Me and my husband are Dixon locals and we love the frying pan! It's our go to spot when we want to eat out. Im not a huge sushi/seafood person so I usually order the fried Cali roll and substitute the seaweed with rice paper. It's sooo good. I bookmark this place a while ago but also heard great things about it. On our way back from Lowe's in Vacaville we decided that we were craving sushi and so hubby suggested this place. Easy to fine it's on one of their main streets in Dixon. Was able to find parking right in front of the place park and walked in. We were friendly greeted by a young lady. She seated us immediately and grab our drink orders and told us the menu was on a QR code. The menu was pretty extensive lotta choices to choose from. Hubby ordered 3 rolls from them 3 times a lady (no rice tuna salmon yellow fin Fried with ponzu sauce sesame seed oil, Tobiko and unagi sauce), Sunset (thinly slice tuna Rolled up with a little bit of rice top with tobiko and a quail egg), and baked Fuji roll (crab and avocado, topped with sliced scallop, parmesan sauce, unagi sauce) and I ordered the spicy tundra crispy rice for a app and a 2 item bento box which I chose mixed tempura and beef bulgogi. It also came with a side of white rice a piece of Gyoza and a house-made salad dressing and garden salad. Portion size look really decent and big good price for everything. Everything came out at a decent time. Our waitress was freaking amazing and very attentive every time she approached our table. I truly do not know how this place has good reviews. The staff and service is friendly but that's it! I ordered a bento box which came with bulgogi beef, rice, salad, gyoza, and two sushi rolls. One was the spicy tuna and one was called the philly roll. The beef was bland and the only good thing in the bento box was my salad. Not sure if it was an off day, but this had to be some of the WORST sushi I have ever had. The spicy tuna was mushy, and my philly roll had bland slimy salmon in it, with hard cold pieces of cream cheese. I couldn't even finish the philly roll, I left it on my plate. Horrible. Not fresh tasting at all. The restaurant was also very dirty and had a weird bleach smell inside. Rolls weren't good at all! I actually am experiencing symptoms of food poisoning (severe diarrhea) about an hour after eating here. Please avoid! Even Safeway makes better, fresher tasting sushi. read more

Not in to superlative descriptions but even if I were in to them, this place wouldn't deserve one. It's very good. It's in Dixon! Being in Dixon does not eliminate the possibility of it being "the best"- it just isn't. It's very good. On the front of the menu it reads "Hana Sushi" because it is Hana Sushi according to the waitress. Confused yet? So many variations for rolls with pictures in the menu pages. Tried two today and they were very good. Not the best. And while this is Dixon, that does not give them extra credit. My rolls seemed very different on paper yet very similar on the plates. Overall we had a great experience here, but there were a few things that just didn't satisfy us. The chicken Katsu was amazing. Perfectly fired and a nice portion. The order comes with Miso Soup, side salad, shrimp tempura, 1 pot sticker with barbque sauce and white rice. The 1 potsticker was a bit odd. I wasn't sure if it was intentional or just a filler for the tray. The BBQ sauce didn't pair well. The miso soup was a major let down. I had one tiny piece of tofu, no veggies, just broth. The shrimp tempura was bland and under seasoned. The sushi was spot on and exactly what we were looking for. The Lil Zazi and the Spider roll were AMAZING! If you like crispy, cooked rolls then these are the rolls for you. The place looked a bit dirty and lighting made the environment feel dark and gloomy. I'm surprised Dixon has a decent sushi joint in The Frying Pan. I've had the chance to have lunch here a few times and each time I haven't been disappointed. Recently I brought my niece here with me and she also had a good experience. Prior to last week I've only tried their Shrek roll. On the last visit we tried their Hunny Bunny and Hailstorm rolls (both yummy and fresh, flavorful), along with their house salad (really good sesame dressing on top) and Miso soup (fresh but on the plain side). Customer service is always good and inside is nice and clean. If you're looking for good sushi in town this is definitely the spot. Will return in the near future when the cravings arise. read more

The best sushi in the area. The only sushi place I ever go to, nothing compares. The staff is incredibly friendly and so sweet to my kids. Vast menu options and also incredibly creative, you will not find any place with similar roles or menu options. Sushi is always amazing. Sashimi is fresh. Service is hit and miss. This is expected when you turn over servers. But when the daughter of the establishment is your waitress and her attitude is condescending and wreaks of entitlement....well. No thank you. We came in and saw a couple we knew and asked if we could join our 4 top to theirs. During dinner, we had to ask for sake to be warmed after it was served. Waitress asked "why it's not hot enough?" Well of course not. She laughed and heated it up more. Then we explained to her how hot sake should be when served. We also asked for 3 cups of ice. When brought to our table, each cup was barely 1/2 full. Causing us to have to order more. They ran out of soy sauce/wasabi tiny dishes so we got plastic to go containers. Near the end our friend Kurt told waitress he knew the owner and if he was there. Waitress said "yes I know him too he's my dad." She then brought us our bill but did not clear the table. She wanted to let us know that although our bill had $161 what we had to sign was for a bill for $126 and the gratuity is always added for tables of six or more. This is where it all went to hell. Both myself and the couple we were with are past restaurant owners. We disagreed to this and offered to leave a bigger tip without a gun to our head. She said "well some customers just don't leave a tip so we have to do this". That's not our problem. She listened with a "I don't care" attitude. She never had the actual owner come talk to us. So for this, we will not return. We will eat sushi twice a month in Vacaville or Davis. The frying pan has a shortage of dishes, ice and common sense. A smile goes a long way. The business hours might seem odd if you aren't a student (or parent of a student) but today I learned their mid-day closure is discriminatory in nature. Background: My daughter and her best friend eat downtown every Wednesday because their school lets out early. They like Frosty's/Barn and Pantry, but they prefer to eat indoors when it's over 90 degrees outside so last week they ate at Bud's. I told them they should try the Frying Pan this week because they both love sushi. I feel awful for suggesting that now and even my husband, who would have sworn by their customer service here, doesn't want to give them his business any more. The experience: They got to the restaurant at 1:50, unaware of the odd mid-day closure. They tried to place an order with the hostess and were told they'd have to figure out how to order online before 2 or they couldn't get food. While they were struggling to figure out how to place an online order for food for the first time in their lives, they asked if they could get something to drink. (Again, they didn't understand the business was about to close and had expected to spend at least $30 and about 30 minutes there before walking home) The hostess rolled her eyes and said they could have 2 cans of soda, then she charged them $4 and some change for the sodas. When handed a $5 bill, she said it was too late for them to order any food, told them they had to leave, and asked if they needed change for their $5 bill. They told her no and couldn't leave fast enough. They probably would not have been able to complete an online order anyway since they are young teens and only had cash on them. I understand that middle-school-aged kids aren't everybody's favorite customers. But this rude treatment was so unnecessary. It hurt my feelings as a mother of kids who are raised to treat everybody with respect and a customer of this business to know they treat our children with this level of discrimination. It's their loss. The girls went across the street and ended up getting two very delicious super burritos from a very sweet lady that helped them decide what to order and treated them with respect. read more

Order Edamame to start and that came out like it had been boiling in water for 2 hours, needless to say it was extremely soggy. It took 35 minutes for 4 roles to make it to our table when the restaurant was empty. By the time our roles made it to our table they were stone cold. In addition, the roles were missing ingredients. After talking attention to the lack of ingredients, the chef argued with me and claimed that the ingredients were in there, even after dissecting the role. They had us pay for food that didn't include what was advertised. I would never go back there and wait for cold roles that were previously deep-fried. If there was a zero star rating on here, I do firmly believe that this place deserves that rating. The waitress was very sweet, kind and professional. read more

On my way back home from Sacramento, I got hungry and was looking for a burger place, and inadvertenty took off the westbound I-80 into Milk Farm Road to make a search out of curiosity.I was passing by Cattlemen on the right but decided to drive further down the street till I found what looked like oldish downtown. The burgundy awning of the Frying Pan caught my eye and entered this place. The moment I walked in, the inside reminded me of Dish Dash in Sunnydale and thought it was a Mediterranean restaurant. But it was a sushi restaurant. I was a little bit cold and ordered hot tea and asked the waitress whatever she wanted to recommend. My companion and me were served a plate of assorted tempura and another plate of soft-shelled crab tempura. I forgot the name of it but it was not so bad. A third plate was a salmon roll, but again I forgot its name. Overall, I liked the tempura better than the roll, though the roll looked more attractive and enticing. Across the street, Hana Sushi, a Japanese restaurant, stood there but later I realized it was closed down. This new place seemed to be loved by a lot of Dixon residents because it was crowded even well past a lumch peak. It will attract a lot of day travelers from I-80 and I will drop by again next time to try more. read more

I came on a Saturday for lunch and was surprised to find it almost empty. The restaurant has two sections with the entry door with the "wait to be seated" sign on one side and the bar, and tables with customers on the other. I waited for a while and finally someone came out to held a take out order and saw me. The menu is extensive and a bit confusing. I got the Seafood Tempura, which turned out to be an appetizer. The scallops were so tender and the shrimps were good, but the crab was SOOOO dry and tough. I also got the Golden Gate Roll and YUM! I don't usually do rolls but this roll was good! AND HUGE. I had to box some up to go. Definitely going to try this restaurant again. read more
