I would like to say I planned the perfect date, but as some of the best things in life, this was just an impromptu visit to cap off an already great evening. Outside of being on the rooftop, the bar itself is upscale yet approachable, service was fast and friendly. Being a bit of a self engrandized home bartender I'm a bit critical when out of my home lab, but their Smoked Old Fashioned wasn't bad. ("Wasn't bad" really means very good.") While I don't love the prices and hate paying a cover charge, when you throw in live music, a great vibe, and a view, I can't really complain. The owner made an announcement that whoever tipped the band $10 would get a free drink, and since most drinks were over $15 I thought that was cool on many levels. A woman standing behind us who had arrived after we did was approached by the bartender and had her order taken first. I'm not going to speculate about the reason, but sitting there and watching it happen certainly didn't make us feel welcome. At that point I decided not to order anything because I already had doubts about staying. My wife ordered a glass of white wine that was supposed to be a 6 oz pour. When it arrived, we both questioned the amount. I even noticed other glasses of wine at a nearby table that appeared to have considerably larger pours. I've included a photo so people can judge for themselves. We weren't looking for special treatment because it was our anniversary. We simply expected the same basic level of acknowledgement and service as everyone else. It's unfortunate because we came in genuinely excited to try a local place and celebrate together. The atmosphere has potential, but our first impression of the service made us feel like we'd be better off spending our anniversary somewhere else.

Over several visits, I've noticed that certain security personnel seem to pay an unusual amount of attention to us. At first, I brushed it off. There have been instances where it felt like security was watching us closely and waiting for an opportunity to confront us. I didn't want to assume the worst, but the pattern became difficult to ignore. Last night, things escalated. We were sitting at the bar, ordered food, and took it outside to the patio. Before we went outside, security specifically reminded us to make sure we paid our tab before leaving. We did exactly that and paid our tab before we left the building. As we were walking out, the same security personnel came rushing after us insisting that we needed to pay. We explained that the tab had already been paid, but instead of simply verifying it with the bartender or checking the register, the situation escalated. My friend was physically pushed by security, and what followed became an extremely serious and dangerous confrontation. What bothers me most is that this could have been handled so easily. If there was a question about our tab, simply check the payment. There was absolutely no reason for the situation to become physical. I'm not going to label the experience as racism simply because we felt singled out, nor am I going to make an accusation of homophobia that I can't definitively prove. However, we are two gay Black men, and the repeated scrutiny and aggressive treatment from certain security personnel has made us question whether our presence is genuinely welcome. I want to emphasize that some of the bartenders have always been kind to us, which makes this even more frustrating. My issue is specifically with the way certain security personnel are interacting with customers. Management should seriously review how their security staff are trained to approach and de-escalate situations. Customers should not leave a neighborhood bar feeling watched, targeted, or physically unsafe. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because we genuinely enjoyed coming here before this experience.

The backdrop to this venue is Lake Lanier Itself. The lake was busy this weekend. Several boaters dropped anchor near the venue to listen the the music. I am not sure what the capacity is for this place. You sit in reclined chairs that are positioned starting from the concession areas leading down to the stage. The chairs are on a terraced lawn. The breeze coming off of the lake is refreshing. The sound is very good. When I arrived I expected this to be loud and filled with echoes. However, the sound was directed well and not dispersed. After all it is an outdoor venue. We went to the Shamrock Festival. This event lasted around twelve hours. We had a good time. I enjoyed all the bands especially Departure and Back in Black. It is a straight shot off of 985 going towards Lake Lanier. Take the First right at the round a bout. 57/100

I caught 3 of the 4 nights with my brother and they were a blast. Such a thrill to see a band I've been following for two decades in the place where it all started for them. The club itself is a gem-- easy entry process, clean restrooms, not a bad spot in the house, perfect size venue for an active but intimate show. Friendly staff who appreciate the fans and the music. To top it all off-- incredibly cheap drinks. I'm talking about $3-$5 beers (the latter for tallboys), $6 or less well drinks, and almost nothing for more than $10. Coming from Nashville where even the diviest of music venues are starting to charge 2-3x those prices during shows, it was a revelation. The club is steps away from great record stores, bars, and places to grab a bite. Highly, highly recommended.
