    Cheese pizza and spinach calzone
    Michelle P.

This is a great spot for really authentic pizza and calzones. The best spinach calzone I have ever had! Friendly people that make you feel like family. A no frills establishment with old time vibes. Be sure to bring cash as they are cash only.

Italian pizza just like in (Southern) Italy! Simple ingredients - just pizza dough and tomato sauce (no garlic, meats, bell peppers or, god forbid, pineapple!) The arancini are the biggest and most crunchy I've ever seen here in U.S. I could finish only half. There is just enough stuffed meat inside to make it savory Umberto is a 'gallery' of food art!

The greatest hole in the wall (literally opens by a garage door that is easily missed) in the North End! Very limited menu, cash only, lunch hours only, but a must stop! The cheapest lunch you can find in the neighborhood haha. Plenty of seats inside for sitting down! Love supporting locals like this who work hard for their community. Our first time having Panzarotti and we were amazed - so good!! No gluten free, vegan, dairy free options.

Super fresh Sicilian pizza constantly coming out from the oven! It's super popular for a quick and cheap bite! You can't find this deal anywhere else and it's small enough and cheap enough to add to your Boston food crawl through little Italy! The pizza itself wasn't anything special but you could really taste all the ingredients and how fresh the house made pizza sauce was! I prefer a more cheesy pizza but I really can't complain at this price!

Delicious pizza, Great service, Feels like a friends kitchen/house. It seems like this place is always busy with locals. The time we went, I feel like my group were the only "tourists". I'm glad I looked at Yelp before I arrived to be sure I understood what to expect when i arrived. The lines are typically right at the door if not out of the door. Really casual dining area - first come first serve. Tables and chairs that can be moved and shifted to accommodate larger or smaller groups. The slices are delicious and a decent size. I was definitely not hungry after eating it. The ariancini is amazing. HOT AS HELL temperature wise, but sooo crispy and delicious. I definitely want to return again. Eat Local - it's delicious.

It's like walking into history and it still feels like the first time every time. Simple pan pizza, great cheese melt, perfect ratio of tomato to cheese, with a fun throw-back vibe, all for $2 and change? Can't beat it. The pizzette is also nice, and lighter than you'd think. Different texture altogether and worth a look. Service is like a well oiled machine that would make even Enzo Ferrari jealous.

What an amazing value in this guy won a James beard award ! Where in the world are you going to get homemade real Italian piece of pizza for $2.25 This was crazy and it was really good .

So glad I found this place on Yelp. It's very hidden and low key, but seems like a local spot. It's cash only and a no frills place. Their prices were very affordable. My friend and I ordered the arancini to share and this thing was massive and delicious. Definitely recommend making a stop here if you can!

2 slices of cheese, 2 arancini, and 1 ham and cheese calzone

Classic spot in the North End! Serving up cheap prices and quick service that you can't beat. Such an OG classic spot. Their pizza is delicious, served hot and super fast too. We came around noon and we had no problem finding a seat. There's plenty of seating inside which is a plus (from the outside it can be deceiving! It doesn't look it, but there's a lot of space inside). We ordered 2 slices of cheese, 2 arancini's, the ham and cheese calzone, and 2 cokes. The arancini's were stuffed with peas and were the size of a tennis ball. So big! We felt that the flavors lacked and the ingredients tasted a tad dry. The calzone was absolutely packed with ham and cheese. One of those is definitely enough to share with someone else, and just know its pretty dense.

2 years I've been trying to get a slice of pizza from the well known Galleria Umberto. The line is either too long, they're closed, or I don't have any cash on me. But that all changed this past Saturday when I finally had the chance to experience one of Boston's greatest food gems. The cheese pizza is hands down, without a doubt, the best slice in Boston. The only thing comparable is the slice of pizza I had in Naples, Italy. The dough is soft, pillowy, and chewy. The tomato sauce tastes fresh, the cheese has a fantastic pull. There's nothing else like it in Boston. Plenty of chairs and tables inside the restaurant as well, but good luck trying to get one in the height of tourist season. I've heard the arancini is fantastic. Hopefully I don't have to wait another two years to try it.

Best pizza in the north end! I have been going to Umbertos to over 50+ years. You can't get a better pizza or arancini! Highly recommend. Get there early or you will miss out!

This pizza was so good! Definitely lives up to the hype. The only critique of the pizza is that I think the sauce needs a little more seasoning. Also, I am pretty sure they only have cheese pizza. Be aware, Galleria Umberto only makes so much pizza each day, so they may run out before their official closing time and close early. So make sure that you're there with plenty of time to spare. The whole time I was there, there was a long line to order. The restaurant is clean and buzzing with people. It's a great stop for lunch!

Incredible arancini, delicious Sicilian pizza, and a perfect panzerotti--simple, old-school, and done right. Cash only, fast service, and absolutely worth the trip. Next time I'm grabbing a calzone and the pizzette. Maybe a panini too. And another arancini. Cute ambiance. Old school charm.

Do they offer non-dairy, plant-based cheese for their pizza? Thank you!

No I don't believe so. Just your classic pizza place!

Anyone know when they are reopening? Heard they are closed for renovations

    They are open now.

What time on a weekday do they typically run out of pizza?

It depends on the day. I was last there on a Friday about 11am they were out of Pizza around 2:30 they also I believe they close for the month of August and go on vacation. My advice is to get there between 10-11am. Good Luck

The former was very very mediocre; it was fresh but the batter seemed soggy and the sauce was watery and weak. However, the fra diovolo was fantastic. Al dente noodles cooked to perfection and the scallops and shrimps were large, juicy, and tender. I'd recommend it for sure; it's one of those dishes you'll definitely be sopping the bread with the leftover sauce (which you should do anyway). Just FYI, it's not spicy at all. Honestly, Giacomo's was a bit disappointing, considering the hype. But I'd still want to come back, and I'm glad I tried it.

One small thing -- maybe it was just me, but the entrance was a little difficult to find at first since it's mainly just a door from the outside. There were also tables seated very close to the entrance, which made it feel a bit cramped and awkward walking in and out. Our waiter was friendly and nice, though the service did feel a little rushed at times. That said, the food was absolutely delicious. The menu refers to these as "Greek cheese bread" but somehow that doesn't do it justice - these were immensely pillowy and cheesy, with an amazing crust, with homemade honey butter on the side. I could have had just these for dinner and been satisfied. They really nailed the bread. My other favorites: 1. Hipiti: spicy whipped feta with crispy potatoes on the side. I don't do well with spice but I absolutely loved this. 2. Marouli: winter lettuce with the most amazing vinaigrette dressing. My only knock to this is, presentation-wise, they serve it with half of the plate empty and the other half with salad. I don't understand why restaurants do this because - one, it only highlights the smaller portion and two, we're just going to mix the salad all around in the bowl anyway. 3. Boudeto: daily catch in a beautiful tomato broth. For a seafood dish at a restaurant in Back Bay, this was priced at a fairly reasonable $28. The only dish that fell a little flat for me was the tzatziki - needed a bit more seasoning. As it was, I was eating mostly just plain yogurt. The table-side preparation was cool, though. The space is its own visual dinner, there's simply a lot to look at (including a drawing of Poseidon riding a surf board). We got the big table in the back, which was a beautiful glass structure with a whole terrarium underneath. We couldn't stop marveling at it throughout the meal. Our waiter was wonderful - very helpful recommendations, came by to check on us often even though we were pretty far in the back, super patient with our questions. Hard to get reservations but worth it! Don't bother driving / trying to find parking unless you're willing to eat a hefty garage fee, it's Back Bay.

The bread had large air pockets, visibly soft, with a rich aroma of salt and milk; the olive oil was smooth and mellow, with a full-bodied fragrance, and the aftertaste even included a subtle, restrained hint of tea. Even knowing it's a calorie bomb, I couldn't resist dipping it in more. Baccala Mantecato: Classic Venetian flavor. The salted cod was tender and delicate, almost like a light foam, somewhere between raw silk and mousse; the dark bread was simple yet not coarse, perfectly balancing the saltiness of the cod. The most surprising thing was the refreshing aroma of celery leaves that emerged in the aftertaste, lingering and persistent. Lumache: When looking at the menu, seeing "chili butter, Jonah crab, breadcrumb," I never expected such a distinct citric acidity. The subtle acidity was gently enveloped in the fatty aroma of chili butter, perfectly complementing the umami and sweetness of the crab meat with just the right amount of spiciness. The lumache were firm and chewy, the sauce rich and smooth, and the breadcrumbs light and crisp, creating a rich and distinct texture. The portion was generous; even after microwaved the next day, the sauce had naturally broken down and the lemon's tartness had dissipated, but the noodles mixed with chili oil still had a unique flavor. Tiramisu: Highly renowned, and the staff were quite confident. The surface was covered with a thick layer of crispy cocoa nibs, the cake itself is incredibly soft and moist, and digging inside reveals an "underground river" of coffee liquid, while its bitterness was perfectly balanced by the sweet Marsala. The overall flavor was sweet and mellow, less bitter than typical tiramisu, with more layers of complexity. Actually, I was hoping for a slightly bitter version. Even on a weekday, it was packed with customers; by 5:10 PM, only one bar seat was left. Reservations are highly recommended. However, the bar was in a good location, with the bartenders being the easiest servers to find. It was a pleasant conversation with them.

The service here was attentive with the waiters offering more bread for the mussels. Most dishes are a little spicy, so if you don't like spice, make sure to note that with the waiter. The miso gelato is one of the most delicious savory/sweet desserts, and has lots of nice crunchy accents of the sesame crumble. Cocktails are fabulous, very smooth, as well as the mocktails. Cons: The crostini was nothing really special, and one of them came without the oyster butter. The meatballs, which were tasty but had a slightly hard texture on the outside. The prawn risotto was pretty one-note in flavor, and the prawn heads tasted overcooked and slightly off. The radiatore was spicy and nicely plated. The Cremoso al Cioccolato had a strange flavor profile that didn't quite fit, and had such a large salted chocolate-truffle section that we did not finish it (which is saying something)! Overall, if you are looking for a solid dinner in Boston that will guarantee be a nice experience because of the atmosphere, this is a good place.

Salty Pig Pizza: A pizza with the same name as the restaurant! Who was the genius who came up with the idea of salted pig and beer caramel? It's brilliant! The salted pork appears to include Prosciutto di Parma from Langirano, Prosciutto Cotto, and Salcissia. Baking rendered the prosciutto's fat, which blends with the caramel to create a beautiful golden syrup that flows across the pizza's surface. The prosciutto was savory, oily, and tender; the minced salcissia retains its coarse texture and rich meaty aroma; the caramel was sweet and mellow with a honey-like sweetness, forming the top, middle, and base notes respectively. The arugula was slightly warmed, losing its astringent and raw taste while maintaining its crisp texture, helped to cut through the richness together with the Parmesan cheese powder. The crust was crispy, while the inside the dough was soft and chewy. The cooking time and seasoning were all just right, and the restaurant's proud wooden oven added a charming smoky flavor. Affogato: I had high expectations, but it was just okay. The espresso was too sour, and the vanilla ice cream couldn't balance it out.
