My first impression of this place was how beautiful it looked inside. From the outside it gave warehouse vibes but once you step in it's spacious and has more of a sports bar feel. I ordered the sampler so I could try a little bit of everything and overall it wasn't bad. My only complaint coming from Texas is that the brisket was a bit dry. Other than that if you're looking for a different kind of BBQ spot with a unique atmosphere The Fishin' Pig is definitely worth checking out. 4/5 for the BBQ can't complain the family had a good time and our waitress was awesome. read more

There was a time when the Smartmouth Pilot House had rotating food trucks instead of one permanent one and I'd walk over to play food truck roulette frequently. The Flying Pig was one of those spots that kept popping up. I was a big fan of the loaded ribbon fries. They were covered in toppings and so delicious. I'd eat it like a meal and always have leftovers that were still good even when they were a little soggy a few hours later. My friend tried their BBQ sandwich once and was disappointed so I didn't stray from the ribbon fries since they were a guaranteed hit for me every time. read more

OMGOSH! This was the best pulled pork barbecue sandwich I have ever had in my entire life! I cannot even begin words cannot even describe how good this Sandwich was. I thought it had the perfect amount of chard smokehouse flavored the sauce and the coleslaw together were so delicious, the Texas Pete was almost unnecessary (i didn't want him to feel left out. LOL). It's a little irritating to see their score of three which is a complete misrepresentation of the food I ate tonight. As I read through the previous reviews most people were complaining because of the wait times. There is a wait because it's so damn good! Be fair rate them on their food. I really hate to give them a two star review but the food was really not good. The customer service was top notch! The lady who took my order was really nice. My tacos were soggy, wet and flavorless. Then the nachos looked good but they were soggy as well. It was lacking flavor and the meat seemed like canned meat. No one in my family enjoyed their food. I had the great fortune of visiting Malbon's BBQ truck "The Flying Pig" today at the food truck rodeo at Whole Foods at Hilltop in Virginia Beach. I got the BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich and shared it with my wife. It was loaded with great flavorful and lean brisket. The slaw was great and the chips - fresh cut and fried taters were great. The food truck was at Farmhouse Brewery tonight with 4 other food trucks. I was craving BBQ so decided to order from The Flying Pig. What a disappointment. Had to wait for over 30 minutes for a small portion of BBQ with lots of chunks of fat, highly smoked taste and soggy hush puppies and about tablespoon of coleslaw. That wasn't the worst part!!! They were OUT OF BBQ SAUCE!! And we're not making anymore. Who wanted plain BBQ without BBQ sauce. Please note we ordered at 7:50pm. Got the food around 8:35 pm. Food truck was scheduled like others from 5 to 9. Had we. So much flavor, the bun tasted super fresh, my side was potato salad and it was so good I couldn't stop eating until there was nothing less of course. I absolutely love food trucks... they typically have a limited menu of AMAZING food. I will seek out a food truck before a restaurant sometimes. I wish I hadn't. The coleslaw is just cut cabbage. Nothing on it at all. The pulled pork was akin to dried baby food... with about as much flavor. The hush puppies were dry and flavorless. To say I was disappointed is and understatement. I did get the nachos, which were good and the BBQ sauce (that they ration like it's gas in the 40s) was also good. But, anything good was off set by the RIDICULOUS prices. I mean, seriously outlandish. I paid $30 for approximately 1/4 cup of baby food pork, a small ramekin of chopped cabbage, 4 flavorless Sahara desert hushpuppies, and a snack bad worth of chips and nacho toppings. The 5 for $5 meal at Wendy's has more food. Don't bother going to this place. It's not worth your time, energy, or most importantly... money. read more

I waited a ridiculously long wait, around 1-hour plus. The food was pricey for the portions. I kept waiting maybe thinking it was going to be great since there was a God size line before I ordered. I was wrong. Slaw wasn't horrible but the pork... No buddy or buddett, not good. Malbon's food truck is at my work some Friday's. I've tried the pulled pork sandwich which comes on a potato roll. Tasty but North Carolina vinegar BBQ is not my preference. The second time I had the pork, the vinegar was too strong for me. I get their ribbon fries with cheese and bacon now. It is pure perfection. I ordered from here a few times during concerts at the Beach and as much as I enjoyed the bbq chicken over chips (not nachos but potato) they did get a bit soggy and messy. Found this food truck at Back Bay Farmhouse Brewery tonight. They were out of BBQ sauce but I wasn't told that when I ordered. Waited 30 minutes for my nachos. While waiting, I heard they were out of BBQ sauce but were making more. When I got my good, I asked for BBQ sauce but was told they were making more. When I asked how long it would take, I was told that "it's a whole big ordeal" and they were almost out of food so they weren't making more. I said "ok, here's my food, I'd like a refund." The man running the truck refused but did produce a small bottle of mediocre sauce. For the price, my nachos had very little meat and the sauce was overwhelmingly flavored with vinegar plus I had to wait an excessively long time for my food. Will not patronize again. read more

The food is pretty good, but our wait was horrendous. We ordered, and while a couple people were waiting, the person taking orders never indicated they were on over an hour wait. Once 40 minutes went by, we asked and were told there were six people ahead of us, but that they would move us to the front because we have a toddler. At the same time, others with young kids were still waiting over an hour. The folks there should have treated customers with better service. They used having only two people and making food to order as an excuse, but most other food trucks operate similarly and manage to serve people in closer to 15 minutes tops. Got two bbq plates one with hush puppies one with cole slaw. Nothing fancy about the cole slaw. But it's still good. Bbq is amazing. Nice sweet and spicy and juicy. We also got ribbon fries which are amazing as well. The hush puppies may be some of the best hush puppies I've ever had. read more

I had high hopes for my Malbon's visit at First Friday staff was great, i took the reccomendation and got briskit taco and some other taco . Cole slaw, ribbon fries and a deep hunger waiting to be satisfied. Tortillas were old and fell apart immediately. Tacos aren't tacos without a good tortilla . And two old tortillas per taco was just.. Well, very un-taco savvy. There was nothing spectacular about either meat in the tacos and even the cole slaw was kinda flavorless. Maybe I caught them on a bad day? I truly did enjoy the energy of the staff, they were top notch but I could not say the same about the food. went to a house warming party in virginia beach saturday and the flying pig was there! first off the guys on the truck were very friendly answering any questions and making recommendations well i got the meat bowl they asked which meat i said yes. well it was much much more then i expected with coleslaw hush puppies, brisket, pork, chicken omg forget the party i love this truck!! it was very filling and incredibly tasty! the brisket was very well cooked, not well done, but very tender and delicious. if ever you have a chance stop it will be well worth it. read more
