It's a beautiful facility with good amenities and a definite "fancy" factor, but the services are hit or miss and completely depend on what and whom you get. I've only been there twice over the past year and a half; my first massage (swedish) was amazing, my second (raindrop) was lackluster - I actually think they should put a warning on their website. The description of the massage says that it uses oils dropped on your back in a relaxing raindrop pattern and that the oils can help boost your immunity. The thing is, those drops are pure concentrated extracts of spices like oregano - and what felt like chili pepper! - and they BURNED. Literally, they burned - I was imagining my skin peeling off, it was so bad underneath the hot towel. My masseuse said that if I could endure it, it would help my body. The second half of the treatment was a massage that was anything but relaxing - the masseuse spent most of the time painfully trying to remove a knot. She was super chatty and wouldn't understand that I just wanted to relax. When I got home from the massage, my back was black and blue and looked slightly burned. I tried not to panic, put a bunch of pure aloe on, went to sleep, and when I woke up, it looked mostly fine. Maybe this is all a part of the treatment - but this was not a relaxing or fun experience. With all this said, I will definitely go back - just for a tried and true massage, like swedish or stress relief or well being. Today was my very first time going to this spa, and I'm still debating whether or not I would go back in the future. Reading other reviews, I definitely would agree that this place is "hit or miss", meaning it really depends what you get and who you get. a friend and I had the prenatal package done today-- prenatal massage, prenatal facial, spa mani, mom-to-be pedi and cuisine. Looks-wise: Overall the place is pretty clean, you get pretty white robes and slippers, and your own locker for your things. However, I didn't get that "tranquil" vibe as what the spa tries to exude. The music was the same annoying song that was playing in the background, no dim lighting or nething.. I don't know about other people but that's the type of environment I would expect from a spa such as this one. Just didn't have that cozy vibe. And also I would have to say I was highly disappointed with my pedicure. The place I usually go to does a heck of a better job for half the price. And The lady who did my pedicure was horrible. She didn't explain anything, said few words, and felt like she was rushing through the whole thing-- to the point where she just ripped a cuticle off really quick and I started to bleed a little. I should have said something but I let it go and she acted as if nothing happened. Needless to stay my toe pretty much stung through most of it. Afterwards, she led me back to have them dried then left without saying a word and tended to a new customer. It left me thinking like "hello, you kind of abandoned me here and totally skipped my manicure". Communication would've been nice. Luckily, this Asian lady took care of me and did my manicure. She was a breath of fresh air from my pedicure experience. I wouldn't say this manicure was all that great because I have had better elsewhere, but just her kindness and positive attitude made all the difference. As for the tranquility room which I should've mentioned earlier, it is clean and I liked the fact they had little snacks like muffins, fruit and tea.. But the whole flow of how everything worked was a little weird to me. Everyone sat around in their robes waiting to be called with their little itinerary in their hands..felt like high school all over again or something. They'd call your name one by one and off you would go to your respective appointment. Just something personally that felt a little odd. I have come here about once or twice a year for the past 3 years for massages and facials. Those services are very good and each person I have had was wonderful and very nice. The tranquility room is great and all of the rooms very comfortable and clean. My only negative experience would be with the front desk folks and the phone people. They don't listen or pay attention to detail and go over your reservations especially if it's more than one. The last time I came it was missing the massage for my guest. That's a big deal. We came for a spa experience yet one massage wasn't scheduled even after it is written on the gift certificates, after I repeated it to several people on check in and called multiple times to move the appts and book it. This should not happen in a service and hospitality industry. Confirming what the reservations are and making sure it matches any gift certificates seem basic. My husband gave me a gift certificate for The Fountain Spa for my birthday. Normally I go to Bliss, but decided to try something different. I booked two services with The Fountain Spa, a salt scrub, paraffin treatment and a 1 hour massage. The check in process was efficient, and staff helpful. The locker room was clean and tidy with a steam but no sauna. I used the steam room and was then directed to the lounge which looked and felt like a hotel lobby, people were on their cell phones and the lounge should be a quiet zone. My first service person led me to a room for the salt scrub and paraffin treatment. The treatment was relaxing, but the massage/scrub portion was short; not worth the price tag, as I was left alone for 20 minutes in the paraffin wrap. After this service was complete, I had the one hour massage booked and was told to go back to the lounge where I waited 6 minutes for the massage therapist. The massage process from beginning to end, lasted exactly 42 minutes, not quite the hour that I expected or paid for. The therapist was good, but I felt annoyed that my time was cut short and that I was sold additional services, called "heat packs." She did preface the sale by informing me that it was extra, so at least I had knowledge of that. Overall, I give it a meh. Short on service and the lounge was an odd environment that did not start the experience off well. The time cut off my services will not make me a repeat customer. read more

Aesthetician Annette P. is great she's the only one I trust with facials and my skin glows after! Steam room is relaxing. Massages are not that great. They gave me a "hot box" during the massage and I did not ask for it, it's was ridiculously too hot for me and they had the nerve to charge me. The products they use in the locker room suck! Seriously, even equinox gym uses kiehls products. Decor needs serious updating in the "tranquility room" and for the price point, there should be some updates. I recently went to the Fountain Spa and everything has changed from managers to staff. The service I had was great, although the management department seemed to be lacking. I had an issue with my membership and wished to speak to a manager named Daria. Unfortunately, it seemed that Daria has other more important interest than resolving an issue that has to do with her clients. This is unprofessional and shows bad qualities in a company if they are not interested in their clients feedback. In addition, a different woman with short black hair checked me out of my service and seemed to not really know what she is doing. Overall, the Fountain Spa has potential to continue to grow And be better although management and staff need to be serious about their customer service. This experience was not ideal, and I will be letting everyone know about my experience when dealing with the management of this establishment. read more

I will never use the fountain spa again after 12 years of being a faithful customer. Suddenly after all these years they have policies that i was never told. After spending a lot of money there and refering many people I find myself talking to policy and not people. The manager has no ability to deal with customers certainly not me. therefore that may be why the phone res people are always changing and the desk people are always new. Took my daughter for her birthday for two hour massage and a one hour massage which was over $500. We have been going to the Fountain for years. During the massage found out music kept skipping in and out. It was the worst relaxation experience ever. We were told that it had been like that for a couple of days. They should tell you prior to this expensive service that it's not going to be the service you expect. Girl at checkout said the manager would give 10% off. Manager didn't even have the decency to come out and face us to hear our complaints. The woman checking out next to us was complaining as well. The massage wasn't good..I have never had a full body massage and not gotten my feet massaged... Thought that was very weird... I have been a customer for years and have always enjoyed a high quality massage experience and excellent customer service, at this establishment. However, I was extremely surprised when I received an average massage from Sandra G and low level customer service. Apparently it appears that Sandra G missed the customer service training at The Fountain, and she did not realize that a negative attitude is highly inappropriate. I asked her one question during my message and she was defensive and negative in her response, making it clear she was not interested in my experience as a customer. It also seemed that she had an ear piece while she was performing the message, as I could hear it when she was massaging my head. I've been going to this spa for over a year now and this is what I've learned: it really depends who you see. The spa itself is very relaxing and pretty. The staff have always been nice to me and super attentive. The services, however, are more hit or miss. I have not had a good facial there and the waxing has been poor (hurty even). I have had better massages and have found one great person that I always go to. Expect some trial and error until you find the person that suits your needs! I've been to tons of high-end spas while on vacations and in the area (including the Red Door Spas) and this one is by far my favorite. I love that you get the full spa experience as soon as you walk in. Sure, you pay for it, but when isn't that the case for quality service? And, in my opinion, the prices are not that far off from any other average spa in the area. The facilities are incredibly clean. I love going with my husband and meeting in the tranquility room for some tea and cookies before going in for my massage. Also love the steam room and steam showers - all the basic toiletries are there so you can take a shower and clean off the massage oils before heading out. Would highly recommend to anyone! I had an appointment for today at 9am. I was told to arrive by 8:30am, which I did. We waited there for about an hour and no one showed up. I then proceeded to call the number you have listed for The Fountain Spa and after waiting on hold "Gabby" answered and told me that you guys would be closed for the day. Which is acceptable considering the snow, if someone had called to notify us the night before or before the time we were told to arrive. That we didn't have to go out in the snow and waste an hour of our time sitting in front of the spa for it to end up being closed. I quite frankly find this unacceptable that you would not notify your customers of the closure BEFORE THE TIME THEY WERE TOLD TO ARRIVE. I believe that we pay enough to receive good quality customer service from you guys. I hope that this situation is brought to light, because it was a disappointment. Very good spa and the VIP plan keeps you on a regular massage schedule at a nice discount. Better than most spa's but room for improvement. They do not offer a 90 minute option and the two hour massage is really two one hour massages with a break in between. They do this for their scheduling convenience and not to provide good customer service. The "tranquility room" gets crowded and loud because they only schedule on the hour. If they offered a 90 minute option this would solve that problem and provide customers with a nice massage option you cannot get now. Most if not all other high end spas offer a 90 (80) minute massage. read more

I typically go a few times a year to get a facial and/or massage. This time around I got a massage, facial and gel manicure. I wasn't all impressed with my facial this time around. Not a very thorough job. And the manicure, was abysmal. I can walk into a regular nail salon save about $15 have them cut my cuticles, nails (without making mine bleed), and moisturiZe and massage my hands. Unfortunately I did not get any of the benefits that go into a typical manicure. What a waste of money. I would be more sympathetic if they even did a good job applying it, but they didn't. I have received a $100 gift certificate from a friend to your spa and I have scheduled an appointment for a make-up lesson at Shops at Riverside location. From the write up in the catalog I had expected a "truly ellegant spa experience" however here is what occurred... Instead of make-up studio the lesson took place in the reception area where people where checking in, checking out and congregating and 5-6 other employees are hanging around or working. No privacy what so ever and no feeling being respectfully treated. I expressed my feelings about it the girl who was my make-up artist and she said that many customers complain about it but this is the spot that was designed for her to do the lesson. Frankly, sitting without mirror and watching the parking from the window is not what I call the elegant spa experience and it would have been easier for me get free make-up and consultation at Macy's or any other department store and purchase make-up products for $100. In the catalog they promise that for make-up lesson the customer will get step by step instructions and a chart for home use....My experience was not even close. Since there is no mirror it is difficult to see what the make up artist was doing and while she was working with me, sometimes people came up and asked questions and were starting to talk with her....the whole experience was very uncomfortable for me.....I did not feel that there was any attention or effort to make the make up lesson of any value. In addition I did not receive any chart for home use... In short, I did not have any positive experience that would want me to return or that would make me think that I got something of value from this session. Needless to say that I did not feel that I want to purchase any products from the spa. Never again!!! read more

The massage itself was solid but the experience as a whole was disappointing. My wife and I went to enjoy a "deluxe rendezvous for 2" with an hour in the whirlpool together followed a one hour massage. After waiting in the "tranquility room" which was a cafeteria with about 30 people in robes talking loudly we were ushered to the whirlpool room which was private, quiet and nice. Since we did not want to spend the full hour in the little room with the whirlpool we stepped outside after about 45 minutes to wait for our massages. The seating area outside of the whirlpool rooms was empty and so we settled there only to have several staff members come through and hang out, talking and drinking the water, and taking up space which I'm sure is intended for guests only? When our time for the massages came we were brought into a standard massage room with two nice masseuses that both did a good job. About 15 minutes into the massage the entire room started vibrating and when I asked the masseuse what it was she said there was a laundry room next to the massage room and "it happens". The vibrating went on for at least 5 minutes and when it stopped there were loud voices of staff members laughing and carrying on in the laundry room. Thin walls. I found it all highly disturbing and was not able to relax - this ruined the experience for me and our time at Fountain Spa. Overall, there was not much that was relaxing about Fountain Spa. Upon checkout, the woman at the counter asked how our experience was and when I replied that it was "just ok" she didn't even ask any follow up questions to find out how the experience could be improved. I hope the manager of the Spa reads these reviews and takes action. As it stands now, we would not return to Fountain Spa. read more

I have been going to the Fountain Spa (both locations) for nearly 10 years but I believe this was only my first or second massage at Riverside. Usually everything is satisfactory but today I received service so terrible it inspired me to create a Yelp account. Upon arrival, I was pointed to the locker room with no reminders on how to use the lockers. There were two other confused women in the locker room who clearly had the same experience I did. One woman had to go back outside, in her towel to ask for help. I then proceeded to the tranquility room which was extremely loud with lots of people talking. Not very tranquil at all. Eventually, I was greeted by a socially awkward masseuse who would not look me in the eye and barely shook my hand. I booked an appointment for a massage due to sore legs and back. The front desk indicated the "Well Being Massage" was their "signature massage" and includes three different techniques. So, I figured this would suit all my needs. I was wrong. This masseuse either did not use enough oil or his hands were very dry. He kept rubbing in the same areas over and over again which felt like rug burn. There was a lot of hard, painful pinching and rocking the massage table which was not relaxing at all. He also put on a sound machine which just added distracting noise to the already calming music overhead. Finally, there was no leg massage at all... which was part of the reason I booked a massage in the first place. When I followed up at the front desk afterwards, I asked it this was normal. They went to the back to check with a supervisor and assured me that it was. I am fairly certain I have gotten this massage before (at the Ramsey location) and have never experienced anything like today's service. I'm not sure why the recommended "signature massage" would ignore whole body parts, but this should be indicated somewhere in the description. Overall, terrible experience. It's a shame as this used to be my "go to" spa.. but never again. read more

This is a first class Spa, one of the best in the tri-state area. The facility is clean and welcoming and the massage and facial therapists are wonderful. This is one of the few spas that I have visited where the entire session time is filled and there is no "down" time during the facial or massage session. I always feel like my session has been relaxing and pampering. The lounge and spa atmosphere is conducive to relaxation and I try to visit the Fountain Spa in Riverside Square several times a year. My only complaint is that the reception and telephone staff make no contribution to the pampering and relaxing spa experience. It is difficult t to make a Spa appointment and I'm often on hold for extended periods of time trying to make an appointment. Check-in is usually efficient, but check-out typically takes some waiting time and the check-out personnel are not friendly or efficient. Typically, a wonderful weekday spa session is marred by the wait time at check-out trying to get back to the office. read more

The locker room was clean and adequate. From q-tips to hair spray to hair dryers. Steam room and showers. The Tranquillity room aka waiting room was nice. Although, it did get a bit loud. They had lemon water, iced tea, hot tea, fresh fruit and mini muffins. I will return. read more

Went for a spray tan. Paid more than $80 with tip etc. The tan washed off in the shower the next day. When I called to let them know, I never got a call back. Been there for some other services as well. I agree with some of the reviews that there is a tension among the staff. Management must be setting the tone, because most people working there seem miserable, so I choose not to return because I need my downtime to be calm, serene and happy, not angry, sad and mostly mediocre service. read more

My experience at The Fountain Spa was great! Everyone was very friendly, from check-in to check-out. Things moved quickly when I wanted them to, but I was also able to take my time and relax. My esthetician Annette was so great, she explained things to me when necessary but did not talk the whole time. The spa is beautiful. My only con would be that the tranquility room got very crowded and noisy while everyone was waiting to be called on the hour, and that same crowd ended up in the locker room at the same time 1 hour later. read more

I have received massages from The Fountain on numerous occasions and never had any issues. However, today I did not have a great experience and have now come to the conclusion that today will be the last time I come to this spa. I arrived at 1:20pm for a 2pm massage. I could not wait to change into the robe and slippers and go into the tranquility room for a little quite time and tea. The robe given to me was so rough I could not understand how they could even give them out. This is supposed to be a more upscale spa, you're spending a lot on services, the least that they could provide is a soft robe. Anyway, I dismissed this and changed and went into the "tranquility" room. This was a complete joke today. First off the "hot" water for tea was cold. I could not have a cup since the water was so cold. I sat down and to my dismay there was a large group of women in the back room having lunch. They were SO LOUD!!! To the point where I went back to the locker room after 10 minutes and could not take it anymore. They were celebrating a birthday so they were singing and then loudly gossiping about their coworkers. I thought to myself why wouldn't there be another room where a group could gather after massages to eat and chat?? They don't even have doors that separate this from the tranquility room. Other customers were rolling their eyes while waiting. I could not enjoy myself at all. I had a medicore massage. I was with 4 girlfriends and no one was impressed this time around. Actually my back still hurts and I feel worse now then I did when I came in. I specify that I have neck and shoulder pain and want that to be worked on the most and I was told those areas would be worked on longer and they were not. I've had better massages from chair massages in the mall for 10 minutes. $115 could have been spent on so much more. I was so disappointed. read more

My esthetician was great, however being my first time at the fountain, I thought I would get a luxuries spa experience, it was not. For luxury spa prices, I expect the tranquility room to be well, tranquil, employees were loud when it should have been a relaxation room in preparation for my facial. I felt rushed, even though I arrived early for my appointment, Employees deemed it appropriate to yell to one another across the rooms and halls. I've been to spas that charge substantially less for a more in depth enjoyable and RELAXING experience, my suggestion, live up to your name of being a luxurious spa and make the environment relaxing, tranquil and enjoyable. She asked me questions, answered mine and was attentive. Left feeling amazing! The reason for not 5 stars is because the people in the front desk area including arriving and leaving. I walked in and said "hi I have an appointment" with a reply of "name and fill this out." Then "ok go that way" without looking up at me directly or talking to me. And when I was leaving it was the same experience. The lady behind the counter seemed to wanted to leave and was talking to the staff behind the desk. I asked a few a questions but was interrupting their conversation. I said "I don't understand" and then she was great but I literally had to ask for attention. The "experience" of a spa/restaurant/class starts and ends when the customer walks in and out and that bombed. The rest was amazing though!!!! read more
