Yo Sushi & Ramen in Vacaville exceeded my expectations and delivered exactly what I was craving. This was my first visit, and the first thing I noticed was just how many tempting options were on the menu. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing I didn't want to try. I usually judge a sushi spot by its dragon roll, and this one absolutely delivered. The tempura was warm and crispy, topped with fresh avocado and rich unagi. Best of all, the rolls were the perfect size, so you don't have to unhinge your jaw just to get one piece in your mouth. The Titanic Roll was just as impressive. It came loaded with tamago and finished with a generous layer of cream cheese that brought everything together. These rolls were a little more challenging to pick up, so if your chopstick skills are questionable, ask for a fork. We wrapped things up with the mango mochi ice cream. They offered to top it with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, and naturally I said yes. The mango flavor really shines without being overpowering, and the mochi had that perfect soft, chewy texture instead of the thick, gummy consistency that some places serve. From the quality of the food to the generous portions, this place knocked it out of the park. If you're in Vacaville and craving sushi or ramen, Yo Sushi & Ramen is absolutely worth a visit. This was our 3rd visit. The first 2 times we were here we thought it was pretty good. It's not mind blowing but it is a good meal. The second visit the owner was actually there and asked us if we wanted to try their Japanese curry sauce, which we found to be really good. I guess I misunderstood as I thought she said there were going to be introducing a katsu with the Japanese curry So here we are for the 3rd visit and I see katsu on the menu so I was excited to try it. Well when it came out, there was no Japanese curry. I asked the server and as it turns out the sauce was what they were intending to introduce, the katsu they already had. Well so the sauce would not have made any difference as the katsu was really dry and very overcooked. The bottom was a very dark brown and just about to be black. I should have taken a picture. We also had a titanic roll which my wife thought was good but was just so so for me. Lastly we had the tempura appetizer, which we had the previous times. I do really like this, my only suggestion is to make the pieces a little more manageable. The onion ring and the one piece of broccoli are just way too big in my opinion. The last thing that bummed me out, and is what will probably make me not return. We were seated next to the sushi prep area and under the refrigerated case was tons of crumbs and stuff. We came into Yo Sushi for dinner today a little after 6pm on a Friday. There were a couple larger groups and a couple small groups of customers eating, so we were seated quickly with physical menus (I prefer that over digital menu). Water came out fast. You can order by the tablet or a server can take your order. We decided to order by tablet which is very easy to do. Food: - Bento Box A $19.00 (choose 2 items): Teriyaki Beef and Shrimp Tempura. The beef is a decent quality steak unlike other restaurants that use cheaper cuts of beef. Teriyaki sauce has good flavor and is not too salty or too sweet. Shrimp tempura was a crunchy and decent size. The salad is organic mix greens with their house dressing which tasted good. The bento box also comes with miso soup. Their miso soup is not watered down and had strong miso flavor with bits of tofu, seaweed and green onions. - Bento Box B $19.00 (choose 2 items, 1 item is a sushi roll): Some rolls are extra cost. Teriyaki Beef and Futomaki Roll (+$2.50): The Futomaki is very good, has good amounts of kampyo, shiitake mushroom, sweet egg and other veggies with minimal rice. - Sashimi Trio $23.50 (or roll, nigiri, sashimi): Good portion size with thick cuts of fresh fish sashimi. Comes with miso soup. Service was excellent! We were checked upon many times by different servers. Water was refilled without waving anyone down. The owner even came by and gave 1/2 a bowl sample of their Japanese curry to try out. Was told they will be offering Japanese Curry soon. Met a friend for lunch after shopping in the area. We were greeted upon entry and seated right away. For all we ordered the tempura (I have never seen onion rings that ginormous in my life!). Our kind waiter surprised us with yummy, warm, lightly salted edamame. For lunch, we were both so indecisive and opted for bento boxes to get a sample. My salmon filet was a nice option, sushi, salad, rice, soup..too much to finish so we left with dinner the next day. Highly recommend. They were out of maguro so they gave us two regular tuna sashimi, which honestly I think they should have either offered a single or another choice and not assumed but it turns out my mom ate them both so it worked out. Let me preface this by saying I am new to sushi. Used to despise the stuff but as I've gotten older my taste buds have changed. I found myself actually craving some, and after talking to quite a few people I found myself wanting to give Yo Sushi a try. I had the Japanese lasagna, and it was sooo good that I came back a second time in the same week. I attended the Yelp Elite event here and was super impressed. My girlfriend and I came for lunch after our hike at Peña. I was prepared to have the Bento Box since it was a ton of food last time. I was pleasantly surprised to see there was a lunch special price foe $4 less than the dinner price. Unfortunately, when the bento box came, there was no salad. I was so disappointed to find out that the lunch special didn't include the salad or Miso soup. So...it wasn't really a special price; it was less food for less money. It was a big bummer. Though the food was tasty, I probably would have paid more to get the salad and soup if I had known. My girlfriend ordered the Hamachi Kama. It took longer to come to the table than my meal, so I had to start eating before she had her food. She said it was tasty, but there was not much "grilled" flavor. Our servers were very attentive to begin with, but we asked for Sriracha and it took about 5 minutes before we got it. It was kind of weird that it took that long. We thought maybe they had to dig up a condiment packet, but it came out on a little dipping plate. The restaurant is clean and decently busy for 12:45 PM on a Sunday. But they forgot to pair it with soy sauce. A quick reminder was enough. Tho the sushi was filling and delicious, it is a bit pricey. The tonkatsu ramen however was decently priced. There is a good quantity of noodles and chashu. And at this restaurant, they make the chashu slices slightly crispy which is a nice touch. Though the ramen was lacking a piece of seaweed, yet the portions of the whole bowl was enough to feed a very hungry man or two teenage boys. The tonkatsu broth is very yummy. Tho do not expect ramen broth bits (like shrimp shell, pork bone, bonito flakes, etc) at the botttom of the ramen bowl. That may or may not be a good thing. Up to you! Stopped by for a late lunch and tried the black garlic ramen. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the noodles were cooked just right overall, a really satisfying bowl. The only downside for me was the pork slices (I believe it's called chashu). They were cut a bit too thick, not as tender as I'd hoped, and didn't have much seasoning, so they tasted fairly plain compared to the rest of the dish. Service and atmosphere were pleasant. I think this is great for those trying to watch what they eat, on a carb controlled diet, but still want to satisfy their cravings for sushi/ Japanese food. The rolls are a good size with the right amount of fillings and sauce. They have a special Vacaville sushi roll called "Nut Tree" and of course Yelp Elite Dario O. and I had to try that one! My girlfriend and I visited YoSushi in Vacaville this past Friday in the early afternoon, and overall it was a solid experience. We started miso soup and green tea, which were as expected and a nice way to start off. For rolls, we ordered the baked Lion Prince roll and the Crazy Monkey roll. The Lion Prince was okay but didn't quite hit for us. I'd rate it around a 5.5/10. On the other hand, the Crazy Monkey roll was excellent, easily an 8.5/10, and definitely the highlight. I ordered a bento box and a Fairfield roll. The Fairfield roll was $14 for 5 pieces. The soft shell crab was over cooked and there was no wasabi or ginger in the container. When you order sushi it comes with that for tasting. Also the bento box the tempura shrimp was terribly. Dry no shrimp. And the veggies were literally brown and burned. We thought we finally had a decent ramen spot in Vacaville but today was our third time eating here and very disappointed. The first two times food was delicious and staff was attentive. This time we ordered on the table kiosk. We got all our items in a reasonable time except my husband's ramen which was a 30 mintue wait. I had to ask the server if it was almost ready. No one ever came by to check on us or refill our drinks. When they finally brought my husbands food I was already done. His chicken ramen had barely any broth and when I asked the server she said yeah it looks like more noodles lol. When she brought the ramen to our table never apologized for the long wait. We went to the front counter to pay and she asked if everything was okay. I was polite and said no not this time. I told her we were disappointed and our experience before was better. I said we waited a long time for our food and there was no flavor in the broth or hardly any broth. She said yeah, well we were busy and sometimes we have bad days. Maybe she was having a bad day because last time she was our server and everything was fine. But I thought that's not what you say to your paying customers. We've always had good experiences at Yo Sushi in Vacaville, which is why tonight was so disappointing. Around 6:25pm, while we were waiting outside the single stall restroom, I heard a urinal flush. A cook walked out almost immediately, leaving no time for handwashing. He was still adjusting his zipper as he came out, and he was wearing his cooking gloves. I then saw him walk straight back through the kitchen door and continue handling food. At no point did he wash his hands or change his gloves. After seeing that, we decided to leave.
