Amazing! Best Italian food around. Ashamed we never tried this place until now…read more Pasta, bread, drinks, salad....all excellent with fair portions and fair pricing. Very small and intimate with friendly and authentic staff. Yes, they tell you there is an hour time limit but we stayed over an hour and no one told us or pressured us to hurry up and leave. In fact, or bar tender said to take our time and asked numerous times if we wanted anything else. And it was on a VERY crowded Valentine's Day night. The people who are complaining about being told to leave after an hour are almost certainly pretentious jerks who think they can just sit at a table and talk and not order any drinks or food. When your meal is over...it's time to leave. We never felt rushed or pressured the entire time we were there and had and amazing and relaxed night with excellent food and drinks.

As someone who considers a well-constructed savory cocktail one of life's finer pursuits, I was genuinely excited. The hostess was lovely, warm even, but informed me that without a dinner reservation, the bar wouldn't be available until 9 pm. I was not welcome to simply sit and have a drink. I asked -- politely, I'd like to think -- whether an exception might be made. I was only in town for the weekend and promised that I could be in and out in twenty minutes but the answer was an unambiguous 'no'. There's something particularly unwelcoming about turning away a solo guest who has sought you out specifically for something only your restaurant offers. I came because Carmine does something nobody else does, at least nowhere I've found. And I was unceremoniously turned away with nothing to show for it. I understand the math. A Saturday evening at a restaurant like this lives and dies by full dinner covers, and a solo drinker nursing a cocktail for twenty minutes does not move the needle. But hospitality, real hospitality, has never been purely a numbers exercise. The irony is that I adore this restaurant. The food is spectacular, full stop. Had I possessed a second stomach, I would have happily demolished the Tonno Royale Spaghettini without a moment's hesitation. Carmine has earned genuine loyalty from me as a diner. But a Spicy Sicilian remains, for now, on my list of unfinished business -- and that is a small, specific disappointment I wasn't expecting to leave with.

I think it's because I used to go to Alma in the same plaza and happened to notice it one day. I was completely blown away from start to finish. Everything that we ordered was absolute perfection, and I am not easily impressed. What really made my experience fantastic was the owner. He took my call asked if I've ever been there, and I said no it was my first time. He was so excited and delivered the food himself with a dessert thrown in for us to try. I wish food didn't have calories and I would be ordering from there every day if you're debating whether to try this place, run do not walk. This place should have a line around the corner.

Well...this is a problem…read more I just tried this Italian-Vietnamese fusion place that happens to be within walking distance of my house, which means my self-control is about to be severely tested. First off, the Lotus Rangoon--crispy, creamy, and made with actual crab. Not the "crab-ish flavored mystery filling". Real crab. Did you hear me ?? Real crab. And this amazing dipping sauce. The Vietnamese pork chop showed up perfectly seared, tender, and packed with flavor, served with fragrant jasmine rice and veggies. Delish!!! The wonton soup was incredible--tender dumplings, lots of veggies and noodles with a broth that felt like it could fix your entire life. Then came the chicken parm. When I say huge, I mean New England snowstorm eat for days huge. Crispy, perfectly cooked, sitting ontop of angel hair pasta with crusty bread on the side. We also tried the chicken and eggplant parm combo, which could easily feed a small family. Thin, crispy cutlets, perfectly breaded eggplant, marinara, melted mozzarella...just ridiculous in the best way. The prices are very reasonable, the portions are enormous, and the staff is genuinely warm and welcoming. So yes, you should absolutely try this place.

The menu shows a variety of both Vietnamese and Italian appetizers and entrees, plus just enough options which overlap in interesting ways. The inside is beautiful, but still small. The main dining area has 6 tables which can accommodate around 20, and there's more seats in the bar area at bistro tables and at the bar itself. We opted for Vietnamese fare on this return visit. Some of the items, such as our summer rolls appetizer, remain traditional in preparation and presentation, while others, such as our entrees, are what I guess you'd call elevated. Overall, everything was fresh, well prepared, and came out quickly. Our appetizer, the summer rolls, came with a dipping sauce that was rich and thick and quite flavorful, making us work to get every drop of it. The sauce for our entrees was equally rich and thick (not nuoc cham), and it tasted good on everything. We ordered lemongrass chicken and lemongrass beef entrees. These came with perfectly steamed broccoli and carrots, and a choice of jasmine rice or jasmine rice pancakes. The pancake was actually the jasmine rice mixed with additional butter and chives, shaped into a pancake. The chicken was not grilled pieces, but rather tenderloins with skin on them, evidently fried, both crisp and juicy. We did not order anything from the Italian portion of the menu, but I did see several entrees at other tables. The portions are generous. It was interesting to see the mix of choices at other tables - one party had ordered both spaghetti and meatballs and pho. I liked everything about my dinner here, and I hope their venture is successful.

Santoro's has deep roots in Roslindale Square, originally founded by Vincenzo and Agostina Santoro and beloved for decades for their Sicilian pizza, fresh-baked scali bread, and classic Italian pastries. Today, their daughter Tina Santoro Asmar carries that legacy forward with pride--and has taken it to another level. The care, tradition, and family ownership are felt the moment you walk in. The sandwiches are simply unmatched. Hands down, the best Italian deli sandwiches I've ever had--better than anything I've eaten in Philadelphia, New York City, or Boston (all places I've lived). Everything starts with bread baked fresh daily and top-quality ingredients. Our favorites are: The Agostina Sr. - Boar's Head provolone, sweet & spicy capicola, Genoa salami, mortadella, prosciutto, sun-dried tomato spread, roasted red peppers, onion, tomato, fresh basil, and olive oil The Grayson - Oven Gold turkey, cranberry sauce, homemade stuffing, romaine, and mayo You can taste the pride and attention to detail in every bite. Catering is where Santoro's truly shines and we always call the day beforehand. We regularly order trays for our own family and for friends returning home from the hospital, and the feedback is always the same--everyone raves. Standout catering dishes include: Chicken Parmigiana, Stuffed shells & stuffed manicotti, Lasagna, Ziti with meatballs, Chicken, broccoli & ziti, Eggplant Parmigiana (a favorite with our vegetarian friends), and Caesar salad We always order extra meatballs and extra Nona Carmela's marinara--and it never goes to waste. The garlic bread is also a must: fresh scali bread loaded with garlic, butter, Parmesan, mozzarella, and baked until perfectly bubbly. The desserts are excellent (especially the cannoli), and they thoughtfully package them separately from hot food--small touches that show how much they care. Add in super friendly staff, fair prices, and consistently fresh ingredients, and Santoro's becomes the kind of place you rely on again and again--for everyday meals, family gatherings, and moments when food really matters. A true family-owned Italian gem with incredible sandwiches and catering you can trust. Highly recommended.
