I had the pleasure of trying Clarky's for the first time about a year and a half ago. I was driving…read morethrough Grass Valley, with the intention of visiting one of their great pasty shops to fuel me on my 12 or more hour journey. To my disappointment, both shops were closed. Searching frantically for an alternative, I noticed a food truck sitting in a parking lot. Clarky's BBQ. "Eh, BBQ's usually pretty expensive," I said to myself, "but I'm in a hurry and I'm starving," so I decided to give it a try. I walked up to the window and asked the lady what she recommended and she said she really likes the chicken sandwich, I think it's called the Southwest chicken sandwich, or something to that effect. So I said alright, I'll take that. The price was around $16 at the time, which I thought was about standard for a BBQ chicken sandwich. The picture on the menu showed a sandwich on a round bun, and I was thinking it would be like most BBQ sandwiches, about the size of a hamburger. I thought "man that's kinda pricey if it's hamburger size," but I eagerly awaited the arrival of the sandwich. I'm here to tell you that after I opened that package I was happy to have paid every cent of that $16 dollars because what a sandwich! This wasn't some 4 inch hamburger bun with a piece of chicken on it. This thing must have been at least 6 inches in diameter! It was loaded with tender smoked boneless chicken thighs, a soft melty white cheese, and ortega chilis. There might have been some other veggies as well but I can't remember. I was quite full by the time I got halfway through, but it was so good I just. Couldn't. Stop. Eating. I finished that whole sandwich in one sitting, and it was good to the last bite! The flavor was unreal, by far the best BBQ chicken I've ever had and maybe the best BBQ overall. The cheese flavor was perfect with the smoky chicken, and the chilis added just the right kick. I think this might be the best sandwich I have ever had, I think about it all the time! I've gotta have it again soon! Thank's Clarky's for a great experience!

You will find them at special events and at designated areas around Grass Valley and Penn Valley. Their menu changes weekly so be sure to sign up so you can know what is being served. My absolute favorite is their sliced Tri-Tip sandwich, which unfortunately hasn't been in their rotation lately. It is a nice hearty portion, and the meat flavor is so good you don't need much sauce.

My plate featured brisket-pulled pork & pork rib, along with Green Chile Mac n cheese and jalapeño sweet slaw and 2 slices of bread and pickled veggies. Brisket was special,10/10-perfect ratio of meat ,seasonings and fat-really enjoyed it. Pulled pork was a solid 8/10-nice flavor and not dry, which happens with so many pulled pork dishes Pork Rib was a very memorable 9/10-meat just fell off the bone with magnificent flavor! Green Chile mac was so good I wish I had ordered 2 of them!!! Overall great experience trying this true Texas style BBQ and look forward to trying them again at their next pop-up!!! I apologize for the bad pic,I was too concerned to eat,to take the time to take a proper pic.next time for sure!

But what I wasn't prepared for was how hard this food SMACKS. We took our food home to escape the rain and just sat there in dead silence absolutely CHOMPING on the delectable gift in front of us. I've had bbq from all across the US. I've had bbq from quite a few places who claim to have good bbq and they disappoint. But this place? So humbly dominates the BBQ game. For a rainy day, the whole Oakhouse team was in great, kind, friendly spirits and happy to dish up their well-rounded menu. Their mac and cheese had me doing that chewing-while-aggressively-pointing-at the-dish kind of thing and their brisket is the kind that doesn't need to hide behind a sauce and HALLELUJAH for that. If you're blessed enough to find one of their pop-ups, DO IT. bring yo camping chair, bring yo wife, bring an appetite. Thank you Oakhouse team for raising the bar!

So on the day of the event I saw them setting up in the back lot and boy did it smell pretty good. They were serving over 200 people at this event so my expectations were held in check. This is what they served that day and what I thought about them. Tri-Tip-My favorite item of the event-perfectly made, seasoned well, textured perfectly-left me with a smoky taste in my mouth for hours-9.25/10 item BBQ Chicken-I'm a pretty harsh bbq chicken critic and I was more than pleasantly surprised on this one-tasted great-smoky flavor-juicy-a solid piece of meat-8.1/10 item Potato Salad-another surprise on the high quality taste here-tangy yet rich, very creamy, potatoes held their shape-I enjoyed it thoroughly-7.75/10 item Baked Beans-They were just ok-they tasted good when mixed with the potato salad-I'm not a baked beans guy historically,so I'm the wrong audience for this dish-7.0/10 item. Dinner Rolls-Soft and tasty-got the job done and made for a great vessel for a tri tip slider that I enjoyed-7.5/10 item All the dishes were self serve except for the meats,so was tough not to go too hard on the sides considering I was in line with 200 people. Overall I really enjoyed the food Daddy O's served at this event, enough so that I will definitely go out of my way and make it out to their location so I can try more of their delicious food. So far,I recommend them

Easy menu. Prices were really affordable but keep in mind some meats cost extra but the prices are super fair.

It's located at the peak of the mountain at Northstar California Resort, which is a nice setting and looked like a really nice spot for lunch during our ski day. When we arrived for lunch between 1:30 and 2:00 PM on a Saturday, we wanted to get in pine but the restaurant employee in the end of the line told us that those are the past people ordering and the kitchen will close now. According to their posted hours, they officially open until 3:00 PM, so I really did not expect the kitchen to be closed that early on a busy weekend afternoon at a ski resort. It was extremely frustrating and honestly disappointing -- especially after planning for it and being excited to try the food. We didn't even get the chance to order anything. Maybe the food is great, but if the kitchen closes this early on a Saturday, that should be communicated more clearly. As it was, it completely missed expectations.

The bar has a decent selection of drinks and they can make you a great cocktail for loosening up after shredding some black diamond runs on the backside. I ordered brisket loaded tots, and they were topped with brisket, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. On the table was some more sauce if you want to sweeten it up some more.
