I definitely have a sweet tooth, I love chocolate and I've had my fair share of chocolate cakes. I will say that the Duke cake from The French Workshop is one of the very best chocolate cakes that I've ever had. Here's why: it's super decadent so you'll savor every bite and because it's so rich you'll likely have the opportunity to enjoy it for several days. I'm not sharing! This isn't a sponge cake, it's made of a dark chocolate cremeux (I wasn't familiar with this term, but it tastes like a chocolate mousse that isn't fluffy) plus it also has biscuits (which get soft) plus a shiny beautiful dark chocolate glaze. It's elegant looking (see the pic) and the design of the cake makes it easy to portion out. Each day I find myself wanting yet another slice. I will get this cake again, for sure! On a recent visit with a buddy on a Saturday, we had - a bland cafe latte that I had to wait for them to get right when they gave me cafe au lait instead - an overpriced tea that I had to wait 10 min for - and a forgetful pastry that I ate to fill space Seating was ample but a bit oddly structured in more of a alley format. I could see how it'd get crowded real quickly with nowhere to sit or wait around. They had serious bread production going on behind the counters so I'm sure some things might be good, but not what I had cuz I forgot about it already. A coffee shop I've been to so often that I kinda wish I'd have an ownership stake in to get a discount here or there! Everything's great, and the staff has been around forever. We don't get to go as often as we used to but my fiancee and I get the question of "where have you been?" every time we visit. The coffee is great and they're always making good seasonal drinks that pair well with the desserts. The sandwiches are good. There's never really a feeling of chaos in here to me, even when there are no seats and like 50 people lining up for last-minute holiday treats. I used to travel all the way here for mainly cakes to bring to special occasions and my all time favorites are Duke, Melody and Princess. Other than cakes, I love their Creme Brulee! It's super rich and creamy plus they're all served in a ramekin! I've recently tried their Passionfruit Tart and tbh, I'm not a huge fan. The filling did not match the chocolate crust whatsoever and it's such a strange combination. As for the Opera cake, I feel like there was something off with it. The cake layers itself just didn't seem to taste right. Couldn't put my finger on it. I'm only -1 star for the staff as some are friendly and some just don't seem to care. It'll be more welcoming if the employees greeted every person as they're admiring the showcases of cakes and baked goods as well as not being on their phones and having their own conversations while helping guests. This is a very solid french bakery that I frequent on the off occasion I let myself eat something sweet. Previously I have had their sandwiches for lunch which are affordable and delicious. I have had their crunchy which is a staple and a remake of a Ferrero rocher. Their fruit tarts are delicious with a perfectly buttery crust and tasty cream with the fresh fruit. One of my all time favorites here are their fudgy brownies which are huge and very decadent. If you like fudgy brownies these are the ones! I went here the other day since I was in the area for a work appointment and ordered the croquet madame. It did not let me down neither didnthe coffee. I left yet again satisfied :). We were sitting at a table inside and it must have been near closing time because without a single word of warning from any of the staff members they turned off the lights and started putting up the chairs inside the store. We were not the only table inside, there were at least 3-4 tables and they were as surprised as we were. Since we were taken off guard they were closing, we didn't finish some of our desserts and asked one of the staff members for a box to pack up our stuff, we were ignored. Owners/managers need to take a look at their staff, training, and poor attitude towards paying guests. I used to come here at least once a week but will no longer be a customer. read more

I was in the area recently for dinner, & decided to stop by The French Workshop since it wasn't too crowded. It's usually packed, so I don't come here too often to sit down & enjoy their desserts. On a Tuesday night though, we came just before the everyone started trickling in! I came with 2 other friends and we shared the mixed fruit tart, crunchy, and a hot chocolate. I really have to commend TFW on their fruits - they're so good with the tart & perfectly sweet! It's a bit difficult to share the tart because of the shell - the plastic knives don't stand a chance. In comparison, the Crunchy (think of a giant glorified Ferrero Rocher) is perfect for sharing! It's a bit on the heavier side, so it works out well with the fruit tart. Hot chocolate here is yum - not too sweet, and 100% better than a good ol' Swiss Miss. Some other desserts I've enjoyed here include the fruit tarts, crumbled apple pie and the creme brulee. I would pass on the opera cake though. Of note, the desserts here can also be a bit pricey. I'd anticipate paying around $8 per dessert. read more

I always get the lemon tart, it's so good! They have a good coffee machine and can make some super awesome lattes. This is always a must stop by place if I'm on Bell blvd. There are French sweets here that are imported from France - I was so excited to see sweets from La Cure Gourmande my trip to one of the original stores in France, and the staff confirmed these were indeed imported. If you want something as simple as a pain de chocolat (chocolate croissant) or something more decadent like a tart or cake, chances are it will taste mm mm amazing. Everything is beautifully presented as well. I usually come in here and scan everything a couple times before I can decide on one. Everyone I have brought here has left VERY happy. In this area parking is tight - you may have to circle, especially during peak dinner hours. The French Workshop has amazing sweet and savory items with very strong coffee. I've tried so many of their pastries and really enjoy most of them. They're always so beautifully presented and there's a good variety of different items to choose from as well. Their creme brulee and tiramisu are pretty good. The smaller, chocolate covered ones such as the melody and the duke are definitely heavier and pretty sweet but it's definitely unique and some of them have biscuits or mousse in it. What a great French bakery shop in bayside. The more I hangout at bayside, the more i felt like food here is much more friendly to Asians. Why? Cuz the neighborhood has some best Taiwanese food here which is hard to find in Manhattan or even flushing. I basically ordered whole bunch of them and took a bite without taking most of pictures. There's only a handful of bakeries that are up to par with those in Paris, in my opinion. This bakery exceeded my expectations. I ordered quite a few items. Their croissants are buttery and flaky! The macarons are also really good. The Earl Grey and Chocolate had a great texture and was the perfect bite. The apple crumb pie was AMAZING and I would buy that again in a heartbeat. This place has been on my bookmarks list for months, ever since my nutrition class bombarded the group chat with food pics, and well here I am. My sister ordered a BLT, some macarons, and an iced matcha with skim milk, while I ordered a slice of carrot cake, a slice of creme brûlée cheesecake, and an Oreo brownie, though we ended up sharing pretty much everything. They were all delicious, but I highly HIGHLY recommend the carrot cake and the macarons, as well as the iced matcha. The carrot cake was to die for! It's so fucking moist, with the perfect amount of cream cheese frosting, and the added walnuts are simply genius. I never thought I could love and enjoy a cake so much but I did. The macarons were so cute and scrumptious as well and you can really taste the individual flavors. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, it's so so yummy! We're definitely coming back! Why four stars? Because of the missing macaron... otherwise, this would have been a 5-star review. My sister has no idea exactly how many macarons she ordered (whether it was five or six) since she was just listing the flavors as she was ordering, but she was charged for six and only received five. $2.50 for a macaron? I've always had the chance to try goodies from this shop such as their Napoleon and fruit tart but finally had a chance to visit the shop myself. First, everything looks so delicious- from the baked breads to savory sandwiches to the baked goods, I wanted to try everything. I ordered a creme brûlée Madeline and UGH- I wanted three. It's hard to find Madeline that are good, moist and leaving you wanting more but I can attest that they have prob the best ones I've had ever. The creme brûlée made the Madeline more desirable though next time when I go, I'd like to try the regular one. They're decently sized but I can eat it in 2 bites if I wanted. They're also kinda pricey but I would pay for it as a treat to myself! We also got a smoked salmon sandwich to try- my husband loved it. Honestly they have a lot to savory items I'd try but we didn't buy because we were headed to lunch but I'll be back for them. As we were paying and waiting to get our two cake orders, we saw a Baker bring out a baked cheese bread. $7 bucks for a big piece- I was so tempted but I didn't. All the things we had from the French workshop have not disappoint. Will go back with the intention to buy more and have a full meal from here next time! Must try! TLDR: received old pastries that were left in fridge for too long and have become moldy I come here often with my friends and family and the quality has gone down the drain! I was extremely disappointed and slightly concerned now with my last experience. Recently, I came here about thirty minutes prior to closing and was initially served frozen pastries. I went back to the store to ask why the pastries were still frozen, and the server at the counter stated that they expected the pastries to be taken home because by then it would've thawed (??? didn't make sense to me but if you say so...) They ended up replacing the frozen treats, but with the ones in the fridge and one of them it had specks of mold!! I wish I had taken pictures but I really didn't want to make negative assumptions about this spot because I really liked it. The same night, me and one of the girls both had gotten upset stomachs! Unbelievable! And truly beyond disappointed. I hope that management steps their game up because serving moldy goods should be a crime! read more

They are not sanitary. They force you to use milk and creamers from a table they have no clear sight of most of the time when people have their back to them. Look at the picture. Garbage overflowing, and someone's old coffee cup left on the table that you are supposed to get the milk/ cream and sugar from. Health department notified. If this is how they handle things upfront... what's going on behind the scenes!? Also, manager was rude and in no way helpful when approached about the issue. I requested to have them pour my milk from behind the counter. She refused and stated it was the only way, and I could go somewhere else. Well, I just might. One of the best places I've been to for desert. They have every type of desert I know of. There's so many things there it gets hard to decide what you respect want at one point because everything looks really good. The prices are also very affordable and reasonable. We ended up getting the Oreo cheesecake, Strawberry Tart and Creme Brûlée . To my expectations, they were all really good. We also got the chai latte and it was one of the best I've had. Cute place that's often packed! While it's super popular, there is both indoor and outdoor seating so we are usually able to find a seat. I find myself going for the savory items more than sweet. The leek and potato danish, potato bureka and spinach pie are my top choices. For the sweet stuff: tiramisu, mini chocolate croissant and crème brûlée. I have found that there is a little bit of lack of consistency, hence the rating. Sometimes the baguette is decent, sometimes doughy. The crème brûlée sometimes has no crackly top and sometimes the crackly top is way too thick. Usually, the flavor of most things are very good, it's just the texture that is a bit off. Service is non-existent, they're so busy that they are just trying to get orders filled and get folks out the door. Prices are what you would expect for a cutesy-ish place like this. read more

I came here while waiting for my mom at the urgent care and the moment I walked in I was impressed. It is absolutely gorgeous and inviting when you walk in. They had so much of a selection that I was in awe. The customer service was so great that I decided to stay in the cafe and eat. I ordered a nutella hot chocolate and a cinnamon bun to stay. They gave me this classy tin tray and a decorative plate for my pastry. It was so warm and comfortable I could stay there all day.
