say something to someine about the price of anything.... i dont like confriontation nor do i like to seem like im cheap..... so i wrote the check. idk how much the flying ones would have cost me but i dont think i have ever been so ripped off in my life. so much for being taken care of. thanks dude with the accent. next time im going to pay one of those ones that advertise $15 dollar services..... or maybe use my credit card to open the door.... ironic....... read more

I hired Flying Locksmiths in Randolph on Thurs, July 25, 2013 to do a fairly big job and fired them the following Monday - why? - rotten customer service. I contacted Flying Locksmiths (FL) this morning (July 29th) at 8:40 a.m. asking what time they would arrive at the site having heard nothing from FL about a time to meet. The gentleman who answered the phone advised me that they were on their way to the job site. Advising that I needed about a half hour - forty minutes to get ready and arrive at the job site , the gentleman on the phone started a testy exchange with me that ended with him telling me I should leave my home in 5 minutes -- I did the best I could to accommodate him actually leaving my home in about 15 minutes. On my way to the job site, I stopped at FL (which was on the way to the site) to speak personally with the gentleman who I spoke with minutes ago and was given more rotten attitude by him. On my way out the door, he said to me "good luck". I responded "what do you mean, good luck?" The gentleman responded "good luck that they'll be there." At that point, I fired the Flying Locksmith. Realizing that I needed the job done today, I decided to grin and bear it contacting FL again about an hour later at 9:50 a.m. asking if it was possible that they do the job. The gentleman who I had spoken with earlier answered the phone and chastised me again and, then, HUNG UP ON ME. In addition, because of FL, I felt it necessary to delay the delivery of home appliances to the job site by five days not knowing when I could get another locksmith on site. As an aside, the young man I spoke with when I stopped into FL to hire them for the job was very nice. After arriving home, I went online and contacted Codman Lock in Dorchester. The gentleman who answered the phone was very nice explaining that, unfortunately, the technician who traveled to on site jobs would be out for a few days. He then recommended Aborn Lock Service in Jamaica Plain who, after a brief discussion, advised he would be contacting me today with an hour lead time to meet onsite to discuss the job -- thank goodness there is more than one locksmith in town. read more

I called Flying Locksmiths in Randolph on Monday morning to have locks at my new home re keyed. We were also having an issue with our back door popping open even when locked- this was really worrying me and I wanted to get it fixed as soon as possible. I was told they'd be out that day or the next morning and to call back after 1 if I hadn't received a call. I called around 3:45 pm to ask if they could give me a time frame for the next morning since I had to be at work. I was told we were the first on the schedule for the morning and someone would be there by 9:30 at the latest. Around 10:30 on Tuesday no one had called or showed up yet so I made a phone call. I was told by a different person that we were on the schedule for sometime after 1pm and they're not supposed to give time frames because they have no idea when they'll be able to get to their next appointment. So apparently customers are supposed to sit around their house all day waiting for a locksmith to show up. I think it's unacceptable as far as customer service goes. Even the cable company gives you a 2 hour time frame. They should be working around the customer's schedule, not the other way around! I immediately called a 24 hour locksmith in Quincy who came to my house within the hour and was very professional. I would never recommend the Flying Locksmiths in Randolph. read more
