I came on a Sunday night to order takeout for a gathering with friends. The restaurant itself was quite dim and had tables with tablets. We got the half and half chicken bucket for $44.99 and picked original and soy garlic flavor. We also got their rose rice cake for $19.99 and deep fried calamari for $12.99. it came with pickled daikon. The chicken was good, juicy and crispy. However, I felt like the original chicken and the calamari were both not seasoned very well. The soy garlic flavor was very delicious and I do recommend it. The rose rice cake was decent. It came with rice cakes, glass noodles, sausages and bacon. But for 20$, I felt like the portion size was a bit small. Overall: Decent Korean fried chicken but a bit expensive. read more

We went in person for the first time, we ordered the exact same fried chicken, and it was even more crispy and juicy! Really good chicken. We were given a corn cheese on the house, which we found a bit lacking, but can't complain because it was on the house. I loved the saucy batch we had, but could have been just a bit crunchier. The cheese corn was very plain (no sugar or sweetness) and barely had a cheesy texture or taste once it was all mixed up. I get the craving for Korean Fried Chicken once in a while and the feeling hit yesterday. We decided to check out The Fry as we've seen multiple locations across Toronto. We got Combo A which came with the Special Half and Half and an order of Fries. We also grabbed a Sapporo black that they had on tap. The first thing to arrive was the free sides! We got a dish of cabbage salad, pickled radish and bubbling hot sweet corn. All of this was for free and part of service. Our beer came next, quickly followed by the fries. I like that they bring out something for you nibble on as you wait for your freshly made fried chicken. Our half and half came in two large baskets of chicken (we chose spicy savory and garlic soy). The spicy savory chicken was generously coated in a sticky red sauce with the right amount of kick, while the garlic soy were dry wings with a sweet aftertaste. Really liked that the batter didn't get too soggy, even when covered in sauce. The chicken itself was great, as both the white and dark meats were juicy and tender. At the time I went, indoor seating was not yet available, but it's a bit spacious inside. Can accommodate medium sized groups. Interior also pretty modern with warm and bright ambience. Service was good, staff was nice when I ordered over the phone for takeout. Food What I like about The Fry is their daily special. Each day is a different menu item and it only costs about $10-$12! I came on a Wednesday and had their standard Korean Fried Chicken. You can opt in a sauce for about $1, but this one is just plain original. Portion size is huge and can definitely fill 2 people! For the value it's awesome. The chicken pieces were big, with more focus on the meat rather than heavy thick fried batter. It's very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The original flavour has no sauce, so some may find it a little dry (but was okay for me). The Fry has been around for quite a few years and I'm glad they're still having consistent quality. Went here after a concert (Ateez!!!) because we had a craving for Korean food and we had heard about The Fry a couple of months ago. The food definitely didn't disappoint. We ordered the Butter Garlic Fries and they were heavenly. Had a hint of sweetness to it but it was balanced out pretty well with the saltiness from the garlic. We also ordered the Hot Cheesling Chicken, which was very cheesy but not very hot. I think it would have been a lot more tasty if it was spicy, but it was still pretty good. It was also a bit pricey but I guess that's kind of expected for Toronto XD! There was only one person working the counter, which was ok for the time we went at, but it probably wouldn't be good during a more busy time. The atmosphere inside was very nice and ambient, but the lights were super dim so it kind of felt dark as soon as we walked in. The Fry is honestly my favourite Korean fried chicken place in Toronto. My go-to order is always the special half and half with both secret savoury and spicy secret savoury fried chicken. The chicken is fried to perfection, with the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and tender, moist meat on the inside. The sauce they use is the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy for me; I find this ratio can be off from my preferences at other Korean fried chicken places, often leaning more towards spicy. The fry continues to be one of my fave kfc spots. They offer 10% with cash. There's no parking for this location but there is green p parking around the corner. The location is small so can fill up fast when it's busy. When you dine in they give you sugary corn, cabbage and radish for sides. My favourites are the savoury boneless chicken, garlic butter fries and rose tteokbokki. The soy garlic is on the drier side. Worst customer service ever. The food is good. Have eaten at multiple locations before but the service here was just trash. - spoke with the server to get a table and they didn't return for over 30 minutes. Eventually just seated ourselves. - couldn't get the server again and had to wipe our own table - finally ordered just before we were going to walk out 1 hour later. The sever didn't know the menu and grabbed my phone to check something on the online menu. Just disrespectful - couldn't get the server to order drinks. Had to go inside and order. - food took so long to arrive - couldn't even get the server to get the bill Eventually a different server started to work and things appeared to go better but the attitude and service of the initial server was so poor I would NEVER, EVER, EVER GO TO THIS LOCATION AGAIN. This was by far the best fried chicken I've had in Toronto. It's spicy, delicious and for $30 you get a whole clucking chicken to devour with a mate (or yourself). Batter is amazing and not heavy at all. Such a unique taste and it doesn't overpower the chicken. Get the garlic fries, they are delicious. You must go here! COVID: temperature check at door. January 18, 2020 - My coworker wanted to go out and eat after work, so he asked me to pick a location and order for us. When we arrived we were told that the machines were down I in the area and if we had cash. I said that we didn't have cash. So the server advised us we can do etransfer. So we decided to stay since the server gave us that option. I ordered: Yogurt soju Cheese powder fries Boneless green onion chicken Spicy rice cake with bbq chicken Everything was so good, when it came time to pay a different server told us that they do not offer etransfer. My coworker was super pissed that that wasn't what the original sever said. He then had to leave and get cash. He walked to RBC and came back with almost the exact amount to pay the bill with like 4dollars tip . He rated the food 5/5 but the customer service 1/5. I've been there many times and this was my first time experiencing any issue there. I know it's not the employees fault that the machines were down. But don't mention something that can't be done. It wasn't hard to fall in love with Korean fried chicken especially when it's flavourful just like the sweet and spicy fried chicken at the fry. Okay, honestly I've been to many locations of the fry and I find this one as the most relaxing. I always order the cheese fries with sweet and spicy chicken. The onion one was good but i'd always go back to my default. And it's a perfect combo with Kloud and soju. When im with group of 3 or 4, two large chicken is always too much. Their main feature is their fried chicken. They have other sides and soups if you want to try those. Lots of drink options to choose from, including soju, plum wine, and beers. Place gets busy. There was a large line forming at the door. They had only two waitresses working, so things can get hectic since they're constantly walking back and forth between clearing tables, checking up on the line, handling pick-up orders, attending to customers, etc. We got a large order of green onion fried chicken (with bones), and a small order of crispy chicken (for size comparison) A plate of side-dishes and a hot plate of corn came out as we waited for the chicken. 5 or 10 minutes later the chicken arrives. The large order is pretty large. They say that it is good for 2 people, maybe 3, and that's about right depending on how much you eat. The small order is good for one person, possibly two. Skins were crisp. Meats were tender. Green onion fried chicken comes with sauce drizzled over it and a stack of green onions on top. Crispy chicken came with sauce on the side. Sauce was a bit sweet, so might have been plum sauce, don't know. The chicken itself had extra batter and wasn't drenched over it, which I suppose is what makes it "more crispy" than the other offerings. Enjoyed the fried chicken. Good for groups, but line-ups may get crazy. You might choose to just place an order for pick-up and watch everyone look at your box of chicken on your way out. read more

What I got: Half half original and secret savoury sauce ($29.99) Pros: - The portions are pretty big, a small size is about half a chicken and definitely filling. It's a little on the expensive side compared to place like St Louis' wings but the portions and cuts are larger. - Side dishes are refreshing and refillable, the radish and cabbage are good to pair with the heaviness of the chicken. The corn and cheese side dish was really good- sweet and savoury! - I really liked the secret savoury chicken sauce, wasn't too spicy and went well with the crispy skin of the chicken. - The original chicken comes with a dipping sauce that tastes like kimchi, which was good too. Cons: - The reason I took 1 star off was because there was a hair in the batter of my savoury chicken, so when I ate it, I had to spit it out and dissect what that was. - I took the other star off because the centre of some larger chunks of chicken was dry and not as marinated understandably. Really liked their boneless fried chicken with their secret savoury sauce- it was a little bit sweet like honey was in it. Once we got in and asked for a table, she looked at me like she didn't understand what I was saying in English and walked away.. I had to request for her to put our name down on a waiting list and to call us when there was a free table while we walked around for an hour and went for drinks. The Fry was my go to for Korean Fried Chicken but have noticed the quality isn't as the same as before. I came here with my friend for dinner on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy so service was on the slower side. We were also seated at a smaller table and we did order a couple dishes: half and half chicken, fries, soju and we were given corn with butter and the coleslaw, onion, and salad trio. There were barely enough space on the table so it was a bit of an uncomfortable dining experience. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tasted so good but some of the pieces were so dry. The pieces that were juicy on the inside tasted like heaven though. The fries came out piping hot, straight from the fryer. I feel like the experience here can be a hit or miss, I don't know if I ever want to come back here, if I do, I'll go to a different location instead. read more

Came in a large group (10 ppl) and we ordered large sizes of the (1) boneless chicken with green onion, (2) fried chicken in spicy sauce, (3) fried chicken in sauce, and (4) garlic butter fries. My favourite item of the evening was the fried chicken in sauce. I found that this one had the right amount of flavouring, whereas green onion one was sparce on seasoning, and the spicy one was way spicy. The overall texure of the chicken was nice, with crispy breading and tender chicken. Garlic butter fries weren't my thing - they had a good texture (crispy outside), but they had a sweet taste which was weird. As for the appetizers, the lettuce salad was average, but I enjoyed the coleslaw and the cubes of pickled something (not sure what it was). The corn kernels on the pan were awesome! We were seated near the door, and we were cold for most of the time, because the door was left open whenever anyone exited or entered. Someone from our group had to keep getting up to shut the door. Best thing about the meal? Came out to about $12 per person, including tax and tip. Good place to go for groups. Also good service. read more

My favourite Korean green onion boneless fried chicken place. I ONLY recommend this dish and the butter garlic fries if you are going to be eating here. The fry is a place to socialize over delicious fried foods and an assortment of Korean Street food for sharing. First, they welcome you with an assortment of cold side dishes. This includes their sweet cubed pickled radishes, green salad, and cole slaw. Some of the yummiest side dishes to accompany a nice bite of green onion chicken! (As a side note, ask them to refill it if you run out). Each table also gets their own sizzling hot buttered corn. While this dish isn't refillable, it's delicious Korean buttered corn which most places don't offer as a side. Finally, the food. Again, only order the boneless green onion fried chicken. We once had the misfortune of eating normal green onion fried chicken which was drier and not as juicy as the boneless version. Also, if you're a sauce person, ask for some extra on the side. Each piece is lightly battered and juicy. It's meant to be eaten with the shredded green onions, so don't be afraid to take a bite of them together! Also, if you like honey butter flavoured things, you won't be disappointed by the butter garlic fries which are a MUST every time we go. All in all, in love with the green onion chicken here!
