What a great little grocery store! While you wi t find every item here that larger grocery stores carry, everything here is high quality. The organic produce is excellent. And the deli, bakery, and prepared foods. I love the seafood salad, and it makes great sandwiches with the croissants. There are many specially items that aren't found in other stores. This is a very pleasant store to shop in, and the cashiers are friendly and helpful. There is also a nice seating area in the front of the store with tables and chairs. A nice place to sit and eat a snack or lunch on the go. If I ever need to pick up just a few groceries I like to come here. It is easy in and easy out. Never a long line. A very pleasant shopping experience. This could be the only spot in the city where you can pick up a bottle of Peter Luger steak sauce. They have a decent amount of organic vegetables and fruits, not as much as WF but it's fine. Their breads are well done, and a standout is the baguette. The rotisserie chicken salad is a stand-out, and you get 4 free croissants when you purchase a pound of chicken salad. The shelves are full of hard to find items. This store is great, but the customer service is outstanding. Today I stopped in after work to pick up a Too Good To Go order, and when I went to leave, my car wouldn't start. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I went back inside to ask if anyone would be able to give me a jump. I'm glad I finally made it to The Fresh Market to check it out and get some groceries. I just had lunch and knew a snow storm was coming later on in the day, so I stopped in The Fresh Market to get a few groceries. I was very impressed with the ambiance of the grocery store because it was easy to navigate around the store, and it was very upscale and nice decor. The Fresh Market is about as pricey as Whole Foods Market, so if you are on a budget then I would watch how much you spend at this store. However, the products are high quality and organic, and of course, very fresh, so you are getting your money's worth when you shop at The Fresh Market. The service is wonderful and professional. Every one I encountered at The Fresh Market smiled at me and was very helpful. The cashier who checked me out was excellent and had a great sense of humor, so she kept me laughing and made me smile as well. I love the products at The Fresh Market and I like the fact that I am paying for high quality and fresh all natural products. Yes, it is pricey and can be expensive if you shop here on a regular basis, but you are getting the best quality products for your buck. Stopped in this morning for some fresh flowers. Although I thought they were priced kind of high, they are very healthy and have seemed to have gotten even perkier when I put them in water at home. While there I did find a few other deals. The chicken salad was amazing on their croissants that were free with the purchase of the chicken salad. The seafood salad was a little stringy but flavor was on point. I picked up some moondrop grapes which are so sweet and amazing. Store was clean and well stocked. read more

Today was my first visit to this location. I missed the Fishers store and just stumbled across this one today. It's a very nice store and everyone was very friendly. However, I purchased challah bread which was very hard when I came home . Also , purchased a tuna croissant sandwich . The croissant was stale and the bottom half rock hard. 8.99 and I threw it away . I'll likely not buy breads there again . read more

This tiny, yet efficient grocery store has the freshest, most beautiful, vibrant and long-lasting flowers that I've ever purchased from a grocery store. I bought some nearly two weeks ago and they are still going strong. They had some really beautiful sunflowers with big, strong stalks and I hope they have them whenever these roses die off. The store gives me Trader Joe's meets farmer's market vibes. Almost all of the bakery goods, including the bread, are baked daily in-house. All of the meat is fresh and sold exclusively at the meat counter; no pre-packaged goods. I think they only have 3-4 short aisles for dry goods and they are mostly organic and would be considered "healthier" options. My daughter got a Caesar Salad from the deli and it was loaded with freshly shaved parmesan cheese, what appeared to be freshly baked croutons and the dressing was to-die-for! I'll be grabbing one soon....probably tomorrow! read more

I was worried when moving away from the small community of Broad Ripple that I would be moving away from the experience of small shops and stores. So happy when I found that this was one of my closest grocery stores. This location is 8 minutes from my new house and has the same small, upscale market feel as the other location. Conveniently located, and sharing a parking lot with other great shops, Fresh Market stocks all of our favorites. I found the staff to be helpful and available when needed, and the prices to be within expectations. The store can be a bit pricier, and may not have some of the major brands that you may see at other stores-- a niche market, for sure, but the selection and quality are great. Fresh Market has a great Deli, a variety of produce, and everything you'll need to stock your pantry. Even though the store is a lot smaller than most groceries, the layout and flow of the aisles help to organize the traffic and I never find myself overwhelmed by crowds, at either location. Corbin was our cashier, and worth noting that his friendliness and efficiency was amaaaazing. Happy to call this location our new grocery store. read more

I shop at Fresh Market for the freshness and quality of their produce, fish and meat, deli offerings, and bulk snacks and spices. Other players have entered the "Market market" since they've opened in Carmel, namely EarthFare, Fresh Thyme and Market District. Not gonna lie, I shop there too. So what keeps us coming back to The Fresh Market? 1) Shopping at TFM is an experience. The second you walk in, you're greeted by lovely flowering plants and classical music. You can grab a coffee sample to take with as you make your way through the produce section. (And this is brilliant marketing as I currently have no less than 7 bags of their coffee in my pantry!) My son has been a member of their Cookie Club since they opened, so I get zero pushback from him when it's time to shop. 2) Where I think they really stand out is their meat and fish department. They have marinated and pre-prepared cuts like chicken roll-ups, beef skewers, mushroom and cheese burgers, crab cakes, and many more that make fancy meal prep easy. I have directly compared side by side their meat and fish with other stores', and TFM wins for quality (freshness, tenderness, flavor) every time. 3) This is my go-to store for fantastic meals with a minimum of prep time. They carry all in one dinners for two with their 3-course Market Meal Kits. Physically the store revolves around their 4-sided deli department, and rightly so. I love the freshness and selection of their deli including cooked and BBQ chicken and ribs on one side, free-standing seafood and olive bars, sushi, pizza and soups, and meats and cheese. The prepared mains and sides portion hosts a big assortment and their Bistro Meal, which includes a protein and 2 sides, is awesome at $7.99. 4) I take advantage of their on-going specials. They give 10% off 4 bottles or more on wine, all the time. Chicken breast and ground chuck are on sale for $2.99/lb every Tuesday. But my absolute fave is their Big Little Meal deal whereby once a week they offer a 3-4 course meal for 4 for $20. I've wondered if it's not a loss leader just to get people in the store. I've routinely saved $12-20 (that's half-price folks!) or more on the deal. 5) Check out is a breeze ... head and shoulders above everyone else. They are the only ones to send me my receipt via email, and now they have an app. Check out is amazingly fast in that lines are quick. I don't have to swipe a special card or give them my phone number for the umpteenth time. They never screw up or play pricing games--so there's never any unpleasant surprises. Their chip readers are like no other, lightning fast and pure magic compared to everyone else's. They can be a little pricey, but not if you know HOW to shop there. Maybe my new favorite grocery store. I generally avoid these trendy stores but today stopped by for deli meat to make sandwiches. When I entered the store the produce looked like a work of art, stacked artistically looking so fresh and beautiful. As I worked my way back to the deli I noticed delightful angus beef sliders on the counter as samples. I couldn't resist. The clerk asked if I needed something and I said I was looking for deli meat. She offer me samples of fresh German bologna which I tasted and decided it would pair perfectly with tomatoes from my garden. The clerk was so friendly. And what great service. Then I noticed stuffed burgers in the meat case only $4.99 a pound. One was stuffed with portobellos and cheese and the other with bacon and cheddar. We got one of both to share. The burgers were almost a half pound each. We took them home and cooked on the grill for 8 minutes. They tasted like steaks. So good. Better that steaks we had been getting elsewhere. I saw some great looking pasties in the bakery including spinach stuffed croissants. Oo- la- la. I resisted the pastries but made a mental note. The pies looked incredible. My friend and I had just finished lunch and we saw this store and decided that we would check it out. I ended up getting a small Christmas tree and I am very happy about it and although it is small, it still smells amazing! Walking around the store I realized that they have a big variety of freshly made goods - from baked items to the deli, to servings for one. I think this would be a great place to go when looking for a specific item (a certain cheese/ cut of meat, etc.), but for overall grocery shopping I think it is a little too niche for me and the prices were too steep for my budget. The deli/ meat counter had freshly made meatloaf and other kinds of meats (seasoned seafood and chicken and pork, etc.) that I would like to go back and try! This place is probably the most beautiful grocery store I've ever been in. Because they're small and more specific of a store, I recommend coming here specifically for: good cuts of meat, freshly baked rolls, delicious side dishes, pre-made sandwiches and pizzas or wine (they have a large selection). I never do my full grocery haul here, as the price tag is more expensive than your normal store and they don't have a lot of bigger-name brands. This boutique grocery store has more unique brands, and really crushes it in terms of items made in-house. Their bakery, dessert area, meat counter, etc have amazing customer service and delicious food, so this would be a "treat yourself" grocery stop or a great place to get a gift for someone or a new twist on ingredients you're already using. The atmosphere in here is incredible and peaceful. Honestly I sometimes just want to walk around here and browse - haha. The classical music, nice staff and small layout make you feel comfortable and luxurious while you shop around. read more

Chose this place for our Thanksgiving turkey. Won't do it again. The pick up was very unorganized. At least 30-40 people waiting around for food. Waited about 45 minutes to pick up a cooked turkey, gravy and rolls. The rolls and gravy were average. The Turkey was frozen solid and small. Brought Turkey home and put it in fridge. Took it out at 11:00am the next day and it was still very frozen. Opted to slice it frozen, put in roaster and cook. It cooked fine but because it was frozen it released so much water the turkey disintegrated. It was already a small bird. Thankfully I had bought a Heavenly Ham so we had another protein to go along with our shredded Turkey. It was a dud. Back to Big Hoffas for a smoked Turkey next year. read more

There was a time when a store like this would be exceptionally unique in the metro area, but now, even some of the big box groceries are giving these stores some competition for finding high quality items. The store seems more intimate than the big box places, which if you are having a stressful day, or simply want to avoid the large crowds can be a nice change of pace. I was pleased to see so many "stations" set up where you can get lots of choices of things like olives, nuts, coffee, tea, juices, and even some pastries in the back. You won't find many of the big box lines of food here, so if you have a household that wants some of the more common items, you may have to go elsewhere unless you can persuade your young one to try a different brand. On my trip, I was particularly interested in some tea and found they had several lines with lots of different options available. Service was friendly and the checkout line was quick. I like that! Fresh Market appeals to the bourgeois side of my personality: the side that likes to shop for organic produce surrounded by mood lighting while listening to instrumental jazz music. Yes, this store has all that. If you're familiar with the West Coast grocery stores Bristol Farms or Gelson's, Fresh Market is just like those two, except smaller in size -- I'd call it more "intimate." This is one of those grocery stores that I enjoy just walking around and looking at things. During my last visit, I discovered that they sell a Fresh Market brand of hand soap that smells like lime and cilantro! It took a lot of willpower not to buy it right on the spot. But it made me happy to know something like that existed anyway. One thing to keep in mind about this location: the entering and exiting doors open almost immediately onto the street. That's no big deal when you're entering the store, but if you forget when you're exiting, then you might push your cart out in the path of a car! It's seriously that close. I will go ahead and give Fresh Thyme four stars as they are a good little grocery store overall with competitive prices on many things. Have always enjoyed the salmon and shrimp from Fresh Thyme but the beef is generally subpar in taste. I have tried the beef several times and always seem to have a negative experience with it. I suspect that we use Fresh Market the same way most people do: We don't buy our day-to-day 'staples' there, but we do like to treat ourselves once in a while to a higher quality grocery experience. I think the word that best describes Fresh Market is "curated", meaning they don't try to be all things to all people. Instead, they carry a relatively small number of purposely-selected food items that appeal to their target niche. Yes, everything is more expensive here, but you'll find an awesome selection of high-end and gourmet food items. One of the items we brought home from Fresh Market last week was Mama Mancini's Meatballs. I could have made our own, but I didn't feel like it, so I outsourced the meatballs for our pasta dinner. Last week, there was a public event that my husband was hosting where 100 people were expected and the caterer didn't show up. When he found out, it was about 20 minutes before the event was supposed to start. He asked if there was anything I could do. I rushed in to the Fresh Market in Carmel and told them about my situation. They immediately dropped what they were doing and whipped up several sandwich platters and charcuterie boards. Within 20 minutes, I had 6 trays of food, cookies, extra trays, and everything we needed to cater the event. The store manager and several employees even carried the trays out to my car for me without me even having to ask. Every single time I have visited the store, the employees have been so helpful and kind. The employees at Fresh Market truly seem to care about their customers which seems so very rare these days. VerdicTL;DR: The Paradox of Choice, if the Paradox of Choice were a grocery store. We instinctively recognize that being in a no-choice scenario is a terrible thing. In our daily lives we always negotiate for more choice, not less; customization, not standardization; modularity, not a monolith. The collective religion of the modern era is the Gospel According To Choice And Free Will -- and the god that we worship is a cruel god indeed. Cognitive researchers have long suspected that there is only one thing that is worse to the human psyche than no choice: and that is too much choice. This line of thought is perhaps most famously summarized in a book entitled "The Paradox of Choice", written in 2004 by a psychologist named Barry Schwartz. Now, there are scholarly articles that argue that Schwartz was completely right, and there are other scholarly articles that argue that he was completely wrong. In this review, though, I want to show you how the Paradox of Choice is alive and well in the grocery store industry, at the very least. All grocery stores make certain guarantees about their products -- but outside of that, they will each optimize on different things. You could be a national behemoth like Kroger -- in which case you are going to optimize on choice at the expense of all else. You could be a different kind of national behemoth like Aldi -- in which case you are going to optimize on price at the expense of all else. Or you could be a small national chain like Fresh Market -- and here you are optimizing on a curated library of goods, all of which are top notch. In that respect, paradoxically, it is Aldi that is most similar to Fresh Market. There is a clear difference in quality -- you can see it, feel it, touch it, taste it. But in both places, what you get is what you get. You don't have a choice of every single possible kind of spaghetti sauce -- you only have a shelf to choose from. You don't have a choice of every single possible kind of pastry -- you only have a case to choose from. You know what kind of quality you are getting (mediocre in the case of Aldi, high in the case of Fresh Market). The consistency is key; you don't walk into Aldi expecting Fresh Market quality, and you don't walk into Fresh Market expecting Aldi prices. You *might* (and I stress might) be able to get Fresh Market quality *and* Aldi prices at a place like Kroger, but this will amount to a very large-scale expenditure of time and effort. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is an illustration of the Paradox of Choice. When I go to Fresh Market, I am getting a small, curated selection of top-notch goods. The meat selection in specific is worthy of praise: you won't get finer steaks anywhere, even from local private butchers. I once staged a blinded steak taste test with the same cut (boneless ribeye) from Fresh Market, Fresh Thyme, Earthfare, and Kroger -- the Fresh Market steak stood out head and shoulders above the others. I close with this: we are in the midst of an unprecedented obesity crisis worldwide. This crisis is most acute amongst the developed nations. It is now arguably more expensive to buy raw ingredients than it is to buy heavily processed foods -- which are high in calories but (a) built specifically to trigger food addiction and (b) not high in overall nutritional value. We have embraced the values of abundance and choice as a society at large, and these are the negative effects: paradoxically, there are more fast food chains than there are grocery stores in economically disadvantaged areas. The rate of diabetes and other metabolic syndromes is on a sharp upward swing not only amongst that economically disadvantaged population, but in us all. It is long past time that we had a better, more healthy relationship with our food. We should pay more for it, and we should treat it like the precious thing that it is. We should not have such a proliferation of fast food chains, and we should not have such a proliferation of restaurants. Places like Fresh Market remind us of this. Cook at home, and eat at home; enjoy the work of your hands; eat less; live more. read more

This grocery store is amazing. It's aptly named Fresh Market because there are so many fresh options here. Their produce selection is wonderful but the big super state here is the deli and meat section. Their meat case is full of super quality meat and seafood and their butchers are very knowledgeable and offer to cut and customize your selection to fit your exact needs. The deli case is full of prepared salads and dishes that can be reheated and use insightful and quality ingredients. There are many items here that are not available at your local grocery store. Lots of organic options as whole foods available for purchase. One of my favorite sections here is the nut section where you can grind your own nut butters. It's also worth mentioning that they have an extensive beer and wine section. read more

I love Fresh Market, especially this location because the produce is fresh and staff are friendly. BUT today I was disappointed. There were several signs posted outside/on the doors "Please don't enter without a mask"... wish I'd taken a picture but I was caught off guard and didnt think to. Although I understand the good intention behind the sign, it's not taking a lot of things into consideration. First and foremost it's every individual's right to choose whether to wear a mask or not. Second, some people may be unable to wear something that restricts/obstructs their ability to breath. Third some people may choose not to wear something that covers their face for fear of their safety from other's negative stereotypes/reactions. Although the store has a right to make this request I wish they would reconsider rewording or removing these signs. I did not go in because I didn't have a mask on and did not feel welcome to nor did I want to deal with possible glares/comments of anyone in the store due to these signs. read more

First visit here & I was amazed at the floral selection upon entering. They are currently having a Friday special $15 for a dozen roses + a dozen chocolate covered strawberries!! Walking farther into the store I notice classical music playing, nice ceramic tiled floors & non-fluorescent lighting throughout....I feel strangely at home. They have a smaller selection of groceries to choose from but it's not surprising considering the store is on the smaller side. Despite having less variety, I've found several positives. There is a good selection of low sodium chips for my family (not as low sodium as some at Whole Foods but fairly close.....& you have to have some variety right?) They also have a variety of wine chilling in the cooler with other non-alcoholic beverages. A small selection of "create your own 6 pack" & a decent selection of non-chilled wines rounds out their 21+ section. Prices are comparable to Trader Joe's & Whole Foods but I really really like the very friendly staff & ambiance of this location. While I can't do ALL my grocery shopping here it'll be a nice change of pace. (I'm making sure my husband learns about the floral department.....I REALLY like flowers!) read more

I don't come here often, but when I do I always hit the jackpot! I can always trust their floral selection to be fresh, beautiful and fairly priced. I've won over Mom and Grandma on many a Mother's Day with these arrangements. I'll also hit them up when they have a good deal in their deli because you really can't beat the quality of their ground beef or chicken breasts. Seriously, you notice a difference between their food and another less expensive chain! The employees are incredibly friendly and smart in their products. If you have to buy one thing from The Fresh Market, grab the Cajun crab dip. It is so high demand in my house that we can't buy it very often because it's always gone by the end of the night! Do I come here all the time for groceries? Definitely not. I'm an Aldi gal. But Fresh Market wins in certain areas.
