The food is the best food in massachusetts. Really looks like a local restaurant and has amazing food. Service is amazing and quick, they always are nice and friendly to customers. The vibe is amazing, just like the town of newburyport. Zero complaints and 100% delicious. read more

Cracker crust pizza (very thin). Got the spicy hawaiian but the pineapple had no flavor, could barely taste it. And the clipper pizza (pepperoni and mushroom) I liked the mushrooms but for some reason these pizzas didn't have much flavor. There's not enough sauce and it's not seasoned. Really bummed out about this place. Service was weird. Didn't talk much or let us know how the ordering process works. They have to put the code in for you to use the restroom which is a bit humiliating. And the inside is tight and the menu hard to read. read more

It took over 40 minutes for a single slice of reheated pizza. The garlic bread was uninspiring and the marinara sauce it was served with was ice cold. Pizza was not warm and given it took 40 minutes to come out, I wasn't shocked. The tables were dirty. The chairs were dirty. There were no napkins in any of the dispensers. read more

When I first moved to Newburyport and had their pizza, I was hooked. Great crust and toppings, and the pies were cooked perfectly. Not anymore! The last 3 times I ordered from them, the pizza was borderline raw, as were the toppings. This, after I requested, "well done".. I'm not one to complain, but this last time around, I was furious. I called to tell them the pizza was barely cooked. They delivered another one, and it STILL wasn't cooked enough! read more

I ate at this pizza place for the first time today. They have gluten-free pizza crust and they offer vegan mozzarella cheese, so this place is a win for me! I tried a mushroom pizza and it was very tasty. The true test for me was after the meal, as I have a very sensitive stomach and if food is not of a high-quality... I usually end up with some type of stomach ache. I'm happy to report that I was able to eat lunch at the spot AND have no adverse effects after, so I do feel confident about the quality of the food that they are serving. With regard to parking, there is street parking available, most of it is with a two hour maximum. The staff was very friendly as well, I made sure to leave a tip. All in all, I recommend this location. read more

I don't even know what to say. Co-workers working the register - did you NOT notice the guy HANDLING the food/preparing the pizzas had his ass hanging nearly 100% out of his pants? I was so stunned after walking in and seeing this. The employee took his (gloved but what does that matter?!) hand and reached around near his butt crack and hoisted his pants back up and they just started to slide back down. So this picture was taken after he adjusted his pants. But the hand reaching down and his fingers disappearing into his pants near his ass crack just about did me in along with the sight of said butt. And this guy is working in a window facing the street in Newburyport - on display! Are there any adults or owners around? Helloooooo? I was just hoping for employees to be wearing masks and for the place to not be too packed. This was beyond anything I was prepared for. So glad I didn't get delivery or curbside even though it was traumatic to witness. This was my first and last time at Anchor. Needless to say, I walked out. Get this employee trained on not sticking his hands down his pants while preparing food AND get him some damn jeans that fit. Consider suspenders. Anything. Oh. My. Goodness!! I have been searching for this for years. I am so happy we finally found it. I moved to the area three years ago, and have been trying a multitude of places since COVID started. I like to support local. So I tend to stay away from places like Domino's Been searching for thin and crispy. And this is it! Before ordering, reviews were read, and we decided on an order of Buffalo wings and the Brown Square BBQ Ranch pie. How were they you ask... well, here ya go Wings: I really enjoyed that they came in a cardboard to go container!! Kudos for recycling. The flavor was outstanding. Loved the fact that they are naked, and roasted. However, next time they will be ordered well done. We tend to like them a bit on the crisper side. And, the carrots and celery, that were supposed to come with, were absent. But all is good. I had some at home Pizza Pie: Enjoyed the paper *mesh* in the box, to keep it crispy. The pizza was delivered hot and crusty. Perfect! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that I paid an extra $2 for broccoli which looked like one floret diced for an entire pizza! Great spot with a whole menu of vegan and vegetarian pizza options. I had the high street and it was one of the best vegan pizzas i've ever had. The crust was nice and crisp and they didn't put too much vegan cheese which can often times be soggy or gooey. My boyfriend is not vegan and hot the hawaiian pizza and said it was very good. Below is my original review from a while ago. The place has definitely become more consistent and is now our go-place. Not sure how this happened, it was one of those gradual, barely discernible progressions like hair turning grey. Not much more to say, it's just more consistent and has some nice house pizzas that everyone likes. All this being said, due to past issues it the rating will drop like a stone if things change for the worse. And a little less chunks... As related to me by a relative last night: under-cooked bacon and sloppily applied sun-dried tomato's on some not so special dough. Prepared by apparent middle-schoolers who spread the sauce around with their rubber glove-clad hands and didn't seem to know their way around an oven. An overall crappy experience. But look on the bright side, restaurants seems to suffer from severe consistency problems in the downtown area, with high rents and staff problems the likely culprits, so your results may differ. Food is good, small pizza is the size of a normal large. Really enjoy the thin crust and their pesto sauce on ravioli. Only reason I don't give better stars is because when I order via door dash, the kitchen doesn't follow simple instructions. Have ordered 5 times for delivery and only one order was 100% correct as ordered.Haven't been in person yet. read more

I would LOVE to give this place 4 stars - the pizza is FANTASTIC. The spinach bites are fantastic. Baked chicken wings juicy and plump. But I can't get over how filthy the bathroom is, and the fact that they did not put out paper for drying your hands or other roll of toilet paper. Seriously. The door, walls and floor are pitiful. Crushed me. Why? Because the pizza is REALLY REALLY GOOD. Beer is flowing and cheap. If they could only clean the place just a tad more! I know its a tourist town, but the bathroom in particular was so unbecoming of the fantastic food. So if you must go... then feast and go somewhere else. read more

Went here for dinner while visiting Newburyport. The location is super convenient, right next to the public parking. There's seating on the main floor, an entire upstairs seating, and outdoor seating. The pizza itself was fantastic. We got a small, half was their interpretation of meat lovers and the other was the North End Chicken Parm, which I highly recommend. It took about 20 minutes, we ate there, but they served us with plates utensils and a pizza topper. A wonderful pizza place I won't forget. read more

Tomato chunk overload The pizza was actually quite good. The sauce had amazing flavor. There was no need for the tomato salad under the cheese. This would have been a "great slice" have they invested in proper food processor. Don't mind some tomato bits, ensures that the sauce was not canned or bottled just before they make your pie. The owner was very nice. It seems that's this type of sauce is a local "taste". I had a flashback to a pizza joint we went to as a kid, sans the chunks. That said the pizza is worth the tomato chunks. I will be back. read more

I am a Newburyport native but am just here now as a visitor with family. We had pizza delivered last night and it arrived before promised and fresh and hot. Other people's orders looked amazingly good and they were quite happy. Personally, I got the Joppa Flats pizza and now I don't think I'll be happy with any other pizza. I ordered two Vegan pizzas online (from the West Coast) as a surprise for my friend in Newbury for his BDAY. I totally messed up the requested delivery time by 3 hours (can't believe I forgot about the time change). I called Anchor, literally LAST MINUTE to try to surprise my friend and Anchor was so kind and incredibly helpful. Without hesitation they accommodated my request to bump up the delivery time to as soon as they possibly could (on a Saturday AT LUNCH TIME). I am so impressed w/ them. Great pizza, nice crust, with good sauce. Everything tasted fresh and natural. Got a cheese pizza with chicken caesar salad (the chicken was okay but the salad was fresh with a nice sharp cheese and very good dressing). Ordering online was simple and you can add everything including tip so it's just a hand off. Delivery was fast and professional. Best pizza in Newburyport in my view. read more

To be the perfect cheesesteak, we required a soft roll, high quality meat that wasn't a frozen, chopped product, , enough cheese to taste but not overwhelm the meat, and fresh, not frozen or canned toppings. I'm a mushroom and onion guy while the wife prefers peppers and onions. We also sought just basic, good fries with them. No seasoning or the stucco product a famous chain used or maybe still uses. Port Pizza, located in a semi hidden spot in the far end of a strip containing market Basket and Marshall's met all of our requirements to perfection, and then some. I believe this is the best cheesesteak on the seacoast, and I've tried far too many. Their service was excellent and friendly, and it appeared they genuinely appreciated our business. The restaurant, with maybe a half dozen booths for seating was clean, especially the restrooms. There is ample free parking and there is excellent HP access with not 1 but 2 ramps, plenty of width, and access to those same restrooms. Overall, 4.9 rating. Worth the trip to find, and you won't leave dissatisfied. Side note: We intend to return for what appeared to be the perfect thin crust pizza, but that's a visual opinion, not from experience, yet!

Was looking forward to Upper Crust coming into town. Have tried their other locations and felt UC would be a nice addition to Newburyport. The pizza tasted good but the cheese seems to be of lower quality than I'd expect for the price they're charging. The oil that soaked into the pizza box was a bit more than should have been the case for a high end pizza shop. Seems like Not Your Average Joe's or Oregano still have the edge on high quality pizza. However, my original expectations were for that to be the space Uppers Crusts was going after. Clearly after being in their store they aren't aiming to cater sit down diners, but rather to the take-out crowd. Hopefully there's room in the Pizza Factory / Famous Pizza market for another. Upper Crust will need to lower their price to get their slice of the "pie" ;) read more

Interesting business. I used to work in Newburyport but haven't been back in quite some time. Was here shopping with the wife and thought I'd give this place another try (now that they re-branded themselves away from Upper Crust which was just ok to me - and we weren't a fan of their work ethics). I thought the pizza was pretty darn good this time and would eat it again. But it's good to know they are the same owners as U.C. Hopefully they learned from their mistakes. It's almost hard to write a review about a pizza joint because there's one of every corner now, but for some reason my boyfriend and I always arrive here to eat. The pizza has a nice balance of flavors and yes the portions are large. The pricing is typical , but at the end of the day - pizza is pizza. They have a great staff and convenient location. First time in Newburyport. 3 pm on a Sunday is an awkward time to grab food, so we were happy to land here. Honestly the best pizza I've had in a very long time. Nice crunchy crust, and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful (we had 1/2 cheese and 1/2 sausage and white onion--note they only do half-and-half pizzas in large size, but the two of us demolished the large). I never really understood all the hype about Upper Crust. Maybe I was choosing the wrong toppings for my pizza like another reviewer suggested but it has always just been "kinda okay" pizza & no where as amazing as everyone else makes it seem. Meh. I never thought much of Upper Crust. I used to work downtown Newburyport and it was the most convenient place to grab a slice. I hear they've done some bad things to their immigrant employees. Doesn't make me want to go much when they are in court for things like that. Bottom line, I'd rather hit Flatbread in Amesbury. -fail read more

Great pizza! Yummy somewhat thin crust with huge slices. There's a nice area you can sit upstairs with bathrooms. It's usually quiet and a great place to go with kids. The pizza is usually ready really quickly and the workers are friendly. read more

I ordered 2 slices including the Mighty Meat ($5.50 plus tax), Ultimate Pepperoni ($4.75 plus tax) and added a bag of chips and a Diet Coke for $1.35 more. The 2 slices together were about half of a 14"×16" pie. The Ultimate Pepperoni was topped with char cupped & regular pepperoni, zesty tomato sauce, melted mozzarella cheese. The Mighty Meat was topped with char cupped & regular pepperoni, bacon, sliced meatball, ham & sausage, zesty tomato sauce & melted mozzarella cheese. So I had a second lunch (two slices from a whole pie that I'll finish another day). -- Pepperoni Pizza: I've come to expect high-quality and that's what I got. Lightly charred crust with a fairly firm base, neither done to an extreme. Unexpected was a bit of sourness to the cheese, which was actually a plus, adding complexity. Robust tomato sauce is there in greater supply than most, and I like that. Pepperoni isn't as thick as Tree House, but it's noticeably thicker than most, and much more flavorful. If there's a weakness to this pizza, it's that the crust is more of a vessel (though a well-cooked one) than flavor provider, but it delivers structure. There's more than enough flavor everywhere else. -- Chocolate Chip Cookie: I always covet them but today I took the plunge. I expected good, but not necessarily great beyond pizza cookie standards. It's fairly thin, very bendy, and very moist, with so much chocolate that I feared it would detract from the dough. Not the case: despite a slight resemblance to supermarket bakery cookies, this dough emphasized butter, not sugar. And a fabulous butter at that (probably brown butter), bringing a darker flavor with nutty hints of caramel. Salt crystals on top are cliché nowadays, but restraint ensured they'd enhance, not distract. The flavor got better with every bite. Excellent cookie that would put many full fledged bakeries to shame. Back to the pizza: If you're not into the tomato, the char, or the lack of seating (2 booths), this place might not be for you. But I'm all for the first two and don't mind gambling on seating, because tailgating is always a worthy last resort for pizza this good.

The place is order at the counter with several tables to eat in. They also have online ordering through Toast and offer DoorDash delivery. During my Sunday football ritual, I decided to place a scheduled online order through Toast and ordered a custom Large Half/Half Specialty Pizza ($19 plus tax) with The Homestead/Big Mac halves and Cannolis (2 for $6 plus tax). I headed over to Salem after the afternoon games were done and before the SNF game. I arrived here around 7:36pm with a scheduled 7:30pm pickup. I knew they were behind since the staff was stressing out over the pizza oven not working properly and pizzas in the oven taking a while to bake. My order was all set to go 3 minutes after I arrived. The half/half pizza crust however shrunk a bit to 15"×14.5" diameter instead of the 16" round diameter, which was a firm thin crust, slightly chewy texture. The Homestead had hot pepper jam, pulled pork, pickled onion and cheese base and the Big Mac had mac sauce, ground beef, lettuce, onions, diced pickles & tomato. The pizza choices were fairly good and the tomatoes on the Big Mac slices were a nice touch, though the McD Big Mac does not have tomatoes. The 2 Large Cannolis were filled up nicely with a dense cocoa cream filling in crispy shells and coated with chocolate chips on the ends. I didn't want to stress the staff even more, since their oven wasn't properly working and I only paid $3.50 more for a large vs small pizza. Overall, not too shabby on opening weekend. The pizza tasted just fine and the cannolis were enjoyable. However, they really should QC the pizza sizes (dough amounts/baking crust) to make sure the proper pizza size fills the box properly. I would come back once the kinks work out.
