I can get however much I'd like and the people here are so nice and so fast when it comes to making my sandwich. I can't wait to come back on my next work trip. Mountain Grubs is a friendly little place tucked amongst the industrial buildings on Loma Rica Drive near the Nevada County Airport. It's only a 10-minute drive from downtown Grass Valley. They offer breakfast, lunch, and catering. My buddy and I had the BBQ Beef Sandwich and the Veggie Sandwich. They were both loaded with good eats and were huge. I'm doing a work project in Grass Valley and some colleagues invited me to one of their favorite sandwich shops that serves barbecue. Prices are extremely fair for what you get and the service is fabulous. They have seating for about 15 to 20 people in the restaurant. Very relaxed atmosphere. I had a tri-tip with everything and chose their spicy barbecue sauce which in my opinion is a mild spice but very flavorful. The tri-tip melted in my mouth. I guess I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture until after I broke into half the sandwich. On Thursdays they smoke ribs and since that's tomorrow, I'm going to go back and try a half a rack. If you're interested in their Thursday rib offering they usually sell out before 11 AM. Enjoy. read more

VERY TASTY! I had the Spicy Tri-Tip (#2) which really lived up to its name on the spiciness! Typically "spicy" is either too bland, too spicy, or just not great. This spicy sammy is the perfect balance of flavors & the tri-tip was both juicy & tender. Staff was all very friendly & kind. I asked about the "funky fusion" kettle chips which were described as a blend of the Maui bbq + salt & vinegar and I have to admit... I tasted all of those flavors in them, too! They have a great variety of sides | 2 for just $2.95 w/sandwich purchase| Mac + cheese w/or w/o bacon, classic potato salad (super tasty, dilly not sweet which I love), mac salad, pesto or bacon tortellini, hot soups + more! A friend told me about this spot and it's a hidden gem up by the airport! I got some spicy tritip sandos and some bbq beef sandos for my crew and we thought it was delicious. You can taste the quality. They have tons of fresh made sides that are hard to choose from, they all look great. The coleslaw they make to order so can't get any fresher! The service was great too. Not a great experience. My tri tip sandwich was 14.75 before tax and gratuity. For that price I expected a lot more. First, my tri tip and cheese were heated in a microwave. Gordon Ramsey would have a heart attack and rightly so. Microwaves turn meat and cheese to rubber. Second, my sandwich was advertised as Spicy Tri Tip, but all I could taste was the red onion and the spicy bbq sauce was lacking in quantity. As for spicy... nope. All the toppings and condiments were out of balance. Third, iceberg lettuce. Hello, this sandwich is 14.75. Need I say more? Fourth, bread was excellent. However, toasting the bread would have improved the whole thing, but that brings us back to the microwave. Fifth, the customer service was very good. Lastly, this sandwich shop is the only food service in that area and as such they don't have to up their game to keep things 5 star because they have no competition. A little expensive. However it is remotely located and the only place up this way. They have a nice breakfast burrito with a good selection of meats and plenty of them. Usually already cooked and ready to go out of the warming cabinet. A quick and delicious way to go. I tried the biscuits and gravy on Thursday. The biscuits did not taste home made and neither did the gravy, probably Sysco with extra pork sausage added. The gravy was ok though with large chunks of sausage and plenty of it. I like an over easy egg on mine, so I asked if she could fry an egg and put it on top. She said no problem. I got a broken yolk hard fried egg on top. Not good, I could not eat it. All in all not terrible. So, I mentioned the hard cooked egg to her, she replied, I always break the yolk. Who just decides to do it there way? The next day I decided to give them an other chance because I was hungry and the smoker smells so good. I wanted to try there Tri Tip sandwich for lunch. I asked if it was tender. The owner said she marinates the meat over night and smokes it all morning. They have a smoker going out front and it smelled really good. The sandwich was on a large roll and had plenty of lettuce, fresh tomato and red onion and too much mayo. The tri tip was skimpy portions, but was well seasoned and very tasty. However, the meat was sliced very thick. As most of us know tri tip can be the toughest cut of beef unless it is sliced correctly. My first bite was delicious, a little chewy but good flavor. My second bite pulled out half the meat on the sandwich. It was quite tough the way it was sliced. Perhaps if they would slice it correctly and very thin, it would be better. However I will not attempt to tell someone with 30 years experience how to run her business. So I give her 3 stars (good breakfast burrito's) instead of 5.
